After years going from Doctor to Doctor with no results I was speaking to someone at Dr B Wells in Plainview and they recommended that I see Dr Belfiore. When I went to my appointment I waited less than 20 minutes which is not long at all, my second and third appointment there was less than a 10 minute wait. The staff are very nice and pleasant. Dr Belfiore is very nice, he explained things to me in a way that I could understand and even sketched on a notepad to give me a visual. What Doctor does that? None that I've ever gone to. He didn't rush our time together. He looked me straight in the eyes when he spoke to me. I have much respect for him even after reading these reviews. Nothing will change my mind about Dr Belfiore. I will continue to see him and recommend him. What sealed the deal for me was when he told me about the close professional relationship he has with another doctor that I really love and respect. They have the same work ethics and the same diagnosis and treatment approach.

My 86-year-old Mom had been admitted to…read moreBelair as a Sub-Acute Rehab Patient back in 2019 (Pre-Pandemic) and I first Met Marie Jean Baptiste who works in the Admissions Department. Marie immediately saw to all my needs and answered many questions, as this was my first time ever dealing with a Rehab Center. The care that my Mom received at Belair this very first time was excellent. While on the first floor, in the area where the short term sub-acute patients stay, the Nurses and PT/OT got her back on her feet (literally) and she was discharged to her home in great shape. This was a short stay, but I knew if my Mom was in need of this type of care in the future, I would not hesitate to have my Mom placed at this facility. 2021 My Mom is a Resident at Belair and is thriving. Once again, meeting with Roseann and Marie at Admissions, all of my needs were met with the highest degree of attention. Andrew Yandoli (Administrator at Belair) explained to me in detail, the process for my Mom's transition from Short Term Sub-Acute care to Long Term care in a way that was not overwhelming, and certainly put me at ease. Dr. Krichmar (Medical Director) and the Nursing/Aide staff on the first floor Sub-Acute care area took excellent care of my mom, before moving her to the second floor as a Resident. Susan (RN Unit Supervisor) as well as Maureen (RN Nurse Manager) were always available to answer my questions and concerns. The Nurse Practitioners, Danielle and Dr. Ebby handled all of my Mom's prescription medication needs, and that wasn't always an easy task. The many nurses like Holly and Payal as well as Yolie are always so caring and attentive. Nurse's Aides like Tiesha, Erlinde and Andrea (my Mom calls her "Guardian Angel") on the second floor are excellent and my Mom is grateful (as am I) to have them taking care of her. The Nursing Director Theresa and the Assistant Nursing Director Marjorie are so great in guiding me when it comes to various issues that arise with medication or outside doctor's appointments. Lynn is super helpful with setting up transportation and Aides for my Mom when she needs to leave the facility for outside medical specialists such as her Orthopedic Doctor. The Rehabilitation Director Angela and her staff of OT/PT's are awesome. My Mom sees Gus (PT) and Brianna (OT), and always speaks so highly of both of them. I see them in the hallways, and they never fail to give me updates as to how she is doing in Rehab. The Social Workers, Nikki and Blanca as well as the Belair Business Manager Jenny have been very helpful with navigating the waters of transition from Sub-Acute short-term Care to Resident Long-Term Care. Walking into The Belair is always a good experience. Vito (reception area) is always there with a smile and a quick temperature check. He's happy to reach out to anyone I may need to speak to, upon my arrival, or transfer a phone call when I need some help from home. Vito's Dad John is in charge of maintenance and Housekeeping and was a great help to me, while setting up my mom's new space. In fact, Vito and His Dad are not the only family team at the Belair. Marie (Admissions) and her son Ken as well as Maureen (RN Nurse Manager) and her Daughter Jessica also work at The Belair. Roseann and her Daughter Stephanie (HR) also work together at the Belair. Funny thing... My Mom has now called me a few times (after I've not been able to reach her) to tell me that she's been "BUSY". The Recreation Staff on the 2nd floor is excellent. Maria, Joyce, Jeanine and Dawn really keep the residents busy. My Mom has become quite "Crafty". Between Church services, Chloe the therapy dog, and singers that come in, my Mom always seem to have great stories to tell me. The year leading up to my Mom being placed at The Belair was extremely stressful, and knowing my Mom is now being cared for on a daily basis is a HUGE RELIEF.

This rehab Center has a terrible, obnoxious, haughty and rude, nurse practitioner. He was in charge…read moreof prescribing and coordinating medicines for my wife during her recent stay there. He never consulted us or discussed pros and cons of the medicines and changed them without us knowing the side effects or interactions among them. I had to constantly go and ask him about them. One day he got extremely angry and yelled out "How many times do I have to tell you. Get out of here. I'm not taking care of your wife. Take your wife and go. Get out. Go." I was totally shaken and stunned. I told him he was not the owner. I wanted to talk to his boss, the medical director. He flippantly answered." Go ahead and talk to him. I am not his son." I complained to the Administrator and the medical director later. They both said they were reassign his area, but really didn't since he was at his nursing station whenever he worked,on our floor. They didn't fire him or even admonish him as I could tell. This kind of egregious professional misconduct should not be tolerated anywhere in rehab centers. These employees work there because of patients and rehab centers are open because of patients. There were times when medicines would be delayed, even after asking for them up to an hour. All in all most of the supervisors, nurses, aides, PT staff, admissions staff and receptionists were very nice people. The food is not good and we had to bring it from outside most of the time. I'm giving this place a one star because this nurse practitioner ruined everything for us. We were in the middle of rehabilitation, so didn't want to change Centers. I'm thinking of complaining about him to the New York State education department, National Health Care Associates (owners of Bel-Air, ) and Medicare among others. Anybody considering putting their loved one here , is strongly cautioned about a possible similar horrible experience to ours and should think about it very carefully.

