The young man (tall, slim, with long black hair) with a green beanie on was extremely rude and condescending when asked about the work done at this shop. He was unwilling to help me view other artist work and his own: Who willingly turns away a customer willing to spend $$$ finishing an arm sleeve? Could it be because I am a WOMAN who is Black?? Ladies ( and gents) Do NOT waste your time here. Go where you and your money is valued and appreciated. The world is better off without jerks like this employee. I really wanted a tattoo to live up to the meditating astronaut!! An Alien on a cross! Oey was and is a great guy, though I got there for my appointment and he said he was really in a hurry. I feel like my Alien on the Cross tattoo could've been unique or trippy, but failed to live up expectations to its counterpart tattoo on my other arm, and I get embarrassed to even show it. I went in today to get a cost and time for a small tattoo 1.5" square at Sacred Tattoo. I was greeted by Joel. after telling him that I wanted a butterfly to cover the 1.5" star on my chest, he said it wld cost $200 to do. (WHAT?! No Way!) He said the time wld be an hour. He saw and examined my tattoo thoroughly too. He was clearly trying to scam me bc my tattoo is very small, and the modification is not complicated. in fact it's faded so its even more easier to modify. their starting cost for whatever you get is $80 as I read on some of the current reviews on here. I estimated I wld have to spend that much to cover it. They are shady bc my tattoo is too small to be $200, not even close. My 7 year old daughter woke up ready to have her ears pierced today. I've had years of dithering to think what I'll do when this day artives, and ultimately decided to go the tattoo parlor route-- all empirical evidence suggests that healing time is faster, it's less painful than a gun, and the hygiene is strongly regulated. I called up the highly recommended Industrial piercing parlor in Berkeley and they were willing, told me to come with my ID and my daughter's birth certificate, to prove I was authorized to allow a body altering event. I was bummed, because we were already in Berkeley when I called, and I live near the lake in Oakland, wasn't keen on making a return trip . Then I found out they had a shop in Oakland in the Sacred Tattoo parlor. We retrieved said documentation, and my daughter was ready and very excited, but when the time came she was shaking and her teeth were chattering in spite of herself. (This is a girl who howls with fear when her teeth are cleaned). The piercing guy, Josh, a handsome young man full of tattoos and piercings, is calm and kind. He helped her settle down and get ready. He poked the first hole before my little lady knew to flinch. After the first pierce, which was sort of painful, little lady said, "I don't want to do the second. I promise I will come back tomorrow and do the other. " She shed a few tears, but Josh calmed her down, assuring her that her reaction was no less severe than some grown men. She agreed to the next piercing. Next, in my fussing, I tried to convince the piercer that his dots were uneven. He rechecked, and confidently told me they were even. I backed off. The second ear was painless compliments of adrenaline. Little lady was euphoric when it was all over. He was right. They were perfectly even. Do not force your kids to get their ears pierced, but if you let them choose, grab your documents and go here. This was a great experience, and we'll never forget it. read more

A couple months back, Hydi pierced my septum with a 10g piercing needle. I have a lot of tattoo ink, but when it comes to piercings I would say I'm a bit "green". As of today, my new piercing is healed and I have removed the original retainer she had placed through my septum. I alternate between an "Omega" retainer and a captive ball septum ring. Wow Sacred Tattoo---after reading 3 other bad reviews about the blond wavy haired girl's bad customer service practices maybe something should be done about it! I was on my 30 minute lunch break so popped in to buy a nose piercing and encountered the sales clerk (the only one on duty) talking to another customer. Upon seeing me waiting she quickly told me she was with another customer but would be with me shortly so I waited...and waited... It wouldn't have been so bad if she were helping a customer with a purchase but she was talking at length about the nuances of hygenic piercing care, recommendations for such in the LA area etc. Finally, at one point the customer wrapped things up and was about to depart but then had one more follow up question and the sales clerk eagerly (and cluelessly) re-engaged her in a continued deep conversation about more of the same. I've been both pierced & tattooed here, but let's start with the piercing portion. I used to get pierced exclusively at Body Manipulations. I loved their work, the staff and their knowledge, plus I had a nice discount worked out with the owner- no need for me to find another shop. I had a friend looking to get their septum pierced late one night. Being that it was after 7, my 1st choice, BodyM, was closed. So we decided to give Sacred a try since we'd heard good things about them, they were open late, and they were close to my place. It was a great experience, for both my friend getting pierced and me as an observer. Dee was so great, funny, and very friendly. It was like I'd known her all my life. Fast forward a couple of months, my friend & I head back to Sacred because I'd been wanting an industrial piercing. After talking w/ Dee in length about it, we decided that a traditional industrial wouldn't work with my ear cartilage, but we worked out something very different & unique. Now time for me to get pierced by Dee. I have numerous piercings, tattoos, & even a couple of brands, none of which had ever made me cry. When Dee pushed the 2nd needle through my cartilage, the tears just started to flow. It HURT, but it was an involuntary response. She has just discovered my weakness. Dee was super sweet about it and had to turn away so I wouldn't make her cry. She made sure I was ok before I left and that I would come in a couple of weeks so she could check the