My nose hoop gave me an irritation bump, so I decided it would be best to go back to a stud for awhile. So I stopped by Industrial Tattoo to get jewelry and assistance with swapping it out. This time I stopped by on a weekday, in the AM, and the wait time was cut significantly. My first visit I was there for a minimum of 2 hours, this time I waited 15 mins tops. The shop only charges 10 bucks to change your jewelry, but where you really pay is for the jewelry. I decided on a dainty, solid stud, and it was nearly 200 bucks. Dang!! I mean, look, they are listed on the Association of Piercing Professionals (something like that), so I know it's wise to visit them for all of my piercing needs. But sheesh lol. It will be awhile before I get new jewelry, I'll say that much, but regardless I am happy with my new stud and I'm happy with the service. read more

Industrial Tattoo is located not too far from UC Berkeley, so parking may be a bit hit or miss. The shop is tucked away from the main street, so they may be easily missed. I heard very good things about this spot, so I was excited to come here. A bit background, my tragus earrings fell out about 3 days prior to this visit. I lost one, so I decided to get a new set and wanted someone out the jewelry back in for me, as it is difficult for me to get the backing for these piercings, Anyway, I stopped in, was greeted, and informed to fill out a form on my phone. After filling it out, I was taken to the glass case where the earrings were and the ones I wanted only have one left, so I picked out a different pair (they sell the earrings individually). I was told to wait for the piercer to help me. After a short wait, someone came out for me and we went to the back. I got settled on the piercing / tattoo bed and was walked through the process. My piercer was nice and since we were just putting new ones in, it was a quick process. I went back to the front to get rung up for the jewelry and service (they do charge $10 for each piercing change). The reason why I gave them a 2 is because one of my tragus swelled up very badly. Not sure why it would had swelled up like that, as I did not get pierced, so I am not sure if they did not clean the jewelry properly or practice correct hand hygiene. Made an appointment on line for my daughter's 18th bday & there was promotion for $18 service fee per piercing so that was helpful. The day of the piercing the wait time was at least 20 min. After our appt.time. If I had to pay the meter for parking, we would definitely had to add more money & time. The front desk staff were informative & helpful when showing me all the options of earrings to choose from. As far as the service, the Accredited Piercer (Marina Muller) starts to disinfect the ear & mark the ear. There was a little confusion from Marina bc for the on-line sign up form it asks what service you want done & which ear. Marina forgot to ask & confirm w/my daughter which ear she wanted pierced. As soon as this was cleared up, the process went very smoothly. As far as the price, it was a birthday piercing special for $18 each service & my daughter decided on 2 piercings. We brought our 16-year old to get his ears pierced here, and they were great. I haven't had any experience with piercing in 30+ years, and it's completely different now. No piercing gun! Just a needle. It's all very civilized. I was concerned with how much it might hurt or how intimidated he might be by the experience, but the person helping us put him at ease and explained every step, including the best way to care for new piercings. For any customers under 18, an original birth certificate is required and one of the birth parents (with identification) must also be present. I absolutely adore Industrial! This tattoo and piercing establishment is always so welcoming and community oriented. It is super close to UC Berkeley and so parking can be a bit rough, however BArT or bus stops are quite close for accessibility. I highly recommend booking an appointment as this shop is often busy, but also check with them if they are taking walk-ins and how long that wait might be if you are close by. Nash is incredible and they have always made me feel super comfortable when piercing me. They did both my nostrils, helix, and my latest piercing vertical labret. Recently came back to get repierced with Marina and she is still the GOAT. My last piercings were in Jan of 2019 and last May 2023 I took my piercings out after they healed so well for a surgery. I woke up and the piercings closed :( I said I wasn't going to get repierced, but it's an itch you just have to scratch. So I made an appointment with the one and only Marina because again, there is no one else I would let pierce me except her. Industrial is the best piercing shop IMO. I love Industrial! They are by far the best place to get pierced in the East Bay. They are more expensive than another piercing shop in the