We had to leave because some idiot that lives right next to the RV park has many fighting dogs and hunting dogs. The poor dogs are on heavy chains and bark and are very stressed. The dogs barked and howl all night and during the day. We never got any sleep. Called the sheriff and PETA. Carol refuses to do anything and told us that we can get our deposit back - $100 when we left. She is a liar and speaks christian talk all the time. Have nothing against Christians, but do as you say. She told us that she would return our deposit and hasn't done it. We are so pissed off that these Christian person that is such a liar. I am so sick of people like her that can just take our hard earn money. We gave her OUR money in good faith and now it's gone. $100 these days isn't much, but when you say you are going to do something and not do it is another thing. Yes, the park is very nice and clean except for the issue next door and Carol. We felt very bad for those dogs and we couldn't stay and feel their pain.

The Derailed Diner inside the travel center is a sit-down restaurant with a train decor that includes a crossing sound that plays at regular intervals in the parking lot. There's also a fried chicken takeout place inside. On my most recent stop I was excited to find that they have added a spin rack of paperback books. I'm always looking for something new to read on road trips and these racks are getting harder to find. I bought the science fiction novels Planet of the Damned by Harry Harrison and Solar Express by L. E. Modesitt Jr. along with some Stuckey's treats.

It's actually a project of the Mobile Bay Oyster Gardening Program to support restoration work in the Mobile Bay and the Mississippi Sound. Each shell is articulately painted with different scenes from Mobile. They are painted by local artists and sponsored by local businesses. All of the shells are beautiful, but my favorites are the ones at the corner of Dauphin and Washington and on the corner of Dauphin and Conception Street at Beinville Square. There is an Oyster Trail map that you can pick up in many hotels and visitors centers. If you can't find a map, you can go to the website and print out a map. The Oyster Trail doesn't end in Mobile. There are several oysters in Baldwin County too!

The grounds are beautifully manicured, cozy and intimate. It's Perfect for a late nightcap around the fire pit or just enjoying the ambiance. We stayed in the Lotus suite which had a beautiful view of the bay and was clean, airy with the perfect decor. I must mention the owners Dana and Jim. They were both very personable, friendly and seemed to take a genuine interest in all of the guests. We had breakfast outside in May, the weather was great and the food was delicious. Fairhope is almost like a hidden gem of Alabama. It's a lovely small town and if you are just passing through or planning a trip I highly recommend staying at the Jubilee Suites!

Across the street is the Africatown Cemetery, which is an interesting place to meander thru and take in some of the differences in grave sites/resting places. For the record, there is an Africa town Heritage House in town, but it was not open the day that we rolled through here. Their hours are 10 AM to 5 PM Tuesdays through Saturdays.

Finally got a chance to visit Africatown in Alabama, its been on my list of must places to explore!…read moreMy first stop was the "Heritage House" The Clotilda is the last known slave ship is located here, along with lots of history. It opened its doors in July 8, 2023. There is a reason it opened on this day, you must do your own research to find the answer. I've read several books about Cudjoe (Kazoola) Lewis and the decedents of Africatown. Read the book called the "Barracoon before you visit, this will give you a better understanding. The actual welcome center is being rebuilt. The Heritage House museum will give you some maps and info to visit the other sites in town. Visit the museum, churches, parks and cemetery. There are a few old houses still standing. Enjoy your visit, Im sure we will visit again soon. BTW: Alot of people are not aware that this town exist, education is the key to the truth. Tell your friends, visit and donate if possible. The visitor center is currently under construction, so I shared some of the local sites. @glampedlife
