Neil was so sincere, honest and knowledgeable when talking to me about the many repairs my can needed. He organized and guided me with the order of importance to make sure I had a safe vehicle to drive! As a woman, its very easy to be taken advantage of however,I never once felt that he was trying to "get over on me" and just take my money! The receptionist Neil is very courteous and provides detail explanations. This was my second appointment with Saf T Auto Wallingford. My first delt with a repair in relation to a loud noise from what I was explained was a bearing issue in the rear. Along with a new alignment and other services, the repairs were made at a very high cost. There was no noice and the car was in good shape. In a few months, the same exact noise returned. I returned it to Saf T Auto only to discover that the caliper was "frozen" and I needed more repairs that would cost $1,300 +. It was explained that the bearing was not the issue this time around. It was the caliper. I decided that alone should be fixed because I simply could not afford to pay the larger cost. I was assured the caliper replacement would fix the issue with the noise. After the repairs, I picked up my vehicle and drove off and immediately my alert AWD light came on. I returned back to the Saf T Auto where they fixed the alert light. After traveling less than two minutes, the same exact noise that was the issue to begin with returned. I contacted Neil. He said that the bearings will have to be changed after all. I refused to pay for additional services because the part was under warranty by Saf T Auto. Neil concede that it was and explained that it will be fixed at all cost in three more days. What troubled me the most was that the underlined issue of the noise conming from the rear was never repaired after I was assured that the caliper was the issue. And to insinuate that the bearings needed to be changed at an additional cost intially then to confirm that they were under warranty after I refused to pay the cost is severely suspect. No apologies we're given. No "we will repair as soon as possible." I was told it was safe to drive around with damaged bearings. Somehow, I believe that is not an accurate statement. I'd give no stars if I could to reflect this second visit. read more

Knowledgeable, friendly, and service with integrity. SAF-T Auto Centers has been servicing all our vehicles for the last seven years. Neil and his crew bend over backward to make sure everything is safe. They will also tell me when it's time to stop pumping money into a car, and replace it. He services our cars the way he would for his own family. They explain how and why things need to be replaced and will also let you know that something does t need to be done yet, but it will be need to done at the next servicing, if the car continues to be used in the same manner. Originally I had praised them for their honesty. Never wrote a review on here though. But I was happy to finally find a place that didn't seem like they wanted to just soak you for as much money as they could. Spent a decent amount of money there on several cars ($2000+). One day I specifically told Neil that I change my own air and cabin filters on all my cars and that I will never need that service. The next time my wife brought in her car, he talked her into the filter replacement. Ugh. Fine, he forgot what I told him. Then I got the bill. AN HOUR LABOR CHARGE!?!? The air filter and cabin filter replacements don't even require tools! For the air filter you snap off a few spring clips, pull off the cover, swap the filters, replace the cover and snap the clips in place. Takes less than a minute. Same with the cabin filter. I actually timed myself on a cabin filter replacement; it took me less than 30 seconds. I explained this to Neil and he said it takes "a minimum of 45 minutes to do a cabin filter change." No, it doesn't. It only takes that long if you are ripping me off. I do valve adjustments on my cars; I think I am qualified to state that a cabin filter change does NOT take 45 minutes! I was willing to forgive and forget this incident. I then brought my car in for brakes. He told me that my serpentine belt was cracked and needed replacing. I agreed to that service over the phone. He call me back later and said that he could not replace the belt because the belt tensioner was frozen. I needed a new belt tensioner as well and it would take a day to order that. It would cost a few hundred dollars. I declined the service at the time because I needed my car. It is now several months later and I happened to be at a Honda dealership in Wallingford getting my wife's car worked on when I mentioned my serpentine belt and the broken tensioner. The Honda guys were curious about the tensioner because they've never seen one fail. They don't even keep them in stock because it is so rare that they break. So I had them replace the belt and check the tensioner. They told me that there was nothing wrong with the tensioner and it did not need replacing. So make your own judgments about the situation. First I get ripped off on a filter replacement, then I was told I needed a tensioner replacement that would cost me several hundred dollars when there was nothing wrong with it. My initial five star impression has now been degraded to a one star and I feel like I needed to post this so others don't get ripped off. If you go here, get a second opinion if you can. I'm kind of sad because I thought I finally found a mechanic shop that wasn't trying to rip me off. read more

It took me long enough to update my review but I shall do so warn others abt this rip off business. Like many other reviews I also experienced the same thing: there was always something wrong with my car. Wanted to get timing belt changed and he wanted to charge me $700 I got it changed for $400 and that too from a certified dealer. Please dont get ripped off, take your car elsewhere, or else you will keep coming back to repair things you don't even need to. His " 6 points" inspection is basically to see where he can charge you more money. read more

