Very new clean organized store. Being new to the area this is the closest grocery store to me. The first visit they had run out of Safeway customer cards, I would've thought they'd have offered a temporary card but they didn't. Of course I didn't choose to shop that day. I decided to try a week later and they did have the cards in. This is my second interaction with the customer service desk. I can say my first impression was the employee wasn't the friendliest. I sorta overlooked it then, but on the return visit I got the same. Not sure but I'm sure this was a manager. No eye contact, no smile.nothing welcoming at all. I've had at least three interactions since with the front desk with the same person and one other. Both didn't act as if they wanted to help at all. Love this location in Hyattsville. Although, I've come here each week for the past 2 months or so and the express lanes are the only lanes open. Edit: 1/16/2017 This location has started charging for parking. The first two hours are free, with validation from your cashier. It was difficult exiting the garage because you are supposed to scan the ticket rather than insert it. The scanner is very low! If you have long arms this will be no problem. This place is brand new so I have always found parking. It's kept very clean and it's evident that they place a value on customer service. The service is just as good in the Starbucks within the store and the people behind the counter who sell some very good sushi! read more

Each time I go into this store the cashiers show no sign of any kindness, response, or any sign of life. I always show friendliness when I'm checking out, but I never get acknowledged each time I go into the Safeway. Considering the other grocery stores around this one, they should show some better customer service skills. read more

Have patience when going to this location. I come here often, but ONLY because it's near to my home. There is always, ALWAYS a long line with one or two registers open. They are understaffed. The very few cashiers are rude ( probably because they are understaffed). Prices have been labeled incorrectly on more than 2 occasions. When asking for assistance on a price change for an item it's either the cashier isn't properly trained to handle the situation or the manager tells me it's the correct price because they refuse to walk back to check the price labeled. Safeway on East-West Highway has the worst customer especially during this corona- pandemic. I get that policies are in place for the returns of food, but their has to be some fair grounds if I purchased food that has spoiled. Calls were placed twice and both times 2 female representatives thought it was professional to place me on hold and blind transfer me to the Pharmacy Department. I just want to be able to get some meat that's not spoiled. I still have my receipt and it hasn't been 1 week since my purchase. Stores are already price gouging and shelves are pretty much empty. How much would it really take out of your pockets or your day just to satisfy a customer trying to feed their family? Now if I made a pop up visit and acted a plum fool I'd be wrong. So I placed another call and to no surprise they decided not to answer. I hope store 3274 does better when handling these situations. Now let's try contacting corporate. read more

One of the best additions to the new Hyattsville. Easy to park. Great floral section. Fast service. Hot good bar and Starbucks. Way better than the Giant, and much mor affordable than the Whole Foods. They also have great baked goods and an extremely friendly bakery staff. Really nothing bad to say about this place. The selection and price of groceries is decent, though not anything to crazy about. However, their customer service is so bad that it borders on ridiculous. They have tons of checkout lanes but even during the busiest times of the day, they will have 2 open, plus a couple of express lanes which are only 15 items or fewer. The people who work the registers are agonizingly slow. Without any exaggeration or hyperbole, you should expect 15-25 minutes of waiting time in line during weekday evenings or on the weekend. The person at the register who checked out my groceries this afternoon was extremely rude. When you pull into the garage, it is plastered with signed saying 2-hours free parking with validation. I've been to this grocery store dozens of times (for some stupid reason), and every single time the person at the register has validated my parking. When I went to the urgent care center that uses the same garage, they validated my tickets. Today, I pulled out my ticket and asked for it to be validated. The employee was extremely rude, saying it didn't need to be validated. I was confused seeing as every other time it has been validated and there are signs everywhere saying the tickets need to be validated. She was short tempered and rude, basically yelling repeatedly and other employees around her, just started laughing. They also have an unreasonably high rate of pricing errors. I'd say about 75% of the time there are blatant errors made on our bill. For example, today instead of ringing up two bags of coffee at buy on get one, it rang up as $2 off one bag. I walked towards the customer service desk, which in retrospect was a stupid idea because I've never seen anyone working the CS desk. No one was there, but an employee walked past me. She asked me what I needed. I responded, "Oh, I...." She then rudely cut me off (she asked me what I needed, remember?) and semi-yelled at me "Just get in any line!" As stated above, waiting in line would have taken probably 20 minutes of wasted time. I had no idea I could care this much about a grocery store, but I'll definitely be going out of my way to avoid it from now on. With the Giant just down the street and the new Whole Foods, there is no reason to keep going here. I know that no store is perfect, but having gone to other grocery stores in the area and in DC, this place is unacceptably under-staffed and the employees are rude and undertrained. read more

Sub-mediocre Safeway that had promise. Despite it looking great from outside, the fruit has a weird taste to it, same with the breakfast bar. They are always late putting out baked goods in the morning. There is almost always never enough stations open at the checkout line. Why they built a new Safeway without a self-checkout section is baffling and idiotic. Lastly, it is NOT open 24 hours. It's regularly closed during the times between 2am-4am. The only saving grace is their Asian bar. I've stopped going there unless I really have to. PS, skip the starbucks inside, they don't know what they're doing. There's a real Starbucks literally across the street. Go there. read more

