My 2 year old daughter goes to Valley Oak Montessori, and has been there for 6 months now. Being…read moresuch a young child, I wanted a loving, caring and homey environment for my baby, where she can be well cared for, socialize and enjoy, while also also learn, and grow. I don't have enough words to convey what a wonderful pre-school it is. The teachers are extremely warm and care for the little ones like they are their own. As a parent, you leave behind a piece of your heart and want to know your child is being cared for, where they spend the most of their time, especially of their crucial developmental years. Early on, teachers took care to learn Isha's naptime routine and even learnt the Hindi lullaby she was used to and sang it to her everyday. That really helped ease her transition from home to school. Their monthly menu is diverse and even has Indian meal options which was a big plus for me! They have a very balanced plate and I don't have to worry about my kid eating healthy at school. They also have very well planned weekly curriculum where they teach kids life skills, have them do projects, have monthly themes for kids. They engage with the kids 1:1, have circle and music time which is great for kids to learn new songs and dance. The classrooms are large, where kids have a very clean environment and a good selection of learning books and toys (See pictures). The outdoors is also very well setup for kids to have physical activity, twice a day. They post weekly newsletters on what the kids were taught at school and it helps us better understand what kids are learning at school. They also have special events planned for Thanksgiving, Christmas, where kids perform songs and have parents join in for the celebration. Mrs. Varsha, the program director is very warm and approachable, and makes sure to know and bond with every kid personally, despite having such a large facility. She makes sure to care for every kid's individual needs and receptive to feedback. She makes sure to take action on the smallest feedback very promptly, while always being very kind with the parents and her staff. The school is gated and I've found it to be very safe for my kiddo. The student to teacher ratio is also very healthy 6:1, and they regularly post photos and videos of kids on brightwheel, so you can see their special moments through the day. The teachers try to make sure every kid is well cared for, and I cannot emphasize what an incredible job they do! Taking care of little ones, especially in their parents' absence, everyday is one of the most important and rewarding jobs in the world, and they are doing a brilliant job at that. My older kid went to a different preschool and I wasn't very happy with how it was run, but I feel like I hit the jackpot with Valley Oak Montessori. Thank you very much for making it so easy for me as a mom to leave behind my child, knowing she's loved and cared for. It's a very hard job, and extremely well done! Big thank you to the entire team!

On my child's first day, they helped us quickly manage his separation anxiety and within 5 minutes they posted pictures of him happily playing on the Procare app. At the end of the day he was so excited to tell us about his day, the teachers, and the friends he met. I love the facility and the way the rooms are setup. There are 4 rooms connected to each other so it's easy to separate the classes during curriculum and free play, and it's also easy to teachers to hop between rooms as needed. The school provided excellent lunches and snacks, and posted great pictures of the children eating together on the Procare app. Also the outdoor play area is excellent. There are many cars, balls and toys for the children to use. The shade structures are expertly set up, and the playground equipment is fun and safe. With all the children ages 2-5, the teachers and facilities are perfectly tuned to these ages. Such a great school!

How are we supposed to know how our child is doing or address the behavior with no communication ? Barely 4 words to say at pick up. No notes are being sent home. Nothing like this. She is coming home with dirty underwear constantly. Is she potty trained, yes does she need to make sure she is doing a good job, also yes. Called us disrespectful for bringing our concerns to their attention. Said this is how they learn: "They are itchy and uncomfortable and it helps them learn to wipe better" Not one good thing to say about our child at parent teacher conference. They asked me what she liked, and I listed some things. That was the most positive part of the conversation. They didn't even prove to me they have gotten to know my child by telling me what she really likes at school. Only bad things. Only focusing on things she isn't doing well. Nothing good to say about her behavior or their favorite things about her in the classroom. Nothing. They said our child harmed someone with her hair clip. They removed her hair clip from her hair every day at school and re did her hair daily but never notified me of the problem till parent teacher conference. I don't know when it happened. No incident report nothing. When I was concerned about this being brought up at the parent teacher conference their story changed. She didn't hurt anyone. Like they will lie to cover their backs. Their stories changed. Trust is lost. No incident report. Didn't let me know what's going on when it happened. Nothing. They brought up many concerning things that have not even been introduced to my child at home yet like she is learning it from there and acting out They aren't doing their job at this school and the director is the main problem. Of course it trickles down. Extremely negative environment. I wouldn't recommend this school to anyone. Take your money somewhere else. This school is only set up for babies who start from the beginning. They want their students to act like robots and expect a 2-3 year old to sit at their desk for 8 hours a day. As if this is normal for this age and it is not. They expect your 2-3 year old to change their shoes when getting to school and at pick up. As if a three year old can grasp this concept. And they cannot understand fully why they need to wear shoes to school then change into school shoes. They were very annoyed about my child using the bathroom so frequently but she is learning and doesn't want to have an accident. Everything seems like a bother as if they do not want to do their job Good luck having your 2-3 year old start here at this program. Not realistic at all. Extremely disappointed I was never notified of behavior. I would like to know how my child is doing so I can be consistent addressing the behavior at home. How do you let things go for a month and a half and just wait till the parent teacher conference to notify of an issue. This is not proactive behavior or professional. Extremely happy to not have my child going to this school anymore. My child cried every day for a month at drop off saying she didn't want to go here. It is a daily thing to convince her to go. Other kids struggle greatly at drop off too. Maybe this is a HUGE RED FLAG!!!!!!! None of the kids look happy here. Not one.

