This place was exactly what I was looking for -- fresh seafood. Even with a little cool overcast, we still chose to eat it at the picnic tables right on the dock. It is quite literally a hole in the wall. The clam chowder has a delicious, well-seasoned base; and it's full of clams and potatoes. I appreciated the fact that the chowder was not too pasty -- just nicely creamy. My wife opted for a full bowl of the Ron's Phone Chowder, which adds a pile of shrimp and crab, and she thoroughly enjoyed it. I shared an order of salmon fish & chips with my wife, and the freshness of the fish made the meal (although the coating could have been a little crispier). They included plenty of perfectly cook fries, as well as cole-slaw and garlic bread. With the abundance of fresh seafood available on the coast, it's amazing how hard it is to find places like this serving the good stuff. Definitely worth many return visits.

Time seems to stand still here. The fish rotates but the quality of the product is as stable as it comes. This food is timeless. It's just flat out done right. This is our stop. We skip other restaurants to eat here sometimes twice a day while visiting. It's not fancy food and yet in it's own way it is. You eat with your eyes. We always do the seafood chowder. Why? Because it is the best I've ever had. The steamers come in a pile with not one empty clam. You get what you pay for. Now this lobster/langoustine melt is such a rich treat. Served on crispy baguette. It's a sexy dream. You can get about anything on a stick. It's the best and we love you NW Wild.

A true definition of a local treasure, Northwest Wild Products is a throwback to fish markets from a bygone era. Beautifully smoked salmon on a stick and remarkable perfectly fried razor clams (also served on a stick) will cause you to wonder, "What took me so long to discover this Northwest gem?" The seafood chowder made on site is uncommonly rustic, hearty and flavorful. And prices are oh so reasonable for freshly caught seafood. Service is outstanding and friendly and the outside dining area provides a huge bonus sitting right in front of the west mooring basin: yacht, boat, and marine going vessels galore provide eye candy with a view of the Columbia river, the Astoria bridge and the cannery pier hotel. Love this place!!

This place was the highlight of our trip! It was a little hard to find, but so worth it! We started with the best clam chowder we ever had! Then we ordered the fried razor clams on a stick (crunchy batter, little chewy on the ends, but delicious center), smoked salmon on a stick (wild, but kind of dry), steamers (clams served in their own clam juice in a mini bucket with garlic/butter bread on the side, must-try!), yearlings oysters (we paid a little more for these smaller ones, and it was worth it! So buttery, sweet and fresh, must-try), & crab melt (not our favorite). Overall, excellent service, great deal for the quality and quantity of seafood, fun/casual atmosphere (outdoor decorated bench seating), view of the marina (like 5 ft away was water), friendly dog outdoors there that looked like he belonged to the owner or staff of the restaurant!

After packing up our pop-up trailer and visiting the beach we decided to find lunch in Astoria and were thinking seafood. The waiter at Drina Daisy had mentioned a fish marked with a cafe so our daughter looked it up while we were driving toward Astoria. Northwest Wild Products is a bit hard to find unless you know it is there. We found it and there was even parking where we could fit with our RV trailer in tow. They are on the pier facing the water. There was an inside dining area but we didn't even look at it as there is a row of picnic tables outside and the sun was just burning through the overcast. I had a cup of clam chowder and a dungeness crab melt. My wife had a bowl of the "Ron's phone chowder" which came with shrimp and dungeness crab added. It had a bit too much pepper for my wife's taste but she liked it enough she ate almost all of it. The chowder was a New England style (the only real clam chowder in my opinion) with a smokey taste probably from the bacon. It was one of the best chowders I have had in a restaurant. My crab melt came open faced piled with loads of fresh dungeness crab and it was delicious. My daughter got the steamer clams to share with all of us, a crab cocktail, a shrimp cocktail to share with our grandson and our grandson got octopus on a stick. Everything was delicious - except the octopus. I wondered why he only ate a bite of it. They had it doused with an Asian inspired sauce which really overpowered the octopus. I ate the two remaining pieces on the stick and they were OK, but not as great as it should have been without the sauce. It sounds like some of the items on a stick are good, but you might want to ask before you order them. I almost tried the local Fish and Chips. If I go back there, I will as they are probably the only place on the west coast that does sturgeon and I would love to try it. One of the workers there told me how great it was, but I had already ordered and paid for my order. This is definitely another goto place in Astoria. You just can't beat a fish market that buys from fisherman coming right off their boats. In the long past I ate at a couple of dive restaurants in Eureka, CA that were owned by a seafood company and had the very best seafood. Northwest Wild Products is the only place I have been to since that has matched their quality with fresh seafood.

We only tried Ron's phone chowder and the razor clam on a stick, but we enjoyed both of them. The phone chowder has bay shrimp and crab on top and was nice and chowder-y and smokey with bacon. There was a lot of seafood and the consistency of the chowder was good. Though it was slightly salty for us, this was the best clam chowder we had on the coast. The razor clam on a stick is only $5 and well worth it. The razor clam is chewy and tasty and fried nice and crispy. And, you can sit outside and enjoy a beer with a beautiful view of the bridge.

If the sun is out you are a fool for not stopping in and enjoying the flower-pot surrounded picnic tables, the harbor, bay, and bridge views, and fresh seafood being served. We had some steamed clams and a small crab cocktail - both modest in size but quality and delicious. Recommended.

