We were shopping at the bakery section for Cheese Jalapeño Bagels. There were not much left spoke to staff at the bakery who noted to come back tomorrow there will be more. Good produce and vegetable section. Lots of sale items. It's fun shopping here. Aisles are wide and clear. Lots of prepared foods too. Will be back again. Terrible customer service desk and return policy. I accidentally purchased the wrong item. I noticed it during checkout and went directly to customer service with the unopened item and my receipt. The customer service woman refused to return it and stated that it was a management policy. I reached out to WinCo online and they told me to call the store manager. At this point I am frustrated, I don't need more pain in my life. Unfortunately employee owned doesn't mean good customer service. read more

There are three major grocery chains here. Or maybe four if you count Wally World. I've done price comparisons and Winco seems to be winning the price battle. I like to save every penny I can and shopping here allows me to save on the odds and ends in smaller packages. The meat department is cheaper than most stores I've seen. The vegetables are typically a grade lower than some other stores, but the price reflects it. Great prices!!! The store is a self help style store. Bag your on groceries. The prices are definitely cheaper here on a majority of items than a Walmart or Freddies. I like that most of the time, all items on my grocery list can be found here (even step stool, trash can, or laundry basket). WinCo is the only food chain that I know of that has a special strawberry sour belt candy, which they sell scoops per pound. It used to be called "Razz Ma Tazz" sour belts, but they manufacturer discontinued distributing it. I was glad to find it at this location. There are some things WinCo can improve on, such as the fact that there aren't any weekly ads to look at before going into the store. It would make things so much easier if they just posted one online so I can plan ahead. Instead, I go into each shopping experience not knowing what I'm going to save. I'm sure it's part of their advertising team's goal to have customers journey through the stores to find deals rather than giving it all to them at home. However, there are online coupons, but you have to create an account and "add it" so it's linked to your phone number. But don't think you can just add coupons to your account while shopping because it takes at least 30 mins for them to become linked to your phone number. Also, the fruit and vegetables section could use some TLC since a lot of customers leave products out of place. The grapes bags are always open and you can tell they were picked out already by others. You'd have to go during a time when they just restocked fruits to assure yourself that no one has touched it. But when they are in fresh condition, the prices are great to buy. read more

Not for me! Stopped here on Good Friday seeking fresh strawberries, blackberries and Angel Food cake to make a trifle. The strawberries looked bad and the tiny pack of blueberries was $2.99 and at that size, I would have needed 5 containers. To get near the produce was a challenge with boxes and boxes of unpacked produce lined up in all the aisles and tons of people pushing their carts - it was like being in rush hour traffic. Passed on all the items I needed, but since I was already there, decided to do a walk through the massive store. Once out of the "healthy" produce aisle I was pretty much on my own. Yes, this store is huge. And yes, they have lots and lots of groceries at lower prices, but they seem to cater to those who eat processed foods, chips, soda, candy and baked goods. Even their meat department had lots of processed meats (hot dogs, cold cuts.) their premade meals were heavy in fats and carbs. There was a fresh seafood cart over by the produce where an employee weighs out shrimp and other seafood, but frankly, I wasn't trusting it. The price of their canned items was same as Trader Joe's and I find it much easier to navigate Traders than to go to this massive store and have to walk down long aisles to grab pantry items. Checked out the bakery department but they didn't have an Angel Food cake. In the produce area they had Angel Food loaves, but they didn't look light and airy like Angel Food cake should be. Most of the bakery items were the jumbo muffins and calorie dense, high fat and sugar items. For those that prefer size over quality. Ended up buying an English cucumber for 99 cents, which would have been $2.99 elsewhere, and two limes. That's it! Thankfully I had a $5 bill tucked in my smartphone case as I never carry cash or a debit card. They only take cash or debit card. Every store has their demographics, the niche they target. Winco, especially this ginormous location, just doesn't work for me. I prefer to shop at smaller stores that have lots of healthy food items, and would rather go a few times a week to buy fresh rather than stock up on processed foods. Definitely can find value in there Employee Corporate Ownership business model, but, the essence of some of there newer immigrant like employees after over twenty years of regular patronage needs reflection, and understanding! I was delighted in finding a real thin crust pizza when other local pizzerias fail in the like, but, when one of my toppings ended up missing and only seeking a simple fix in a measure of an additional topping was met with attitude I cry foul, and say DO BETTER! I ordered a Pizza over the phone at their Pizza place inside the store. However when I went to pick it up, there was an extremely long wait for someone to help. Another customer who was also waiting just gave up and left. When I finally was going to pay for it using my debit card, their machine was not working for reading chips on debit cards. The employee acknowledged that this was a problem for awhile, but it was never fixed. I asked a manager who happened to be passing by, who reacted in an extremely rude and unprofessional manner, as if I was being unreasonable for letting him know and asking for help. Finally I gave up because it clearly was broken, and tried to pay at the Customer service desk. Heide who happened to be there, did help, but was also extremely rude and acted like it was a major deal over paying for a pizza with her instead of the pizza place. Don't give them your business if you want to be treated like an idiot and be blamed for their failure to maintain basic equipment like a card reader. read more

