When busy, they have a ticket system and you're barely waiting long. Everyone behind the meat counter is ready to help. Space is a little tight to maneuver but very manageable. The best part is coming to the seafood section and not smelling the coast. They keep the space very tidy and clean. This is officially my new meat market for sure!

That said, given they are a small independent shop, you will pay more for some staples, and you will pay more for higher quality items; you won't have the same selection of produce as a 60,000 sqft grocery chain. All of this, though, is fairly obvious when you walk in. Tony's is focused on quality over quantity.

Over the previous two years or so, Las Huertas went slowly but steadily downhill - the shelves were progressively more bare, the fruit and vegetable selection tapered off, and the variety of available meat was steadily reduced. That steady decline has been reversed by the new ownership, and Carniceria la Tapatia is better than ever! Full display cases of delicious meats and seafood, queso fresco and other south of the border delicacies. Lots of hard-to-find* salsas, hot sauces and canned goods. The shelves are full of staples again, and the racks are filled with fresh tortillas, cookies, fruit, beans, vegetables and other delicious fare. If you stopped going to Las Huertas during its final months, it is now time to return. * - Hard-to-find in south metro Denver, that is.
