I had shoulder reconstruction surgery about 4 years ago after serving in the military. I went to physical therapy for a while afterwards but it seemed like I was going no where. Besides, the surgeon told me I will never regain full mobility of my shoulder due of the type of surgery being performed and the measures needed to save my shoulder. I recently attended a free yoga class at SAFE and I told the owner about my surgery background and experience with PT. He showed me 3 or 4 exercises and I immediately regained full range of motion within 15 minutes. I couldn't stop lifting my arm up showing my wife in pure astonishment how far I could move my arm, mind you, it's been YEARS since I was able to do this and I'm only 33 years old. After doing PT sessions in the military, I've kind of gaffed off doing anything more, because I was told it was never going to get any better so why bother right? If only I had gone to SAFE physical therapy after my surgery, I wouldn't have had to suffer over the years. SAFE Physical Therapy is hands down the best PT I have worked with in years. I responded to an ad on Instagram for a shoulder assessment. I'm usually pretty skeptical about these things but my shoulder pain has been nagging for months without improvement despite resting from activities that irritate it like the gym and tennis. I never felt like the pain would stop me from doing these things but I felt limited and weak at certain angles. Really great treatment, I'm being treated for Tennis elbow and my rotator cuff. I've had physical therapy at a couple of other places before going to Safe Physical Therapy. My last experience was at one of the bigger locations here in San Diego. Each therapist seemed to be trying to treat several patients at the same time. They were so busy that I was often told to ride the exercise bike for twenty minutes, apparently because the therapist couldn't get to me, not because riding the bike would have been beneficial. It's at that last establishment that I met Calvin, the owner of Safe Physical Therapy. Calvin has now opened up his own shop, complete with the full range of amazing equipment . I have one-on-one time with him for the entire time I am in the office, no other patients there. That has allowed Calvin to show me various specialized exercises that get right to my torn rotator cuff, and strengthen all of the surrounding muscles. So far so good with the therapy. I am an avid pickleball player and initially had to eliminate any overhead shots from my game. After five sessions and my following the regimen Calvin has laid out for me, I am now hitting my overhead shots again, still not at full strength but pretty close. It is such a relief to get out there and play again as I was very concerned that I would be out of action for a long time.