This is a fairly typical suburban grocery store, and I was able to find what I was looking for. I decided to write a review because the customer service stood out to me. I was there on a Sunday afternoon, and every Safeway rep I encountered was exceptionally friendly and helpful, from the person who offered to go get me a cart on my way in, to the person stocking produce, the self-checkout supervisor, and even the security professional near the entrance/exit. When this place opened I loved it. But that love ended tonight. I went to the Seafood department and got Snow Crab legs. The seafood department attendant wrapped them up really good. When I got home and took them out to heat up I noticed a skunky ammonia smell from the crab legs. That's messed up. There were two seafood attendants at the time I was there and they had to know that the snow crab legs they were selling tonight were not good. I might come back here for other groceries. Might. Only because they sell a few things that I don't find at the Giant down the street. Then again I never got skunky crab legs from Giant. I will never buy seafood from here again because they need better management. Those employees tonight knew that particular product was bad but that department still chose to sell it. read more

Frankly speaking this Safeway has all the bells and whistles. Modern infrastructure and plenty of parking. I recommend parking upstairs on the second parking deck to bypass the potential parking war situation at the ground level. This Safeway allows free parking for up to two hours. Segway into the actual store, the store is clean and as many of the international items that I love so dearly. They have a small but significant Latin section with common brands (e.g. Goya). Which is typical for this part of Prince George's County. The staff members/ associates are typical of any grocery store, you have your part timers (high schools and college aged adults) and then you have your lifers. I've received good customer service from the seafood/meat section. The Butchers are always willing to help you find the best deals. The heartbreaking part comes to checking out (paying for your groceries). Simple right? Nope, not here. This store does not have any self check outlines. Which puts significant pressure on the cashiers. I've witnessed cashiers having lines with 20 plus customers each. Which wouldn't be a problem if they had all 12 (estimated) check lanes staffed. But unfortunately the reality is they typically only have about two cashiers working at all times. Staffing of cashiers is imperative for such a busy store. I left today w/o groceries because the line was so long! It was wrapped around to the produce section! Unbelievable, it's not even snowing outside. Lol I recommend staffing of additional cashiers or install multiple self check lanes. For me sadly I will not be returning for sometime. read more

One of the nicer Safeways in the area and more modern as well.They clearly focus on millennials and health conscious people like myself,along with the workers in the surrounding office buildings.I like the hot bar where you have plenty of healthy options and some nice so healthy options (hehe) but you have options nonetheless.However as others have pointed out no matter what time of day it is the line is always a problem! It is very rare for me to say that I had an exceptional customer service experience at a grocery store. Well today I did! This was my first time at this location and I will certainly be returning. The store was fully stocked and clean. As well as everyone was very friendly and helpful. I have to mention 3 specific people for making my experience what it was today. The Starbucks Manager "Q" started off my store visit with his pleasant and upbeat demeanor. The floral associate Fatima, noticed I couldn't find something I was looking for and offered to stop what she was doing and create an arrangement for me with the flowers I wanted. She even created a travel container to help me transport it because the vase was an awkward size and didn't fit in the regular box. Last but not least, Ms. Ruby was so sweet as she assisted me in checking out. For something so simple as grocery shopping, I truly appreciated the genuine kindness and service I received today. 5 stars!! read more

Covered parking was already full so I had to go up the ramp and use an elevator, a bit time consuming. The overriding thing you notice about this store is all the uniformed security officers -- I've never seen so many in a grocery store! I find it insulting to the neighborhood but if it's needed, I'd rather not shop here! The store itself is standard Safeway with a few twists like a Starbucks and a pizza counter but nothing to override the hassle to get in and the overbearing security presence -- I won't be back. read more

At noontime my elderly parents were shopping at your store, they lost their ticket for parking and asked to be helped getting out at the Safeway. While several female staff members argued among themselves they turned on my mother and berated her and threatened to charge her $30. dollars for the lost parking ticket. One of them reluctantly helped them out of the parking situation. My father has said several times a female staff member has yelled at him about various things he did incorrectly at the store. Mother is smart enough to never return to your store. I am not so sure about my Dad. I hope the verbal abuse does not escalate into something worse. Someone may have to press charges if he is ever hurt. read more

This Safeway was sorely needed because the Giant across the street is terrible. This store unlike many other Safeways is bright, well stocked and the people working here are friendly and helpful even at 1030 pm. Their prepared food section is decent. My husband got the sushi--I judged him because who buys that from the grocery store? But he said that it was actually decent. The displays are modern, they seem to have local produce which I support since Maryland has a lot of great farmers. It'd be great if they could have locally produced milk as well. I really, really love this Safeway. Its new, its huge and its in a convenient location! The have a private parking lot that is free for the first 2 hours with validation. When I am in the area, I would normally visit the Giant down the street but not anymore! The have a really nice hot bar and a Starbucks inside. The always seem to be very well staffed judging by the amount of cashiers that are always open. I do not like that fact that they do not have any self check-outs. How are you a brand new establishment that doesn't have a single self check-out. Everything always seem clean and well stocked. The employees are friendly and on more than a few occasions they have catered to my needs. I have heard nothing but good things about their fried chicken, however, I have never personally tried it. I think their fruits and vegetables were fresh and their floral shop always has the pretties flowers. Would I drive out of my way to come here? Looooong lines. Never more than one cashier for carts. Decent otherwise but with lines go to Giant.

