Seriously, when dealing with peoples lives, and tests are off, they should be communicated ASAP. When I called to inquire about walk-in availability, the male receptionist who answered sounded as if he was half-asleep and was very difficult to understand. The whole interaction felt unnecessarily rude and unprofessional. To top it off, right as I was wrapping up the call and saying "okay thank you," he hung up on me before I even finished my sentence. That lack of basic courtesy left a really negative impression. Again, I have no complaints about the doctors or the actual care, but the attitude of the person answering the phones makes a huge difference in how patients perceive the office. First impressions matter, and this one was disappointing.

Appointments now consist of basic questions and exams that barely touch the service of issues. My last physical didn't even include a hernia exam, and I'm a 39 year old male with a history of hernias. The nurse practitioners they have on staff are under-qualified at best. The front desk staff are rude, and the intake nurses are also unprofessional. This practice has lost any idea of what customer service means and seems to now be an appointment mill that bills your insurance for telling you to buy some Motrin and get some bed rest. Today was the last straw for us. My wife recently gave birth naturally and our OBGYN recommended we see our PCP for a referral for physical therapy for a month from now to help get her back on her feet and speed her recovery. We called and scheduled an appointment for this specific purpose with the front desk who confirmed that they could give a referral for PT. After waiting for an hour, my wife was seen by a family nurse practitioner that took her temperature and blood pressure, checked her height and weight, eyes and ears, and listened to her breathing. Then, without any examination of her pelvic floor muscles, said that PT 'wasn't indicated' at this time and we should come back for another appointment after our 6 week checkup with our OBGYN for ANOTHER appointment. She explained that we had been sent by the OBGYN to get a referral but the FNP refused to issue the referral and sent her packing. I went in to address this with the front desk and they gave me the run-around, then brought out a 'provider' who first said she had seen my wife but after having me explain the whole situation told me she was just the intake nurse, then asked me to re-explain the situation, then laughed when I said I didn't want to explain myself again and wanted to talk to the actual nurse that had seen my wife. All in all it was a nice hour and fifteen minutes absolutely wasted by the front desk and clinical staff because of their inability to listen and/or be upfront about what services they are willing and able to provide. To LSFP - if you can not or will not offer a service then perhaps your front desk staff shouldn't confirm the appointment for it. Your practice used to be great, and now it is a terrible place to go for care and competent customer service. I've had better customer service at McDonald's. Your front desk staff especially leaves a lot to be desired in the professionalism department. 25 years as a patient and I have never been treated the way I was treated today. We won't be back. On November 1, at 36 weeks of pregnancy, my wife felt discomfort. So, she checked into the…read moreemergency room at INOVA Fairfax. She was there for less than an hour, and all that was performed by the doctor was a cervical exam. She was found to be having pre-term contractions, with no dilation, and was then sent home. My wife received an invoice for $396.90. The hospital billed the insurance $2,646.00 and the insurance paid $3,784.10! All this for a cervical exam at the emergency room! I called INOVA billing on December 17 to inquire about the charges. I was told that the invoice would get sent over to see if it was coded correctly. I also requested a detailed itemized bill, with a breakout of the services provided. What I received was very basic and didn't provide much information. It is shocking that INOVA hospital would bill such a high amount for just a cervical exam. This appears to have been billed improperly and I called to investigate. INOVA billing didn't get back to me, so I opened up a BBB complaint. INOVA denied any wrongdoing, and now I'm going to contact my insurance to get an audit because this doesn't add up. $3700 paid by the insurance for a cervical exam, and I still owe about $400 in co-insurance?!?! How can INOVA be a nonprofit?!?!

