After seeing Sacred Vibes on Instagram, my friend and I decided it was time to address our 30-year-old body ailments. We noticed it wasn't too far from our Brooklyn neighborhood so we headed over on a Saturday afternoon. The shop was dimly lit with natural light beaming through the front window. The smell was herbaceous and woody, but not as pungent as classic botanicas that can overwhelm you with scents of patchouli and incense. We were greeted by Sid and Ziggy, both of whom were laid-back but ready to help at any time. They also gave the shop some down-to-earth vibes which is great when you're a bit more pragmatic like me. We explained to them the one to eight problems we each had and they directed us to teas, herbs, tinctures, and even smokable blends (not my scene but helpful). It was heaven! I left with the Sinus Formula Tea and Golden Tonic. The tea is smooth, round, & tasty, and has been keeping my sinus headaches at bay. I haven't used the tonic as much but every time I add it to my water, my body goes into flush-mode which is great for my body aches and overall gut health. I came in right when they were open, and the staff was very helpful and knowledgeable in finding the right herbs and tinctures to assist with my needs. I also appreciated the wide variety of options that they had as well as the additional stuff that they sell there such as soaps, candles, and oils. While assisting me, I appreciated that the staff reached out to their manager for clarification to make sure that I was getting the necessary answers and information needed. Lastly, I appreciated how clean spacious and aesthetically pleasing this establishment was. Nestled on the corner of Argyle and Cortelyou in Ditmas Park, you'll find 1-2 herbalists ready to help you heal. The shop currently allows two people in a time due to COVID and you'll want to spend 20-30 minutes here looking at all the options. They have teas, tinctures, capsules and soaks all either premade or made to order on site. I purchased a plethora of times in all forms and was able to chat with both herbalists about the properties and times I should avoid drinking the teas or tinctures. I honestly could have spent hours here as they also have an amazing library of books and resources on every herb imaginable. This ship is Black woman owned which makes it a win in my book. I ordered 2 of the Liver Detox cleansers on 9/2/ 2020. It is now 10/20/20 and I have not received my product. I have called multiple times - and no answer. I've emailed, reached out on Instagram and no answer. I have noticed that on Instagram there is other people experiencing the same problem. I found this business on Yelp when looking for organic bug repellent products. Came away with a great $10 bottle of spray (see picture). It contains wormwood, catnip!, yarrow with lemongrass & eucalyptus E.O. In Apple Cider Vinegar. How interesting. Everything is made in-house by hand. I ended up spending another $40 on products that de-stress and assist in sleep using more natural ingredients including a dropper bottle called "Slumber," (Valerian and Hops), and "Anti-Anxietea," containing too many ingredients to name but smelled delicious. I wandered in here recently with a friend, and like other reviewers have stated, found it do be a really charming shop. Sacred Vibes carries a mix of pleasure teas (ie teas just for your enjoyment, like chai and green teas), medicinal teas & tinctures (herbal blends designed for specific purposes), and bulk spices/herbs for general use. When I wandered into the store, Karen was not in, but the woman there was really friendly, relaxed and helpful. The shop overall has a really serene vibe and is very aesthetically pleasing with big glass jars full of various herbs lining the walls. I purchased a medicinal tea, but haven't been taking it as regularly as the instructions direct, so hard to say if it's done anything (shame on me!). Walked in, and, trying to be polite, said "hello." The young woman at the register answered with the most noncommittal, disinterested "hi." I looked around a bit, then out of curiosity asked the cashier what she was making from the herbs she was mixing. The owner, who'd gotten off the phone call she'd been on, answered for her. Also in a very clipped and noncommittal way. It made me feel like questions were unwelcome. The owner then proceeded to work on her laptop. The shop was very small and let me tell you, it was really awkward looking around in such a cramped space while the owner and cashier acted like I wasn't there. Eventually, they started talking to one another. I heard the cashier ask if the owner had answered an email from people who wanted to stop by today. The owner answered "no." All of a sudden it made sense why the email and Instagram DM I'd sent them had gone unanswered. The awkwardness got to me and I thanked them and proceeded to walk out. Their "goodbyes" were the most enthusiastic things they'd said to me. Such a shame, because I went in with high hopes and plans to regularly spend money there. You desperately send a DM to their Instagram account, you get no response AND you get to see them post new photos onto their timeline AFTER you've sent them the DM. When you finally get a hold of a human being on the phone the attitude about the great difficulty in reaching a staff member is quite lackadaisical. Like, "Well, there's only two of us and I'm just getting back from vacation." AND? What does that have to do with anything? The other person has been in town and posting on Instagram to boot! I hate to write this, but I have been a consistent customer of Sacred Vibes Apothecary for years!!! I have referred family, co-workers and friends over time. Every other experience has been magical. Yesterday I visited and it was any but. Danielle was the staff member present and she was extremely rude and lacked any form of service. When I walked in her energy was combative and negative. She never offered a "Hello, welcome/let me know if you need anything". I stood at the counter waiting for assistance with my order for close to 10 minutes (mind you I am the only one in the store) and even then she was impolite. She then proceeds to pack/smash my herbs in the bag with her raw hands (no gloves, no previous hand washing nor sanitizer) not to mention whatever she's experiencing I don't want it attached to my healing. I'm not even sure why I purchased them after that...but they will be going in the trash! If this beautiful sacred apothecary is a space for healing and wellness, it is essential for the individuals offering access to the healing be spiritually and emotionally healthy. This is in my neighbourhood and has to be the worst customer service ever. I ordered my stuff from them during this COVID mess. I got a call to say I cannot pick up my item as they will be closed. Unfortunately I came down with the disease. I called emailed called emailed no one responded to me for close to 2 months. I have NEVER been treated this way by any establishment. Then I happened to drive by the store and notice the gate was up there was the shop assistant on the phone saying to wait. I had to wait till she got off the phone to deal with me. The proper thing to do would be to say please hold to the phone person who it turns out was the owner and deal with the customer in front of you. I will never patronize this establishment again. My son and I decided to make a visit to SVA this past Saturday and I am happy to report that this shop does not disappoint. I found SVA through yelp and some youtube videos as well and I found the comments and the videos to be warm and inviting and that is how we felt stepping through the door. As soon as wee entered my son says "OMG, I love this place already!", there is such a cozy and relaxed feeling about SVA, it's as though you are being welcomed by family the vibe is unbelievable. It is very well organized and Karen was in, she has such a sweet nature about her I was so happy when she stepped from behind the counter because for a couple of minutes I thought that she may be floating above the ground! The herbs are organized and plentiful in variety and avaliability, there were tinctures and remedies already packaged, there is really nothing that I can say that is not in love about this shop. As I was wondering around a customer called in to inquire about specific herbs , Karen located them, let the person know that it was the last of that particular herb and that she would put it away for her!!! That's sevice, she also thanked me for having travelled from BX to her shop and in all honesty I should be thanking her for being a calming ray of sunlight on an otherwise hectic day. I got sick a few weeks ago and wanted to try some alternative methods to boost my immune system so she gave me a mix of a few teas. I am so happy this fabulous store is in my neighborhood. There are spice blends, teas, and various herbs here that you can buy by the ounce. Additionally, there are some really nice bath/body products & herbal supplements. There are tea blends for all kinds of ailments. I tried the allergy blend and it really helped me! I've also tried the "Higher Vibration" blend, which was also delightful. The owner is so helpful and sweet that I really feel welcomed here.