The sushi bar is very nice. It's a great place to quick pick up dinner. And the people works there are very friendly.

Update to my previous 4 star review. When the place first opened all the registers were filled, express and the normal lanes, which was awesome! Everyone got through the line really fast back then. Unfortunately, now, there is usually only 1 person who is on a register outside of the 15 items or less express lanes. The express lanes are always fully staffed, but also almost always empty. There are normally a ton of people who have more than 15 items. We all get stuck in one or two lines, staring at the empty express lanes and the cashiers sitting there actively trying not to notice that the line we're in is starting to wrap around the corner. At least have them jump off one of those registers and start helping with the normal lanes until the lines get to a reasonable size. This store is still better than the other Safeways in the area mostly due to the fact its new, but we have started to dread going because of the lines. I really wish they would fix this issue and looking at other people's reviews, it seems this problem is becoming a common theme for complaint. read more

Top of the evening. I had the misfortune of visiting the W Hyattsville Location 10/09/2016 around 15:15-15:30 searching for something to cook for dinner I was able to locate what I desired. I'm standing in line according to where it starts I've frequented the establishment since grand opening latter part of the summer. A customer walks up ask if I was in line I responded yes. She them commenced to telling me guess your not because I wasn't standing on the heels of the current guest at checkout number 3 which was the only express line open (there's clearly a shortage of employees regardless of the time it's a line with only maybe 1 or 2 express open and maybe one other register available which generally has A line. We exchange words which got me heated because clearly she wasn't aware of the set up. But what Threw me was the acting store guard was standing there heard her approach and then commence to trying to chastise me for letting her know she didn't want to travel down the road that she had just paved. I almost made such a scene that they would have needed to call law enforcement which being a Black man can be risky here in the United States Of America so I walked out almost on fire and chose to submit my frustration in a more sociable way. He wasn't even Trying to consign the mere fact she had disrespected me because he could determine I was gay. I will make every effort to never return there or if I see the door guard I will walk over to Giant on the other side of E W Highway. Visited at 10:pm tonight & was pretty disturbed when I got in line & realized only 2 express lanes were open. Most of the customers had cart loads of groceries, so I envisioned my ice cream melting as I waited to check out. Fortunately, the cashiers were very focused & quick!! But in addition to the guys who worked swiftly with a smile, the young woman who was also working in the cash office came out to open a 3rd lane. I had the pleasure of getting in her line. She had just been disrespected & possibly threatened by some young guys over the Western Union station being closed, so she had every right to be a little upset at their unwarranted treatment, but she greeted me with a smile & even encouraged me. She has a beautiful spirit & is a great asset to your store. Normally I wouldn't take time to address her customer service, but after finding out she was only 23 I had to give this mature young woman her kudos!! Here's the thing. This could be the best store ever, but it wouldn't matter because the check out lines are always ridiculous. I had seen this Safeway being built on my way to work and was pleasantly surprised hat it was open...I would disagree with a few of the responses here. Granted I came around 9:45 AM on a weekday. But a few comments: 1) Safeway is the cleanest one I have seen recently. 2) there are a few items that may seem out of place, but that's what happens in a new store, 3) my customer service experience was fantastic...I needed a rain check and a manager had to determine if they had the item. She walked with me to help find it...I will certainly be returning again! read more

My main complaint: No self-check out and never enough checkers! I am not that fond of the nearby Giant, but at least I can quickly check myself out at that store and don't have to stand in line for 5-10 min. for only a few of items. read more

Open 24 hours, but not really. Lame displays, very limited selection, and if you actually want to find a sale item, after hours, even if it is listed on a circular at the front of the store, forget it. Not much about my previous review of the store itself has changed; checkout has gotten much better since when the store first opened. Produce is nice, bakery dept. is good. However - one thing that definitely needs to be changed is access for people who don't drive, such as myself. Thing is, when you drive and enter the parking garage, you have to get a ticket and if you get it validated, no charge for parking. However, what about those of us who don't drive? If I take a bus to the store and call a taxi when I'm finished shopping, there's no taxi stand or other convenient place to wait for a cab. I mean, if I'm not driving, can't see how I'd get a ticket when I enter the store, and the taxi driver probably wouldn't want to get a ticket to get through the barrier, then have to go into the store to get it validated, just to pick me up! I called a cab last week and he stopped outside the parking lot barrier; I tried walking my cart through the barrier out to the street in back of the store where the cab was waiting and the wheels locked up on the cart (apparently a certain point you can't cross w/ the carts). So there I was, a cartload of bags and having to carry all of them from inside the parking lot out to the cab. To make it even more "fun", I have arthritis which made bringing all of the bags out to the cab more difficult. It's certainly not the cab drivers' responsibility to carry my packages. I wouldn't mind shopping at this store more often, but seeing the problems I had last week, guaranteed I won't be a customer at this store. read more
