Three floors of magical goodness, wonder and amazement. This unique toy and gift store truly had something for everyone. It's the place to go when you want something different; that perfect little something. They've everything from jewelry to porcelain dolls, board games, educational toys and games, kits, collectibles and more. A friendly staff with service that is bar none. Coming here is like taking a step back in time.

In an age where toy stores are going out of business due to online shopping SW Randall remains as a showcase of not only quality toys but also trains, models, and Goebel collectibles. The Goebels they had were devoted to Mickey and Minnie Mouse. I was attracted to the sign outside that read 60% off third floor. I went in to find out what was going on. I learned that this is their semi annual sale where they clear out old merchandise and bring in new. I had to walk up two flights of stairs to get there. Didn't see an elevator. There was a sign on each floor advising that you cannot take merchandise from one floor to another. Each floor has its own check out area. I looked over the sale merchandise and while not much caught my eye, I did notice that a number of items were marked "sold as is." Guess this is a way for them to get rid of damaged merchandise. I worked my way down to the 2nd floor which was full of model trains and hobbies. I had grown up in a family where we had these trains but with the passing of time had to get rid of them. I returned to the first floor and saw quite a bit of merchandise here. Anything ranging from music boxes, jewelry cases, Beatle souvenirs, Christmas items like Dicken's Village and other vintage items are on this floor. There's also movie themed items for sale such as Wizard of Oz. I loved the snowglobes and music boxes themed to the Phantom of the Opera still running on Broadway. They have a special section devoted to dolls. I've always been a doll lover so I headed there. Inside I found a vast collection of collectible Barbie dolls that I haven't seen in quite some time. I was told that although pricey they are still in their original packaging and it would be something you would not want to take out of the box if you wish to display it. Along the back wall was a large collection of Madame Alexander dolls. They have stands for them which is sold for a small fee to display them. Madame Alexander is a well known noted brand and these dolls are not only well made but can be collector's items. I learned that they were not getting any more in this year but I would have to wait until next year to see anything new from them. Normally they are dressed in world costumes or movie themed outfits. I was blown away at a Rhett Butler doll! Definitely a must for anyone who collects "Gone with the Wind." You can also get dolls themed after the Wizard of Oz movie including the Tin Man and the Wicked Witch along with Dorothy. There had other lesser named brands as well but still I could tell much better quality than you would find with the American Girl series. SW Randall has multiple locations in the city and even though they are pricey for the most part you are getting quality. I always recommend you inspect the merchandise before purchase to make sure it is clear of defects. Return policy is limited and rules are written in the check out area. Family owned and operated.

They have the coolest stuff . A real toy store. Their music boxes are an excellent selection and take your time. We could spend hours here. Definitely a must see destination when in Pittsburgh

Location: Smithfield Street between Weiner World & Huntington. Street parking and garage parking across the street. Facility: First Floor: Popular toys, greeting cards, stuffed animal room, holiday village room. Second Floor: Model Train sets of all sizes, model cars, airplanes, board games and hobbies. Third Floor: Dolls, barbies, play-house items and discounts. Staff: Family-owned. The owner works the front desk, Mick works the second floor. Both love their store and their jobs. This place has a magic about it and everyone is on board. Experience: It may be the kid in me but this is the coolest store I have ever been in. You could spend hours just checking out one floor. This is now my favorite store in the city and I'm excited to share it with all of little ones in my family, but really I need a reason to come back. Conclusion: If you are into model trains, hobbies, have any person looking for a card or cool gift this is your place. Expect to be wowed and spend tons of time. All the prices are fair and I really am proud we have a store like this in Pittsburgh.

Note #1: SW Randall also has stores in Squirrel Hill and Shadyside, but this Dowtown Pittsburgh location is the largest. Note #2: There is a 3rd floor, but I was told that it is closed during the summer due to the heat and only contains dolls. Toys: If they stop fascinating you, then your inner child has died tragically. Last week, for the first time in all my years in Pittsburgh, I made my way into SW Randall's store to merely kill time. After telling the middle-aged gent running the store (a person I'll refer to as the Toykeeper) that I just wanted to have a look about the place, I walked out with a ceramic, bat-winged goth fairy for my beloved. The aisles of the store seemed to go on without end, and I was only on the first floor. I said to the Toykeeper, "Man, I never knew this place was so big! I've never been in here before. I thought it was just a little gift shop." "Yeah, we get that a lot," the Toykeeper said. And a lot is what they carry. Competing for my attention were men of tin, bugs that scurried about when knobs on their sides were cranked, greeting cards, dragons, superheroes of plastic, princesses of glass, beings of imagination, creations of mirth... Upstairs, I was greeted by the Apprentice, a 20ish man who was rather tickled when I told him that I write reviews on area businesses. Here could be found action figures, educational toys, card games, miniature soldiers, toy trains, and myriad other things that run feathers along the brain. The entire inventory of amusement entranced a mother and son who were visiting from Houston as well as myself. To think that in SW Randall's 42 years and my 38, I had never been inside the place before. Had I come to this spellbinding emporium at the age of 9, Toys R Us and Children's Palace would have been quickly forgotten along with Transformers, GI Joe, and Masters of the Universe. Bring your children here. Bring your nieces and nephews. Bring yourselves. SW Randall is a true Downtown treasure trove of wonderment. Help keep them around for another 4 decades. The digital age will hopefully leave them with nary a scratch. P.S. One has to crack a smile over how they spell "toyes" and how it instantly conjures a magical era long since past.

This toy store is very unique and the shop keeps are so charming and helpful. They greet you intimately and genuinely with a warmth and sincerity that has been unmatched from chain stores. This store is magical and I am so thankful to have it Downtown. It is truly a special place. I really wish there were more special occasions that I could celebrate just so I had an excuse to spend more time at S.W Randalls. Every inch of this store is covered in wonderment. My latest purchase was beautiful heart pendent that catches the light and sparkles like diamond. It was marked down and only cost me about $30.00. If you were to see this necklace you would think it cost $200.00 or more. I really do cherish my pendant. S.W Randalls for the longest time they have had a running sale where all their jewelry is 40%. Shopping at S.W Randalls is a real treat for me.

This is the types of toys they have and many others.

Nice little toy store downtown. My son was looking for Legos, which they had plenty on the 2nd floor.
