When I decided to sign up to I was told we could do either a make up class or if we let them know early enough we could not be charged for the class. They people couldn't figure out how to charge me so that was a whole debacle , and I went to pay they charged me a whole month. Come to find out they lied and you can't let them know in advance and not be charged. Now I still appreciated the make up classes so I decided to sign up. Now when I called to say hey I put in the website we were out but we didn't receive anything saying we got a make up class they said oh you only get 2 a month and only for 30 days. I have now canceled my membership. Onto the experience itself. The instructor is nice but he didn't know any songs to help calm my daughter who was getting used to classes again. There is no way other than jumping in and using your arms to get out. I beg and plead find someplace else. read more

Highly highly recommend this place a Ms. Taylor. We joined in Feb/March time frame and within two lesson my daughter (4yrs young) was able to float, wearing goggles, and floating. By 3mos mark she was able to backward quick with Coach Taylor not holding her. The scheduling on app and on phone was easy. I confused the team a lot with absence and Poe organization and they patiently dealt with me. I never felt stressed with having to make up classes though in the summer it may be harder given more kids are in class. Coach was great. Patient and on time and would take a bit more time if they didn't have back to back. My daughter takes Art, Music, Chinese and Soccer. She has a lot of instructors but loved the coach so much that her Barbie is now a swim instructor named Ms. Taylor. She also always ask for when swim lessons are and make sure we are not late. Wanted to recommend SafeSplash swim camp (aka SwimJam) at CitySports MV since my son had a great session last week and is doing another week of it, progressing to the next level. 4 consecutive days of lessons is the best! He made so much progress and the teachers are kind and fun, and know how to coach and challenge the kids at their level. SwimJam consists of 30 min group lessons Tues - Fri. I was hesitant about their central customer service call center for fielding enrollment questions, however, I found the reps to be knowledgeable in placing my kid in the right class, and the onsite staff has been super helpful as well. read more

I would not recommend this Swim School. The customer service over the phone is great but the app and the instructors are not reliable. I tried to take my son to his first lesson on a Sunday morning and the instructor was a no show. No one was notified and all the parents had to walk away. I called to address the issue and was told we would be able to reschedule in the app or online, and a day has gone by and I'm still unable to do so. The turn around time to respond to emails is quite delayed as well. I was expecting way more from this Swim School since we are paying $200 a month for 30 minute group classes. Update: This updated review is based on the over the phone customer service and for swim instructor Jade. We were here for almost a year for toddler swim classes. We really liked teacher Jade, who my son was very comfortable with. However there were numerous other drawbacks to this location and program overall that made us feel that we received poor value from the classes. The Mountain View location shares the pool inside a City Sports Gym (they have one pool lane that multiple SafeSplash classes use while the other lanes are used by the regular gym members). There are large signs posted around the pool emphasizing that SafeSplash students are not allowed to use the pool bathrooms/changing rooms. Instead there are two showers in an alcove right next to the pool that students can use to rinse off, and then 3 tents that are set up next to the pool that students can change in. At the end of class there can often be a mad dash with multiple students converging on the showers and changing tents. And as other reviewers have mentioned, classes are not infrequently canceled, sometimes without a lot of advance notice. It is difficult to schedule makeup classes, especially if your child likes to work with a particular teacher. Same issue when there is a substitute teacher without advance notice. Overall between cancelations on their side, classes missed due to vacation/illness and my son not wanting to swim with the substitute teacher, I think we attended roughly half of the classes we paid for. read more

