Driving around on roads with potholes causes lots of debris and, eventually, stuff gets thrown against your windshield. My wife's car, a 2019 Kia Soul, had a crack which started about halfway across and just kept growing. So after seeing hundreds of TV commercials for Safelite, we called and made an appointment. Here are the pros and cons: Pros: - Scheduling was simple. My wife did it online and Safelite confirmed twice before the day and time. - The price quoted online was $985 (with new wiper blades). This was without insurance (our deductible is $1,000) and no other price to compare. We figured Safelite would be about the same as comparable places. - Safelite is just north of the airport in Santa Maria so if that's your city it's quite convenient. - Her appointment was 930 AM on the first Saturday in January. It was busy, but the guy up front said it would be done by 4 PM. He called us at 315 PM. - The windshield looked fine and they cleaned the other windows in her car. - The "reception guy" was very friendly and helpful while handling other customers. Cons: - Who knows if the replacement cost of $985 was reasonable? We didn't want to shop around. - The Safelite office was 15 miles each way - twice - from our house in Nipomo. That's not too good, but the next closest Safelite places are Bakersfield and Ventura. - From all those TV commercials, you'd expect a Safelite truck to pull into the driveway of your house. DO NOT BEING YOUR LUXURY VEHICLE HERE! They turned a simple windshield replacement into a disaster. Their incompetent tech did not place it in right and messed up another related part that now has been at the dealership to get fixed and it is still not fixed! For a place that does only glass repair and replacement they should know how to service all cars and they clearly have techs that don't have a clue! They are to worried about speedy service then making sure it's right! This has been a 3 month process so far and we are still NOT done!! Horrible! read more

Worst warranty service! The installation was fine but my rear view mirror fell off. When I called to see if they would put it back on they said I'd have to drive over 50 miles to have them look at it first as mirrors are applied differently. They had just replaced my glass! They don't have customer information? Don't go here. Use a local glass company where they care about following up with service. read more

Noticed a small star crack on my mom's car's front windshield. Called her insurance company (Farmers) and the rep said her coverage allowed free chip repair or $100 window replacement. Rep mentioned Safelite and we found out they perform mobile services in the area. Scheduled a mobile service through Farmers and received appointment text reminders from Safelite. Received a text on the day of the appointment with a set time (8 am). Rep arrived around 8 am. No appointment time range here which is cool. My service person was Emily. She was courteous and friendly. Vehicle was clearly marked and she was in uniform. Service was quick. I am very happy with the experience. read more

Safelite replaced my cracked windshield in Oct 24. A major storm in late 2025 produced water leaks around the windshield. A technician came out from Santa Maria, and stated that they are required to do a water leak test before being authorized to replace it. The test produced no leaks. Just prior to Feb 21, 2026, a major wind driven storm produced water leaks. This time I took photos and video of the water leaking onto the dashboard and floor, and called them again. They came out again and insisted on doing another water leak test. Again, no leaks. But the conditions were not the same as the storm. The technician said that they cannot consider the evidence of my photos and video, and can only replace it if their water leak test produces leaks. Gone again with no resolution. My truck is 20 years old, but in excellent condition for its age and the original factory windshield DID NOT LEAK! Again, no leaks before they replaced it. The technician tried to convince me that the water is coming from somewhere else, but their replacement seems to have caused the leaks. read more

We recently had our windshield replaced through Safelite after filing a claim with our insurance. This was on a Tesla and I had no idea it would be such a big ordeal to replace the windshield on this type of car. We had to take it in and it couldn't be on a weekend, as the repair crew needed to be able to talk to Tesla to recalibrate everything. They kept the car a full day. We dropped it at 8am and picked it up after 5pm. It was super easy to file a claim with our auto insurance (USAA) and we only had to pay our deductible. Safelite handled everything else. The staff assisting us recommended we get new windshield wiper blades with the new windshield, so we agreed. My reason for only giving 4 stars is because one of the wiper blades they put on was the wrong size and they clearly didn't test them out. While it was raining and I was driving, I turned the windshield wipers on and the wrong size one banged on the windshield before wiping. It was super dangerous while driving. I'm very surprised they wouldn't have tested them to be sure everything was fine. We had to take the car in, again, to have that fixed. They couldn't come to us. Pretty inconvenient and, again, dangerous to potentially be driving in the rain with windshield wipers that weren't working properly. Otherwise, the windshield is great and they did a nice job cleaning it all before we picked it up. I'm sure it was a lot of work to recalibrate everything. Their staff are very nice and we were able to get an appointment pretty quickly. read more