I also love the picture updates we receive and all the thoughtful celebrations and holiday decorations throughout the school year. It's so fun, warm, and inviting! There was some teacher turnover in Pre-K, but even that ended up being a reflection of the school's strength. My daughter absolutely adored Ms. Christina, who took a short leave for personal reasons, and then grew just as fond of Ms. Sarah, who was also wonderful before she needed to step away. Both teachers were missed! We then had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Michelle, who is incredibly sweet and caring. I initially enrolled my older son (now in kinder) at SFOA to help with socialization skills and getting him exposed to other children, however, he learned much more, and his preparation for kindergarten has been amazing. He went to the preschool for 3 summers and 2 academic years and loved the preschool so much, he didn't want to leave, and it took some time to transition to kindergarten. Before enrolling my son in kinder, I reviewed the list of concepts he would be learning in kinder, and it was great to see that SFOA had already covered a LOT of them. His current kinder teacher was also quite surprised that he knew as much as he did when she gave him a kindergarten-readiness test, which included some reading assessment. The children learn letters, numbers, phonics, vowels, simple math, sight words, basic prayers, and the pledge of allegiance. They also learn motor skills like coloring in the lines, cutting, and gluing, and the activities are themed be season or using biblical stories, such as Noah's Ark, Joseph and the Technicolor Coat, and God's creation. My younger son is in his second academic year and has also done two summer sessions. He is not as interested in learning, but his growth over the past few years has been astounding. He now spews out phonics and other concepts easily that we had been working hard to teach him at home. Ms. Rochelle and Ms. Tina are great teachers and work very hard to integrate kinder-ready and faith-based curriculum into the school year. They do not "babysit" the children. Each day, there is time for circle time for learning concepts and listening to stories, time for group potty breaks, snack time, and play time, which is also very important for a child's development. Overall, I highly recommend the preschool if you are looking for a supportive teaching environment for your children where they will learn about the faith in a fun way and be well prepared for entering kindergarten.

After my daughter was kicked out of another preschool http://www.yelp.com/biz/san-jose-parent-participating-nursery-school-san-jose#hrid:S-XbP45qBCbYOn6UIqmIQQ we came across St. Francis of Assisi. Wife and I are both Catholics, so for us it was a natural fit. Unlike my daughters previous preschool, this one isn't parent participatory, but it's the same price! It amazed me that they could put together such a good program on such a limited budget. The facilities are almost brand spanking new. The classroom is small, but so are the classes. My daughter is in the afternoon class and there has only been 4 kids up until this week when they added a 5th. There are 3 teachers. Rochelle Leggit is the director of the preschool program and will sometimes take a spot in the classroom. Then There's Miss Maya and Miss Stella who are pretty much the regular teachers. Finally there's Miss Raquel the music teacher. Not a bad teacher to kid ratio. In my daughters class that's 1 to 1. Now if you read my review of the other preschool you'll see my daughter wasn't exactly 100% up to speed with the other children her age. The teachers here have been EXTREMELY patient with her, and treat her with nothing but love, kindness and praise. It makes my eyes well up with tears just thinking about how wonderful they've been, a godsend, an answer to my prayers. Rochelle, Stella, Maya and Raquel if you're reading this, I love you for what you've done for Elise. God bless you, I think us coming to you was a part of his plan for my little girl. I hope nobody thinks I'm being over dramatic here, but these really are special people. Going from a jackass, untrained teacher telling you your child is abnormal to St Francis staff who have never once said that, and treat her with love and guidance is nothing short of a miracle for me. No matter what your religious beliefs are, this program is really special. You would be hard pressed to find a more dedicated, loving staff for your child. My girl still has some issues, but thanks to the love and guidance of her teachers she has come a long way. She's a chatterbox now. She plays dress up and wants to be a ballerina. Thank you for giving me my daughter. God bless.
