I've traveled to several international markets in the area. I found this market to be one of the best. They stock fresh produce/herbs that are hard to find in regular grocery stores. Produce like Thai Basil, and Thai Eggplant. I traveled to 3 stores in the area trying to find the Eggplant. They have rows and rows of Asian sauces, curries, etc. I highly recommend if you do a lot of Thai cooking and want that authentic taste. read more

This place is amazing. It has lots of fresh green vegetables and fruits. It's a huge section. They also have sauces, spices and snacks from all over Asia, Jamaica, Turkey, India. Their Asian selection got smaller tho. I bought a whole tres leches cake from here and it was so damn good! Food is mediocre and overpriced. I wouldn't travel here for the food. My jjajangmyun was salty and noodles were bunched up together. Also ordered spicy squid stir fry but that was so underwhelming. I didn't know such dish can be blend and spicy at the same time. Squid was not evenly cooked either. Terrible cooking. Bibimbap was also meh. All the lettuce to fill up the space. You can judge a Korean place by their kimchi and bibimbap. This place was thumbs down. They had much better food before when this was Lotte. This food court is only okay for residents who live near that need access to Korean food. But nobody should travel here specifically for the food court. Over priced store. Molded food on the shelf and horrible treatment when returned. I have been looking forward to the opening of this store. I was sad to see Lotte go as I shopped there frequently. However, I will never step foot in this store again. Sad, because I was looking forward to the food vendors and had hopes that the fresh sushi would be back. My experience with management convinced me otherwise. I do not enjoy getting a bad item from a store, but I know it happens - no big deal. But here - it was the response to me as a customer and the total lack of ownership or even a simple apology. The item was molded. I purchased it (a bun called bulla) on 7/3 and opened it and broke off a little piece to let my daughter try it on 7/4. When she went back to get another piece, she saw mold on the one beneath. I took it back on 7/5 and was made to feel as if I stole the bread! I did not have a receipt because I spent about $48, but pulled up the transaction and showed them. I will say they tried every way possible not to make the situation right. This was a $5 item and by far one of the least expensive things that I purchased. I had actually just stopped by to see the new store and picked up a few things while I was there. Based on the way that I was treated, I would never go back. A little customer service and kindness goes a long way. Unfortunately, I found none of that at New Grand Mart! read more

I really want to like New Grand Mart because it has a very good selection of Asian groceries and would save me a trip to Rockville. The selection is better than Atlantic Supermarket, and the parking is also less crazy on the weekends, which is a plus. But the pricing is confusing and inconsistent. A bag of soup dumplings had no price label on its shelf and I only found that it was $6.29--considerably more expensive than that of Great Wall--at the cashier, where I asked her to void the purchase. More problematic was a box of crackers: price label on the shelf said $1.99, but the cashier scanned it in at $2.39. When I tried to explain to her it was $1.99 on the shelf, she just simply responded "No" several times and pointed at the UPC code. She was neither willing to go back there to check the price herself, nor was she willing to let me go back there and snap a picture of the pricing label. Is 40 cents a big deal? No, of course not. But it's hard to shop at a place where the prices either don't match the displays, or simply aren't displayed. It's an annoyance that should not be necessary and should be redressed with better customer service. read more

This is my go to Asian grocery store in this area of Maryland. They have a good selection of fresh veggies (with Asian ones like Korean turnips and bok choy and Asian fruits), a solid meat and fish section, and Asian cooking staples like rice, noodles, etc. It's not as big as the one in Eden Center (which is huge so hard to compare) or as trendy and well stocked as Ranch 99. But it's a solid Asian grocery store with good prices. read more

I went here because I needed fresh rice noodles and Thai basil. The store seems to be half international half Asian. The selection of noodles was small. I did find Thai basil but didn't find the correct noodles. As I browsed, i found there selection of groceries not that bad. The biggest issue I had was the area. Someone was looking in car windows in the parking lot when I left. He had a cut down bat in his hand and dressed in all black with only his eyes showing in 90* heat. I can only assume the bat was to bust out car windows or worse. This was 11:00am too. The area is a little to sketchy for me. read more

I come here from time to time and always find what I need. I always aim at fish and seafood in this place because it seems they always have fresh seafood. The supermarket is very big and the price is pretty cheap, a little cheaper than other places. They mostly have Latino a d hispanic product you also find asain product too. It's a t the heart of Langley park so naturally most of the shoppers are hispanic and Latino. The music is always spanish and a lot of times pretty load. The check out mostly fast although most lines are closed. read more