Fantastic experience. I cannot speak highly enough of Kerry, Daniel, and Mathew. I originally had my windshield replaced at a different Safelite location while visiting family in Northern California. This was a very disappointing experience: The original location used the incorrect glass and did not properly install/fit the glass on my vehicle. This ultimately led me to schedule a warranty replacement in Santa Maria to get the windshield replaced and correctly installed again. From the initial rescheduling through the installation process, the Safelite team at Santa Maria was phenomenal. Special shout out to Kerry, who went above and beyond in tracking down the correct glass for my vehicle and communicating with me throughout the entire scheduling process. He was extremely kind, patient, and supportive. When I arrived for my appointment, I was warmly greeted by Daniel who not just checked me in, but also examined the incorrect installation and walked me through their entire installation and recalibration process at their location. My technician for the repair, Mathew, then came out just to introduce himself and share that he would be the one doing the repair. At the end of the repair, Daniel came back out to check me out, review the installation, and re-share about the warranty information. My entire experience at this Santa Maria location was night-and-day compared to the original location in Northern California. My experience at this location was wonderful. I feel extremely grateful for Kerry, Daniel and Mathew; and I am so appreciative of their time and care they put into re-replacing my windshield. Eric the technician is inexperience and the staff is unprofessional! He claims he is not responsible, that the machine caused the crack to spread. It's sad to see people lie rather than take ownership. The sealant is under the crack and there are two more chips in my windshield! Had appointment with safelite to repair a small chip in the windshield. They attempted the repair and broke the glass instead. They refuse to address their failure, claiming it's not their fault. Do not do business with this company. The proper interpretation of the official response below is: 'Hi Bob, we like to sell the public a repair service without any obligation to actually repair anything, and without taking responsibility for the additional damage we will cause along the way.' I tried for days to reach them about the warranty, they don't answer the phone, just goes to AI informant that directs you away from asking for help. Everything was fine.....UNTIL the end. Everything we received communication-wise from this Safelite office stated they closed at 5 pm. We live 20 minutes away from this office, and when we went there in the morning we informed them of this and stated VERY CLEARLY to the front off ice staff person as well as the service tech that we would not be returning to pick up our car until "right before 5 pm." They both replied "okay." It wasn't until 3:46 pm that my husband called me informing me that they - apparently - close at 4 pm. I rechecked everything we received from them and everything said 5 pm!?!? I called them and the man I spoke to stated that they "had done a lot of jobs today so we're just here now waiting for everyone to pick up." So, which is it??? Do you close at 4 or 5 pm? (I asked) - "Oh, we definitely close at 4." Interesting, since absolutely EVERYTHING - including a Google search - states that they close at 5 pm!!! This may not sound like that big of a deal, but in fact it really was: I had to get my 79 year old mother to suddenly rush from her house in Solvang to come get me in Los Alamos because we - apparently - now had exactly 10 or so minutes to pick up our car!?!? Realizing there was NO WAY we could possibly make that, we still FELT rushed and knew that we were now forced to leave our expensive vehicle (Tesla) WITH some possessions inside in their parking lot NOT LOCKED. I'm pretty forgiving when it comes to slip ups, but this? They basically either need to correct ALL of their communication templates with their correct closing time OR that dude lied. And, to leave a customer's car unlocked in an industrial area after paying a whole bunch of money to repair your auto glass??? NOT COOL. read more

