I'm glad I did because they sold out by the time I got there after work. Got the bangarang sandwich which has cream cheese with Portuguese herbs, cranberry, turkey and Swiss and got it grilled. Their other hot sandwich is the Bistro which I saw had a good cheese pull. There's at least 15 places to sit at inside. I asked for a potato salad with my sandwich and my friend got the Hawaiian Mac. So ..for $18 after tax and tip, we got a double Costco sized sample cup of whatever side we ordered which was disappointing. Sandwich was good. There's a water dispenser with free water. Carrot cake was not too sweet and moist. Is it the most epic carrot cake I've ever had? Nope. Would have liked more walnuts though. read more

The northwest is delicatessen challenged. I grew up in an area that was well populated with people that really know how to make a sandwich, but having lived in the northwest for 20 years it's always been a struggle for me to find a good one. I had high hopes for this place, And I need to go back and try more of what they have to offer to really make my mind up. But I have to say the sandwich I ordered was mediocre and expensive. I really want to like this place and it looks like they have quality food so I'm chocking this one up to just a Difference in styles from what I would prefer to what I got. Tried calling at 7:20pm to place an order for pickup at 7:45 because they close at 8. No answer. Got there and was excited to see the open sign on, although all indoor lights were off. Staff didn't welcome us or say anything but I figured they were tired so I said how excited I was they were still open. Told her the 2 sandwiches we wanted and she said, oh we shut down at between 7:30-7:45 so she could not make us sandwiches but that whatever in the case was available. My husband asked for the breakfast burrito and she said she could not heat it because they were shut down. Pretty sure the panini switch has a simple on off button. We got potato salad and carrot cake. She never attempted to say sorry for the inconvenience or anything, looked pretty put out that we were there. As we were leaving we mentioned we had called earlier in an attempt to place an order and she said, phones aren't working, I'll tell the owner. I'm pretty sure the owner doesn't know they are refusing to make sandwiches a half hour before closing time- which is the only reason I'm taking the time to write the review. Not even close to the same as the old beloved Peter Pan. I searched everywhere for a phone number to place a take out order but couldn't find one so I ended up ordering online, which I didn't want to do. -1 Star. When I arrived my order wasn't ready but it didn't take long to get the items that weren't ready yet. The place so looks mostly the same inside. I told the friendly staff member that I couldn't find a phone number anywhere and she told me that when they are busy they wouldn't bother answering the phone anyway. Strange, I thought, the old Peter Pan was always busy but they were somehow able to actually answer their phone for the 25 years I've been ordering from them. And the new Peter Pan had 3 or 4 people working while the old one almost always had only 2 employees on shift. Hm. -1 Star. The food... I've always loved the super high quality meats and cheeses the old Peter Pan offered, like off the bone turkey and ham and thick slices of good salami. Well, the new Peter Pan doesn't seem to place the same value on quality because the meats on the sub sandwiches are basically (if not lower) the same quality that you can find at Fred Meyer. Not even the good stuff at Fred Meyer but more like the cheapest deli meat you can get. The salami was sliced so thin you could literally see through it. No Dijon in the subs either. And instead of being piled high with meat and cheese, there was probably less than half the meat and cheese compared to the old sub sandwich. We got two other "new" sandwiches as well that were unimpressive. -1 Star. The potato salad dubbed "OG Potato Salad" on the menu board was inedible. The 4 or 5 chunks of potato were hard as a rock and there were large chunks of celery with very little egg and no dill that I could see. The potato salad was watery and not the delicious creamy stuff I used to get. And there was basically two maybe three bites in the individual container that used to be filled to the brim. -1 Star. But instead of charging less for subpar quality and scant servings, the new Peter Pan is changing MORE. I'm confused as to why that is. I would mind paying more if the quality was what it used to be. -1 Star. The one item that passes is the carrot cake. The frosting is a little different, maybe whipped longer or more cream cheese but it was still so close to perfect I'm just going to say it was the same as it's old counterpart. Delicious! +1 Star. No baked beans, no chili or daily soups that I noticed. Just a smoked salmon chowder. Staff was friendly and very helpful. +1 star I'm hoping the new owners will be responsive to feedback and can iron out the details to bring this iconic market back to its former stellar status. Well we went back to Peter Pan again. Thought that I would try something else to eat and review. I had the vegetable soup again. And the vegetable sandwich. My partner had the salmon chowder and the other half of the vegetable sandwich Let me start off. That salmon chowder was outstanding. In fact I robbed my wife of over half of the chowder. But let's move on The cook should look at the vegetable sandwich. Good concept but poor mixture of taste. The white bread just doesn't get it. Take some time and create a good hardy seed or wheat bread. And the mustard. It over powered the sandwich. Forget it. Try something else. Maybe a good pesto or a great Italian dressing. Ok. My vegetable soup which I had the other day which was outstanding. Was old. Nothing fresh. Had that bottom of the pot taste. the kale was old it had that old bad taste. Come on. After a quick visit to the Astoria Column, I was heading to the nearby Fred Myers to pick up some beverages and snacks for my airbnb and I drove past this cute little grocer, and pulled off instead. I'm so glad I did! Not only did I get some quirky local sodas and bevs to restock my airbnb refridgerator with, I got a delicious sando from the deli and they even had a take away of diced chicken for my pooch. Loved this spot!. Husband picked us up some lunch from here while i watched our kids at the park next door (across the road). We shared a smoked salmon/corn chowder which I LOVED so far its been my favorite chowder since living here. We also went halves on the workers sandwich . We've done all the breweries, stores, museums, etc...so this time around...we went with the places that the locals keep in business. It involved tracking down little gems like this Market that time has forgotten. Wow...what a gem...and what makes it stand out on yelp but the carrot cake...i love carrot cake...my Grandmother who made the most amazing cake would have enjoyed this carrot cake...why? Because it uses her secret ingredient...what's her secret ingredient? Well...if I told you, then it wouldn't be a secret and I wouldn't want to ruin it for the wonderful folks at Peter Pan Market. Just trust me...seek this place out...eat the carrot cake...it is the best carrot cake that I've had in 25 years.