I wish I found New Grand Mart sooner! The store itself is pretty large. There is a large section for produce, frozen foods, meat in the back, and plenty of aisles dedicated to each type of ethnic category. They have grocery items for all my favorite types of cuisine - Indian, Thai, Chinese, Korean, Latino, West-Indian/Jamaican, etc.! And there is such a large selection of each type of item. I was looking for a sweet Thai chili sauce and there were about 10 different brands and varieties! You almost get overwhelmed by the selection, but in a good way! If you need some obscure ingredient, New Grand Mart is sure to have it! The store is also very clean and well organized and there's never been a line when I've gone. Plenty of free parking as well in their parking lot. And the prices are very reasonable. Skip the so-called "ethnic grocery" aisles at the other big chain grocery stores and come here instead! read more

I have discovered heaven. Turns out, it's in Langley Park. Who knew? New Grand Mart has the most amazing produce section I have ever seen. They have every fruit and vegetable imaginable, and it all looks good and is all super super cheap. In addition to that, they have a huge, inexpensive seafood department with lots of fresh fish (including some live fish in tanks, live crabs, clams, mussels, etc.), meat counter, and a huge assortment of frozen and shelf-stable staples from across Asia (Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Korean, Indian, Indonesian, Vietnamese, probably others that are slipping my mind right now...) I couldn't help myself, and completely filled up the basket I grabbed coming in the door (not expecting to buy much at all) and was expecting some sticker shock as I checked out.... I ended up getting a bunch of thai chilis, a big thing of thai basil, a couple pounds of thai eggplant, kaffir lime leaves, 4 ataulfo mangos, 10 limes, a huge bag of green beans, a green papaya, a giant hand of ginger, ~12 habeneros, ~6 peaches, 5 heads of garlic, 4 cans coconut milk, big bottle of sri racha, chili garlic sauce, oyster sauce, and the grand total was.... $38. I was blown away. (see picture) As a bonus, the staff all were very friendly and helpful! Not metro-accessible, but I did notice they have a sign advertising that they will give you a free ride home if you buy $50 of food. That's a really wonderful option for folks without cars who live in the area who could easily buy food to feed a family for a week and get a free ride home. 5 stars, will return again (constantly). read more

New Grand Mart has a Costco-like warehouse feel to it, except that it's a lot dirtier. There were quite a lot of flies in the store and the ground is super dirty as well. I come here to get speciality Asian products. They do sell legitimate Asian brands here, so this is a good place to stop by to get Asian products or groceries. However, it seems that some of their products are not guaranteed to be fresh or safe. I bought some chicken from here: it was not past the sell by date, so we assumed it would be okay. However when I opened the package, the chicken smelt horrible and upon further examination, the color of the chicken was off. It probably went bad and they did not remove it from the shelves. Complete waste of money. I will definitely come back here, but I would be careful about purchasing items from their produce sections. read more

My wife was delighted with the Indonesian instant noodle selection. Also has some of the best seafood prices I've seen in the DC area. Overall, definitely recommend. Im actually quite a big fan of this place. This location used to be called H&A Supermarket and then I guess they were taken over by new management. Luckily the inside of the store seems to be exactly the same and they carry all the same items. What I like about this store is that they are located close to the University of Maryland and provide a fairly wide selection of so-called "ethnic" grocery items. The selection ranges from Asian such as Indian, Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese to pan Latin American, unfortunately I am unable to identity products from particular countries but I can say that they carry a lot of Salvadorean cheeses. The wide selection of vegetables at low prices is probably their strongest selling point. In addition to staples like onions, potatoes, tomatoes, etc.. they also have a huge variety of hard to find items like Indian bitter gourd and Chinese long hot green pepper. FYI I have bought a 3 lb bag of onions here for $.79!! The cilantro costs $.50 a bunch, the bunches of scallions are also $.50. Enoki mushrooms for $.80, really great prices!! I should also mention the meat and seafood. They have live fish and decent quality shrimp (you can buy head-on shrimp here, which is actually hard to find in many places). They have skirt steak for between $3.99 and $5.99 /lb depending on the grade, but both are very fresh and you can specify the weight that you would like instead of having to buy prepackaged meat. If you look hard you can also find other ingredients that you often have to go to country-specific specialty stores for. For example they have beni shōga (the slightly spicy Japanese red pickled ginger), that I thought could only be bought at Hana Japanese Market in DC. Im very glad to have this international store near by, I go there often and would certainly recommend it to other who are looking for ingredients that you may not be able to find in generic supermarkets. read more

