We enrolled our daughter at Valley Oak when she was 2 years and 5 months old. She is our only…read morechild, and during the week, my mother cares for her while my husband and I work. While we are very grateful for my mother's help, we noticed our daughter was having too much screen time. That's when we decided to enroll her in preschool so she could socialize with other children and adults. She currently attends three days a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday). I was very apprehensive at first. My daughter cried a lot in the beginning, and leaving her each morning filled me with guilt. I found myself constantly second-guessing our decision--were we starting too early? Should we wait another year? During the school orientation, we heard from other parents whose children had similar struggles adjusting at first, but eventually settled into their new routine within about a month. I was still skeptical. There were days when I wanted to quit, but we pushed through those first four weeks--and I'm so glad we did. Eventually, my daughter stopped crying during the drive to school and at drop-off. I can confidently say that the love and care from her four teachers made all the difference in her transition. Ms. Sasmita, Ms. Anitha, Ms. Van, and Ms. Kathy are incredibly patient, kind, and nurturing. They truly care for my daughter as if she were their own. One example that stands out is how they handle her comfort items--her milk bottle and her blanket. Instead of forcing her to give them up, they gently encourage her and thoughtfully support her transition during school time. To me, this is going above and beyond. I worked in childcare for six years at a well-known nonprofit organization, starting as a teacher's aide, then becoming a teacher, and eventually a center director. Because of this, I feel I have a strong basis for comparison--and I can say that the Montessori approach here is truly exceptional. What I appreciate most are the practical life skills being taught. My daughter comes home excited to show us how she can match socks, fold clothes, and even sweep with a dustpan. She has always been independent (she's an Aries, after all!), but I've noticed that now she actively wants to participate in everyday tasks because she's practicing what she learns at school. I rang the doorbell twice and received no response. I then proceeded and called the phone number posted on the front door, 408-539-1222. The employee asked which location I was visiting, and I confirmed the San Felipe location. I was told they would contact someone to open the door. After waiting an additional 10 minutes, I knocked on the door again and still received no response. Quality The lack of communication and assistance made this a very disappointing experience, especially for a scheduled school tour. Value Based on today's experience and the level of inadequate customer service provided, I will not be considering this school for school enrollment.

The #1 reason I chose Explorer Preschool was the required monthly Parent Ed Classes. As a former teacher, I love learning but not too proud to admit that I need to pay a school to hold me accountable. Sleep deprivation is a big deterrent. Explorer, however, is special because what we learn is immediately applicable. Parents learn from each other, ask questions we hadn't thought to ask yet. We get the opportunity for our LOs to be loved and supported by a caring community of similar values. We, too, fall in love with other LOs and get to watch them all grow up together in a safe space. We don't have family here, which was daunting to say the least, as first-time parents in 2022. Now, after 4 years, we feel like the close families that we've bonded with will remain our friends for a lifetime. I love how much my LO just goes up to other parents just to have a good laugh, and how much these other LOs come up to tell/share the most exciting news of the day. Being part of Explorer has been a once-in-a-lifetime experience…read more There's a joke that parenting is the one job nobody has to pass a test for -- that there really ought to be some kind of "SAT for parents" before anyone is handed a child. Explorer is the closest thing I've found to that school, except it never tests you. It teaches you. And what it teaches is less about how to raise a child than about how to be a good parent -- and underneath that, how to be a good person. What it made me see most clearly is this: the bond between a parent and a child is one of the most extreme imbalances of power that exists. In no other relationship does one person hold so much control over another human being -- over their time, their body, their choices, even their sense of what is real. And yet we almost never name it as power. We take it for granted. As a society we rarely talk about the restraint a parent owes a child, precisely because the child has no way to demand it. Explorer takes that restraint seriously. The community here holds to a belief that is simple to say and surprisingly hard to live: that we are not only here to protect our children, but to respect them. And what surprised me most was what that respect produces. Children who are treated with respect learn to extend it -- to their peers, and to the world around them. They come to understand boundaries not by being controlled, but by having their own boundaries honored, and by watching others honored too. They learn it through play, through sharing how they feel, through being given room to work things out rather than being told how things will be. I'll be honest: none of this is intuitive, and much of it runs against how most of us were raised. It asks you to hold back in the very moments when instinct says to step in and take charge. It asks you to be challenged -- to be willing to find out you were wrong. So I don't think Explorer is the right fit for every family. It's for the ones ready to walk in open-minded and let themselves be stretched. For us, it was exactly that. I'm deeply grateful that our family found Explorer, and that we've had the chance to be part of it.

Communication with her is seamless, and I love that she frequently shares stories about my child's day. The teachers are loving and responsible, my child has formed a wonderful bond with them. My child has learned so much and has made rapid progress here. Amanda even provides customized teaching materials tailored to each child's different level, which is impressive. The program is primarily in English with a valuable half-day Mandarin class at least once a week. We feel so lucky to have secured a spot here. My daughter went to Safari Kids's Pre- Kindergarten from February when she was 3 years. In just 6…read moremonths our daughter learned so much on her from general etiquette and chores (cleaning up, washing hands, potty training, etc) to coloring, writing ABCs and numbers, identifying animals, etc. She was potty trained but was not comfortable outside home but here Ms Sumi made trained her very well. The layout of the classrooms were a big plus for us. The restrooms were separate for boys and girls and they were clean. They had lots of activities to engage the little kids. They even encourage every kids presenting a small Speech once a month that really helped my daughter trying to remember and recollecting words. And best part of this School is they enjoyed and celebrated every festival. And they are totally Nut free. She had some issues with her speech,we started her school here when she was not able to talk that much and left here the biggest social chatterbox. The teachers, especially Ms Vidya, Sumi, Jasneeth and Lavanya, were all incredibly helpful and supportive and my daughter was sad to leave.
