This was such a great shopping trip for even just the customer service portion...shockingly so. Even better, two of the three people assisting were ... well, had disabilities. And, as someone with disability... we see each other and tend to be just more mindful of others and their needs. Able bodied folks many times go out of their way trying to help which, it is sweet but, it can also be a lot. I have had people endanger me because I am trying to move and just need to be mindful so I don't have an issue but they near jump on me offering help. First, they have mobility carts which are charged, not a nightmare to get to and work right! I had two customer orders and the second order was not working so I needed to reach out to customer service to get it cleared. Let's just say it was a lot, 3 people helped and we got it all fixed thanks to some great customer service from the clerks. They were so sweet and patient. I have had horrible stuff happen other places from a very easy to fix thing. This store also seemed way cleaner, more stocked and less of a mess to 'drive' around. No joke, stores are covered in things blocking aisles. read more

The staff at Safeway has always been friendly and courteous, which is something we take for granted too often. I recall how anxious and cranky we customers got during the pandemic, and yet we could count on the continuity of the staff to calm us, like one thing we could count on. When one cashier we were used to seeing retired after the worst of the pandemic, I realized how important they were to my sanity back then, and marveled that more employees hadn't quit and left us after our sometimes taking our angst out on them. The service people at all the places we expect to find them: gas stations, post office, banks, restaurants -- they are true heroes. The store is in a convenient location, is always clean, and reasonably stocked with brands I know. I don't understand The low ratings here, except angry people are more motivated to give a review, I suppose. read more

Considering this store is in an affluent Portland suburb, it really is not all that great. The store seems a couple of decades out of date on the inside, the prices are very high without the quality or selection, and they NEVER have enough checkers. If you love watching people roll their eyes and sigh this is the grocery store for you. The absolute worst check out situation. The poor cashiers are always running around trying to check people out as fast as possible. There is always at least one broken self checkout, as well and no one there to assist the self checkouts because that cashier is also checking people out. Would you say under staffed? No, because someone is always sitting behind the Starbucks and floral counter looking bored. Perhaps management could take a class on cross training employees. read more

This is an okay Safeway- I am a big fan of the exterior, which appears to be an original 1960's location that has been remodeled. It is a very small store- it felt very cramped and wasn't as well stocked as some of the others I have been to in the area. They were out of about half of the items I needed, though to be fair, they were on sale and likely just sold out. Not the store's fault necessarily. There are only two self checkout lanes, so I went to a regular checkout lane because I had a cart full of stuff. The lady helping me was very friendly and accommodating, and even gave me a small discount on greens that I had purchased. Definitely great customer service. The parking lot is kind of cramped, and the location is decent especially if you live in Downtown Lake Oswego. I wouldn't go out of my way to come to this store- I only stopped on the way home one day from running errands. read more

This location absolutely sucks. I've never spent less than 10 minutes in line here. It's just irritating they charge an arm and leg for items and then understaff the place. Also the deli food is just old and stale usually. Unfortunately it's also right next to the transit center so it's the most 'convenient' place to get a snack while passing through. Bruce B was the most unfriendly and rude cashier, I think that I have ever met. He did not greet us or say anything to us during this entire transaction. When he was done ringing me up, he took the next person's flowers and pulled them forward as though they were mine. Commented "Those are not mine" and he did not respond. I again clarified that the flowers did not belong to me to ensure that I was not charged for them, and he simply responded "yeah". No "Thank you" or "Have a nice day" or anything as we left. This store is consistently in stock on most things, even during the pandemic, well staffed with friendly and helpful associates, and has plenty of checkouts open at almost all times. Sure prices might be a smidge higher than the wincos and Walmarts of the world but if you're eating a diet that includes fresh produce and fresh meats, your getting a higher grade here, and it's well worth it. read more