my toddlers have been taking swim lessons for the past few months. The swim instructors are great, but we are no longer planning on swimming with them because of all the scheduling issues. The pool has closed a couple of times last minute, and so their class got cancelled. We had to miss class and it is nearly impossible to schedule two kids at the same time. The online portal doesnt work well, continues to freeze up, and the worst thing is that they only open minimal spots for makeups and on a two week rolling basis so you have to call back and check every day to reschedule the classes. Ive spent hours on the phone and online trying to reschedule a makeup class. There are literally no classes available! For a busy family of 2 working parents, and I also being an essential Health Care worker on the frontlines dealing with COVID patients regularly, it has been an absolute nightmare trying to reach someone and reschedule makeups. It is the reason we are leaving the swim school. 1. They need to allow flexibility for illness to reschedule, not just limit to one makeup a month with COVID being the main reason we are all concerned in keeping the kids and instructors healthy. 2. The online portal needs a major rehaul - it freezes and doesnt work and scheduled makeup classes dont even showup. 3. we should be able to have more options to schedule makeups. Makeup classes are so limited and they expire within 3 weeks of being given. So essentially you just lose money. I have never been so frustrated and I dont typically write negative reviews. But unless you are okay with poor customer service options, poor online website, limited makeups, wasting your time trying to schedule makeups, and your kids never get sick or miss a class, then I would not sign up for this swim class. read more

I have a love/hate relationship with this place. I hate: - The makeup / billing system. Every review is right, you have to fight for every makeup (including when someone vomits in the pool and they evacuate everyone). This means calling in, and then waiting for them to call the manager, and then waiting again. And when you do get the makeup token, it's like 10 days later and you only have 2 weeks from the date of the missed class to schedule your next class (so you have 4 days left in this example). - Availability is so limited for classes. Get a slot and that's it. Semi private or group doesn't matter, levels don't seem to matter, I've never seen anyone who can actually swim freestyle taking lessons. - The changing situation is a mess because you can't use the gym locker rooms, not even to pee. Kids aren't allowed. So you change in a tent on the side of the pool. - This isn't really their fault, but like every 4th class, there's some kid who's terrified of the water and takes up a huge amount of the instructor's time. So you're paying for 10 minutes or less of class. Then you never see that kid again so it's not like he/she gets better. I love, or my child loves: - Teacher 1. He loved her. He's never liked any class or teacher before. She didn't actually teach, she was fun. I'm sorry I was paying for him to swim. So I tried out a few more teachers, all of whom actually teach, and switched him. - Teacher 2. He loves him too. He refuses to switch schools because he loves the teachers. - It's an indoor pool so it is warm. He's been swimming for a few months, he's not really getting better. I don't really blame the school for that part. PS: If your child is actually terrified of water or has sensory issues, I do think the teachers are very good in the private lessons in dealing with those fears. read more

We had a trial class with Marlon asthe instructor. He was very experienced and good with our 2 and a half year old grand daughter. Our granddaughter was a bit overwhelmed by the new environment and new teacher, she started to cry. Marlon got her to be comfortable and started to paddle to water with him. Marlon also made a big effort to enroll our granddaughter in the right class, teacher Jade has experiences with toddler and at the time we need. We are so appreciative of Marlon's professionalism and willing to take the time to help us out. I could not say enough positive things about SafeSplash and especially Marlon. Canceled class on day of without much notice and did not inform the facility. Very unprofessional. Do not recommend.

Brought my kiddos for a trial lesson arranged by Marlon. The first time there, an instructor was getting out of the pool and told us lessons were canceled because someone had vomited in the water. Marlon set us up for the following week, but when we arrived there was not a soul from Safesplash or any other children. He had confirmed the date with us via email. When we wrote him, he didn't respond this time. It's been two days without an apology or explanation. =( read more

