Sex shop and "Costume" store, maybe. Definitely NOT, a comic book store! We tried several times to give them our business, instead of internet sales, but if you're polite and straight you're made to feel unwelcome. Example: After wanting to give them yet another chance, and being helped by the same staff member for our third'ish visit in a row, we decided to compliment a staff member for their consistent and courteous service. They were probably warned after we left that we were evil cis, because subsequent visits were completely opposite. Or does it say more about society (or our area), that you can't just be nice to random people without them thinking the worst? So after giving them many chances, we've decided no more. They don't do anything positive for the community as a whole, just "their" community. This area deserves a better comic book shop and definitely don't bring your kids in for Pokemon cards. read more

I have been going to this shop for about ten years now and have watched its evolution. They have become a very important business to the community. It supplies comics, Wide range of TCG and its accessories, models, costumes, tabletop/board games, and novelty items. They have a lot of employees that check on the customers. I was visiting from out of town and we stopped by here three time while we were here for a week. First to see what they had. This is a considerably larger store than the one we have in our town. They had basically everything a nerd could want. DND books and minis, magic cards, Pokémon, half of the store was cosplay stuff, mangas, war hammer, and other rpg and tabletop games. They had a reasonably sized play area that we could see. We intended on coming to the Friday night Magic events that they host but sadly we're unable to make it. The store was clean and the people were friendly and helpful. One of the cool features that they have is a tablet in store that you can search for cards through. You can also get the app and leisurely search at home and they will have the cards ready for pick up. read more

Eh. Some costumes and lingerie. This store can't seem to decide if it's selling comics and memorabilia or lingerie and adult toys. Fairly large location though and the stock rotates often so this may be the right store for you. You will not have an issue parking because the lot has about twenty spaces. Downtown Moscow also has street parking so hooray! The staff is generally friendly and knowledgeable. As in any store that all depends on the day and who helps you. Prices are fair on most items. As far as the adult items they do mark things up but being in Moscow you don't really have a lot of items for some of their merchandise. Amazon is bigger now so hopefully management will tweak prices accordingly to keep it competitive. If you're grabbing a few extra accessories for a costume or Halloween party this is your local spot. I do not understand the negative reviews of this store. The employees were quick to help anytime I had any questions and even told us about the free module Saturdays. The unique thing about this store is that it is not a toxic atmosphere like you may experience at the downtown Pullman gaming store. It has gaming of all types such as cards, board games, and table top rpg's. There is also costuming which I think fits quite well with the rest of the store as many gamers enjoy cosplay and the like. It was clean, the employees were respectful and were quick to remove negative customers who were rude, inappropriate and disruptive. I cannot praise this store enough. Wide selection of games from children to adult. Lots of Warhammer and D&D merchandise. Not a large selection of comics in store but I believe they will order whatever you want. Costumes/cosplay stuff rotates throughout the year, and the hidden adult-toy area has an okay selection. But I will definitely recommend this store for board games and Warhammer!! read more

I have been a regular customer for about 18 years. I mostly frequent the costumes, wigs, makeup, accessories, and Eclectica (the "adult items shop" in the back). I find the variety of things they have interesting. They have a "little of a lot of things," and to call them a "comic book shop" is a bit of a misnomer at this point in the history of the store. Their store sign now says "Safari Pearl" with "Comics, Games, Costumes" beneath. Safari Pearl started as a small comic book shop over 20 years ago, and Eclectica was likewise as small, and they remain a business owned and run locally. (The owners are there almost all the time.) They are one of the few small businesses in the region that has stood the test of time - and there are reasons for their longevity. First, they change and update their inventory with the times. Second, they offer a personalized feel and service and have actual knowledge of and experience with the products they sell. Finally, yes, they watch their inventory like a hawk - especially the areas that are "high theft areas" - namely costumes and wigs. Once they get to know you, they are less likely to monitor you as closely. Their reality is that the perpetrators are almost invariably between the ages of 15 and 23, and they aren't a store that can afford to absorb the shrikage (theft) like a big-box store or the fly-by-night Halloween stores. The monitoring is upped around Halloween season - their biggest time of costume sales and also the biggest time of theft. Rather than being upset with the employees, I am irked at the theives who necessitated the heightened surveillance. They also do not put up with people spending time in the store just reading the comics or graphic novels for extended periods of time with seemingly no intent of purchasing them. They will ask you to leave. Just a heads up, as I have seen it happen and heard stories. But again - if you're doing that, you're not a customer - you're loitering and technically stealing (if you want to hang out and read books for free go get a library card). They are patient with true customers looking though the binders of game cards, or comic books for something they may want. As for Eclectica, I really like the atmosphere. Small yet neatly-arranged, well-lit, and clean. Not a "seedy sex shop" type of place at all if that's what you picture. They typically have a specially-trained employee there, if not one of the owners themselves, who is friendly and knowledgeable, but has also been trained to "give you your space." Eclectica employees are also usually female. I see one review below where a male employee was there and was too close the whole time, and that is unfortunate. I can say that that is not typical and he likely didn't normally work in the back. (Not that that excuses or trivializes the experience. I am just saying it so that others who see this review can know that they are unlikely to have that experience today.) Overall I have enjoyable experiences there and will continue to be a regular customer. read more