This is probably the worst Safeway I have ever been to. Heed the prior reviews and complaints. The only reason I ever go here now is because it's open late and close to where I live. One of the checkers is a motormouth that holds up his own line right before closing time, chatting excessively while everyone just wants to get out and get home. Seriously, wtf? It's 30 min before closing and he's chatting up a storm with anyone who will listen. And then there is the angry butch lesbian who may or may not be the assistant manager. I tried to say hello and be cordial, but she wasn't having it. I don't know who wronged her, but she is not socially equipped to be in any sort of customer service position. She gives off a very hostile vibe. Where do they get these people?! Also, there are no self checkouts here, and they usually only have one lane open. I am sad that this Safeway cannot do better considering the location. The aisles are narrow and it doesn't help to have mini displays blocking them up making it difficult to pass. Thumbs down on any of the meat and fish; not fresh or good looking. Produce is hit or miss. Signage could be better and I still find that I have to hunt for things. What bothers me the most about this store are the cashiers. In my personal experience the female cashiers are ok but a few of the males are having some issues. I hate to say it (oh no it is 2018) but, there is some prejudice going on. I refuse to stand in those cashier lines now even if they are short because of the bad behavior both I and my husband have had to deal with. It's disgusting and as longtime resident of LO I am tired of this. We have enough issues in our schools with discrimination and here we also have it in our grocery store. Over at 365 there is nice diversity of staff and it reflects in how they treat their customers. I am embarrassed to say that I hate shopping at Safeway in general but sometimes I have to. Safeway, your cashiers need training in behaving themselves and treating each customer equally regardless of race. I walked in to Safeway with some doubt but figured what the hell! Stephanie listened to my situation and easily and swiftly created a cake with pre-made 8" rounds she had in the back! I was just at the Lake Oswego Safeway. The employees there are helpful, but usually working at a frantic pace. It seems at this particular store, they seem to have too much to handle & are short-staffed (e.g., usually the cashier who is closest to the self-checkout area is not only operating her cash register, but also operating the self-checkout machines!). While at the Meat Dept., I saw a great deal on Red Hat Ranch Angus Patties, six 1/3 lb. patties, for $6.99 (or poss. $6.98) a pkg., the only catch being they were flavored with "bacon." Unfortunately, what was above the sale label were just regular Red Hat Ranch Angus Patties (no bacon). I never see anyone at the customer service desk, and the one cashier in the mornings is usually very busy, so I ended up asking the one meat dept. guy about the sale. He had his head down hard at work, but then realized he had to stop what he was doing, and he kindly came out to see what I was talking about -- did the $6.99 sale price also apply to the regular Red Hat Ranch Angus Patties/no "bacon"? He read the sale label, saw what was actually in that spot above the label, and said "we must be out of those patties." He then said that, because what was there were still Red Hat Ranch Angus Patties, they would also only be $6.99 ea. I asked him if he was sure, and he said yes, as it's the same company. I ran all my items through self-checkout. That one cashier had a moment to look up to see that my register light was blinking due to my bottle of wine. She came over as quickly as she could, pulled up a screen where I could enter my birthdate, and she's telling me while she's walking back to her cash register, "Just put in your birthdate and hit enter." While finishing up, a customer was actually standing right next to me as they waited to be the next person at that self-checkout register. This caused me to hurry. I quickly paid with my bank card and left the store. While at home and unpacking my groceries, I looked at the store receipt and saw that I paid $21.98 for the two boxes of Red Hat Ranch patties. I called the store and, after I explained what happened to me, the lady that answered said the store would honor any of their sale prices. She was nice, but not too interested in what happened to me at that store. It seemed this something she was too used to hearing. Am I one of a few, or am I one of many, customers who keep getting ripped off by Safeway's so-called "discounted" or "digitally" marked prices? Usually when I scan the bar code on a digital sale item, when it's ran through any register, it always comes up at the more expensive price (never the really low "digital" sale price). I do feel Safeway has excellent employees at both the West Linn and Lake Oswego stores. I know Safeway has been negatively affected by this strange "too many openings and not enough workers" work atmosphere and I do believe the employees/managers are doing the best that they can. But the sales and digital price problems that always end up in Safeway's favor and not in the customer's favor, there's something wrong there, and this has been happening to me for years now. I've lived in West Linn and now in Lake Oswego, and Safeway used to be my favorite grocery store in the area. read more

Instead of a one-star rating and an "Eek! Methinks not." Yelp should have a NO-STAR rating and a "WHAT THE F???" This is the only place I have ever seen a husband and wife duo wearing his and her full-length fur mink fur coats. So, swanky..... You are practically shoulder-to-shoulder with everyone shopping there. Close quarters would be an understatement. And then, there are displays friggin' everywhere! If you are the least bit claustrophobic, this is not the store for you. The customers are BEYOND BRUTAL to the poor people who are unfortunate enough to work in the pharmacy. I don't know what they did in their past lives to deserve that job, in that location, but I feel deeply sorry for them. The only exception to my following statement is when the pharmacy is closed. Every time I go in there, some pharmacy tech or pharmacist in just being verbally throttled. It is embarrassing for me as a shopper and shameful to see people treated that way in public. I have literally seen less brutality watching 10-year-olds playing Whack-a-mole for prizes while tweaked crosseyed on birthday cake! It is not a good scene, people. It was so bad, I switched to a different location for my prescriptions, now. Checkout lanes are so slow and irritating. Management is sub-par by Taco Bell standards. If you say anything to them, they complain to you that they are sick of hearing all the complaining. The baggers are only nice once. Don't tip? Those people go out of their way to make your next experience and every experience after, dreadful. There is one 'career bagger' there who should not, in any way, be dealing with the public. He has issues and thinks this store is his personal playground for harassing people. I suspect he has a box full of puppies he goes home to kick every night. This place may, in fact, be possessed by evil spirits. My actual rating is 0 Star--WHAT THE F??? And, I'm sticking to it. read more

