Docks are tired, missing cleats and rough. Bathrooms are disgusting. Showers covered in black mold, 2 out of 3 shower heads broken off, soap dispensers broken off wall and laying on sink. Front gate is rusty. Whole place just looks tired. Dingy docks are full with dilapidated, half full of water boats without motors. And on top of that, they are charging $4/ft for transient dockage! This is my 1st, and last Safe Harbor experience. read more

I had pretty high expectations for a Safe Harbor Marina after hearing about how they buy up local marinas and turn them around. This is a small marina with less than beefy wooden floating docks. Most of the staff-in particular Kathy and the other woman- are very helpful and friendly. There is pay laundry facilities, and free showers and bathrooms. There is quite a few restaurants within walking distance. read more

We were able to visit Beaufort by way of Safe Harbor and had a great experience here! The staff were all very helpful and it is situated next to Bay Street with plenty of restaurant options. They are also right next to a beautiful park, Henry C Chambers Waterfront Park, where we were able to take walks and enjoy the numerous swings and benches. There is also a nice playground area for children. We found the restrooms to be clean and really enjoyed our stay. Can't wait until we can make another trip down the ICW from Charleston again soon! read more

I called to make my dock slip reservation months in advance. Apparently this was before everything transitioned to online booking, as their website didn't have online showing at that time. I called again several weeks prior to confirm my dock slip reservation. Upon arrival, they had no evidence of my reservation. They essentially told me to find a spot, yet then I was fussed at for finding a spot belonging to an annual slip holder. Then we had to find another spot. A friend with us used the online booking system to secure a slip for his boat, yet he was still not assigned a specific dock or slip space. They'll take your money but may not save a spot for you. read more

I have been to this marina in numerous occasions. This is not a "club atmosphere" marina with a swimming pool and party but, it's instead all about being part of its setting, the old town of Beaufort. The marina is nice, the small store well stocked, and the people are very helpful. But the coolest thing is that the most charming area of Beaufort, a city not burned down by Sherman, is just steps away. They don't need a marina restaurant because there are twenty at the door step. They don't need a party tent to throw two functions a year because Beaufort throws a dozen right next to the marina. What could be better? So the good is everything, although I agree with the prior post that the restrooms could use updating with private bathrooms and showers instead of the old school style, but they do keep them clean. I wish I could give them 4 1/2 stars. read more

I am a local Beaufort resident for 24 yrs now and have NEVER been treated so RUDE by a local business owner, I am speaking of the owners of this marina, Mandy and Ricky. I have a boat slip in Port Royal, but was caught in a bad storm with lots of lightning and advised not to return to my slip, but use the day dock for the night. There was a large sailboat taking up most of the space and another boat sinking. I found refuge on the very end of the fuel dock of this marina. By the time I got my boat bunkered down for the rest of the storm, all dock hands were gone and the store closed. I left a note on my boat with my info and a description of what had taken place to land me there and also advised the boat captain parked in front of me. I returned the next morning at 9 am to move out and expected to pay an overnight dock fee...what I didn't expect is $106.00 to be the fee for 12 hrs. I offered to pay half, but that was not good enough for a LOCAL IN DISTRESS. I was informed that it was Waterfest and they were running a business and had to make money...I completely agree, but I wasn't some stranger to Beaufort and just asked for a little compassion to a LOCAL BOAT in Distress! The owner and I could not come to an agreement, she said she would have her husband, the Dock Master call me the next day..instead both my husband and I received a phone call from the Beaufort City Police, she had filed a report against me saying I skipped out on my bill. This is how a LOCAL Business Owner treats a local in DISTRESS! What a waste of Time and Resources...a SIMPLE phone call from the Dock Master could had resolved this issue. Again, I had stated over and over I would pay a fair Dock fee and had my credit card out and willing to pay even half, which is still too much. My husband went and just paid it in full and she had NO KIND words and was completely RUDE to him! My suggestion to anyone looking for a Marina for their vessel is to STAY AWAY FROM THIS ONE! Port Royal Marina dock hands and management are AWESOME!!! They cared enough about me that day to radio me and give me advise to not return in all the lightning and to seek shelter! read more

We've visited this marina on a few occasions and just recently decided to stay for a few months. Simply put this marina has one of the most amazing locations a boater could hope for right next to the waterside park and steps from fabulous restaurants and great stores. Everyone we've encountered thus far has been more than helpful and pleasant. The harbormaster, Rick, and his wife Mandy were gracious and professional and do a great job stocking their small marina store with fair priced boat essentials and attractive clothing. Michael, the dockhand who greeted us when we arrived was so helpful in answering our questions and checking back on us several times throughout our stay. The only reason I did not give it a 5 star rating is that the bathrooms, while clean and sufficient could use a little updating. Overall, we are very happy with our decision to stay at the downtown marina. read more
