Pretty store with lots of stock. As with most grocery stories, there's a slew of self-checkout stations. I don't love that option but it was better than the long line forming for the friendly, good-natured clerk. The parking lot is good and easy to navigate. If you're able to use the app, Safeway can be an ok place to shop. Prices are sky-high compared to Krogers Fred Meyer in Warrenton, UNLESS you're shopping the ads and app deals. This store is pretty clean. I had a full cart the other day; the ONLY lane open was the '15 items or less'. Now, if you're only going to have ONE lane open, it needs to be general purpose. So I was forced into self check, and it was NOT good. Their app, unfortunately, is buggy, and you'll occasionally find that 'deals' you've clipped dont work (minus one star) read more

I asked Patricia for mozzarella on my sandwich and there was only a little bit left, but instead of going to go get more mozzarella, she just gave me the three pieces and said you're just gonna get a little taste of it. And I also think you need someone working that could actually hear what people are saying when they make orders for sandwiches or food in general Updated review! I didn't get the lady's name today but she is working in the deli section 01/24/2025, I just think you need to get new people working in there. They weren't willing to look for ingredient's that the costumer is wanting and are just deciding that they don't have it to make it when I know you can pull stuff from the deli section to meet the customers requests. At first glance, the weedy and unkept landscaping should be a forewarning of what lurks inside. But inside the door, I walk anyway. Being a card carrying, thoughtful Oregonian. I proceed to the bottle return area. A floor sticky with spilled soft drinks await. Only to be outdone by the fact that both bottle return machines are broken. Par for the course for this particular Safeway. I pick up a few items, only to find the local brew priced at $11.99 a six pack. Rip off alert!. A lackluster assortment in the produce department. I always check my receipts as the sale prices are not always reflected on the receipt. I head to the check out line and see a giant sign proclaiming that if there are three people ahead of me that they will open a new line. There were five carts ahead of me....and no new checker was called. And then to the parking lot which has not been resurfaced since what 1970? Taking a cart over the rough tarmac ensure that carbonated beverages will be ready to explode, and that your eggs will already be cracked and ready to cook. This place needs some major reinvestment. I went shopping at safeway late afternoon. I was looking for Chinese broccoli and bok choy. I found the bok choy. I could not find broccoli. I went to the front of the checkers to ask for help. Beth asked if I needed help. She went with me to produce to help me find chinese broccoli.. could not find. Beth asked told me she would try another place to see if they had it. She made the call and the other store did not have it. I thanked Beth big time for making my Safeway experience exceptional. Great customer service. We have been long time Safeway customers, online, just for you,etc. This Christmas SEASON we were sick and could not shop but the sale price on the prime rib was good through the 26th. I struggled out to get one at the advertisement price of $5.79/ pound. To my surprise they had none in the case. I asked the butcher who was working out front he said they were out. Ok where is my voucher for when they got back in stock? Not offered too bad we sold out. My friend was there Christmas Eve and he said they had several, they were closed Christmas, I was there Thursday morning and they were out! BS! Low and behold the manager, a somewhat crusty looking fellow was there with two other corporate looking fellows. He claims we sold out 4 days ago! If that were the case the ones on Christmas Eve were imaginary! Don't lie try for customer service. HELLO Fred Meyer and Wal-Mart goodbye Safeway! This is a pretty run-of-the-mill grocery store chain. There's really not much that can be said about it. A bit pricy, but that can be explained by the lack of competition in the area. The made-to-order subs actually aren't that bad, though. I was surprised by that. The seating, however, is awkwardly placed right next to the public bathrooms. So, if somebody tears it up in there, you're left to eat the rest of your sub in the wafting mist of their beefy stench. If you're buying something and have the chance, go through Ben's aisle and give that little biscuit a whirl. He's a wicked good kid. read more

It was like a scene from the zombies.. everyone in the parking lot was very old, frail, long grey hair, thin, gaunt, walking slowly into the store , around the lot.. I am amazed that I went in. Nice new Safeway in Astoria. Ordered a bunch of party platters here for my family reunion. I ordered a fuit platter, veggie platter, and meat and cheese platter, which in total set me back about $130.00 They went over great! Not only did they add to a wonderful meal but had plenty of leftovers for the week. It's a large newer store and great to shop at if you are in the area. read more

I consistently fail to be impressed by this Safeway. My neighbors love it and swear it's the best grocery store in the area, but I have yet to find the appeal. I think part of the problem is I usually shop there in the evening. There is usually a problem with fruit flies in the produce area. Their selection (of anything) is nothing special. Their prices are on the high side. When I swing by here at night (after 9pm) they always seem understaffed. If you are passing through the area and looking for a place to pick up groceries, I recommend continuing to Warrenton, there are more choices there. read more