I shop at this location at least 3 times a week. A great place to get daily necessities. It's fairly convenience due to its close proximity to my residence. I can always find what I need here. I love buying nuts, couscous, flour, basmati rice, etc in bulks!! They also have good selection of raw honey. Their produce and fruits are always fresh. Beer selection is great here too. Lots of locals and specialty beers to choose from. They don't carry clothing and their cosmetics, ready made food selection are limited but that's ok by me. I love Winco! I ventured out all the way to Winco. I was 2 blocks from Freddy's... But would have spent $50 @ Freddy's or Safeway. I walk instead of riding the electric carts. By the time I walked the whole circumference inside the store, I had waaaay too much stuff I wanted but perhaps didn't need it. I was tired and about to collapse. But got sodas Coke zero for me (I know it's bad, but I'm addicted) and Pepsi zero for my hubby because that's all he wanted from the store. Most stores sell them for over $5 or you have to buy 4 to get them for $2.99 which is ridiculous. I've been craving milk... my crooked foot needs some calcium goodness... so happy to have paid $2.25 for excellent 3%, super creamy, yum! I splurge on corn and cotija cheese, because on Sundays right after church the Mexican ladies have their cart right outside the church, with grilled corn. One corn for $6, is steep! So it's best to go to get the surplus supplies at Winco, at $.38 per corn and cotija at $4.48. I can get 10 corns for like $5, or around that amount, and share with my family. It's cheaper to buy the bulk and enjoy it at home with a nice fine cut steak. I only cane for the hot dogs buns & sausages, and tomatoes. But I'm craving the banana vegan ice cream I been making. And of course, the delicious cheese for the pupusas. I spend a total of $23.60 and I didn't go over board. I'm so proud of myself!! I only took $30 with me. Yeah for Winco!!! So, I like to buy a little at a time, $20 bucks here, $30 bucks there------and it's great, because prices are inexpensive, merchandise is quality for packaged goods, and you can get in and outta here as fast as you want. I shopped here a long time ago, but had to race in to avoid the crowds and lines, now I am in control. I love U-SCANS and SELF CHECKOUTS! No forced conversation with the checker-----I am moody, so that can be a problem. Beer prices are cheap. This review is long overdue. We make it in hear on average about every 6 weeks. More in the winter when the weather is bad we stock up double. So we don't have to go out as much. We tend to stay in an hibernate for the winter and work on Art projects. This store is huge! To see everything and shop at a leisurely pace takes about 1-1.5 hours. The selection of Organic produce and Organic packaged items is increasing with the rising demand. They have a good bit here. Much more than when we first started shopping here in 2008. As what another reviewer wrote; They don't take credit cards so keep that in mind before you plan your shopping trip. I love the selection of the bulk items. So many different kinds of items. Some I have never tried before and have become a huge fan. Such as Forbidden black rice. Outstanding. I also enjoy some of the other exotic red rices as well. We like it and will con't to shop here about every 6 weeks on our rotation of grocery stores. If variety is the spice of life, wincos spice selection and prices can't be beat! read more

Winco has the vast majority of products that other stores do, often the exact same brands for 20-40% difference in price-even organic produce. But it's not quite as pretty as say, a Whole Foods, Zupans or New Seasons. My aesthetic sense however, is not quite as important as savings. read more

