How important is convenience? Fairly important in my world. For some reason I always forget one item on my shopping list and I know when cooking I can jaunt over here and back for that last ingredient before my place burns down. They've lured me back into their store and chain lately with this Just for U promotion. They look at your purchase history if you are a Club Card member and electronically send you coupons based on things you have already purchased. It's simple and if you aren't a foil hat-wearing conspiracy theorist, it's incredibly useful. You just click which deals you want and it downloads them onto your club card account and goes through automatically when you check out. I really like that you can use the deals again and again until they expire. Since I am paper coupon averse, this was pretty magical the first time I used it. Pros: Competitive pricing, particularly on dairy products and bread. There's nearly always a buy one get one free deal going on. They also carry a decent selection of Dave's. They seem to be making a better effort to buy local and organic to keep pace with their competitors. Crazy sales on wine at least 4 times a year. The employees here are all super nice and helpful and the store is always well-kept and clean. The bottle return machine is usually in good order. Cons: The beer selection makes me want to cry. Not kidding. Whoever buys their beer at this location must not drink beer and they sure don't know how to competitively price it. Unless you only drink Bud Light. Stick to the wine and their ridiculous discounts they offer frequently. The runner-up in things that make me want to cry is their produce. It is poorly stocked and low quality. They make an average effort to buy local. The meat department is also disappointing. Poor selection and I question the freshness sometimes. Their store re-organization from two years ago was a total fail in my book and they seem to be constantly moving and re-organizing since then. Maybe they should hand out maps at the door. Overall it's not bad, and definitely better than most Safeways around, I'm just glad there are other options nearby so I can get good produce and beer. Oh the beer. In a "normal" time I'm not much of a fan of grocery shopping! I'm one of those people who, in this day and time, struggles with anxiety when venturing out. Now it's even worse. People are on edge. You sense the invisible 6 feet that we are be separated by, and if you accidentally get too close to some people, you get a look mixed with fear and contempt. Craziness. However, I always hope Brooke is working to bring a bright spot into an otherwise frayed nerve day. She is always on her A game. Smiling, sincerely interested in how YOU are. I've been so disappointed in this Safeway since Covid 19 started. I use to shop at this store weekly however, they don't enforce the mask wearing. So many employees, online shoppers, and customers not wearing masks. Mask hanging off one ear? Not how you wear a mask. Nose sticking out the top of your mask? Also, not how you wear a mask. Mask down around your chin? Nope...still not how you wear a mask. Since the lack of mask wearing makes me uncomfortable I decided to only use their online delivery service. It was decent at first and has gone majorly downhill now that most orders are delivered by Door Dash. I will no longer be ordering groceries from Safeway. Prime and Amazon Fresh do a much better job. read more

Oh the deli counter! We recently moved from the east coast, where the deli worker would change gloves after each customer and use wax paper. I have watched at this location deli workers touch everything w their gloved hand then catch the meat on that hand and put the meat directly on the scale. Yuck. I have watched this happen w numerous employees bc I was thinking it was just one guy. It wasn't. I can't buy anything from the deli there. It's just to gross. What are the laws in OR?? read more

The drive up & go service has some serious issues, while all the people are nice, they are not efficient when it comes to collecting ALL of your grocery bags. In the past 6 months, they have forgotten one bag of groceries 4 times. I have been given a gift card but still have to go back for the groceries, which defeats the purpose of being convenient, especially with a toddler and one on the way. Overall, I like this store. Its easy to find your item and get out quick. For larger trips, I find their selection and prices pretty good. Workers are always walking around asking if they can help me. Pros: clean, has very helpful staff, and has a huge variety of brands. Produce is decent. Bagels are the best here! The staff always attempts to keep the lines short and open aisles whenever possible. Gas rewards are nice - I seem to get one every month (ex 10 cents off per gallon). They have some great safeway brand refrigerated items (white cheddar mac and cheese, beef tamales, etc). Great for a quick lunch or dinner side item. The online coupons are super convenient. Also has a redbox inside, yay! Cons: meat prices and selection is terrible. Meat counter items don't always look fresh either. Just avoid meat here :) I would recommend this Safeway! read more