Nothing could be more disgusting than the man working in the bakery putting the hard rolls and bagels in the bins without plastic gloves. He was rubbing his nose and then handling the bake goods. I would never purchase anything from the bakery after witnessing this. read more

We recently stayed a week in Astoria in a vacation rental so we needed to stock up on groceries for the week. Our first stop was Safeway to get the next days essentials. We were welcomed to your town and given a Safeway card (as we are Canadian). We went into Safeway four more times during our weeklong stay and each time we were treated with nothing but a friendly and helpful manner. While we were overwhelmed at the choices (particularly the wine aisles since we do not have liquor in our grocery stores) each person we encountered was wonderfully helpful and patient. What a treat to have great gas prices and our gas pumped for us as well! Looking forward to our return in a few years. Thank you for such great service! read more

I've had the misfortune of shopping here many times and seem to have a negative experience every single time. Most of the employees are consistently rude and on two different occasions inexplicably argumentative. It is absolutely mind boggling to me that a business could allow such offensive behavior and consistently poor customer service. The customer service is good but this Safeway has really gone downhill. The bakery department has been out of plastic bags for the doughnuts for awhile. There are fruit flies covering the fruit in produce and regular flies swarming the eatery. The staff needs to remedy these situations. read more

I don't understand why anyone shops here. The produce is not fresh and the fruit flies are plentiful. The entire wall of bagged salads was expired. The milk is usually within a day of expiration. I have been going here for years, never any problem and I got to know some of the checkers and we were friendly. But now they have some really bad attitude people on their night shift. I was in the express line and this one checker (Amy it says on the receipt) calls me over to the self check out line "I can help you here SIR" and I said I was writing a check and wanted to go through the regulars line. She got really short with me and said I had to go to the self checkout line. So I go there and she starts scanning stuff in my cart, I had to hold the items up so I could scan them, I wasn't going fast enough and she was like come on come on. I had one not showing the barcode and she got all irritated with me then sees I have vegatables and the level of her irritation reached a new level and she goes "I didnt know you had vehetables!" Yeah I was wanting to go in the other line. Then she gets all huffy and had to give those to this other guy who took them down to another register to get the price. All the while time she's treating me like I'm some kind of huge burden to her. I told her I thought she had a very bad attitude and she said nothing. I have NEVER been treated so shabbily at a place if business! I was in there at night a couple of weeks ago and no registers were open and I saw a guy at one so I went to him and he got really short with me "I'm cleaning up, use the self check out!" So I do that and I needed to write a check and they got all irritated with me! "You shouldn't have used this checkout" Then when I was done the two guys helping me saw there were customers coming in the door and started complaining to each other about that right in front of me! " I hate when these people come in here this time of night" It was at least an hour to go until closing. I am NEVER AGAIN going to this place at night, you need to do something about these people Safeway. I am going back there today to talk with the store manager. That checker Amy should not be dealing with the public. I have NEVER been treated so badly. read more

This store is OK. Only reason we go here is when were staying in a hotel and it's convenient to pick up solme snacks for the day. Mostly if not all the time there's homeless people hanging outside the store. Prices here are much different then haggens. When we were in line some old man got pissed off for no reason because he asked for a paper plastic bag for his specific items while the woman was helping us, and she told him "Yeah sure I'll be with you after I'm done helping these people" and then he raised his voice 10000 notches and said "WELL I WAS JUST AKSING, I ASKED POLITELY". I mean c'mon people oughtta chill out nowadays and just go to the grocery store for GROCERIES... Not a high-school drama play. read more

This store has been the poster boy of incompetence on I don't know how many occasions. The employees repeatedly have complained that they haven't received proper training, but then refuse to even try. And it was like $9 for a thing of orange juice. No joke. They also aren't capable of redeeming gift cards half the time, and take 30+ mins when they do, so I wouldn't go there without a backup payment method. Avoid this place at all costs. Other stores nearby are cheaper anyway! Safeway has nice flowers, that's about it. read more

Changing my 5 star review to 2 stars. The customer service at this location as gone way down hill. Our cashier insisted on spending 15 minutes explaining the store app to one customer while six other customers were waiting. Things were even worse at the self check out. Half the stations were on hold waiting for the non-existent attendant. read more

This is for the pharmacy. Never once has a prescription been on time. They give you a time, you go at that time, then they look at you like you're crazy for thinking it would be ready at the given time. I've been back there twice today, both at the times they told me it would be ready, and somehow still it will be another 3 hours. To boot, the staff is always rude. Save your time & sanity and get your prescriptions elsewhere. read more
