We enrolled our daughter at Valley Oak when she was 2 years and 5 months old. She is our only child, and during the week, my mother cares for her while my husband and I work. While we are very grateful for my mother's help, we noticed our daughter was having too much screen time. That's when we decided to enroll her in preschool so she could socialize with other children and adults. She currently attends three days a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday). I was very apprehensive at first. My daughter cried a lot in the beginning, and leaving her each morning filled me with guilt. I found myself constantly second-guessing our decision--were we starting too early? Should we wait another year? During the school orientation, we heard from other parents whose children had similar struggles adjusting at first, but eventually settled into their new routine within about a month. I was still skeptical. There were days when I wanted to quit, but we pushed through those first four weeks--and I'm so glad we did. Eventually, my daughter stopped crying during the drive to school and at drop-off. I can confidently say that the love and care from her four teachers made all the difference in her transition. Ms. Sasmita, Ms. Anitha, Ms. Van, and Ms. Kathy are incredibly patient, kind, and nurturing. They truly care for my daughter as if she were their own. One example that stands out is how they handle her comfort items--her milk bottle and her blanket. Instead of forcing her to give them up, they gently encourage her and thoughtfully support her transition during school time. To me, this is going above and beyond. I worked in childcare for six years at a well-known nonprofit organization, starting as a teacher's aide, then becoming a teacher, and eventually a center director. Because of this, I feel I have a strong basis for comparison--and I can say that the Montessori approach here is truly exceptional. What I appreciate most are the practical life skills being taught. My daughter comes home excited to show us how she can match socks, fold clothes, and even sweep with a dustpan. She has always been independent (she's an Aries, after all!), but I've noticed that now she actively wants to participate in everyday tasks because she's practicing what she learns at school. After waiting an additional 10 minutes, I knocked on the door again and still received no response. We've had a wonderful experience at Valley Oak Montessori. My elder son attended Montessori classes here with Ms. Varsha and Ms. Sasmita, who are both incredibly caring, experienced, and dedicated teachers. Writing this review is honestly so bittersweet because after over 3 years at Valley Oak Montessori, my son is officially graduating preschool and heading off to kindergarten in just a few weeks. I genuinely can't believe we're at this chapter already. This school has been such a huge part of our lives, and I already know I'm going to miss it so much. The curriculum here is beyond impressive (as always continues to impress me). At only 5 years old, my son is already reading independently at around a kindergarten/1st-grade level, writing sentences on his own, and genuinely enjoys books. His math skills have blown us away too. He's doing addition and subtraction, has already been introduced to multiplication and division concepts, and they're even counting into the thousands. We constantly catch ourselves asking, "Wait...how do you already know this?" One of my favorite things has been watching his love for geography and history grow. He comes home excited to tell us about Europe, the Stone Age, cavemen, Ancient Greece, medieval times, different cultures, and countries around the world. He can literally point out countries like France, Italy, Iceland, Russia, and many others on a map. As parents, it's amazing to watch a preschooler become genuinely curious about the world around him. And it's not just academics. They incorporate music, dancing, singing, public speaking, practical life skills, science, geography, cultural appreciation, hands-on Montessori learning, and so many creative activities that make learning genuinely fun. Every week there was something new that sparked his curiosity. He's been enjoying his other extracurriculars with soccer, Legos, and chess class as well! The summer program deserves its own shoutout because it's honestly fantastic every single year. They keep the kids engaged with themed learning, special visitors, fun activities, water play, and they even end the summer with a field trip that the kids look forward to. It never feels like "just daycare." It feels like an enriching experience where they're constantly learning while making amazing memories. And can we talk about Brightwheel? Seriously...it's the BESTTT. Even after all these years, the teachers consistently upload tons of photos and videos throughout the day. As a working parent, getting those little notifications always made my day. Being able to see my son smiling, learning, playing with friends, performing songs, or proudly showing off his work gave us so much peace of mind. That consistency never faded over the years, and I appreciated it more than they'll ever know. Most importantly, I want to thank the incredible teachers who have loved and cared for my son. My son started VOM about a month after he turned 3. The teachers were very supportive and patient with him, as he is a natural introvert. They nurtured him well, and he had recently started to socialize better with other kids and start to come out of his shell. My son loves the arts and crafts, story time, and toy cars outside during playtime. He rarely cries at drop off and feels very comfortable with VOM. Academically, VOM has taught him a lot about other countries, flags, numbers, letters, and much more. Their fun activities during Halloween, Winter Recital, Mother's Day, Father's Day, and Spring Recital are also wonderful ways to involve families in their education. The best school districts that offer similar programs are in Santa Clara, Fremont, and Palo alto. From tracing numbers, words, shapes, working on fine motor skills, to learning how to count, to phonics, different animals and sounds, objects, nature, painting, summer programs : water park, magic show, birds show, petting zoo, you name it! This school has them all! The kids