I think I found my main grocery store! It reminds me of Smart & Final after they turned the restaurant supply store into more of a consumer store. Prices here at WinCo are great! The kiddo's Eggo waffles are $3.29 for a box of 10 at Safeway, but only $1.98 for a box of 24 at WinCo? That's a no-brainer. I will do what I did in Cali; shop 3 places for the best of each. WinCo for staples, farmer's markets for produce, and ???? for high-quality meats. Haven't figured out the meat store yet...I've only lived here 2 weeks. They had a very wide selection of foods - I walked the aisles and found nearly all the brands I normally buy, and was encouraged to see a wide selection of hispanic and Asian foods. The bulk bins just went on and on and on... I think some of the bins may not turn over that fast, as a few items I bought seemed a bit stale. Produce - prices were good and they had a lot, but I will go with the other reviewers and steer clear; quality is suspect. Minus 1 star for not taking credit cards and having to bag your own groceries. Adding a half-star (which you can't see up there) for friendly employees and no line at the checkout! read more

Came in on Saturday evening and thought it would be crowded, but to my surprise it wasn't bad at all! Great prices and had one more thing on my list...club soda, which I could not find. I was going to check out my items and buy the club soda elsewhere but saw an employee at a desk and asked her. My girlfriend and I went in to complete our weekly shopping at this Winco. Now it was a busy Saturday, so this store was jam packed full of carts and customers. We decided to ring up our items through the Uscan Self service system because we thought it would be faster and more convenient. At the need of the transaction we had only 1 coupon we wanted to apply to the purchase. We looked over to the Self-checkout attendant, Mike, to help us out with this coupon, since we didn't know the procedure to apply this discount. He instantly shook his head no, like we were greatly disturbing him from his sitting position by the main terminal. I then personally walked up to him and explained I had a coupon to apply and if he could help us out. He mumbled some incoherent statements that I could barely understand. What I got out of it was to go back to the main screen to apply the coupon there. I followed these vague instructions and still couldn't figure it out. I looked over again to where he was camped out and told him if he could come over to our terminal to help us out. He again refused, proceeded to yell across the frantic store on how to do it. It took my girlfriend and i walking again to where he was sedentary to try to get the coupon to work. He angrily got up from his perch to mumble more indescribable words and scanned the coupon for us. Mike was extremely unhelpful, rude, and unfriendly. The exact opposite of what good customer service should be. I get it, the store is chaos on a sunny Saturday morning. That doesn't give you the right to treat your customers which such disdain and disregard. I highly recommend shopping at another Winco for your grocery needs. read more

I went to this WinCo a long time ago with my family and we considered it to be a big store with conveniently wide collections of goods. It was fun to explore around and get shopping done. However, what turned this shopping experience into a ginormous letdown was how they make you bag your own groceries. Even worse yet, I noticed a couple of employees snigger at me, which was a big put down. Seriously? What kind of retail store does any of that? You call that good customer service? From all of my shopping experiences at other stores, employees would go well out of their way to make customers feel as valued as possible. I never went back and I never will. Do yourself a favor and give this place a skip. There are so many retail outlets that are far more worthy of your time and money. read more

