Temporarily closed! Although hours show open. Loaded a bunch of wast for nothing. Hours should be updated. Not a good idea for folks to ride around with waste ready to dispose and place is mysteriously closed. Updated-called the number on the sign 800-773-2489 and they say this site has been permanently closed for several years now. Closest place per the 311 city operator is a SAFE Center on 2649 E Washington Blvd in E Los Angeles. Not sure why there continues to be a "Temporarily Closed" sign when 311 says permanently closed. read more

I've waited in line for over an hour at another location in the past but I was in and out of here in about two minutes. To find this location when you get off the freeway it's on Colorado with a sign pointing to the entrance. You keep driving in and you'll see a similar sign for waste drop-off. They are opened weekends, much better than other locations which open once every few months. They adhered to COVID safety. Everyone is masked up. They ask that you have your waste in the trunk of the car and they take it from the car for you. Very easy and very safe. read more

I've also tried to go here to drop off some of the "SAFE" materials for safe disposal, and it's closed. It's been closed for TWO YEARS now! What's frustrating is that 1) there isn't another place that is nearby for these services, 2) nobody on site seems to know when it will re-open, and 3) trying to contact L.A. City Department of Sanitation (the department that is responsible for running these centers) is completely non-responsive. If there is anybody who works for the city reading this (hah - good luck on that!) please post some information SOMEWHERE (such as a reply here?) about when it will open. It's counter-productive to have to drive maybe 20 additional miles to recycle this old paint and other stuff. I'm sorely tempted to just toss it in the trash, but so far my concern for the environment is keeping me behaving. But YOU NEED TO GET THIS CENTER RE-OPEN AND SOON! read more

Make sure to follow every single one of their guidelines for covid particularly the "Put everything you want to recycle in the trunk." In fact, PUT NOTHING ELSE IN THE TRUNK. As soon as they open your trunk they will just grab everything. You will be asked twice before they open it "What are you recycling today?" but I don't think anyone is listening to your answer. You also will not be able to leave your car to make sure they take only what you want them to, and you'll have no way to verify afterwards if they did it right unless you pull over on the street outside the facility and by then if they took something, it's gone. So I appreciate the free electronic waste disposal service, BUT, understand that the workers are not listening to anything you're saying. They're on autopilot to a degree. read more

This is a great FREE service the City of Los Angeles provides. I was able to drop off an older stereo shelf unit and speakers as well as an old printer/copier/fax machine. Both were no longer working and were deemed irreparable. It gave me peace of mind that these old electronics would be disposed off, if not, recycled properly by people trained to handle such things. S.A.F.E. stands for Solvents/Automotive/Flammables/Electronics so items such as household paints and solvents, fluorescent bulbs, used motor oil, car batteries and electronic waste like computers, monitors and printers, etc will be accepted by them. This collection center is right off the 5 Freeway on ramp in Glendale and the Edenhurst exit. Follow the signs. There is an employee at the entrance to the facility and again at the gate right before the collection site that will make sure you are at the right place. You stay in your car, drive in to the collection site, state what it is your dropping off, pop your trunk and they unload the items to be collected then you drive off. It takes just minutes to do it all. I found it to be totally helpful and convenient. I will be utilizing this service again in the future when I have items classified for them to collect. read more

This is the closest S.A.F.E. (Solvents/ Automotive/ Flammables/ Electronics) Center near Pasadena and I love it! They take a lot of hazardous household waste items like oils, paints, aerosols, batteries, light bulbs, and electronics. (check the website: https://bit.ly/2S3khog) They will even take car gas...just put it in a container you don't want back. They do also take sharps (needles) and they gave me a medical container to put them in. I used to go frequently, like every time I had a small box of batteries and bulbs, but it seemed like they wanted me to wait until I had more. It's a little hassle to store up a bunch of waste so that you have a lot of it but I didn't want to get on their bad side. So just be aware you may get that comment. For a free service, this is an awesome place to ease your environmentally-friendly heart. I wish I knew where all this stuff goes but for now it's a temporary solution to preventing this crap from going to the landfills. Let's do our part! read more

If you've ever wanted to be in one of those movies where a deadly toxin/germ/chemical/virus is spreading all over the world and everyone except you is wearing those scary-looking white overalls with masks and gloves and goggles and generally treating you like Typhoid Mary, this is the place for you. Which is to say that they take safety very seriously here. If you have a whole lot of unwanted household items that really shouldn't go in the dumpster (paint, expired nail polish, old batteries, bottles of varnish remover, that old VCR, e-trash of any type), this is where you can take them to be properly disposed of. You drive up to the checkpoint, which feels a bit like Checkpoint Charlie: they ask for your zip code and God forbid you try to take a picture. They will shut you down for "security reasons." Then, stay in your car, and follow the arrows to the collection site. DO NOT GET OUT OF YOUR CAR or something bad will happen. I am not sure what exactly but this is where the folks in the white overalls do their thing. If you try to help them, they will NOT BE HAPPY. You can do it the easy way or you can do it the hard way. I always prefer the easy way. So just let them take your toxins out of your car by themselves and follow their instructions to the letter. Then, you are free to go, knowing that you have made the world a better place. Weekends only (search S.A.F.E. Centers for details.) Parking? There is no parking here. You have to have a Level Four Security Clearance to park here, so don't even think about it. Drive through only. read more