Your experience totally depends on the instructor your child gets. Some are good and some are OK. Last weeks 7pm class started 5 minutes late. The class has 4 kids, lasts for 30 minutes - of this, the instructor spent about 8 minutes talking and and there was absolutely no correction when the kids were moving their arms incorrectly. It's about $20 a class, so every minute counts. 1 swim lane is divided into 3 sections and the advance students get the longest section, so the beginner kids get the shorter swim length and the least amount of time/attention. The other issue is that not all kids stay on the platform and above water all the time. So unless there is some one constantly reminding them to stay in one spot, it's hard for the instructor to monitor all the kids at the same time to make sure they are staying safe. Marlon is an exceptional teacher. You will be lucky to learn with him. Jade was pretty amazing too. Support staff were nice too. Our daughter went from having a fear of water to be confidently start learning. The only issue was cancellations for a few weeks. Also sometimes gets a bit crowded. We joined SafeSplash before the pandemic and then after. My daughter learned to swim with some really good instructors. I wish I could rate the school higher, unfortunately, our experience with make-up classed due to cancellations has been poor. My daughter signed for the "WAVE" class on Sundays. These are often cancelled and there is no possibility of make-up classes. I have called the and tried to reschedule, but no one has bothered to call us back. They issue credits..but for what? There are no make-up classes possible for the Wave and no refunds are issued. We are out! read more

My son has been taking lessons with SafeSplash for over 2 years and I cannot say enough about the great instructors. Coach Don, Liam, Matthew and Benjamin are so good with the toddlers and elementary school kids. They are patient, thoughtful and always encouraging. They also keep the kids in line as well. These guys make swimming and learning fun and my son looks forward to class every week. Benjamin has been outstanding trying to manage the customer service aspect and ensuring that the classes are running smoothly which is a very hard job in itself. Also, this is an indoor pool which means my son can take lessons year round and not worry about the weather. The only downside is that this program is within CitySports which lacks good operations and maintenance of the facility in general and I think a lot of parents get frustrated by that. For example, there are no clear pool rules posted like at the YMCA and there isn't a swimsuit water extractor machine on site either. read more

We have been so happy with SafeSplash. Coach David and Coach MIchael have been absolutely fantastic. To Rewind...When our daughter was a toddler, we went on vacation in Hawaii to enjoy the beach, sun and sand. We were convinced our daughter would love being in the water. Instead, she firmly planted herself in the sand, refusing to even dip a toe in the water. We knew right then and there it would be best to have our daughter start swimming lessons to help her get over her fear of the water. With the start of swimming lessons, there were definitely a few tears, but the SafeSplash instructors have been patient and understanding. They truly adopt the philosophy of making swimming fun for kids. Our daughter now loves swimming and is constantly smiling and laughing every time she goes to swim class. It is truly incredible to see how much she's progressed. We love that she has so much fun and that she's also learned a lifelong skill. read more

Mountain View location. HORRIBLE They rent 2 lanes from Club Sport. Not an official swim school. No management. A small check in table on the side of CS. One of the CS member joined the same lane our daughter's class was in. The tiny portable changing tents had lots of hair on the floor. The chlorine was intoxicating, fumes killed my breathing. We have tried many swim camps and classes, and this one is definitely the best value, and a convenient location. The cost is not nearly as high as private lessons at some places, a facility membership is not required, and the instructors are much better than the college kids doing summer jobs at the local Y. Classes are limited to 4 per teacher. My boys like going, and the indoor pool is year-round. (Occasionally the City Sports staff may approach you to offer gym memberships, but they are not pushy. ) Restroom, shower, and changing facilities are very limited (cabanas and two small open rinse showers) so we change at home first then wrap the kids in towels after to shower at home. Pro tip: its stifling hot and humid in the pool room for the comfort of the swimmers, so grab a chair and watch through the windows if it bothers you or a young sibling. There is no cell signal inside, but the free wifi is mostly adequate. read more

If you are okay with below average teachers, most of who are not real swimmers, then go here. Go to DACA, Mt. View Parks and rec summer swim or La Petit instead. It doesn't feel safe as they use a gym's swimming pool and thus have a temporary unstable plastic "holding pen" which is constantly shaking. One teacher thinks it is funny and shakes it intentionally. The teachers can't keep their eyes on all the students by virtue of the setup of their cordoned off pool area. read more

