There is a wide selection of delicious local foods at excellent prices, including fruits, vegetables, meats, maple syrup, honey, baked goods, and jam preserves. Some vendors sell soaps, aprons, baskets, hand-carved spoons, and other specialty items. A few vendors sell potted plants and fresh cut flowers. There is free coffee. Everyone is very friendly. There's a tent for folk music jammers - you can join in if you're into that, or just enjoy the free music. The book tent gives a free book to kids, and they can play on the wonderful playground just feet away. The playground has 4 slides, swings, a merry-go-round, toys to sit on and ride, monkey bars, and lots of other fun equipment to climb on. This farmer's market is definitely worth checking out if you live in the area. I recommend buying some fresh peaches or a local watermelon or cantaloupe.

There was a great variety of items available; pastries, baked goods, meats, cheeses, milk, local beers and LOTS of vegetables. I loved how many vegetable stands there were. Pastry prices were a bit high across the board but the ones I purchased were good. There was even a small amount of local art available which I love to see at farmers markets. I assumed the market was contained to the pavilion but to my surprise I realized the market also lined portions of the streets and around the pavilion. If I lived here I would find it pretty easy to do the bulk of my protein and vegetable shopping here. I almost forgot the mention the plethora of flowers.. GORGEOUS flowers!

We got there around noon and there was so much to look at. I was drawn to the Dubai brownie but we had lunch right before walking to the market. At the flower table we stopped at I got three stems for 10.00. They do take cash or you can go to the farmer's market information table and buy tokens for your purchase. The fresh produce looked really good long with the baked items on several tables. There is a table that does handmade pasta that looked really good. Since I watch my carb intake sadly I past that table up they also had mini meatballs made with a mix of pork and beef. There was a variety of cheeses, wines, beer, some tee shirts, a food truck that had really interesting drinks and different flavored lemonade flavors. I love seeing all the dogs at the market and although we don't have a dog I thought about getting a cat backpack and taking our cat.

Just located not far from Scottsburg historical district and pretty easy to get to if coming from Interstate 65 or Hwy 3 from Charlestown. It is in a large field next to barn like building that does have sign that says "Sale Barn & Flea Market". We got there around 7 am, and most vendors had already been set up and already selling their goods, so happy we had nice weather that morning before the nasty humidity showed up. Many of the sellers were your average flea market types that sold everything and anything and somethings you don't think you need till you see it lol But I was on a mission to get my zucchinis, which I did about 20 lbs worth then some. I got the regular type but also picked up 5 yellow ones, the seller told me they have a nutty taste to them (they did) Once I got what I set out to get, I went crazy with buying other fresh goodies. Tomatoes, potatoes, honey, sweet-baby watermelon, apple-butter, blackberry jam, 2 candles and 2 hanging plants. that was just the outside part of this farmers market, granted there was many other fresh veggies and fruit but I had got more then I needed. I then went inside and browsed the items that were inside the Barn, there was many things new & used, I did get my daughter and myself each a very colorful tie dye shirt (we are suckers for those) Overall this was a great little Farmers & Flea market, they are there on Saturday mornings into the afternoon if no rain. I was told by my friend Kenny that it varies how many sellers are there each week so I guess I gotta go back again and again. So if you want to get the best picks get there when they start 7 or 7:30 in the morning because someone like me may come and buy them out of zucchinis.

We arrived about 1:00 pm., and still had to wait in line to order our food. All of the sandwiches are made to order, and have generous portions. Most of the patrons were wearing masks, and we tried to keep the 6 foot distance between us, but we couldn't always keep the correct distance due to the number of people inside. We also picked up a few grocery items, and some no sugar added milk chocolate peanut clusters that my hubby really enjoyed. They have a couple of shelves of no sugar added items, including a beverage mix, flavored gelatin, and various candy including fudge. We will definitely make a return trip here! Hubby and I sat outside on the covered porch to eat, and most of the crowd was gone by the time we finished. If I had waited to get my grocery items then, social distancing wouldn't have been a problem! On another note, they do accept credit cards, and power the grocery operation with solar panels.

VanAntwerp Farms are out of Seymour, Indiana. Today, they were selling spring produce. The lettuces were huge and beautiful. I counted four different varies plus kale. The strawberries were so fresh that I had to pick up a quart at $8. The clerk was friendly and worked quickly to keep the line moving. He gently bagged my strawberries. The strawberries were delicious - one bite took me back to my childhood of eating fresh picked local berries. The berries were perfect, dark red and super juicy. You have to get there early to get the lettuce - it goes quickly at only $4.

VanAntwerp's is based in Reddington, Indiana about 5 miles North of Seymour and their 50 acres of farmland produces tomatoes, zucchini, cucumbers, peppers, green beans, winter squash, pumpkins, eggplants, lettuce, berries, cantaloupe and watermelons. They bring practically all of it to Statehouse Market - it's incredibly high value produce at fair prices and with super friendly service week after week. Owned by David and Kim Sturgill, VanAntwerp's is also known to bring plants and other items to the Statehouse Market. I'd say they're one of the most consistent truly "farm" type vendors. The employees are always knowledgeable and can help you select the correct items for your needs. This includes being able to explain different types of tomatoes and other fruits and vegetables. I haven't experienced VanAntwerp's outside of Statehouse Market, but I've never heard a bad thing about them and never bought a bad product from them. So, if you're in the downtown area on Thursdays between 10:30am - 1:30pm, stop by the Statehouse Market and you can pick up remarkably fresh veggies. I've been buying flowers from them for about a month now. (The secret to keep your flowers alive longer is to add a cup full of vodka to cold water and an ice cube). I change my water on a daily basis using this method and my flowers last a full 7 days). We also stopped at Nate's to get coffee. I got a cold brew with foam and a shot of toasted marshmallow. My friend got a drip coffee and a bagel with spinach artichoke spread. She said it was really good but on the messy side to eat. I also picked up a jar of carrot cake jam from salad days. There were jewelry booths, that included homemade soap, vegetables fruits, baked goods , fresh pasta, different condiments and spices, rubs, beer, cheese, and assortment of beef, chicken,pork, farm fresh eggs and so on. It was busier than normal today but I think that had a lot to do with people graduating and the fact that the previous weekend was derby so people were out of town. The people selling fresh flowers were extra busy because tomorrow is mother's day. We saw a variety of dogs too which is normal. I like that the main area of the market is sheltered so you have protection from the weather elements and shade for when it gets hot in the summer.