I don't work there. I don't know anyone who does, so this review is as honest as it gets. Bottom line......This Pharmacy is great. They have to work in a small section of the store, and they are really busy this time of the year. Went in for a FLU Shot, and was greeted and processed quickly and efficiently. I've always found this Safeway to be efficient and the staff nice. I like the 'Marina' style roof and appreciate this store's been well maintained over the years. Being a smaller store, you sometimes have to look in unexpected places for items, but I've not had issues. Since their merger with Albertsons, I keep seeing more and more of the short term thinking and random low quality features of Albertsons affecting this store. Long term staff laid off and replaced with a rotating cast of sad irregulars. Crappy paprika seasoned meat sold as BOGO in the front door. Basic product shortages while permutations fill the shelves. Tip: Current as of 3/24/21, This Lake Oswego, 97034 Safeway location does not fall within any of the bottle return station zones, and they have not implemented bottle bag drop facility, this is one of the fewer full size grocery stores in the greater Portland area that anyone is entitled to bring in any empty bottles that have deposit and walk out with cash on the spot. You're entitled to redeeming up to144 containers, which is $14.40 per day. Don't go by what the staff says, they're required by law to accept them. If you experience a hard time, call Oregon Bottle Bill compliance people at OLCC whose contact you can easily find on Google. With fewer and fewer places where travelers and housing challenged people can get cash right away for cans, it's useful to know. read more

I was in Safeway on Ave A in Lake Oswego before 1pm on Oct 8, in the produce department, when a open bag of loose leaf lettuce fell to the floor. I watched, horrified, as an employee picked up the lettuce, put it back on the shelf, then proceeded to touch and rearrange all the other open bags of lettuce - all while wearing No safety gloves. I truly hope this isn't standard practice at Safeway, with no regard for sanitation and cleanliness! read more

Overheard the checker at the checkout stand say, "we are always understaffed. Our manager is always trying to cut labor." So I started this review in the same frustrated state I always experience when visiting this grocery store. I was set to give it a single star but have upgraded it a 3, only because of the proximity to my house and the wine department. The wine dept is simply AMAZING, and the cheese isn't too bad either, especially when you consider that they have the WORST produce I have ever seen. I simply don't get it. There are 3 grocery stores, count them...3, literally within stumbling distance of my house and all 3 have horrible produce. Ok, I'm over this review. 8/7/21: This pharmacy staff is SO rude. I made an online appointment for my son to get vaccinated. We drove 20 minutes because the closer stores appointments were full. I printed the consent form that was required and had the emailed appointment confirmation. The pharmacy contact was a total jerk, said he required photo ID for my minor son. That requirement was not listed online or on my confirmation. He said I should have a passport or have thought to bring ID because people scam to get vaccines. Huh? It's a free vaccine, they haven't been in school in two years to get school ID's... and it didn't say to bring ID! Super rude. Terrible customer service. read more

This Safeway consistently bothers me. They don't carry many generic products that other Safeway locations carry. The checkout lines are always ridiculously long, and the staff is not as helpful as they could. But there is one thing I absolutely love about this location: the Chinese food. That is damn delicious. If there was a no star that's what this store would be. It's a shame that this is such an awful store because it's very convenient for those of us who live in LO. Every time I go in there I say I'm never going back, but due to location I occasionally go in there and then regret it. For the most part the clerks are rude and will go so far as to complain to each other while you're standing there. The deli counter is a joke. There is usually one person making sandwiches during the lunch hour, that is if you get them to wait on you. I ended up walking away today with no lunch because no one would wait on me! The prices are high and the produce seems old. Safeway if you're checking your reviews, I will not be back. I will gladly drive a few more miles to avoid your store. I went in at 6:15am to grab a breakfast burrito from the deli. When I approached the deli counter a young woman named "Rebecca" had just finished wrapping 5 of them up. She was talking over the counter to another employee while she was doing it. I said "oh hey, can I grab one of those" (they didn't have any out on the floor yet). She started to hand me one, when I said "Oh wait, is it bacon?" she said "no they are sausage". I told her I would wait for one with bacon. Without acknowledging me, she slammed down the ones she had in her hands, walked over to the printer and started printing price stickers. Okay fine. She came back over, put a bunch of stickers on the counter, put a sticker on the bacon breakfast burrito (she already had made up) and I asked if I could also grab some taco sauce packets- this sent her over the edge......she VERY aggressively slammed the burrito onto the counter at me and walked the 5 steps to grab me taco sauce. I let her know it was rude to slam the food on the counter and she got an even bigger attitude and said "you're welcome." At that point, I let her know I would be talking to her superior about her attitude and I still intend too. I was not rude or unfriendly to her. Why would she be so rude and unkind to me? I frequent this deli often for deli meats, dinner salads, etc. The people that wait on me in the afternoon/evening are lovely. For some reason, the morning staff aren't so nice, but today was by far the worst I have encountered. I know they must have a big workload preparing food for the day, but no need to be so nasty. Isn't it their job to work the deli counter? EDIT: I just spoke to the manager, Spencer, who was VERY VERY KIND and assured me he would be talking to the deli staff about this. I don't know if Rebecca was just having a bad day and I hate to get anyone in trouble, but I couldn't not say anything, as Rebecca was very out of line. THANK YOU SPENCER! Also, I have frequented this store almost daily for the last 5yrs and have NEVER had staff treat me badly like this before. Overall, this is a good store, the staff are typically really nice, even when the store is packed/busy. Because of Spencer, I am raising this experience from one star to three. read more
