I found this place from TikTok a while back and decided to check it out and see what herbs they sell. I was soooo pleased with their selection and how everything is placed in very large jars. It reminds me of the Asian herbal place I've been going to since I was a child. The shop smells so good and herbal-y. The two sweet ladies that helped me out were so kind. I asked how long the shop has been around for and they said 31 years! Amazing! I was really happy with their selection and happy to see lavender is available. There are essential oils, crystals, books, products of make incense and other things you can buy. Everything is amazing But especially their breathe life. I'm not hugely into holistic for my asthma, because it really is THAT bad and always has been. Called earlier in the day specifically asking for "ceremonial cacao". Since they are a well known experienced apothecary, I assumed they would know the difference between "ceremonial grade cacao" and "regular cacao". After driving from NJ, over an hour of traffic and tolls... it turns out they don't know the difference and wasted the trip. When I said this wasn't "ceremonial", the salesperson replied, "how much more ceremonial do you want it to get? It's organic and comes from Peru. NOT!! Ridiculous!! Ceremonial Cacao has been prayed over and completely different. Also about 10 times the price. Totally dissatisfied and will never return. read more

Truly one of a kind herb shop! They have a very, very extensive collection of herbs, spices, teas, oils, roots, etc. As an added bonus, you can find little mixtures of herbs made by local herbalists and witches for all sorts of conditions. They also offer workshops on things like candle making and medicinal herbs, among other things.  I found the staff to be very friendly and knowledgeable as they were able to make thoughtful recommendations based on what I was looking for. In the short amount of time I was there, I learned so much about the different healing properties of various herbs. I walked out with some sage and palo santo and can't wait to use them.  I'll definitely be back to pick up a few more things and try out a workshop! read more

Whoever the new owner - or manager - - tall skinny blonde woman -is she was quite brusque to me. I usually love this place. Came in and asked for 2 ounces of different herbs She said "do you want to grab the jars or should we?" No one's ever asked me that before. I hesitated. GOOD I'm glad to make this review weeks after making the purchase so I can attest to the efficacy of them. Early in March I ate something that was beyond the typical food poisoning as I continued having symptoms beyond the usual 24-36 hours and given it was a treatable condition I decided to treat it in the way our grandmothers would - brew herbs! So YELP told me the closest herb shop to me in an area and a lady with glasses took command on asking if I needed help after the younger lady at the register had 0 clue about what is what. Very knowledgeable, the lady in emerald glasses talk to me about the properties of the many herbs I was considering plus some extras she suggested based on the symptoms, in that I appreciate her help. BAD Although initially helpful, the Lady with the green glasses felt at times pushing products. Some suggestions were genuine regarding what the herbs were going to be used for but, other suggestions were add-ons that were not necessary. This became more obvious after I already picked the herbs I was buying, while being charged I wanted to see what else I could I get before leaving (a tea maker, an utensil, something else I might fancy just because) and that's when she started to push store-made products that I felt were a little pandering (to those of us, who uses spiritual/metaphysical language) and I didn't appreciated that. GREAT If you're an entrepreneur or executive that simply does not have the time to go to a doctor or you don't want to take drugs to heal common ailments, the use of herbs is as effective as thousands of years ago. Lemon Verbena, Red Raspberry and the Calendula flower are a great trio to deal with stomach and digestive processes ailments such as a bacteria you may caught from eating something undercooked or otherwise fkup your super delicate stomach. It calms down your digestion process and get it back to normal - read between the lines - you can also add Wormroot powder to water in order to ingest some fiber after dehydration. Drinking it twice a day (or more), this tea will take care of things in less than 7 days. Get yourself a portable tea-maker, if you're currently traveling for business, for dry herbs. However, if you don't feel like falling in the tea-drinkers-wagon, the shop has pre-packed tea with a variety of flavors so if you're in East Village, is a very good option. read more

