Do your best to stay away from Sharon and you will have a beautiful and stress free wedding here. This was the first and only chapel we looked at. It is absolutely gorgeous. The only odd thing is that there is no center aisle. So you walk up one aisle and down the other. I just had the person walking me down the aisle stand on my left side (to Sharon's Dismay and against her objections) because then people got a better view of the bride! But anyway, when we first looked at the chapel, we met Debbie who was supposedly going to be our coordinator. Every time we had a question or made a payment we spoke with Debbie. She was great. Then all of a sudden, I walk into the chapel for my wedding rehearsal and there is this loud woman named Sharon telling everyone what to do. Who was this woman?! Where did she come from?! where was Debbie?! Sharon not only bragged about all her experience but also tried to force me to have my father walk me down the aisle and would not drop the subject when I explained that that was not my wish. She just was not what I was prepared to deal with. She kept everything moving and on time so at least there is that? All in all, we had a beautiful wedding here and everyone loved the chapel. I just suggest asking for Debbie and Debbie only as your coordinator.

We had our wedding ceremony in June of 2011. The facility and people were very easy to work with,…read morethe price was extremely reasonable, and the history and orate detail was the perfect backdrop for our classy summer wedding. I'd come back here in a heartbeat. The facility does have air conditioning and a separate area for the girls to get ready and wait. Only seats about 150-200, but not a bad little spot. Also, a note, this chapel as no center aisle - it's got an east and a west instead and the guests sit in the middle which made photography slightly difficult as we said our vows. Also not great for a large wedding party as the altar isn't that large. We had 4 guys and gals stand up on each side which fit perfectly with us up there as well. One negative - parking. The parking lot is around the corner and halfway down the block from the chapel and it is shared with another church next door. It would be ideal if there was better signage directing guests where to go as they arrived. I'd happily attend or stand up in a wedding in this facility. I love the cozy and history factors!

After being raised in a small Bible church in Elmhurst, and then attending a large church for a…read morebunch of years, I felt lost and disconnected. I wasn't growing, and that's not a good place to be spiritually. I needed to get back to a smaller congregation and connected with others. Attending Compass feels like "home." They have a few other campuses, but this review is of their Wheaton campus. PASTOR/TEACHING: First off, Pastor Jeff Griffin is the BEST pastor I've ever had. Hands down. He's funny, and passionate and often uses props to help illustrate what he's teaching. He is also unassuming, humble and joyful. He doesn't wear a fancy suit and shoes, making you feel you're at a fashion show rather than church! He is just like you and me. He tells of his shortcomings and struggles as a Christian and so you can relate to him. Pastor Jeff also puts scripture verses up on the screens, and then breaks them down into chunks to really study the meaning. This is how I learn best - and I learn something EVERY single week at this church. Compass took over the old Wheaton Evangelical Free Church, and is still non-denominational, evangelical-free church with Biblically sound teaching. It's been updated a bit and feels a little more contemporary than the old church. But just as warm. I'm growing a lot at Compass, and so many of the sermons are very timely in my life right now - I know I am there for a reason. MINISTRIES/ACTIVITIES: They have a wonderful children's program, adult ministries, fun extra activities, a great worship (Nate is awesome!!! He needs to make an album! I also want to set him up with my sister lol), and some very kind, non-judgmental people in administration. They are truly a great representation of Christ. THEY CARE: One thing I have to share is how considerate this church is. I had written on a prayer card that I was having surgery, and after surgery they had "get well" flowers delivered to my home. I'd received nothing from good friends (cards, phone calls, etc.), but I did from my new church. Not long after that, my mother passed away. I briefly mentioned it an e-mail response to a woman who works at Compass. A few days later, I received a beautiful plant with flowers! These sentiments meant SO much to me. The trials I've been going through have been rough, and knowing the church is there for me if I need them means great deal. NIT: Just one tiny nit - and I'm really not complaining. I wish they had a consistent women's Bible study in the evenings. I get home from work at 6pm, and so it would be great to have a 6:30 study that met consistently throughout the year. I have a hard time connecting with other women otherwise. I know they have small groups for couples, and my husband and I are looking to join one. I need to connect more here and hoping to do so soon!

First Congregational Church of Glen Ellyn is member of the United Church of Christ denomination. The congregation is extremely welcoming and voted to become an Open & Affirming church - welcoming everyone on their faith journey. Dr Lillian Daniels, the Sr Pastor, and Seth Carey, the Executive Associate Pastor have both written for the UCC Daily Devotionals. Their sermons are thought provoking and relevant to the problems we all encounter. The music program is eclectic - with two wonderful adult choirs that perform everything from Handel's Messiah to U2's Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For. There are also great smaller groups that do modern songs to complement the message in the sermons. The church has a full Christian Ed program encompassing Young Children in Worship for K-2 ; an experiential rotational model for 3-5, a 3 year Confirmation Program for Middle School and Sr High Sunday School classes. The programs continue in the summer months as well plus there is a wonderful Vacation Bible School. program in June. There are also 3 active youth groups - TFSquared; Jr High Fellowship and Sr. High Fellowship. Jr and Sr Highs each lead a service once a year, Sr High travels on summer mission trips - this year's is to Boston MA. Jr High does a local mission week during the summer. The church recently began to offer Jr and Sr High the Our Whole Lives program through a series of retreats - a denomination sponsored program that offers a Christian Sexuality Education Programs. Even when I'm feeling down, my spirits lift when I walk into First Congregational. We would love to welcome you into the Community!

Michelle accused me of abusing the organ, but she has no proof. I had direct communication with the organist, so she can't know what happened. Michelle wasn't even there. What's more, she hasn't talked to me in person at all. She also didn't like my last post, and so she's punishing me for what she did not like to hear. I'm not here to be silent--I had to be the grown-up in this picture. I'm going to send these pictures--please tell me if you think this feels welcoming. And I was wondering--look at the first ones: how different these are. I'm wondering, is this how Lillian felt? This is striking--what's interesting is the pastor is on the same page. Guess who used to be the pastor's boss? Lillian. No one sees the wizard thing
