Coming to Eightynine Cafe with a tricycle was difficult because most locals couldn't find it, but since it's located on the main road of Rizal, it is easy to find without precise directions. Located next to a local hotel with tourists, this cafe is new and modern with brown wooden tables and chairs. Its homey feel is more catered to tourists and millennials. The food items they serve are innovative and fun from inspirations from various countries like Indonesian to French with a Filipino twist. It is the top pick for specialty coffee to food bloggers. I love their Spambol and its katsu-like take on spam. You think it's like a spamsilog, but it's definitely a special breaded spam. Everything has a beautiful but simple presentation. Ask for garlic rice if needed but it might be an additional $$ to the bill, though it was well worth it. I felt like I was in a local cozy Taiwanese cafe. The drinks are definitely a main thing to get in this cafe. The latte art is exceptional when they design it. Try all the special coffee like the Charcoal Latte or the Yuen Yueng. Wifi available. No CR. Go outside of the cafe to the hotel. There's no toilet paper so bring your own wipes. Cash only. Open decently late. Mangaon ta!

Thinking it would be closed they were open ! My experience was incredible . The owner welcomed me and my girl in. He really knows his coffee and you can tell his passion with coffee more then I've ever met . We ended up staying for 3 hours just talking and informing us about coffee and the difference taste and making ! There's all types of coffee and they even roast their own coffee beans! It was so good I had 4 different taste of coffee . I believe this is the best coffee I've ever tasted , especially in the Philippines ! While my partner and I managed to find indoor seats, the place does get cramped. There are also three self order kiosks which helps make the ordering process faster by separating those paying by card versus cash. Luckily, those who pay by cash like me are quickly attended to by the cashier. This surprised me since most of the time in the USA the cashiers will ignore me and point me to the kiosk. The food was good and I think it's cute how rice is served wrapped like a burger. In the USA rice is served in a plastic cup but the sizing between the two felt about the same. The burger steak I think is also smaller here but tastes better. The meat tastes fresher and the spicy chicken here has a little spice. Unlike in the USA the spicy chicken lacks any spice. It used to be spicier but I don't know why they changed it to where it's not noticeable. As a result, I liked the way food tastes at Jollibee in the Philippines a lot more than the USA. The only reason why I won't give this place five stars is because of the cramped venue and slower service compared to other Jollibee spots in the Philippines.

We were up too early for out hotel's breakfast so we missed breakfast completely. I was crossing my fingers for good options at the airport, although I knew that it would be a small airport and my options would be limited. After checking in, I sat down at the terminal and looked around, most shops were small and sold souvenirs. It seemed like there was no coffee in sight! After looking around, I realized that the food options were upstairs and offered 3 cafe's and one waffle stand. To my surprise, one of the options was SBC! I am used to seeing Starbucks everywhere but not SBC. I decided to give it a shot and it did not disappoint! I ordered a small coffee to get me going, but the selections were endless. There were a lot of 'frappuccino' like beverages and flavored lattes to try. My coffee was great and the small seating space was comfortable. I also enjoyed that the cafe's were on the second level, it was a great place to people watch!

Decent but the avocado wasn't creamy. - Garlic rice (30 PHP) - they gave me plain rice instead. Lame. - Grilled squid (265 PHP large) - three option sizes (small is 215 PHP and medium is 245 PHP). Might as well go large! I didn't expect the inside squid rings to be stuffed with red onion, tomato and cucumber. Nice but it gets a bit boring after a few bites. The grilled squid was excellently cooked. Great texture and fresh. This is a place where you want to go with a large group so that you can try several things. The garlic crab (495 PHP) looked promising.

I dropped in multiple times for breakfast. It was busy every visit. There's a TV on mute playing random movies/sports. There's also fans all over the room on full blast to keep things cool. The menu is up on two walls. Wall #1 has 6 breakfast combo options, sandwiches, omelettes, salads, burgers, pasta and pancakes. Wall #2 has soup, desserts, pizza, appetizers, paella and main meals. Sashimi was an unexpected option... - Filipino breakfast (120 PHP) - your choice of meat (I opted for the fried fresh fish), garlic rice, two sunny side eggs, fruit (banana) and coffee/tea. Tea is your generic Lipton tea bag. Garlic rice was tasty and a very filling portion. The fish was nicely cooked; almost like a tuna steak. Not overdone. All the Filipino breakfasts I've had have been excellent. - Pumpkin in coconut milk (50 PHP) - came back for their pumpkin soup. It comes with rice and coffee/tea. I'm not sure why there's a pumpkin soup on the menu for 180 PHP; just ask for this one. Pumpkin pieces were tender yet still had a nice bite. Soup was creamy with the coconut milk. - Filipino breakfast with tocino pork (120 PHP) - you only get 3 small pieces of pork in a sweet sauce. Good but the fresh fried fish was better. Awesome little hole in the wall for cheap Filipino eats.

We made sure to stop into the bakery before leaving. Turns out that Baker's Hill is a tourist attraction. Plenty of photo opportunities throughout the property. Lots of cool statues of animals and cartoon characters. They have an aviary filled with peacocks. There is also a viewing deck at Baker's Hill from which you can see the beautiful view surrounding the area. Purchased the following items at the bakery: Cashew Polvoron Hopia Mongo Royal Soda Barquillos Yema Tarts All were good. The Hopia Mongo was my favorite item that we got. Baker's Hill is a fine place to check out when traveling to Puerto Princesa in Palawan. Have fun!!

It was raining when I went to Puerto Princesa and my parents were sick and I'd already rented a…read moreprivate van to drive us around. I've been to this town before and did the underground cavern kayaking and didn't feel the need to do it again. So being a homebody I figured I'd have a normal day- not a day full of sightseeing, but a day of going to the supermarket, grab some cold and flu supplies for the parents who stayed on the cruise ship, and maybe get some KFC. And that day rocked. I like feeling normal rather than being a tourist who feels the need to drink everything in. However, I had a driver and lots of time on my hands, so why not do something touristy? Off to Baker's Hill we went. It was a little scary because it's out in the sticks and there was construction on the road that made it muddy on a rainy day. My driver pushed on and pulled up to this little village in the middle of nowhere and this place was kooky. Baker's Hill is this Instagrammy slice of heaven- lots of fiberglass statues of Marilyn Monroe, Shrek and family, those italian chef things you might find in a suburban kitchen that holds a menu. Nice gardens too. Even in the rain it was nice to look around. They have a stand for boba tea, a couple of places where you can sit and have snacks or a table service meal. And at the exit they sell Filipino baked goods. I got some biscotti, spicy dillis, and some hopia along with other treats. They don't have much in the way of souvenirs other than t-shirts (I'm a sticker girl, so they didn't have anything for me) but that's okay. It took me about 20 mins to look around and buy my treats, then back to the van to enjoy more of normality.