The last time we visited was before 2020 and now again recently June 2022, so I do not know if they made any restrictions or changes during crazy Covid times. With that said, it's always easy peesy here! We've never had to wait more than 2 cars in front of us. We've recycled paint, batteries, used lightbulbs, etc. This past visit on a recent Sunday morning we were the only car in line. Just follow the cones til you see the first person by the tent who will ask for what's in your load ask and your zip code. Then drive in and the workers will gladly open your trunk and just take whatever you need to UN-load! You may want to clean up your trunk first to avoid confusion. So easy and simple! Pretty fast processing of items, nice people. I Took a TV, two Microwaves, a bucket of used oil, two car batteries, four metal containers of paint thinner and kerosene, and a box of solvent. They accepted everything except one car battery, one microwave and the box of solvent. They have a 15 gallons per day limit rule. They count your e-waste as part of the 15 gallons. As others have said, clean out everything from your trunk except what you are taking to SAFE. They told me they could give me the address of another location in Los Angeles or come back tomorrow with the other items. If you are recycling used car oil, old car batteries, take those to your local PepBoys before going to SAFE, so they do not add to your 15 gallon limit. If you are recycling old house paint, spray paint, or thinner then contact Home Depot, they have a few rules about the containers, but they accept it for recycling. read more

I got redirected here by Burbank Recycling Center that said they weren't collecting electronic waste on Saturdays now (which wasn't on their website) and to go here instead. I drove over to Glendale to unload a trunk full of electronic waste and waited in a line of cars only to get turned away by the employees once I reached the front, who claimed I came in after they were already closed (I was literally the only car left). I never got to experience what other reviewers did, because I never made it through the line. How could this experience be so excrutiatingly slow, at least on a Saturday. Maybe better to go middle of the day on a weekday if you can or first thing in the morning. After sitting in an enormous line of cars in 95 degree heat, as I got closer to the front, I began to see how long it was taking for cars once they actually turned into the facility, so at the last moment I turned around while I still good and left. On the one hand, hard to criticize a county service because the lines are long, but can't this place be staffed to handle the demand? Trying to do the right thing by taking my paint cans here instead of just dumping them somewhere, and it was just not worth it. I am sure LA county could care less about my review, but this type of DMV-like service just encourages people to dump illegally. read more

Might be a bit hard to find but once you've gone once, you'll be able to find the location again. The place is open WEEKENDS only from 9-3pm, just drive it, the city workers in white jumpsuits take care of the rest. No need to get out of your vehicle. Make sure you turn off your engine when you get up to the guys. Pretty easy in and out. The workers will help you out if it's your first time. Great little setup for accepting hazardous and e-waste. Found the drive through process to be straightforward and people were generally friendly and helpful. Plus they take a wide array of items. Compare and contrast with experience I had same day with Glendale Recycling a mile a way (would not recommend), and I would definitely return here for all that stuff you know shouldn't go in your trash can. read more

Glad that this place exists, where it's relatively easy to dispose of old medicine and small appliances that no longer work. The employees, though, are for the most part, very poor examples of people who provide customer service. I have encountered approximately six of them, and only one was friendly. ONE. Half of them care so little that they can't even be bothered to stand up when people pull in- they just yell at us from their chairs. They look like they're on break. Turn right at second driveway where there will be a person who asks a few questions - what you have to drop off and what is your zip code. 01-08-22 Line 75-100 cars with a car moving once about every five minutes. There was no way getting there one hour before closing that half the people waiting were going to get taken care of. Typically in the past years process is 2-3 cars per minute with a zero to 5 car wait. Something is drastically wrong. In today's world, probably incompetence; but it's the government so I guess I should not be shocked or upset for my one hour round trip and a half hour waiting before I just had to leave. read more

This place is so great! You can literally drop off anything you need that you cannot throw away in the trash or recycling been here. It's only open on weekends and they let you stay in the car for your own safety and basically clear out your car and take away all the hazardous materials that you don't need anymore. Came here yesterday for the first time to get rid of a broken printer and toaster oven. The rules are pretty strict, so be prepared. I cleaned out my trunk and only put the 2 items in it. Where I messed up was not stopping at the tent right at the entrance where there is a person with a clipboard sitting. She yelled at me and was pretty rude even after I told her it was my first time. No worries, I didn't take it personally. She asks what you have, how you heard about them, zip code, how far you travelled. Then you just drive on through, remain in car, turn off engine, pop trunk, wait for them to remove items, wait for car in front of you to leave before turning on engine and exiting. Plenty of staff directing you through this. Easy peasy. read more