My main issue with SafeSplash is that they say they allow rescheduling. However, if you actually want to reschedule a class, it's a very painful process. Rescheduling typically requires a couple of phone calls. Managers have 48 hours to respond and approve. If managers don't respond, you can call in to request an escalation. This can be a lot of overhead - especially painful since the initial reason we had to reschedule was due to pool closure (broken part). You can't resolve this in person, because they don't have an office/desk at this location. It's more like they rent part of the pool from the gym, so they can run swim lessons. I used to recommend SafeSplash to friends. However, given the current process, I have started advising friends not to sign up if they are interested in making use of make-up classes. One of my friends also says she has been unable to stop the monthly auto-payments (even when they are on vacation). She also says the make-up classes she's been able to get are usually around 2 or 3pm Sundays, which is inconvenient for them. Aside from these concerns, no other issues with SafeSplash. read more

We came to try swim classes for my two kids and learned that this is a very "no customer service" type environment. No one told us where to go or which class we might be in. We waited and waited, and it was not until 4 minutes after our scheduled lesson time that we learned that the lady who had been starting at her phone most of the time actually worked there. The instructor seemed to do OK with some kids but, for some reason, kept raising his eyebrows at my son when he couldn't do the skill he was asking and would loudly proclaim, "wow, we have a lot of work to do!". Well -- that was the level that we were told to try, and it certainly isn't my 8-year-old's fault. I got the sense that he was probably a jerk and we might go try classes elsewhere. read more

Coach Benjamin is AMAZING! My daughter started at 4 and a half and within 6 months she started swimming. She can now swim a short distance and swim towards the edge of the pool then get herself up all by herself! We are grateful that coach Benjamin and SafeSplash put emphasis on safety because my daughter loves swimming pools! He knows a great balance between pushing her to do things and making her have fun so as a kid, it doesn't feel like it's all practice. He is good at finding a way to motivate her in creative way too! We are so impressed with him and we are so lucky to have him as the coach. Prior to him, we tried a several teachers outside of SafeSplash and finally landed to him. He is the BEST! I enrolled my twins (4 year old) in semi-private class at Safesplash Mountain View since this May and we all love Ms. Benjamin. He is very patient, pays attention to details, great skill with kids. After 4 month, my kids started to swim themselves, I was thrilled to see the first moment when they float independently. I also had two makeup classes, everything went smoothly, no any issues yet. The only complain I may have is the water is not as warm as advertised. I usually see my kids shivering when they come out of water. But in general, I am happy with their progresses. read more

I signed up my 6 year old niece from Hong Kong for summer swim camp, she loved her lesson by Mr Ed and Mr Michael. They were both really wonderful with kids and made it super fun . She was really scared of water at first but by the end of 2 weeks, she now ask to learn have more swim lesson when she returns Hong Kong. We will be back for sure for next summer! read more

Amazing! My 3 year old daughter has been going to Safe Splash for 3 months now and we love it. She had a fear of getting her face wet at the beginning and now she can swim 10 feet by herself. The instructors have done a wonderful job tailoring each lesson to her individual skill level and we could see improvements EVERY class (this was during group lessons!) My daughter now asks to go to swim class every day. I love that my daughter feels more confident and accomplished as she progressing in swim class. We take videos of her each week and she is literally able to see herself improving and how hard work/ practice pay off. The instructors (we have experience with 3) are patient, and kind hearted- perfected for beginners. Yet they are also extremely knowledgeable about establishing good fundamentals and techniques. My 2 kids are in semi-private lessons. I can see my kids progressing a lot quicker in the private lessons compared to group. Kids need to wait for other kids to take their turn and with only 30 minutes, in my opinion private or semi-private is the way to go. The price is in line with other swim schools, some say it's expensive but the kids are learning a life saving skill. Lots of parking but can be fuller at busier times. If you give less than 24 hours notice to cancel a class, you can email Michael directly-not the swim school and they will ensure a make up is provided. His card is at the little swim table at the front. They're located inside a gym for adults. The kids get one of three lanes to use for their swim class. There isn't a family bathroom/changing area off the pool area. They have tents for the kids to change in but they are not ideal- very hot and small. I know this is the gyms rules so the swim school doesn't have much control over it. They did get more tents out, which was nice at least. The pool isn't heated and my kids are always cold. My kids are learning how to swim and they do accommodate different level swimming in one time slot. My 7 year old is more advanced than my 5 year old and I don't have to put them in separate levelled classes. I really do like this and I am happy with their progress. My daughter can be a lot to handle at times and they do well with her. The teachers are nice but it's hard to get comfortable with them because they change often. We don't even know the instructors names, just a new person appears for a class without warning of instructor change. My kids are easily adaptable but I can see where it may be an issue with other children who need that consistency. read more