Oh my, Flower Power! I've been coming here for years and I don't know why I never thought to write a review. I live in Queens but I make the trip to the city just for this place. I use their Rose Water as a spray for my face every single day for at least 3 years now and I love it. If you bring your bottle back it's a discounted refill. My bottle top even broke once and they gave me a new one. The staff is here is always warm and ready to answer questions. I've had some great conversations with them and always leave feeling like I've learned something. When I was pregnant, the employee at the counter even took the time once to check if the herbs I was making a tea out of were ok for me. She was very sweet and grabbed the herbs off the wall for me so I didn't have to climb the ladder. She also recommended a book for me which I purchased and loved. Lata's Herbalism class is amazing. A friend and I went when we could. We learned so much and got to taste some yummy concoctions. Their loose leaf teas are great (I like Vibrant a lot). The wall lined with herbs is beautiful and the vibe and smell of the place makes me just want to sit there for hours. The wall is pretty self explanatory, everything is labeled and you get the herbs yourself and bring them to the counter. Of course if you can't find something, they will help you. I use their bar soaps as well (I stock up on a variety every time I go). I tried their seaweed bath bag once too and loved it. I love Flower Power! read more

The amount was huge I had no idea how much I would receive I'm going to get jars I'm using ziplocks. Whoa the smoke on the mugwort amazing passionflower I'm at a State of bliss. Didn't smoke hops yet one piece of advice the brown bags are very thin I know it helps with the environment but USPS popped my hops some of it got out. No biggie but just a suggestion. As an herbalist, I love Flower Power. It holds a hugely important space in NYC. But as a customer, there are some setbacks: they don't formulate tinctures for you. And You can't refill existing tinctures you have. This is because they don't have a food distribution license. If you go into other herb shops in Brooklyn like Radicle or Antidote, the herbalist on staff can put something custom together for you. But at Flower Power, you just buy preformulated tinctures, single herb farm tinctures, or single bulk herbs. Good quality place. read more

Now that I've become a little more fastidious, I realize that I can't just dole out 5 stars to love at first sight. That said, Flower Power can't get any better for what it purports to do - sell herbs. I didn't realize how difficult it was to procure fresh lavender in the city. I now know that the Union Square Greenmarket sells 3 oz of culinary English lavender for $10, and Whole Food's in NYC do not stock lavender. Flower Power has both inorganic lavender (meant for potpourri; 3 oz for $10 as well) and organic lavender (at $3 per 1/2 oz or $5.40 per oz ... I think the prices do decrease as you buy more). I guess it was more expensive than at the Greenmarket, but I love that a) I can buy it by weight, b) it's fresh, and c) it smells heavenly - the aroma has already deeply permeated my bag. And it's organic! There is a whole slew of other herbs (and teas and oils) to purchase, but I was primarily riveted by the wall of alphabetized, clearly-labeled glass jars with prices. The organization and selection are phenomenal, the service is excellent, and the store is simple and accessible. The two women who work there are clearly very knowledgeable, sweet, and wonderfully helpful. I currently don't have other herb needs, but I know I'd definitely return here to get any other high-quality herbs. read more

The fragrance of herbs hits you gently reminding you of the NYC herb stores in the 80s and 90s (I wasn't here yet in the 70s) great little mom shops like Aphrodisiac and that fabulous place in the East Village Angelica's Herbs and Spices whose owner gave me my first product blending advice to use glycerin to assist blending essential oils into a water based product (which eventually became my Ritual 1, Intention-Based Aromatherapy product). What an amazing shop to randomly come across. I always go to superiority burger but usually come in 9th street from avenue A, this past Saturday my friend came to visit me and I was telling him I was feeling sick and how I wished I could find an herbal medicine store as I've become plant based vegan over the last 2 years. but I googled and nothing came up. Anyway, we went about our day showing him around NYC as I slowly died in the heat with what felt like the beginning of an intense cold.. He wanted a burger so of course I took him to the best veggie burger spot in NYC but this time around I entered 9th street from 1st Ave and my god am I grateful we did that because I came across the lovely ladies at flower power and told them what I was feeling, I was advised to take Rapid Immune Boost by Herb Pharm it was 7pm I took it immediately in some water..