I got my rear window replaced at this location...not a great experience. Picked up the truck at the end of the day & I was personally in a hurry so I paid, quickly inspected the work & left. Now looking at it with fresh eyes, there's a small imperfection on the outside of the glass (white dot, size of pencil eraser), and they never vacuumed up the broken glass. They charge you $35 for a recycling fee on your glass then half-ass the clean up. For $500 there shouldn't be glass anywhere in the truck. I totally understand not seeing a piece here n there. But there was glass on the drivers floor mat that wasn't even there when I dropped it off. Not to mention the floor of the backseats, or the bed of the truck where my turnover ball is packed full of glass. Take pride in your work, even if it just means cleaning up like you said you would & charge customers to do. I'd try a different location before here. I'm not one to write poor reviews but sloppy work shouldn't be an issue, do what you say you're going to do. read more

Came in for a windshield replacement. 3.5 hours in the lobby and they break my new windshield putting it in. They hadn't even started the calibration process. So it took them that long to remove and install a windshield minus the eyesight calibration. WTF? So here I have a new cracked windshield and drive off with un calibrated Subaru eyesight. I should have done my research. A simple google search will reveal the many unsatisfied customers. The insurance companies are in business with them and they make it difficult to go elsewhere but that's exactly what I'm doing. No compensation offered for wasting my time and gas to get there. Their only concern was to get me rescheduled. Hahah What a joke! Go elsewhere!!!!! Next day I went to Safe coast auto glass and he did the job in 1 hour and 45 minutes. Boom done. Perfect install. Explain that safelite took you 3.5 hours on just the glass removal and install and one second to break it. Shady shady shady! read more

During this rainy season, the roads are always unpredictable, especially when you encounter loose rocks or gravel that hit your windshield. What a pain to see your windshield snap, crackle and pop!! The manager of the shop has a negative attitude toward the expectations of corporate customer service policy and toward its clientele. I had to have corporate customer service agents correct the problem with the windshield tint being almost no tint. With their assistance, I had the original replacement windshield removed & had a Carlite OEM Windshield Installed in my 2012 Ford Escape. On the day of the install, a tech was assigned to replace the glass. However, the manager let the car sit for 1.5 hours before the techs replaced the windshield. The shop was not backed up in car glass repair jobs at the time. Plus, I sat that entire time in a cold waiting room because the manager did not repair the HVAC malfunction I had reported earlier at the shop. I was recommended this place by my auto insurance company AllState. They scheduled my appointment and took my car in to check it out. Within the hour they called me back and told me that their were rivets blocking the access ports to change the window. I took it home and looked up on YouTube how to change the window and come to find out it cost me two hours and 85 dollars to replace my window myself. These guys lied to me and turned me away so that they can free up some time in their day. I have no experience or any training with auto maintenance especially on a 2018 mercedes CLA250 that I asked them kindly to fix. They knew it was fixable and LIED to me but for what reason??? I scheduled a remote windshield replacement with this company. When the tech arrived, he began the job but quickly informed me that he wasn't sure he could do the job if there was rust found underneath my windshield. The tech told me this was a new policy or safelite that If he was to find rust, he would not be able to put in a new windshield since the company wouldn't want any liability for a poorly lasting job. What's particularly interesting, is that the last replacement job was done by this same company (see SGC logo on glass). In essence, this company refused to do the service because their affiliate did it poorly last time. Makes sense? I was disappointed that I was not given the option to proceed with the work even if I signed off on releasing any warranty. In retrospect I am very happy I used another company instead because I believe they did a great job. During the replacement I was told that it appeared that the previous Safelite employees (in the Bay Area) didn't treat the area with any primer which is what caused the minimal rusting in the first place. I wish that this policy was something the person scheduling me would have mentioned up-front given the work was being done on an old vehicle & sounds like some rusting is a very common thing. I wasted several days between scheduling and waiting for the appointment only to be using their competitor, Apex, instead. read more

Had a windshield installed on my BMW. After the install, there were a few big problems: 1 - The paint around the windshield is now peeling, and is chipped off in a few places. 2 - The windshield shakes when accelerating and going over bumps. 3 - The windshield is lacking the OEM tint, making the sun incredibly blinding. 4 - My rear view mirror was loose enough that it would just fall off. I looked into fixing it myself, and it took maybe 15 seconds. Incompetent and lazy installer. I am unsure whether these problems are due to Safelite as a company, or if it was an inexperienced installer. Either way I would NOT recommend giving this company your business, there are far better alternatives who will do it right. read more