neighborhood, but the experience is so much better. The shop is clean and all of the staff are friendly. I appreciate that they take appointments but also do walk-ins. Be aware, you will have to wait (even with an appointment), but it's worth it! I have worked with Nash a few times and she is always fantastic about explaining each step of the piercing process. Everyone is very sanitary and informative throughout the shop. Anwyn was an amazing piercer! I originally wanted to get a rook piercing but with her professional expertise, she hesitated with my ear anatomy. Instead she recommended an alternative of getting a flat or tragus, and I chose the flat! She sanitized the earring inside a machine and in the meantime she explained the process of piercing calmly and confidently. I took a deep breathe in with my nose and when I breathed out through my mouth, she pierced my cartilage and it wasn't even painful! She was also so kind to notice that my conch earring was not threaded completely correctly (I had replaced it earlier that morning) so she threaded it in for me. She provided me a bobby pin so my hair wouldn't rub up on my new piercing. There wasn't a complimentary after care package but I still had some from my conch so no worries. I've also gotten a few piercings from marina here too, and she's really personable and ethical about what piercings she'll do (eg bc I wear hearing aids certain ear piercings won't work and it's great that she'll level with you!) It's so hard to pick jewelry bc it's difficult to see sizing, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Marina was our piercer and the experience was great. Marina answered all of our questions patiently and we shared some good laughs. The piercing wasn't as painful as I thought it would be. So easy, that I'm considering the other nostril--I'd make a point to see Marina again. One thing I wish I had known was the extra cost for the backing, which was $20. I think this was kind of annoying, and is really the only part of the experience that was a miss for me. I wish they had been more transparent so that there are no surprises at check out. I went to Industrial to get a check up on my tragus and helix piercings, after the tragus appeared to be forming a small bump. I was worried it was forming a keloid and was beginning to freak. NOTE: The original piercings were performed while I was on vacation in San Diego at Enigma (See my positive Yelp review on the experience). My piercer had worked at Industrial back in the day and referred me to them if I needed any follow up. My experience at Industrial did not disappoint. The technician checked my piercings and confirmed that my tragus was healing well and was probably inflamed from being bumped into (true). They were able to downsize my helix and did a jewelry change on my tragus. One month on and my piercings are still in tip top shape. I'm considering doing a lobe piercing here soon. I come here for all my piercing needs. My only complaint is that I have never been seen on time for any of my appointments. I'll wait anywhere from 15 - 45 minutes after my appointment time before being taken back. Even if you try to get an appointment when they first open, they don't even open their doors and turn on their computers until 12:00pm so you certainly won't be seen at 12. read more

Beautiful Jewelry, But Two Disappointing Experiences at Industrial Tattoo and Piercing Industrial Tattoo and Piercing has some truly beautiful, high-end jewelry, but the customer service left a lot to be desired. My partner had an appointment scheduled for over 60 minutes (he wanted to get 3 piercings), but because we arrived 20 minutes late, they refused to do any piercings. No flexibility, no consideration, just a flat-out no, despite how long the appointment was supposed to be. A couple of months later, my partner purchased a gorgeous gold and diamond nose ring, which wasn't cheap, and it came apart and fell out far too easily (I was washing my face gently). When I came back to get it put back in, the staff acted oddly, as if they didn't remember we'd just been there a couple of weeks ago. They struggled to get the piercing back in and ultimately were not able to, after only a day of it being out! They refused to repierce me using my jewelry and cited sanitation reasons, but they didn't offer a good alternative, saying I could buy more jewelry. After refusing this option, I then had to remind the piercer to return the expensive jewelry my partner had already paid for. To top it off, they charged me just to put a tongue ring back in, which they had done a few weeks earlier as well. They didn't show any real interest in making things right. No apologies, no accountability--just a shrug and a dismissive attitude. Beautiful shop, but for the price and reputation, I expected way more professionalism and care. I won't be coming back unless it is just to get jewelry, and I would not ask them to put it in for me again. read more