We stay at the Astoria Riverwalk Inn and stroll next door to this amazing seafood stand. On a sunny day, there is no better place to enjoy a bowl of clam chowder and watch the beehive of activity at the marina. We have purchased oysters, salmon, razor clams and clam chowder here and have found the staff to be super friendly and helpful and the chowder is unbelievably GREAT!

Great Dungeness crab, I mean really exceptional. We live near near SF, we've eaten a lot of crab. This may be the best we've ever consumed. Amazing clam chowder. The fries were, sadly, inedible and the smoked sturgeon on a stick tasted like it had been poorly handled (lots of gross commingled flavors from the refrigerator I imagine) Every ounce of crab and chowder was consumed, the fries and sturgeon ended up in the trash. That being said, we will return, just more careful Re what we order.

This place is AMAZING!!! I had a delicious crab melt on ciabatta, the hubs had the fish and chips and we shared a smoked salmon on a stick. Everything was crazy good but the kicker was how magical the location is. You have to wander around a sketchy parking lot past an abandoned looking building and emerge onto a gorgeous pier to find a sweet little mom and pop lunch counter/convenience store/cannery. You feel like you just pushed past a wardrobe and found yourself in Narnia!! Truly a hidden gem that you won't regret going out of your way to find.

The smoked scallops and oysters were a huge hit; I made a crab-mac with their fresh picked shelled dungeoness, and shrimp cocktail with Oregon shrimp. 10 lbs of mixed manila/butter clams all fresh, all popped, yummy. Here, the art of curing is not a craft but a calling. Lunch is a liturgy. The clam chowder arrives like a maritime memory-velvety, studded with tender-cheeked clams, each spoonful a foghorn in a bowl. The salmon burger, grilled to a rosy medium, defies the dry, crumbly fates of lesser patties; it is juicy, lush, and dressed with a tartar that brightens like a lighthouse flash. But the true epiphany? The lox on a bagel--silk-smooth, brined with the precision of a jeweler, draped over cream cheese that yields like fresh snow. It is not merely eaten; it is contemplated. We depart with coolers stuffed with their cold-smoked Sockeye salmon-amber-gold, peppery, almost buttery in its melt-destined for Manhattan bagels and late-night toasts. It travels like treasure. Yet Josephson's soul isn't found in the smokehouse alone-it lives in the warm, unhurried grace of its counter staff, each one wonderfully kind. Against the coldness of algorithms, this is hospitality as rebellion. Five stars? Insufficient. This is a constellation.

It was a good decision. Note for fellow travelers: their menu is small. They are a smokehouse that oh by the way has a small dining area as well, which they call the Chowder House. Small can be beautiful. Specialization has its benefits. We ordered the chowder and smoked salmon on rye. First, the chowder. It's the real deal, slightly thinner than some, but not too thin, and boy howdy delicious. Seriously, its some of the best. I would say it's up there with Gracie's Sea Hag in Depoe Bay. It does not skimp on the clams, and is chunky throughout. The smoked salmon on rye exchanges a bagel for rye toast, but keeps the rest of the traditional deli staple intact. There is cream cheese, capers, red onion, and, of course, the salmon. (I don't know where smoked raw salmon ends and nova lox begins. They seem to be the same.) This is where we begin to understand those benefits of specialization. It was simply the best I've had. It was well smoked and tasted fabulous with the rye. If you have passed this place by for years as well, stop it, and stop by. It's good stuff. They also ship their smoked salmon.

They also have a good choice of other items on the menu Once I put in my order, the food comes quickly. The clam chowder was amazing. The smokiness of the clams Comes over into the soup. It was a smoky flavor, but it did not overwhelm the soup. It complimented it very well. There was a very generous portion of the clams and other ingredients. Dear Lord, I couldn't believe the size of that platter of fish and chips. Two giant pieces of rockfish, a very generous portion of fries, and a coleslaw. You also get ketchup for your fries, and a very delicious tartar sauce. I liked the coleslaw. It was not overdressed, and had just a little bit of a peppery bite. The pepper did not overwhelm the coleslaw. The fish was not overly battered, and not greasy at all. The fish was flaky and rich. The fries had just a littlle bit of a crisp on the outside, and were perfectly tender on the inside. The entire meal was amazing. It was so big, I brought one of the pieces of rockfish and about half of my fries back to my motel for breakfast the next morning. I walked in about 10 minutes before closing and offered to take my food to go, but my server told me that while the kitchen was closing, I was still welcome to eat in the dining room since the bar would remain open. I didn't catch her name, but she was "awesome possum"--cute, short, energetic, and full of the kind of fun, friendly banter you would expect from Flo at a classic diner. She made the whole experience even better. I ordered the FishMonger fish and chips platter, which came with two pieces of tuna, plus cod, rockfish, and salmon. It was an incredible amount of food for only $24! The batter was perfectly crunchy and flavorful, the fish tasted fresh, and the portions were very generous. I barely managed to finish it, but I persevered--mostly by sacrificing the fries! The only slightly confusing part was finding the restaurant. Some of the reviews made it sound like a standalone location, but FishMongers is actually located inside the South Jetty dining room and bar. Once I found it, though, I loved the atmosphere. It had a great, relaxed vibe, excellent food, and outstanding service. I will definitely be back!
