She meets you exactly where you are, never rushes the process, and somehow knows exactly how to help you push past fear without feeling overwhelmed. My review is from the perspective of a beginner. As a beginner, I took an adult private lesson, back in May.. I chose any available teacher and got mapped to Allenia. I didn't know back then that I was just having a poor instructor for a beginner. Later on, when I took classes elsewhere, I realized that my instructor at Swim Pro took things for granted !! Even a simple YouTube video has so much information. Even after letting her know that I never got into water, I was not made aware of some basic things before even getting into water like stretching/breathing exercises *outside* the water that'll help, wearing the right kind of dress, protection gear (like cap, goggles) and how to wear them right. It was the first time I ever put my head completely under water and I wasn't given enough practice and time before moving on to the next steps.. and it goes on. The thing I heard the most from her was "Do you have any questions" - how can I ask questions while I didn't know anything about it ? On top of it she was so crisp, hesitant to even quickly give a hand when I lost balance during the first 30 mins that I had ever spent in a pool. We have been taking swim lessons at the Campbell location for a few months for our 6 year old. In terms of pool - its fully outdoors, making it safer in terms of respiratory virus spread, its clean and nice, and they have only 2 instructors/2 students at the max at a given time so there is enough space for the lesson. We have tried almost all coaches at the Campbell location, and coach Aidan is truly a gem. He is 200% involved in the session with the child giving his full attention. His teaching style is very effective, considering my child never had any regular sessions before this due to the pandemic, he has learnt tremendously in few sessions from coach Aidan. He swims along with the child and works very hard with them in the pool, and that engagement and commitment stands out and is unique. We drive 30 mins to the session, only because of coach Aidan who makes it worth it. read more

My son started lessons fall of 2019 with minimal swim experience prior and by the end of the year he was a confident and strong enough swimmer to get in the deep end and swim to the shallow end. He learned to tread water, float, different swim strokes, and breathing technique. We have been thrilled with the coaching and progress. The pool is heated and comfortable, as is the waiting area. My kids are beginners and new to Swim Pro. They immediately felt comfortable with Ms. Ari on Day 1. The 2nd class with Ari went just as well. I never would have thought they could learn so much in 2 days! My 5 year old used to refuse to enter the pool prior to Ms. Ari's class. Unfortunately we're not able to match our times with her so will be taking lessons with other teachers from time to time. My one recommendation for this swimming school is it would be helpful to have instructors take some notes on each child's skill level/progress so they can track the child's progression and easier transition to other swim teachers if there's a new teacher. read more

Kelly is just AMAZING! I had been searching around for an instructor for a while, and constantly getting messed around with incorrect schedules, pricing, venues, etc. Some just didn't even bother calling or emailing back! And I needed to get my swimming checked as I had a trip coming up to the French Polynesian Islands ... and it would've been just a sin to not swim in that crystal clear 86 degree water! So I yelped a few places and found The Swim Pro. Kelly has been a simply awesome instructor from the beginning. She put me on her schedule immediately and gave me a lot (if not the most) attention due to my time frame - I guess it helped that I was flexible too. But she made me her number one priority and insisted that I would know everything I needed to before my trip (I highly doubted her at the time haha). But we kept at it and within a few weeks I was comfortable in the water, swimming around carefree (with my Zoomers - I love those things). She even took the time to get me accustomed with my snorkeling gear - and getting into and out of 'boats' and maneuvering around! I was so comfortable that when I was in Tahiti and Bora Bora, I stopped at NOTHING to get into the ocean and lagoon! From my solo snorkeling expeditions around the coral gardens to my first scuba dive, to my attempt at paddle boarding to even jumping into 100 foot deep blue ocean water and swimming with around 25 black-tipped reef sharks!! I was truly in paradise. I felt so at home in the water and loved every moment of it! There are many instructors out there, that with time, can teach you how to swim. But there are only a few that can make you WANT to swim. I take my hat off to Kelly. She is an amazing person, instructor, and from our few entertaining conversations - a super mom too. I have had more than a handful of classes with Heather and she is the reason I keep going back to the class. She is amazing and patient; she knows how to help me mitigate the fear of water (Yes I was super scary at first); she observes my performance to switch in-between activities so that i wouldn't get tired/bored in an one-hour class; she encourages me taking challenges and helps me out whenever needed. I started from a very stiff, couldn't move and would sink like a rock, all the way to become comfortable with water and can do freestyle and black-side floating at pools. The price rate can be a bit out of reach but I find it 100% worthy. To make good use of the $$, I would recommend the campbell pool and ask for time slots when no other is sharing the pool with you. read more