I've recently started shopping this store again after about a 5 year absence. I've been very pleased with the quality and variety. When COVID19 first hit, I was so appreciative of their safety practices. This week it has all changed. Few customers were wearing masks, with full support of the establishment. They also allowed people to bring their own bags - a terribly unhygienic practice! Back to Trader Joe's I go and other grocery stores holding the line. read more

Ever since Albertsons and Safeway merged, this store has gone downhill. The clerks don't put your groceries in your basket anymore after check out - you are expected to do it. I am not asked if I would like help out - I have to ask them. Several times this summer I checked my receipt and was not given a discount that I should have been given. That meant more time standing in line to get it corrected. Every time I go to the store, I can't get through the aisles because clerks are restocking the shelves or people shopping for home delivery are blocking the way with their big carts. They don't carry the same brands that they used to, and many times they are out of stock on the shelves. The only reason I shop there is because it is convenient. read more

Very disappointed in the delivery service I requested Friday 3/6. When it was 20 minutes late I called Safeway Delivery to request an update on my delivery. On hold several minutes when a incoming call came in. It was Door Dash to tell me my order was lost. Got a sorry but that's it. Didn't know where it was, didn't offer to retrieve it for me and get it out asap, nothing. Never liked this store it is overpriced, gouging prices for delivery, 45 minute wait with Safeway Delivery and still didn't answer the call. Do I get a refund, will you make it right and bring it to me? We are not lazy, some have difficulty walking, driving or need a little help. I'll to a little farther and spend my money elsewhere. Website says open till 1 a.m . The door sign says open till 1 a.m But, twice once at 12:35 a.m and again at 12:40 I was not allowed in. They had the "in" door blocked with carts and the sensor turned off andbwere only allowing people already in the store to exit. read more

Shopping is best in the early morning. There aren't enough stores and this store is so crowded The checkers are usually friendly though today, the checker tells me I was in the wrong lane that it was the Express Lane. It wasn't marked anywhere that it is Express and I let him know. He apologized, it seems the employees should know by merely looking up at the lit sign, I did which is why I was in line. In addition, the Lucerne extra large eggs expire in 4 days but is full price. The ones on the shelf above 50% off, expire in 3 days. Watch for expiration dates! read more

Ok. I have NEVER reviewed a grocery store in my life. However, after sporadically shopping here over the past 20 years I since moved and it is the closest store to me. I hate that! If you are planning on shopping here, carve out 2-3X the amount of time you originally budgeted. This Safeway is the absolute slowest out of ANY grocery store I have ever been to, AND IT'S ALWAYS LIKE THAT. First, you have the King City contingent (70 or better) that flock in droves on buses from the nearby retirement homes so you need A LOT of patience just walking through the store. Everyone walks around like they plan on spending the next 8 hours here like it's an amusement park. Since the competing Albertsons (turned Haagen) ultimately closed, Safeway feels like they can charge whatever they want since the only, remotely close (to me anyway), store around is either Whole Foods or Trader Joe's (both of which are the most expensive stores at which you can shop). So much to say, but back to the slowness and the median shopper age being 55+. Remember the amusement park comment earlier? Yep, the theme continues with gusto once you try and check out. They NEVER have enough checkers and it doesn't matter what day or what time of day you go. The lines are excruciatingly long and, more often than not, the aging shopping populace are unable to count past 15. So if you think you can be in and out to pick up a few "quick" items for dinner, you thought wrong. I don't know how many times I have been in the "express" lane when the person or persons in front of me have a cart crammed with stuff. I'm not taking about people having one or two items more than they should or even a total of 20 items either. These people have enough in their cart to feed a small army. There are two types of express lane abusers: those that simply can't or are unwilling to do simple arithmetic and those who just don't care about signs, your time constraints or anything else in the world. The latter is typically a man in his 60s or 70s with a scowl on his face. He doesn't care what the sign says, assuming, he can read, and he's taking the path of least resistance regardless of any verbal or non-verbal cues you may serve up. This is the same guy who steals the newly opened register. When a new lane opens, the cashier will walk over to a nearby line, grab the person who is next to put their items on the belt and invite them over. The scowling man, three people deep and behind you, will simply choose to ignore the request and help himself to be first at the new express lane and drag his two full carts of groceries with him (remember he can't count or read, is angry at the world and is also apparently deaf because he didn't hear the cashier personally invite YOU to be first. Anyway, the "new and improved" computer system and card machines are so terrible and slow that even the cashiers complain about them to the customer. It also sounds like you are stealing something and law enforcement is being notified once your card is approved. The buzzer telling you to remove your card screams at you as if you did something wrong. So annoying. In closing, if you MUST shop here like me, bring one part patience, 4-5 parts blood pressure medication and a large bucket of time (not thyme). You will need all of that and more. This is for the delivery app: I spent one hour and forty seven minutes on the phone with customer service trying to update my address for an order I placed. Since it was my first order and I made the account earlier this year I didn't realize my old address was saved. So I go to place the order and notice that I can't update the address. I call in, on hold forever. Finally, the representative tells me to place the order so they can update the address. I place the order, they have trouble finding it. Finally find it and I'm put on hold for another forever. Representative comes back on the line and says the only way to update my address is by cancelling the order and then "simply reordering because that order will show in my passed orders". So I cancel the order. And of course -it's gone completely. The representative acted like "ohhh no big deal just go back and search/add the items again". Way too much for something that's supposed to be convenient. I did not go through with the order. Terrible first experience. I will never choose Safeway again. read more

