Other than my physical disabilities, I have no other limitations. I think it's important to give you a little background about me, before I tell you my story. I had an in-home lab draw due to my physical disabilities with STAT Mobile. The labs included a thyroid and lipid panels. Unfortunately, I had had a unusually rich breakfast that morning, including heavy whipping cream, honey, butter, pancakes, syrup, eggs. Yes, I forgot that I should not have had breakfast, especially one so rich, however, I was NEVER advised to be NPO, (which means nothing by mouth, no food or drink) for the blood draw. Lipid panel results can be inaccurate/ incorrect if the patient has eaten prior to the blood draw. The test results can be affected based on what, how much, how soon the patient ate prior to the blood draw. These results would be INCORRECT!!!. These inaccurate results are now provided to ordering physician, who then may prescribe medications based on the inaccurate results provided to them by STAT Mobile. Medications that are NOT necessary, that have a plethora of side effects and cost money for both the insurance company and the patient, unnecessary financial burdens and risks. I told them that "I refused the blood draw and I would reschedule". The phlebotomist called her supervisor and the supervisor wanted to speak with me. The STAT Mobile supervisor told me that I "would allow her to do the blood draw" because the phlebotomist "drove all the way from Chicago and was not going to get paid, unless I allowed her to draw my blood". Basically she talked me into allowing the phlebotomist to draw blood for the thyroid test or she would not get paid. I'm pretty sure that this was another dishonest statement made by a STAT Mobile employee. I think the STAT Mobile supervisor didn't want to lose any money. Having to pay the phlebotomist to come out for a blood draw, that was refused by the patient, due to not being told to remain NPO for the blood draw. Again this is all on STAT Mobile! They don't know that I'm an RN, they don't know that I'm aware that I should remain NPO for this blood draw. The STAT Mobile supervisor assured me that they would "only draw the blood for the thyroid test and we would reschedule the lipid panel". Sure enough STAT Mobile went ahead and ran BOTH the orders, AGAINST my direct refusal and consent, NOT to run the Lipid Panel. Thankfully I am a registered nurse, and knew to contact my MD and make him aware that the results were inaccurate, the fact that I ate an extremely rich, high fat breakfast and was not NPO and had refused the blood draw for the lipid panel and ONLY consented to the thyroid test. Think about it; people of the general public, (your mum or dad, your brother or sister, or you) could/will be prescribed unnecessary medications, medications that could cause greater harm due to side effects and unnecessary financial burden. All because of an inaccurate test result provided by STAT Mobile. All because of money!! When we have companies that put money over a patient's health & welfare, those are companies we do not want to deal with. Not only without my consent, but also against my direct verbal orders, discussed and given to BOTH to the STAT Mobile supervisor I talked to on the phone, but the phlebotomist!!! That is physical abuse. This is abuse of our medical system, insurance companies but most importantly; us!! The most important part of the equation, The Patients!! Because a patient is older, has disabilities, etc., this does NOT give STAT Mobile the right to abuse us, physically or mentally!! In the medical field, forcing somebody to have something physical done to them is considered physical battery. Forcing a patient to do anything without their consent or against their wishes can be chargeable offense/s. I am taking this to the top!! Next time you our a loved one has in-home lab work ordered, be sure to ask, "what is the name of the company coming into my home?". There's nothing worse than having someone come into your home, abuse you, and get paid for it.

My child has active Illinois Medicaid, and I completed all required intake forms online ahead of time, including entering insurance information. I drove about 45 minutes to this office specifically because it showed that my child's insurance was accepted, we were out of town, and I called beforehand to confirm they accepted the insurance. When I arrived, I was told by Devon at the front desk that the insurance could not be verified because I did not have a physical insurance card. I tried to explain that Medicaid members do not have physical cards and that all insurance details had already been submitted online prior to the visit. She advised me to fill out the paperwork before hand and when I arrived, I was told it did not matter and they did not care because the system does not transfer over. That should not affect me as a patient being that it's a clinical error, not patient error. Being that my son has had this insurance for 5 years, I have never been turned away or told they would not see my child due to not having a physical card. The online Medicaid system allows providers to look up people with name and date of birth. The front desk refused to do so. In fact, she laughed in my face and spun around in her chair. I asked what my options were so my child could still be seen, I was not given any answers. Due to the severity of my child, I had to ask if I could pay self-pay of $175 out of pocket in order to proceed, despite having active Medicaid coverage. This is not appropriate under Medicaid participation rules and regulations. I was also forced to ask what my options were multiple times because she dismissed me and my sick child and began talking to the next person in line. The interaction at the front desk felt dismissive, disrespectful and unhelpful, especially while I was there with a sick young child on a holiday weekend. There was no effort made to work through the insurance issue or offer alternatives. I have also filed an official complaint with both the company and Medicaid because if this experience happens to me, I cannot imagine how many more it has happen to. I advise if someone working at the front desk does not have basic efforts to help a sick patient, do not keep them. I hope this office improves how it handles Medicaid verification and patient communication, especially for families who are trying to access covered care. To make it worse, this woman was training other women and refused to help the line of 5 people. I understand how training works, but to be as dismissive to all those in line just because you did not feel like doing your job, very sad for this location. On the other hand, the provider was absolutely phenomenal, and it is a shame that others may not get to see her and her great quality of care because the lack of professionalism at the front desk. As someone who works in healthcare, I would be extremely embarrassed if this front desk was the face of the practice.