First of all, the actual swim lesson is fantastic. We had Nate as an instructor and he was gentle and encouraging for my 6 and 7 year olds. My complaint is billing and scheduling practices. My son got sick and because the cancellation wasn't 24 hours in advance, they keep the $70 and we forfeit it. Of course, we had no way of knowing yesterday that my kid would be throwing up every 20 minutes today. This practice encourages parents to bring in sick kids so they don't lose $70 for a lesson. Shame on you for exploiting sick kids. read more

My kids took their best swim lessons here! For several years before we found The Swim Pro we were putting our kids in the typical group lessons at various places - YMCA, community center, etc. - and during this time I realized that in their half-hour lessons (consisting of 5 or 6 other kids), my kids were receiving only an average of 5 to 6 minutes of individualized instruction...no wonder it was taking such a long time for my kids to progress! Then a friend recommended The Swim Pro to me. While lessons here may be more expensive, they worked so fast because my kids received 1-on-1 instruction (or 1-on-2 in semi-private lessons) and therefore had much more time 1-on-1 with the instructor. They did not need to go back for more lessons after a few sessions. The teachers are experienced and patient, the owner very accommodating, and the pool is kept so nice and warm (89-90, I think they told me). This all made the lessons very enjoyable for my kids. My kids now feel confident at swimming, and I needed something pretty quick at the time so that they would be safe swimmers for our lake vacation - which they were. I developed a fear of deep water due to a childhood trauma, and I was always the lame person who misses out on cool water based activities because I'm a chicken. My friend recommended this place as she was taking her grade school daughter here for swim lessons with an instructor called Daniele. The online scheduling was very easy to use but can be frustrating because you can't get the hours you may want, especially week day hours for working people like me(the only con if you ask me)I had to camp the site daily for a while to hope for cancellations that free up hours that work for me. There is also a 24 hour cancellation policy if you don't want to lose $. I think that's fair for a business to require that, how else can they stay afloat (no pun intended). As for the swim instructors, I have nothing but praises for all of them. They were so professional and had so many techniques that helped a nervous person like me overcome my fear of drowning after 3 lessons! How cool is that? Every instructor had a different style but were incredibly good in their individual ways. Not only did I overcome my fear of deep water, they also helped me tweak my breathing, water treading and stroke techniques for breast stroke, free style and even threw in butterfly stroke for good measure. Thank you so much for helping this lame girl swim without a noodle! If I were to try to advance more, I won't hesitate coming back here. You really get your money's worth of training, with the results I got. I have to call out all the wonderful people who helped me with my journey to confidence: Mary, Sven, Danielle, Brianna and Esma. When I was seven years old, I almost drowned in a pool. When I was 15 years old, I tried to conquer my fears and take swimming lessons. It did not work. Now, 20 years later, after seeing Angela teaching my son how to swim in just three classes I decided to give it a try with her. Angela is an amazing natural teacher. Besides being able to explain the "hows to" in an excellent way (you wonder "how come I've never taught about telling my child that?") she is incredibly sweet and compassionate with her students of all ages. She is also super calm, patient, and relaxed. So you feel very safe going in the pool with her (especially when you were afraid). On my first day inside the pool, Angela taught me how to breath. It seems silly, but I had never imagined how this could make a difference in my process to conquer my fears. She taught me how to sit on the bottom of the pool (shallow side) and how to float (front, back, and turtle). I was doing so well that I even kicked. I have been to six classes, and I'm already swimming free style. Now she's teaching me to tread water in the deep part of the pool. It's a little scary, as Diver Dan's pool is super deep, but she's always so supportive that I feel confident I can do it. Angela has a unique way to explain swimming techniques for children. I've seen my son following directions and correcting his mistakes, without whining, based on her explanations. It's unbelievable how he progressed after just three classes with her. And imagine how excited the children (and I) get when you know that she is a marine biologist that trains seals as a volunteer work! read more