My son attempted working with two different therapists at Counseling for You in Massapequa Park. I…read moresought therapy for him to address his anxiety pertaining to learning disabilities and struggles in school. My son is currently classified as speech and language delayed and ADD after evaluations at school and by a private pediatric neurologist. His struggles in retaining multiple step directions, using the appropriate words to respond to questions or describe his feelings, and managing his emotions due to his speech delay and heightened anxiety prompted me to seek out therapy. He gets counseling at his school (his guidance counselors are LOVELY and I can't say enough good things about THEM!), but I thought it would be prudent to seek out private therapy to ensure consistency from year to year and continuity over the summer. The first therapist had an initial consultation with me with him present in the room, which made it uncomfortable for me to be fully transparent about my concerns (as I don't feel they're appropriate to express directly in front of him). She then spent only a few moments with him and made the entire issue about his weight and his diet, not at all addressing anything about his anxiety or emotional regulation. I don't deny that diet is related to behavior, but it seemed as though she took one look at him and made this determination based on his size without actually getting to know him at all. I called to request a second therapist. The second therapist was disinterested in hearing about his speech/language delay and ADD classifications because she "doesn't believe in labels", but took it upon herself to "light-heartedly" joke that he had no idea what a tie dye t-shirt was after their second session together (he does; he just struggles to classify things as part of his language delay). After she and I had a private consultation and she was well aware that he is insecure about his struggles in learning, she somehow felt it appropriate to mock his limited vocabulary and life experience in the lobby in front of me and the receptionist. He left saying, "See? I told you I was dumb." After this experience, I immediately pulled my son from the practice. I also communicated with the supervisor and it is my hope that these issues are addressed, but I was instantly turned off and wish to help other parents and children dodge the unprofessional service I received at this practice. I say this as someone who is not unnecessarily critical and will gladly and enthusiastically give credit to good services who deserve them. (You will see in my reviews that I praised my son's amazing physical therapist). But, when you are dealing with children, especially the sensitive area of their mental health, it is important to be extra cautious. These vulnerable patients deserve the best of care, and that is not what was received at this practice. I only hope they see poor reviews as a wake up call to do better.

After losing my insurance, I…read morewasn't able to see him for a while--but I was still taking the medication that he himself originally prescribed me. I just hadn't had an appointment because of the insurance gap, but I had enough medication left from previous fills and continued it consistently. When I finally scheduled an appointment again, they canceled it an hour before, claiming I needed to do a new intake since it had been over four months. It's extremely frustrating because if I had canceled last minute like that, they would've charged me a fee. Apparently, that rule only applies to patients. When I finally did get seen, Nicholas didn't listen. I explained that I had been taking my meds the entire time--the same medication he had originally prescribed. Despite that, he told me I had to basically start the whole process over, and reduced my dosage from 250 mg down to 25 mg. Unsurprisingly, I had a horrible month. My bipolar symptoms came back in full force. When I followed up and told him how badly I was struggling--including having intrusive thoughts--their response was: "Go to the ER." Anyone who has ever dealt with mental health issues knows how unhelpful that is. Sitting in an emergency room for hours when this could've been handled by my provider is not care--it's passing the buck. At my next appointment, the dose was slightly increased, but still nowhere near where it needed to be. I was still suffering. I tried reaching out to the office--which, by the way, is incredibly difficult to navigate--to get Nicholas's email. He had told me to contact him if anything came up. The front desk responded, "We don't give out personal emails." I wasn't asking for his personal email--I was asking for a way to contact my provider. The back and forth with the front desk went nowhere. Then Nicholas called me--but from a spam-labeled number, which obviously I didn't answer. He called again while I was at work and couldn't pick up. I emailed back explaining that, but the communication was already falling apart. I tried canceling my next appointment and--no surprise--it wasn't actually canceled. I had to email them five separate times before someone finally confirmed it was canceled. Eventually, a supervisor called me after seeing the string of emails. We had a 45-minute conversation where she told me she would follow up with Nicholas and get back to me later that day or the next. She never called me back. This is not how you treat patients, especially those dealing with serious mental health struggles. If you're looking for real mental health care, this is not the place. I've now been forced to start the exhausting and stressful process of finding a new provider in the middle of a mental health crisis that they made worse by not listening and not doing their jobs. Nicholas didn't listen. The front desk didn't listen. The supervisor didn't follow through. And the entire point of mental health care is to be heard. Instead, I'm spiraling--snapping at my kids over things like spilled milk, sobbing uncontrollably mid-workout, and feeling totally out of control of my emotions. I came here for care. I left worse than when I arrived. Long story short: I would never, ever recommend this place unless your mom works there--and even then, good luck.