Effective lessons, passionate instructors, flexible scheduling! We have had our two children enrolled in Safe Splash at the City Sports gym in Mountain View for the past 11 months. We've all had a very positive experience with the quality of instruction and opportunities to practice. As parents, we also appreciate the flexibility to reschedule lessons as needed. My daughter has been taking lessons at SafeSplash for the past 4 months and we've been generally very happy. In the beginning she was going twice a week with 2 different instructors which I would not recommend as they each taught slightly differently which confused her but once we switched to be just a single teacher (Mr. David), she has really progressed. Prior to Safe Splash she had been going to several other swim schools off and on for 2 years and could not figure out side breathing but was able to finally conquer the challenge here. She has since been promoted 2 times and is working on more advanced strokes to get ready to join a swim team someday. She has met most of the instructors though make up classes or as an occasional substitute and while they are all good, each has a different personality/style so your child may respond differently to different instructors. I do encourage trying out different instructors if you have the opportunity so you can zone in on who is the best match for your child's personality. Mr David is disciplined yet very silly/fun with the class. My 8 year old daughter can't wait to go to class and is always disappointed when it's over. read more

I took my daughter for a trial lesson at the Mountain View location. She nearly drowned tonight because no one was watching her. She is 3 yrs old and does not know how to swim. She was supposed to be sitting at the steps and waiting while the teacher was with another student. This was like a semiprivate trial lesson in level one for Kids who can't swim yet. She stepped off the steps inside the pool and no one saw her. They even had a lifeguard there and he did not even notice. She was nearly drowning and I happened to look over while talking to the main person at SafeSplash about schedules and noticed it. I yelled and then the main person yelled at the instructor who quickly swam over and grabbed her. Kids who drown do not appear the be drowning. They don't scream or yell or flap there arms. It can happen at any moment. I couldn't believe they did not keep an eye on her especially in a level one class! At Waterworks, they have these little ones on the instructors back while teaching the other students. They make sure that they have their students in close proximity. I was so looking forward to finding a swim school close by because waterworks is too far. Safe splash really needs to find a system where they can keep the little ones who can't swim SAFE and have a proper lifeguard! I will never go to a place where instructors and lifeguards are distracted and almost had my little one drown had I not been right there. Even worse, neither the lifeguard nor the teacher even apologized. Only the main person apologized and said he will talk to the lifeguard. Just wanted to let the parents know to always be there and be watching your little ones during the entire swim lesson. It can happen in such a short time and you should not rely on the instructors nor the lifeguards to be watching them. Very disappointing that this place did not live up to its name SAFE splash. read more

Our son's teacher Mr. Don is amazing. He has worked with him so that within a couple months he went from being deathly afraid of water, to being excited to go swimming. We have enrolled our children from an early age at SafeSplash swim school. This has been an amazing positive experience. The children love their swim lessons! The instructors and staff make the introduction to swimming a smooth transition. Even for the youngest one, they understand the need to take baby steps. The best part was the individual attention, the delicate care for each child's progress and constant communication with parents.