I did a review on here before and I gave this place 5 stars because at that time I was foolish. This place is a rip off. There was always something wrong with my car, or my husbands. There was never anything done right the first time. We always had to be inconvenienced over and over again to keep coming back. There was a time when Neil argued with me about the state of one vehicle insisting it had been sitting for a long period of time. Umm no....I used one car, my husband used the other daily. Another huge issue was when we had the tires rotated on one car and when driving on the highway, we thought we had a flat. Got out, nothing was wrong. Couldn't figure it out. Called AAA and we found out the bolts on our tire were never tightened and we were lucky our tire didn't go flying. I had gotten laid off for a while, so my grandmother helped us out a few times and he had her wrapped around his finger. That was the only reason we went back after that because she insisted. Well, the last straw was when I did some research and I knew he was trying to charge me for top of the line stuff to fix my car. When I called him out on it, suddenly, the price was 1/2 what was quoted. Even though he still insisted better products last longer. Not if they are installed by you buddy. Never again. Haven't been back in over a year since we got a new car. He for sure isn't touching this one! read more

I came across SAF-T Auto Center on Yelp while looking for a place to get an oil change. I must say the reviews were correct. Neil and his staff are very personable, extremely knowledgeable, experienced, honest and on point. They explained everything in precise detail as well as pricing. Brought my car in for a simple brake job. After 50k+ miles I needed new pads and rotors on all 4 wheels. Cost: ~$750. Fine, go ahead. All part of owning a performance vehicle. These guys just could not get it right. I immediately noticed a pronounced squeal (which indicates current damage to both pad and rotor) when I picked up the car. I brought it back....FIVE TIMES over the following month. Every time I was told the problem was fixed. Every time, they were wrong. I ultimately gave up, knowing these clowns were completely incompetent. Still mulling over whether to take them to small claims court. I WILL NEVER, EVER, EVER HAVE ANY WORK DONE HERE AGAIN. Came in with a tire problem--and left happier than I could have hoped due to their willingness to write off costs that most people would have over-charged or at the last charged baseline for. This business was recommended to me when I bought my first car, and I won't go anywhere else for repairs! They are honest and won't even charge you if you get a checkup and there's nothing wrong with your car. I recently brought my 12-year old VW bug to SAF-T to have my power window repaired. I was impressed by the entire experience: Neil was friendly and checked me in efficiently and the waiting area was clean and neat. When the problem had been diagnosed, I received a phone call and a very clear explanation of the repair needed and the price. It was expensive, but Neil completely explained why the parts were so costly and the difference between repairing a window regulator in my car vs. some other cars. I felt very comfortable, knowing I wasn't getting ripped off. My car was ready in 24 hours, the pick up was hassle-free, the price was exactly as stated over the phone and no one tried to upsell me anything else. Found Saf-T on yelp (Go Figure). My car was overheating from the night before and I wasn't sure of the problem because I had already put coolant in my car. Spoke with Neil, he was very polite and took a concern to the needs of my car. I was able to bring it in so they could do a thorough inspection of my car to find the direct issue. The wait time was pretty lengthy, but it was a holiday so I assumed everyone was bringing their car in to get something fix. Neil and the front desk staff are extremely friendly they even offered to give me a ride home until my car was done. I would highly recommend them to anyone in Meriden,Middletown and other areas nearby. I am extremely happy with the service I've received from Wallingford SAF-T Auto since I started going there last fall. The short story is, these gentlemen are knowledgeable, honest, and quick. I've been doing the work on my cars for a while now, mainly because I could never find a mechanic I could trust. My sister in law and her father recommended this shop from the several positive experiences they've had. I could tell the first time I went that these guys could be trusted. There was nothing I could put my finger on, but it was just a gut feeling that they weren't trying to screw me around, and there was a perceived concern for my car's needs and my safety. I went for a simple oil change and they gave me a list of issues with my car, with a straightforward red, yellow, and green color scheme to show the severity of the various issues. I could only afford the oil change, but they gave me quotes and options for all of my needs. On my most recent visit, I asked them if they could check some codes my car was throwing. They checked the codes, and with their experience they were able to quickly find and repair my issue. My car had been stalling and running poorly for about a year. I even had to learn to drive with two feet and I got really good at shifting to neutral and restarting the car with no power steering or power brakes, sometimes while turning, and at least once on 84. They fixed it in about five minutes. This is after I tried to fix it myself for a year and threw parts at the problem that didn't help. I know I'm going on and on and could be accused of "gushing", but to be honest it's such a huge relief to have the problem fixed, and to not have to worry about it, and it was a quick and reasonable repair. I can honestly say this is the first shop I feel like I can trust, and they've probably added a few years to my life after this last repair. Go here for your car needs with confidence.