Just got my septum pierced with Lysa today and I'm in loveeee! I waited about 40 minutes even with an appointment so bring a book or something to do. There was a really nice selection of jewelry to choose from and someone helped me pick it out. Lysa's apprentice told me the cleaning instructions and asked if they could try to mark where the piercing should go as part of their training process and I said yes. Lysa came to look at it and changed it to the correct placement. Lysa was very gentle when it came to the actual piercing process. She also removed my nostril piercing that I didn't want anymore. Everything went smoothly and everyone who worked there was friendly. The person who rang up my total gave me some free industrial stickers as well. My cousin accompanied me and she loved the place/Marina and came back on a later date to get her piercing done. 6 weeks after the piercing they checked in with me and asked if I wanted to come back in for resizing. Ended up not needing it but still went in to check that everything looked good and healthy. It's been about 4 months since and my piercings have healed perfectly. No issues whatsoever. I'm not going anywhere else LOL I've been here three times now: once to get my nose piercing re-sized, another to get my conch pierced, and most recently to switch my nose piercing from a stud to a ring. Each time, the service has been very professional and friendly. For both nose piercing-related visits, Nash helped me out and they're fantastic!! They walk you the process thoroughly and make sure you're happy with every step. When I got my ring swapped out they made sure that I was 100% happy with my ring size. I came in asking for an artist who knew how to treat trans people and who was okay with them. On the day of, I thought everything was cool. The tattoo is about my motherhood and my relationship with my kids. I told the artist all of my favorite stories about my kids, about realizing that I was the more emotionally intelligent parent, about how my kids initially called me "mom-dad" even before I came out as trans. Then, as I'm going out, my least favorite thing in the world happens. This person, who I thought understood and cared, misgenders me to her coworker. How? How could you misgender someone after all that? And if this is how I'm getting treated, how are they treating other trans women? And then, to add injury to insult, as I'm turning to leave, one of the clerks nearly catches me in the eye with their pen (thankfully I winced). Now, this tattoo, a symbol of my motherhood, is also a symbol of the fact that some cis women will never believe that I'm a woman, no matter what I say to them, and that some people can't even see me. It hurts. I can't go back. I've talked to them, and they've said they're sorry (in massive walls of defensive corporate-speak) if I was referred to in any way I didn't like, but nowhere have they said anything like "I believe you're a woman," which is the only part that matters. read more

Went in with my daughter and her friends to get a couple naval piercings. My daughter was the one who chose the shop so I was pleasantly surprised to see the high quality jewelry. Last time she chose a shop it was in a mall Alas, this shop has an extremely well curated selection of jewelry. Every single person I spoke to was so kind. The wait time was a little long, even with the appointments we scheduled, but it happens. Last month at a DIFFERENT shop I had a pretty bad experience where my septum was pierced very clearly crooked. Not something you want in the smack dab center of your face :( I was lead to think that my anatomy could potentially be the main cause of the issue. But a friend of mine told me that most folks have a slightly off septum, and they told me about their experience getting facial Piercings by Marina here at Industrial. They said she took extra time to examine their face and anatomy to ensure that the piercing sat symmetrical and straight on their face. So I took out my first piercing, let it heal and made an appointment with Marina. SHE WAS AMAZING, she examined my nose and noted that there was a very slight curve to my septum and said she'd do her best to get it as straight as possible. I decided to proceed, and she did a few test markings and a small ring to triple check placement before going in with the real thing. It was basically painless. I shed one tear and then sat up and I ALMOST CRIED with JOY. It was straight! No one's anatomy is 100% symmetrical and she did a great job at placing it in a way that looks straight on my face. Not only that but I also was able to be pierced with jewelry that I actually LOVE and will have it likely be my forever piece. They defo have more than just basic rings for first time septum piercings. I HIGHLY suggest you hit up Marina (she's an angel) especially if you want your septum done.