are allowed to explore their curiosity and creativity. But what is truly best about this school that no other schools around offer the programs Varsha (the director) brings in. The only other Montesorri and preschools that have these programs are in Palo Alto, Santa Clara and Fremont (which are known to have best school due to their programs). For instance, soccer, magic shows, puppet shows, ocean life (water park set up), zoology (petting zoo), NASA outerspace, dinosaur world, ornithology real birds exploration, and weekly real coaching for soccer! I asked all around and none of the Montesorri and Preschools in San Jose offer this but Varsha brought them in bc of her experience and accumulated many vendor contacts throughout the years, and she knows how to run a great school with spectacular programs. I have a large community of playdate friends and sad to say the schools around are so easily to take your money and sell you on a nice new facility, nice toys and big names, but dont invest too much into running programs like schools in Palo Alto, Fremont, and Santa Clara. 2025 Long Update Review: Rating 11/10 Stars My son is now 4 and is currently in the Oak class (preschool room). All I can say is WOW, so much has happened in a year since my last review in '23/24. The teachers and staff here continue to help my kid thrive so much at such a young age. I'm really impressed by the super advanced curriculum that they're offering and my son has learned a lot: - Science/Tech: nomenclatures and botany, body parts of animals/plants, etc - Geography/Culture: it's really cool that they've learned about many different countries (i.e. Vietnam, China, Philippines, India, and more) - Reading/Writing: They teach the children how to read/write their names, multiple words. Show and tell weekly to help them do public speaking with the letter of the week. My son's vocabulary has exploded and is confident in speaking long sentences and can read short books at home - Math: He knows all his numbers up to 100 (including writing), can do addition/subtraction. They even teach the "quadrilateral prism"/geometry, decimals/fractions concepts - Practical Life: I absolutely appreciate them teaching the "soft skills" (I.e. dishwashing, courtesy) - Circle time: He memorized all 7 continents, 9 planets, 7 days of the week/12 months of the year, 4 seasons/weather. The teachers have the children sing songs that help them remember all of these, and lyrics of nurseries too. - Extracurricular Activities: Legos class and Chess class. Can't believe he started chess learning at 3, and us as parents don't even know how to play this sophisticated game!? Last year summer's program was REALLY FANTASTIC. They keep the kids busy with water activities, magic show, parrot show, puppet show, etc and so much more. I am looking forward to this upcoming summer program as they have new things coming up. This school constantly has educational guests (dentists teaching dental hygiene, musicians playing instruments, Japanese geishas sharing tea ceremonies). Okay, like, this list goes on & on. It's really awesome that the staff truly embraces diversity and all cultures. My favorite part about this daycare/preschool is that they send me photos/videos throughout the day to update me on how my kid is doing. This comforts us knowing that the staff are trustworthy & taking very well care of the children while we are busy at work. My only complaint (more like high compliment) is that I wish they would open up another location closer to my house. My husband and I commute 30-45 mins all the way from Morgan Hill (we just moved from SJ originally) to this school because it's WORTH it and high quality compared to any other day care I've seen in the south Bay Area. We hope and plan to keep our son here until he starts Kindergarten next year. We love the community and the staff/teachers here are absolutely wonderful!!! They truly love and care for your child and listen very well to parents if you have questions or need anything from them. My 3 year old goes to Valley oak and I would greatly recommend this early education to any caring parent. Really well tuned and structured learning methodology keeping budding minds in focus. Based solely on touring. Director is nice and kind but talked over me quite a bit, felt I had to try to get my questions in, but was difficult. Communication is key for me. My daughter has been attending Valley Oak Montessori for about 9 months. She initially joined Busy Bee class and recently transitioned to Cherry Blossom class. She is an extremely shy kid who did not say anything at all initially. However, with the teachers' kindness, patience, and care, she just started opening up recently and started talking to her teachers and friends. I greatly appreciate all the teachers there especially Cherry Blossom's teachers (Ms. Sasmita, Ms. Anitha, Ms. Kathy, and Ms. Mai). Ms. Varsha is also very dedicated and committed to improving the school curriculum and activities. Our daughter has flourished since starting at Valley Oak this school year. The teachers are very attentive and caring, she gets the individualized attention she needs and I can tell that she will be more than ready for Kinder in the fall. I am so glad we ended up going here even though this is a bit of a drive to and from school. I can wait to see how much our girl develops by the end of this year. My kid has been going to this school Since April 2023 and it's the best decision I made for him. I see so much development in all aspects - behavioral, academics, participation, confidence, and critical thinking. I want to thank all the teachers especially Ms Sanchayita and Ms Praveena for helping him grow into a better individual. Special shoutout to them for helping him to prepare for his Kindergarten Assessment test. So, yes they would do things outside curriculum too to help your child move forward. The quality of their curriculum and activities is top notch. I have personally got the books they teach from and printed them for him to practice at home. Very pleased with the school. Teachers are friendly and encouraging. It's a great balance of academics and fun. They have an app to communicate and send pictures and videos throughout the day ( have had my kids in other preschools in evergreen and Milpitas area, none of them did this ).