It is not easy learning how to swim when you're 25. I never had a fear of water or a terrible experience at a young age, I just never really learned. I did a lot of research on swim schools around the bay area and it seemed obvious that the Swim Pro was the best option. It definitely was! Laura was a great teacher. She was really patient and had a way of making me feel comfortable. I never felt pressured and was actually encouraged to do things/learn at my own pace. My first lesson just focused around getting in the water and feeling comfortable with being under water. I learned how to breathe correctly (I had never learned this and it's most likely the reason why I always thought I just couldn't swim). I purchased 6 lessons (I will admit that it's pricey, but still worth it since it's private lessons) and was fully swimming free-style by the 4th lesson! I'm still not the best swimmer (I haven't practiced too much), but it's great going to a pool and not having to sit in the shallow end. I recently went to Hawaii and did a snorkeling tour. It was hands down, one of the best experiences of my life! I hear they have a new location now that looks great. I took my lessons at Diver Dan's and wasn't a fan of the facilities. It's also pretty awkward to learn how to swim, when there's a group of people learning how to dive in the other end of the pool. read more

Selfish, I know!!! Anyway, Angela Padilla is an AMAZING swim coach. I have to say that i never had a fear of the water but I had a fear of drowning, lol. There is a difference!! Also, I've taken swimming lessons in the past, both as a child and as an adult with no success. From the very first lesson she had me floating and practically swimming. After 9 lessons I am actually swimming. I even went to Hawaii and snorkeled with confidence in the ocean, it was great!!! Kelly is AWESOME. I had been putting off swim lessons for about 20 years or so....talk about procrastinating, eh? And I bought a living social deal that fortuitously directed me her way. I have some issues with water....and didn't like being under it, floating in it, or being out of control. Kelly taught me how to be in control in the water and that helped immensely. She was able to explain everything in such a manner that made every technique she showed me easy to do and took the fear from trying the maneuver away. I am now comfortable in the water and have partially accomplished a lifelong goal....all thanks to Kelly! I can't wait for more lessons! Nate is great! After other previous attempts, after a set of lessons with him and one with Kelly this summer, I'm an adult who has finally learned to swim. My lessons were a lot of fun. I found the Swim Pro through Yelp, decided to give them a try, and was really pleased! As an adult non-swimmer who struggled through group swim classes as a child and in college, I thought it was time to go with private lessons. I was a difficult student due to my propensity to sink, but Lindsay and Kelly were always able to help me figure out how to deal with my various issues. They were always friendly and patient, so I felt very comfortable the whole time. And, yes, I now know how to swim! It's pretty easy to schedule a lesson with them, and I'd recommend going with another person for a 1 hour lesson at at time. read more

Sven connected with my then 2yo son really well and motivated my son that he is excited for his toddler pre-swim classes. My son has improved so much after only 5 classes (even tho the 1st 3 classes were a month apart). He has been swimming without the noodle and will have his swim vest taken out for the next class. Scheduling is also very easy -- you can schedule or reschedule online. You just have to remember the 24hr rule, which is fair. The only thing I wish they could do to improve is to look for another indoor facility. The Santa Clara pool is a bit run down and drafty so it's not a good bet for classes during the cold winter months. read more

This review is for Nate, the swim instructor for my boys. My boys have been learning from Nate after Kevin left. Nate is awesome! He is really friendly and always takes time to talk to the kids and makes them feel comfortable in the water. I also find him highly experienced and innovative when it comes to teaching young kids. There was a time when my 7 years old was struggling with his freestyle. He was not able to move his arms far enough when he swam, which is very common for young kids who have less body awareness than grown-ups. After a few attempts, Nate came out with an idea of using a swim noodle! He kept moving the noodle forward and asked my son to reach for the noodle as he swam. With this brilliant method, finally my son understood where his arms should go! Nate is also good with very young kids. After a few months with Nate, now my 3 years old can swim a short distance all by himself! It's simply amazing to watch him doing this. I have to give all the credits to Nate. Good job, Nate! The Swim Pro really has the best team in the bay area! I would recommend it to anyone who is serious about learning to swim. read more

I highly recommend The Swim Pro if you want your kids to learn to swim/be water safe quickly. With 3 private lessons a week, Kevin took my daughter from extremely afraid of water (crying about putting her face in) to water safe in a month. Two months in (with 2 vacation breaks) she has learned freestyle. The swim pro takes the time to teach kids how to master each element of swimming before moving on. Kids that learn from Kevin don't look like they are struggling or dog paddling in the water. My daughter now loves swimming and is excited to join a swim team. :) Kelly, the owner, is very friendly. I was hesitant about starting lessons as an adult because I have never been comfortable in water, but I got over my initial fears quickly with their step by step approach that goes at a pace you're comfortable with.
