I found Usha and her family when I went to the Jewelry Mart to buy an engagement ring. I had looked through almost every store in the mart because I wanted a 2 carat emerald cut, and they are not very common. Each store might have one or 2 of varying qualities and the prices were relatively consistent across stores. Usha was very understanding of my goal and actually suggested a stone that was slightly under 2 carats (1.8). This avoided the significant markup that occurs at 2 carats and was a beautiful stone with very slight imperfects only visible with a loop when the stone was out of its setting. They also helped me find a beautiful ring to complement the stone's depth and color. Through the whole process, Usha counseled me about stone shape quality and price and showed me how some settings would cause the diamond to shine more or less. She was patient and thorough and made me feel comfortable through the whole process. At the end of the day, I walked out with what I know was the prettiest emerald shaped diamond in the Mart (that day) at a very good price. S&S Brothers has been our go to jeweler since then. I went to the SF Jewelry Center one day to decide on an engagement ring. As with most people, I browsed around until stumbling upon S&S and walked in to gauge prices. My first time in, I went for a consultation and they provided me with some of the information on the center stone I was looking for and gave me some very educational information on the stone, which was extremely helpful. I left that day with a good impression. I did some more research over the course of the week about pricing and the design of the ring. I set out next week and met with Usha about picking a center stone and the design, which went well, considering I ended up deciding on both during that meeting. I have to admit that this is not my first go around with purchasing an engagement ring but the experience I had with Sushil and Mrs. Maheshwari was beyond what I could have ever hoped for. My fiancé purchased my beautiful engagement ring here with no problems and I wish I could say it was as seamless of a process for the rest of our experience with this store. We went to purchase our wedding bands and worked with Usha to do so. The communication style was pushy and stressful from the get-go. It is difficult to get a word in before being railroaded into something you may be unsure about. (Something we witnessed on our return to the store with another customer) We went the custom route with my band which I regret greatly. Was talked out of changes I wanted to make to the ring via text and phone after we left. I would ask for costs for larger diamonds and get no response. Halfway through, the ring arrives and was made in the wrong metal so was remade in the correct metal which extended the timeline we thought this would take. I wish I had been offered CAD drawings to understand fully what I was receiving since once it finally arrived, I disliked the design entirely. While attempting to return it in-person, after having already spent over $20k on my engagement ring and my fiancé's band, we're met with an argumentative Usha who kept repeating "if I am losing, you need to lose to" while trying to keep some of our money. Doesn't seem like a great way to keep customers. Prior to asking to return the ring, Usha mentioned that she had just sold the ring that was made in the wrong color and also offered an identical but larger ring as an option to me. When we asked to return the ring, she stated that she cannot resell this ring because it is not like the other styles she sells...which was not the case 5 minutes ago when she told me she sold the other and also handed me another identical style. In the end, we were able to return the ring after a slightly heated back and forth (and another employee stepping in) and received a suspiciously low amount of what the total cost of the ring was. We never received an itemized list of the two bands (stupid of us) but had overall total which we paid 100% up-front (also stupid of us). My band with half-eternity baguette diamonds was somehow 1/2 the cost of my future husband's plain gold band.... The cherry on top was when Usha called what I wanted (images I sent her in the process of trying to revise the ring) ugly. The whole process was miserable and felt so so slimy. For having spent so much money here, we expected much better customer service and a much better communication style. read more

This is a wonderful family-run business! We went in looking for a solitaire, and knew exactly what price range and gem qualities we wanted.