I recently visited this location as I am new to the area. I've always shopped at Safeway and was excited to see one so close by. I stopped by on lunch break for a sandwich from the deli. There wasn't anyone behind the counter at the time so I began to wait. I could see a few employees back in the kitchen area. Another couple customer walked up as well. After a very brief wait, I made eye contact with a gal in the kitchen area who then walked up. She greeted the other customer standing next to me (no big deal) and asked who was first. I said I was and asked if I could order a sandwich. The girl didn't respond and kind of shook her head. Confused, I repeated myself and asked if she made the sandwiches or if she needed to get someone else. She continued to stare somewhat blankly at me and I said, "you make sandwiches correct?" She kind of smirked and under her breath said "no." I stood there silent, again very confused and she says, "just kidding," rolls her eyes and says "calm down." Apparently the look on my face reflected my patience waning. The calm down sent me over the edge and I asked to speak with her manager. She says nothing further to me, laughs and walks away to greet another customer waiting. About the time she walked away another employee walked around the corner looking as though she was beginning her shift. The individual previously helping me mumbles something to this new employee starting her shift. Ashley (the Deli Manager) very professionally introduces herself to me. I barely started to tell her the story when she started making me a sandwich. She was so kind and understanding about the situation. I offered to pay for my sandwich, but she wouldn't let me. My intent was not to receive free food. I truly wanted to provide feedback to improve customer service. read more

This is actually my first time going to this Safeway, and it was a great experience. Normally I go to the one in Beaverton, or the one in Sherwood but we decided to try this one cause we were at the Petco in the plaza. It was busy for a Tuesday evening, but everything was really clean and well organized. The gentleman that helped us check out was extremely helpful and friendly. We were buying a bunch of stuff and normally at the other stores the person checking us out looks pretty annoyed, but he was totally friendly. We have 4 kids so we end up with a bunch of stuff and he was really quick and kind and efficient. I'm not sure his position, but he could totally train people on how up be friendly and helpful! This is the most aggravating store. The parking lot is designed something awful and it takes foreverrrrrr to get out of the $&@$# one way exit. The cashiers would test Job's patience. SO distracted and slow. Usually only one cashier is available and then 10 people are in line just to get to an available self checkout. They are always out of anythIng that is on sale or the generic brand- for example...beans are on sale for $1 !!! Guess what? Shelf is EMPTY where $1 beans are supposed to be and the only beans they have in stock are $3.50 cans of beans. Every item in the store is 50 cents to 1-2 dollars more than any other local grocery store. The dairy products and vegan foods (we are a family of both vegans and omnis) are almost always expired or about to expire in 1-2 days. Their computer system goes down often and they will only accept cash. Seriously.... avoid this location if you have somewhere to be anytime soon because it will take 20 minutes to buy a pack of gum. read more