progress. See has been nothing but amazing since my experience. I never want to get pierced by anyone else. She is an angel and has mad skills to boot! Bottom line- Get pierced by Dee! She totally rocks! Now onto the tattoo review. My first tattoo experience here was during their Toys for Tats drive in December. It was a crazy night, very busy, and not an accurate representation of how the shop normally runs. None the less, my tattoo came out very well, and I've had no need for a touch-up or anything. Now for my more real experience. I had a chest piece started a few years back at a different shop in another state & it was done like crap. I took in a very good and accurate representation of what I wanted, but what I came out with was not even close to that design. It faded very fast and was a huge disappointment. To have a crappy chest piece is a very sad experience, and I needed to find someone who could rectify someone else's mistake. I'd scoured the Bay for a great artist who worked in the medium that I liked (something very hard to find), was willing to take on this project, and who wouldn't charge me an arm and both my legs. I have a friend who's been tattooed by Oey and did an amazing job, but it was not in the same style as I wanted. After a few months of looking at other people's work, I came back to check out Oey's portfolio again. I found examples of several different styles (including the style that I wanted) and all executed very well. We had a brief discussion about the work, how we wanted to fix it, and how to expand on it. I was very apprehensive about getting the work done. The last time I had my chest tattooed , it was a very painful experience & I was apprehensive about the pain. Oey did a great job checking in with me, taking breaks when I needed, and was very light in his touch. He made getting my sternum tattooed as easy of a process as it could have been considering. After three sessions (the last one being a free "touch-up session which he received a very generous tip for), me chest piece is done & amazing! Oey really fixed all the problem areas and his additions blended well with the previous work. I couldn't be happier with the tattoo or the process & now I'm not ashamed of my very prominent tattoo. Even months after the incident you did not handle well. And now! now! you tell me we you had a problem with me? if you did you sure had a way of covering it up! it was total shock when you went off! i had no ideal things were not cool. your behavior came not just from left-field, but from? every time, i walked into "sacred tattoo" as your client, you did nothing to express your discomforts! and that was the time to do it! what went wrong? what happened? what made you so angry that you choose not to finish the work i hired and paid you to finish?! tell me please, because i am still, at a complete lost? frank, the important thing to remember here is: i hired you! i hired you to do a job and you didn't want to finish it! if i had to guess what happened, it would no doubt be the times i suggested specific colors on my tattoo; some say this request is not out of the norm. When i did, you found it offensive . you took it as a personal insult your artistry. insulting you was far from my intentions; i was simply letting you know what i wanted on my tattoo. what you forgot to realize frank, i was the client! i was suppose to get what i wanted. the point i want to reinforce frank is: if you found working with me so uncomfortable or whatever reason, then you should have referred me to another artist! that would have been the adult thing to do frank! i gave you no reason to behave badly! you refused to understand the tattoo you were creating was on my body, for me! your behavior i was like it was your canvas; to do what you wanted. yes, i was laid back about being there but, that was for the belief in your Craft! Simply put you refused to give this client what she wanted! i chose "sacred tattoo shop" out of thousands of tattoo shops in the bay area! i chose you, frank, out of thousands of tattoo artist in the bay area. any other artist would have been able to work through their differences. it makes me very sad you weren't. you chose to walk away! you chose not to finish the work i hired you to do. it is my right to write about my disappointment in your service. and that is why i wrote the review! and will keep this review! I absolutely LOVE this place for piercings. Dee is really the best but for tattoos I'm not too sure. I went in for a walk in tattoo and told them what I wanted. The guy that was gonna do it, Seth, was already irritated I can tell. But this was my first tattoo and I am a little picky so when he drew up the stencil, I asked him to make it more realistic and asked him to change the leaf, he got mad. He said "you should've told me earlier then" with so much attitude. I didn't say anything back cuz I didn't want him to mess up my tattoo on purpose. so when he went to the back, me and my friend called a different place for a walk in tattoo and I told Seth I didn't want the tattoo anymore. I have yet to be tattooed here as i am very happy with my current artist, however ive seen some friends work from here and it looked great. The reason I am writing this review is to praise MissDee. I was introduced a few months ago to MissDee through a friend, and got my nostril repierced, and she did a great job. she explained what she was doing, was SO gentle, and was all around very comforting and easy to talk to. Now, I've been pierced all over, from Zebras, to Brain Drops, to Body Exotic. And I'm not bashing those places as they are mostly good shops, but never, ever have I felt more welcome, acknowledged, and comfortable than when i let MissDee pierce me. She is very experienced at what she does, and will tell you what does and doesn't work on your face, what type of jewelry would be best for your own individual piercing needs, etc.... So, if you're ever around the Oakland/Berkeley area and looking to get pierced, MissDee is who your looking for. She made me so comfortable and welcomed and relaxed when shes done my nostril, and now both of my anti-eyebrow dermal anchors, and i don't think I'd trust anyone else to pierce me, really.