DISCLAIMER: My apologies in advance for this lengthy review. I wanted to document the horrible…read morecustomer service my wife and I experienced from the INOVA FAIRFAX HOSPITAL NICU during a 3.5 month span. The best part of this review is that my wife and I gave birth to a healthy baby girl. Due to her being a preemie, she stayed in the hospital for an extended period where we experienced first hand the broken healthcare system and instances of malpractice within the NICU. Regarding the care of our daughter, it was a frustrating experience from the beginning! There was a great communication barrier between us and the hospital staff, to include front desk personnel, nurses, doctors, supervisors and upper level hospital management. To make a long story short, this hospital failed us, often picking and choosing what protocols they should follow, and not providing key information to us that they promised to deliver. In our initial complaint, we spoke to the supervisor to explain the discrepancy in communication, and all they could do is apologize, and attempted to justify the behavior of their staff. In addition, we noticed a big disservice that the nurses were providing. Many nurses were on their phones, reading books and having leisure conversations outside of the infants rooms while alerts were going off that required immediate attention for their assigned babies. There was also a clear incompetence displayed by the night-time staff and nurses compared to the dayshift. Calling at night-time for updates was a nuisance due to the ignorant staff saying that they did not know the answers to basic questions. We would often be advised to just check with the day shift. Doctors and nurses alike agreed that the night-time staff doesn't really know anything and verified that the care at night is often not up to par! Therefore, the night-time staff doesn't really do anything to advance the child. There is also a disparity in the amount of minority (African-American) nurses at the unit. The few black nurses that provided care for our daughter expressed concerns with how the unit was being handled. Specifically, one of our daughter's nurses explained her reasoning to transition from full-time to part-time due to her inability to do what she studied and practiced for years regarding taking care of babies. Instead, she explained that at INOVA Fairfax, the nurses are simply tasked with following the doctor's orders even if it is contrary to what the child needs. Although the nurses are the primary care-givers for the children, their feedback is not really valued and that presents a major disservice to the families. As it relates to the doctors, it was frustrating due to the many doctors we would see on a week to week basis, all had differing opinions regarding our daughter's care. In most instances, it seemed as if no action was their best course of action instituted. As a result, every milestone that our daughter accomplished was initiated by us. With such a slow trajectory regarding our daughter's care, it inspired us to look into how her development could be expedited to get her home as quickly and safely as possible. Every suggestion that we made was implemented, and our daughter never had to go backwards. That presents a major quandary on behalf of the hospital because the doctor's get paid to make the decisions. Consequently, in this case, we were proposing all the decisions, and they would just say, "ok, then, let's try it." There is plenty more that transpired, but due to limitations I cannot share. However, if you are a minority and are having a baby, you may want to reconsider contrary to INOVA Fairfax.

Given its been some time since my past review thought I would update but be briefer geared to questions I have received. In my last review I noted the advantage LSTC has combining the Therapists with Trainers so you are never left on your own as with most other PT Centers. This is the single best advantage over its competitors BUT it relies on the quality of staff. I was fortunate with having a very good Therapist who eventually left but was fortunate, having seen many other therapists work on others, to request Angie Austin step in when Leigh left mid-Therapy and she not only picked up working on my plantar fasciitis (and then right shoulder) but also worked with my orthopedist to help fit my orthotics. She helped me recover with rigorous exercises (she has eyes behind her because when I am doing something wrong with the trainers, she comes across to correct my technique) and after a PRP procedure on my right shoulder and a very thorough evaluation by Sydney Kosik (which was concurred by my by Doctor) started working with me. After an absence due to travel, I returned and in Angie's absence, started back with Sydney. I'm hoping to split my time with both of them as they are really good in spending effort and time working on muscle groups that need strengthened and each have slightly different techniques that I can use to build back strength. So, in response to questions on any flags to be aware of, here are a few: Assuming you are there for a few weeks, lock on a therapist who you feel is making the effort to help you (i.e., manual therapy). And have a back-up because the good ones seem to leave. If Angie and/or Sydney leave, I will revert back to anyone of several other therapists I know and respect (and use as with my back issues). Angie was nice enough to ensure I had the right bands to use at home and Sydney ensured I had a refresher after being away for some time. LSTC has decent pandemic procedures. However, no temperature checks as with others. And at times they are a bit lax with the 6-foot rule placing folks too near each other. I now wear 2 masks just to be careful. They do wipe down all equipment. Most all equipment available except no Electrotherapy Equipment/dry needling which can be quite helpful. Its one reason my wife left and if it were my back, I would not be there (now with my 6 year + therapist who uses both) Not much flexibility when you run out of visits. Other Centers allow you to self-pay what your Insurance pays. Here its more expensive so not worth paying as I was willing to do. However, its really convenient if you live in the area, front office staff including claims very pleasant to deal with, approvals easy to obtain (a huge plus); trainers are helpful to work with (they do seem short-staffed) and appointments easy to schedule (assuming you don't mind who are with...in my case I have to plan). Not once was I ever told the cost of services prior to any visit. This goes against the No Surprises Act of 2022. I have already reported One Medical to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. I have requested they adjust my bill accordingly, but I keep getting bills via email and mail. I even called at the beginning of 2022 to confirm my new insurance was accepted, and they confirmed it was. They used to be an amazing practice, but things have severely changed. I will not be renewing my membership even though I've been a member for years.