Love this store! Every employee is very friendly and always asks if you need any help. The store is fairly clean, but I have to say they don't keep their bathrooms very well stocked. I am not a huge fan of the rearrangement and new layout of my favorite items, but I'm sure I'll get used to it over time. This Safeway location is my primary shopping destination, mostly because it's near my house, has a decent selection of the staples and almost never has long lines (both at the checkout stand and in the individual departments). Though sometimes, I wish this store wasn't so convenient since there are other stores in the area I'd rather be shopping with. The produce department at this Safeway is rather lacking, both in quality of produce and selection. We can rarely find good bell peppers here and they don't have many fresh herbs or leafy greens I'm often looking for. Their poultry selection is also lacking and often quite depleted. There is also a particular checker at this store that we've had such awkward/bad experiences with that we will actually opt to wait in a longer line to avoid him. read more

All Natural chicken breasts usually on sale for a $1.99 big packs is a bonus. Little high on prices but for a quick jont it's location is key. Their brand of ice cream is really good too! I like this Safeway better than most. The produce is not always the best, flavorless and quick to go bad, but the staff are nice, and the store is very clean. Unfortunately, I had a bad experience in the deli. After being ignored while the clerk, who was wearing gray gloves, cleaned and wrapped up pieces of meat, I asked for a pound of sliced deli meat. She picked it up without changing her gloves. I asked if she should change the gloves. She said it wasn't necessary because she hadn't changed tasks. However, I saw her touch a bunch of things before helping me, any of which necessitated a glove change. I paid for the meat but after thinking about it I ended up throwing it away. read more

Pharmacy staff is unkind. I had to wait 45 minutes without either the pharmacy tech or the pharmacist to tell me that they are taking longer time to verify my insurance information for a flu shot which I only found out because I asked. The pharmacist saw me waiting when she gave a flu shot to another person but never said a word to me about why I am kept to wait more than 15 minutes the pharmacy tech told me in the beginning. Little courtesy would be appreciated rather than leaving a client waiting indefinitely. read more

I live in the neighborhood and usually shop at Trader Joes. But I have a house pet, and cook for her, so I'm always stopping in at Safeway in Tigard for items. This store has improved from what it was, and the recent upgrades are helpful. The tone of management and staff is that they will make an effort to help customers who they know, or who appear to be their kind of people. There is little respect for women and, sometimes, older people like myself. Many employees are entirely too busy and too involved with other employees, customer acquaintances, personal friends, family members and other individuals they deem worthy of professional attention, to pay attention to old women. Today, I went in and tried to purchase 4 items. I went to the self checkout but could not find my (hated) Safeway card. I have many, many cards, but not one was that stupid Safeway card. I went to customer service and waited about 10 minutes to speak to the representative there. She had shouted to me while I was in line that she could not check me out, but I stayed to get the items so that I wouldn't end up wasting my shopping time there. When I finally got to speak to the lady behind the counter, she told me if I wanted a Safeway card, I had to go online and apply. She was rude and dismissive. I said well, here are your groceries, you put them back. She then became very sarcastic (and stupid) and dismissed me as if I were somehow playing the system and should leave and not bother them. While Tigard Safeway appears to be proud of its working class image and blasts pathetic Country Western music through the store on occasion during the week, this store is obviously mismanaged and indulgent in its attempts to accomplish even average customer service. Get real, ladies and gentlemen, your value system which diminishes women, especially older ones (their main customer base), is bad business. Hopefully, another grocery chain will move in, since Safeway's monopoly in this area is creating a hostile and regressive environment which wastes customers' time and negates their dignity. I always take money when I shop, and that should be enough to purchase items in a reasonably pleasant manner. Employees seem to want to place obstacles in my way, I guess, because I'm an old lady and I don't frequent cowboy bars. read more

Have lived in King City for 6yrs. and find this store average and a bit low on the scale for produce and the deli section. I don't mind updating except where poles and other items have been removed and I tripped twice the other day....these raised areas have a bit of orange tape around them but you don't your basket and they are very dangerous...asked to speak to a manager but she was busy on a long checking line....an old person is going to break more than their wazoo..Safeway needs to be much more careful when making updates....this area has a high retired older population and my foot is still sore. read more