When I first moved back to Oregon, I was amazed by the low cost of groceries. After 12 years of living in San Francisco, the last 8 of which were spent in posh Noe Valley, I'd grown accustomed to spending top dollar to feed the family. Even though I'd been knocked from my "fancy lady" throne well before the recession, I'd still grown accustomed to the convenience, quality, and aesthetic appeal of high-end grocers like Whole Foods. Sure, we didn't buy all our food there, preferring to support the locally-owned corner grocer, but it sure did feel nice to load up on flawless organic produce, herb-studded cheeses, and meat from free-roaming beasts. Rainbow was great, too, but we couldn't walk there & they don't sell meat. Grocery shopping was more of an event than a chore. Judge me if you will, but I know very few San Franciscans who don't make eating organic, local foods a top priority - even 20-year-olds living 6 people to a two-bedroom apartment. Things are very different in Oregon. There is still a huge appreciation for organic & sustainable foods, but most people have gardens, and many grow their own produce. An artist girlfriend in Portland told me that last year she ate nothing she didn't grow herself or acquire through barter. Old habits die hard, and my first major grocery shopping trip in Oregon was to the New Seasons in Beaverton. I was amazed that I'd filled my basket for about 3/4 the cost of what we would've spent in San Francisco. When I told my Oregonian friends about the amazing low prices at the New Seasons, they all laughed at me. NOBODY buys all their groceries there, they assured me. Next week I discovered Lamb's. I couldn't believe our luck - walking distance to our house, small selection of organic foods, all the basics & more. Plus, everyone was super friendly and prices were even lower than the New Seasons. Again, I told my Oregonian friends about this "amazing" new discovery. Again, they laughed at my ignorance. NOBODY buys all their groceries at the Lamb's, they assured me. Enter: WinCo. Basically, it's like CostCo without the appliances, toys & clothing, only you don't have to buy in bulk. The organic Washington apples may be a little on the small side, you have to bag your own groceries - but the store is clean, the workers friendly, and the selection is good enough to satisfy the pickiest of former Noe Valley yuppies. When I got to the checkout and the cashier gave my total, I literally had tears in my eyes. Soon as I got home, I bragged to my Oregonian friends that I'd found THE MOST AMAZING place to shop. This, they assured me, is where the locals go for groceries. Now I get it! This review is, of course, not for the locals. This is for my friends back home in California. This is the kind of grocery store you go to when it's 11pm and you look inside your fridge and realize you're in serious need of some food. This is not the kind of grocery store you go to when it's a weekend, or after 4pm. In the words of Jimmy McMillan, the amount of screaming children is TOO DAMN HIGH. I made the mistake of coming here on a Sunday in the afternoon. I knew better. I did it anyway, thinking I was a strong-willed individual. Don't ever think that. Ever. The Dalai Lama himself doesn't have the zen required to be able to come out of a Sunday experience at WinCo without wanting to either create mass genocide or just sit in the corner and rock back and forth. With that said, the prices are actually pretty decent when you're on a budget. I prefer Trader Joe's, but sometimes the wallet just gives me the middle finger and I have to make do. WinCo to me is super old hat. I've been shopping at various WinCo's in Oregon since my bored teenaged-dom in Southern Oregon. It is evident that some of these bargain stores are better than others. Relatively clean - nice. Decent selection of produce that wasn't totally rotten - even better. I'm always weary of buying produce from WinCo because it's usually pretty sketch, but so far so good. Even the bagged salad mix was decently priced. Bulk foods are great, but they add up. You think, "Oh, I'm saving so much money on these dried cranberries!" because you're not even buying a pound...but then all the other great bulk deals get you and you've spent $30 on bulk stuff. Whoops. The meat counter and deli are good deals - we got a pount of Jennie-O Turkey breast for about $6. Then I found found a pound of Havarti for $3 - which is half of the price it is elsewhere! I was excited because Havarti is my favorite for making sandwiches. But the Organic milk was almost $5 for pint. Boo. The rest of the milk was some store labeled brand I've never heard of and I'm not a fan of gallons of milk in clear plastic jugs - they go bad fast. Made me annoyed that I went to WinCo instead of Safeway or Fred Meyers where the milk is cheaper and often local. I'll fully admit I'm a grocery store snob. I like to do my regular shopping at Safeway foremost, and Fred Meyers secondary. I find shopping at even the old and decrepit Grocery Outlets more appealing than shopping at WinCo (but I'll just go to the nice Hollywood Grocery Outlet instead). But for being relatively hidden, this WinCo isn't as crazy are others in the area. I'd be inclined to return for more late-evening grocery runs. read more

Winco is for those who grocery shop like they mean it. You will have navigate a large store, and possibly crowds, but if you're going to be buying 2-3 weeks worth of groceries, it is completely worth it. You'll save quite a bit of money, and I strongly feel that the selection in the bulk department can't be beat. If you are looking to cook gluten free, or are allergic to specific kinds of flour, the are many flour alternatives in the bulk section. Some of them are organic. I highly recommend grinding your own almond butter at their machine. Winco almond butter on apples can't be beat. They also have plain coconut shavings that can be blended down in a vitamix to make coconut butter, much much cheaper than it can be purchased by the jar. Organic quinoa? Find it here. They also sell Jelly Bellys in bulk separated by flavor. Read the labels on the various bulk items for a short description. Tear of recipe suggestions are always placed in near the bulk foods. It doesn't get better than Winco in terms of selection and price. read more