I went here today because the costume portion of the store was recommended to me by a good friend. I was also told there is a sex-toy shop in the back room that I should check out. First off, as I was looking through the costumes, I was consistently followed by an employee as if I was going to steal something. They have just one dressing room, and the employee stands outside the dressing room the entire time, making you feel uncomfortable and rushed. Second, after showing an older female employee my ID to enter the sex shop, she ordered a younger male employee to be in there while I was. He followed me around the entire time I was in the sex shop, and it was very uncomfortable. I do not appreciate the lack of privacy that was given while looking at such a....personal election of items. If a female is going into the sex shop, they should have a female employee in there - and perhaps one that doesn't follow you around everywhere. I absolutely will not be back. read more

For a comic shop, it has a really minuscule selection of comics. There are a couple shelves against the side of the wall, but the amount of current comics is almost non-existent. Then there's a couple tables with older selections of comics, which I appreciated. Please correct me if I am wrong, but if you want to get a subscription box, it's pretty pricey. I asked the cashier at the time and she told me that you pay for your box, then you also pay per series you want to subscribe to, then, of course, you pay for your comic as well. There are no other benefits other than that you are guaranteed a copy of whatever you're subscribed to. It was being justified that it's due to the fluctuation of college students coming in and out, so you also have to pay to cancel your box as well. Aside from the comics, there were also TCG -- mainly Magic, figurines, board games, and costumes. It seemed like this store tried too hard to do everything that it doesn't have much of anything. Despite the lack of items, my visit was still pretty pleasant as the cashier was friendly and helpful. If I'm ever out in this area again, it's hard to say if I'll go out of my way to revisit. read more

I was really disappointed in this store. I came in looking for comic book recommendations and was pretty much ignored. When I finally was able to get some help, it seemed as if I was inconveniencing the store. The store layout is weird and the selection is very limited. I felt kinda awkward the whole time I was in the store. The stores prices are rather high and they don't do any sales or promotions either. So I would recommend going to someone else in town or just shopping online. I won't go back. read more

Safari Pearl is a fun locally owned business. Their new location is awesome; I really like the bright and friendly atmosphere. I found all my gaming supplies here. They also have a large collection of board games, comic books, costumes, wigs and theatrical makeup all year round. It is fun just to see what they have in stock. They were willing to special order items that my friends needed. The staff was knowledgeable about their products and friendly. I also like how Safari Pearl participates and donates their time in local events. read more

If I could leave a 0 star review I would. I was sent to this shop by a friend and on my first visit was REFUSED the sale of an item on the grounds that I was not a regular customer. I'm just gonna talk about Eclectica which is the small sex shop located in the very back of the store. As the other reviews say, yes they will ID you and watch you like a hawk. This makes the sex toy shopping aspect a bit more awkward. The room is small but has a wide variety of things and uses the square footage widely. I personally found myself a bit rushed bcuz I was being watched and I wished I could've looked around more. I get it though, I understand that they worry about people stealing things. Pricing isn't too bad, there's a bit of a markup on some items but overall I'd say it's very fair pricing for a small locally owned shop. I hope to come back with more money and really enjoy myself. read more

I totally disagree with the previous review. Back issues start at a quarter and the majority are in the 1 to 2 dollar range. The Golden Age books are priced and graded fairly. The board game selection rivals larger cities and the Magic card singles are organized well and priced below online sites. The costume selection is good and the staff is very helpful. If you don't like dogs and cats this isn't your store. If you love pers you'll the 2 dogs and the cat. Nice folks who kow there stuff. read more

I can't attest for the comic books and games and all that "nerdy" stuff, but as for the makeup and such, it's great! What other place in the area can you pick up costume accessories and such in the middle of the year! Also a fabulous selection of Ben Nye makeup! I don't know where you can get Ben Nye in store even on the west side. Everyone there has always been really nice and helpful when I've been there. I don't know how prices compare to other costume shops, but it doesn't seem too outrageous. read more

I got in the store knowing exactly what I wanted so when I was asked if I needed help I said no. It was not long before it was clear that I was being followed. (Creeper) peeking trough shelves and around cournors, it was weird , strange and totally creepy. After ten minutes of feeling very uncomfortable I left. An hour later I went back to talk to the owners. They made it clear it was all my fault for not realizing it was costumer service to be stalked. (They clearly did not care) After I ordered the stuff I wanted online I went to yelp and found out this offensive stalking like behavior happens a lot. (another situation) I was carded three times in one week by the same (carnie) dude to get in the back room. Theres no way he did not remember. He as well watched us like a hawk. Very strange experience today with my friend Alexis. We were followed as if we were criminals the whole time. And when we went into the back room, we were chased down for our ID's (fine), but he continued to watch us, and look at us in a small compact room that was filled with sex toys. We were just back there looking, but we both felt violated and super awkward. We left the room and went towards the door and he was still behind us the WHOLE way to the door. My friends and I have have been in this shop multiple times and had thought we created a friendly rapport with the owners. Apparently not. We were looking through the costumes and my friend went to try some on. An employee came back to let us know (very kindly) that it was company policy that we get help taking anything out of bags. Very understandable. So we continued trying on costumes that we not in bags, but were just hanging on a rack. Then, the manager comes back, looks at my friend, and literally yells, "No!" She then proceeded to direct him to take it off right then and began reaming her poor employee for not telling us or something? She opened the curtain of the changing room to check on my friend while he was still changing. She took the costumes (which weren't in bags but had bags hanging next to them) and demanded that her employee put it back together. Another employee rushed over to help him because it didn't look like he knew what to do and they talked quietly about how he had been getting yelled at from her all day. We quietly put back the items we intended to buy and left. Won't be back. An employer shouldn't treat her customers or employees this way. read more