Off the 5 Colorado exit towards Colorado Blvd, first exit before the freeway ends regardless if you are coming from the North or South. Look for the front entrance and drive in, go past the first stop sign and you will notice the drive-thru cones. Once you are their, turn off your engine and they will open the truck/cargo space for you and just tell them what you are dropping off, they will ask for your zip. Seriously easy to get rid of things that aren't supposed to go in the garbage because they are toxic: Fluorescent light bulbs, Batteries, Paint, Solvent, Most aerosols, Pesticide, engine oil. It's easy, aside from getting a bit lost which I've done so many times it's now part of the fun (and explains why I can't explain it now -- but others do a great job below). Now the trick is to start using fewer of these materials.... we're starting small with rechargeable AA and AAA for the family of remotes that seems to reproduce when we're not looking.... Best to reach from the 5 North, taking the Colorado St exit. The address itself is Colorado Blvd, a block South and parallel, in an industrial park near the LA River. Watch the legal paint drop-off limits. They'll also take solvents and electronics that most other folks won't touch. He makes $35 bucks that day and you acquire a huge sense of relief. How come he didn't have to wear a Tyvek suit though? It's open at the absolute best time! 9am to 3pm on weekends. So, I've been driving around for the past three months with a busted up VCR (damn thing tried to eat my Lost Boys video... I had to punish it accordingly) and computer bits (no idea where they came from) banging around in the back of my car. The reason I held on to this stuff so long was that I heard about the S.A.F.E. Collection Center and figured I might as well dispose of this stuff properly. If I had known how freakin' easy it would have been, I would have done it ages ago! It's only open Sat & Sun, so it's got to be squeezed in with all your other weekend errands... but I'm telling you, you would be done with this errand in less time than it takes to read my wordy review of this place! When you pull into the Center, make sure you have your ID ready in case the guy is actually there to verify that you aren't a terrorist planning on blowing up the Water Reclamation Plant. I guess we were only on Level Yellow during my visit, because the mister was nowhere to be found so I just kept on driving. There are strategically placed signs and orange cones pointing you in the direction you want to go... so if you get lost, well, you've got bigger problems. You are instructed to cruise into this little back lot where there's about 5 guys workin' on breakin' down electronic stuff. You stop your car, turn it off, they come up to you and take out all the stuff you are getting rid of and you don't even have to lift a finger! I wish I had known this before my arrival since my bag of goodies was buried under the Goodwill donations (yes, it was a Getting Rid of Crap Day) but they were able to fish it out and send me on my merry way. Seriously, this was way too easy so there is NO excuse for throwing away hazardous or electrical waste in the dumpster! So the address is wrong on the flyer and on here. It's 4600 Colorado STREET. ST. The only way you would have found it is if you type in the zip code which is 90039. It is in Glendale right next to the 5. IT IS NOT IN EAGLE ROCK. Which is where 4600 Colorado Blvd points you. And once you do find it there is a MF railroad in the way. The best way to enter is Edenhurst right off the Colorado exit right off the 5. It's a shame that something so important to do is so difficult to get to. Also if you try to call that number on the flyer it does nothing. Press 1 and you hear a recording of Antonio Villaraigosa. There is no one at the plant answering phones. So if you can't find it, read this review. Otherwise it's simple and they take the stuff out of your trunk while you sit in the car. read more

this is a very helpful service and place and i've been here many times. i'm sure if you've got a garage or work room, it is full of half empty chemical cans -- paint, oil, cleaners, thinner, what not. with some of the cans having lids rusted and screwed on tight, or with the labels so old and torn or faded you don't even know what the chemical inside is anymore. well even after cleaning out many times before, i was cleaning out some more. i had lots of paint cans. if you shook them around, you could tell there was almost nothing in them. so sure as heck no reason for me to store them especially since as noted above, they were also in crazy crappy dirty shape! i loaded them all up. i also oaded some all up from my neighbors too. i also had some new electronic waste to recycle (old cell phones, cables and cords outdated machines, broken light fixtures). anyway drove on down here on a saturday (they are ONLY open saturday and sunday... 9am-3pm both days), and as usual everyone was nice, fast, efficient. they unload it all and for what had to be at least 50 paint cans, i was in and out in less than 5 minutes. they provide a valuable service, with pretty easy access (take colorado exit off 5 freeway... and you are RIGHT there!.... if you take local streets you have to zig in and out and out b/c it's on an industrial side road). and they make it super easy to clean out your place and be nice to the environment! so go clean your room! or... your garage. and bring all that chemical crap and stuff down here and they will help you be a happy camper. read more