Very solid supermarket offering a wide variety of ingredients for Asian, Caribbean, and Latin American cuisines. Not as large or varied as the typical H-Mart store, but this is a good option for people in NE DC and nearby areas. The prices were not especially cheap, but they were quite reasonable. (Ataulfo mangos were regularly priced at $1/piece, for example, whereas Whole Foods offers that price only when the mangos are on sale. Asian pears were $5.99 for 3, which is not outrageous but not a special bargain, either.) They had a nice selection of tropical fruit. I bought apple bananas (small, firmer, more flavorful than typical Cavendish bananas), dragonfruit, jackfruit, the aforementioned Ataulfo mangos and Asian pears, lemon plums which were a new and delicious discovery for me, and papaya. I also bought guava but these were a little overripe. Other than that, the fruit was all fresh and tasty. New Grand Mart does have great prices on fresh herbs. A huge pack of Thai basil was about $2. I was disappointed not to find a great selection of either salad or braising greens. They had spring mix measured out into small containers, at so-so prices. I had come shopping here specifically to stock up on items for green smoothies, so was disappointed not to be able to find baby spinach in bulk, for example. Definitely check out the freezers. One thing I was excited to find was frozen coconut milk. They have lots of frozen vegetables, ready to eat meals, dumplings and bao, etc. In the interior aisles there is a wealth of sauces, flours, mixes, you name it. They offer a good selection, although the thing I hoped most to find was gochujang, but the brands they carry all use MSG, which I try to avoid. That was sad. The meat looked iffy--some of it was turning gray! So if you chance the meat here, make sure you look closely at it. The staff were all friendly and helpful. If you purchase over $50 worth of merchandise, they will drive you home with your groceries. Also, they will give you a $1 scratch-off lottery ticket, which is fun. If you spend over $100, they give you a $2 scratch-off lottery ticket. There are attendants in the parking lot who will watch your cart while you go get your car to load your groceries, and will also load your car for you. There are some nice personal touches when you shop here. read more

New Grand Mart International Food (as it is now known) is under new management and thus, has taken on a new name. I love this place and I really wish in had more locations throughout the DC area. In addition to a huge international selection of foods, this is my go-to place whenever I want great, fresh produce at great prices. Whether you're looking for exotic fruits, hard to find vegetables, or just a wide selection of fresh herbs, this is the place to be. In addition, they have a great fresh seafood selection with staff to help assist you. The only downside: they've gotten rid of their butchers, though their meat selection is quite extensive and still great. I used to love to get my oxtails directly from the butcher, where I could pick and choose the cuts that I wanted, but now its all prepackaged (and the cuts I want are often packaged with the ones that I don't). I love this place and even though it's all the way across town, I'll still make that trip because it's totally worth it. read more

This place is magical. It's a trip around the world every time you go. It's like every international grocery store combined into one. It is also vastly improved over its former self (H&A Supermarket). The produce is incredible - clean, well-organized, cheap, varied - I love trying a new exotic type of greens every time I go. I am never disappointed in the produce. You can eat very healthfully on the cheap shopping here. Also, for vegans and vegetarians, their fake meat department is awesome - they have a variety of flavored tofus as well as imitation beef and chicken at the end of the produce department. There is an Indian aisle, Japanese aisle, Thai aisle, and so on and on. Another great strength is the frozen foods department, which is HUGE and has so many interesting items, including cheddar and sweet corn flavored ice cream, samosas, dumplings, squid, etc. etc. This place is really a treasure in the area. read more

They have an extensive collection of all of my favorite types of cuisine, and their produce selection will make any veggie lover squeal in delight. Major bonus points for the vegan/vegetarian-friendly selection - excellent faux-meats/tofu (try the vegetarian beef!!) and they even have Earth Balance! Great herbs, vegetables that you wouldn't find at a regular grocery store -- I always stock up on herbs here (but if you get the Thai basil, use immediately). Many different tofu products so great for vegans and vegetarians, and also a full fish market inside -- the offerings are very fresh most of the time. The noodle section is spectacular; I get oyster sauce, quality sesame and chilli oils, and real saffron. Always something new to try and cook with in every food section of the store. Haven't tried the frozen foods but bunches of interesting stuff there. read more

I was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED. The fruits and vegetables were poor quality and they have tacky signs all over about not trying the fruit before buying. With this place opening, I don't have to go to Rockville to get all my Asian produce and snacks anymore! Unlike some of the other places around, this store is just as big as Great Wall with all the brands from my childhood! The place also has a lot of parking space and I'll definitely be doing my shopping here for greens and meat! As per usual with all Asian produce, be aware that you have to cook them within 3 days out else they go bad (the bane of open market produce). You can also freeze some things, but now that since the packaging is sometimes not the best quality, it can go bad in the freezer. read more

I happened to go into the New Grand Mart after having lunch at the Season Buffet next door. As soon as I walked in. I began to notice a lot of exotic produce and a wide variety of foreign goods. The aisles are organized, the store is clean, staff is helpful and courteous, and the prices are excellent. There are clean bathrooms back behind the meat department. Its a great store. This is a great market with a well round of fruits, vegetables, and meats/fish. This is the 1st market that truly has everything including American foods, which I find hard to find in international markets. The prices of meats, veggies are great. I will be back. read more
