Had my jeep fenders blasted and coated. They did great work. Took approximately 1 1/2 weeks. Fenders look like new. Price was fair-ish. They aren't the most expensive, but not the cheapest either. That is, I later found a place that would have the same job for a 1/3 of what I paid. You live and learn. Kyle at Safeway did an awesome job on some vintage metal screen frames for me. It was a time-consuming tricky job. Took a while, but price and quality of work was great, and Kyle even dropped the screens off at the re-screening store for me. Would definitely recommend and will use again. Their customer service is the worst, I went there today, to drop off a part to be blasted and powered coating. I got there and their gates were closed so, I called and the woman answered, I asked her are you not open today? She said we are but we only see people by appointment. I said I drove over here from Santa Monica, I have only one part, can't you make an exception. She said no sorry, I asked can I get a appointment? She replied were all booked up. I was so mad I said i will never use you guys again. I went down the street to Kartek, they charge more, but they were close friendly and welcoming, I've used Safeway for all my blasting and powdercoating needs and sent many people to them, but as of today I will never use or recommend them again. I'm so glad I found this place. They were able to powder coat a heater cover and vent for me. The piece I brought was covered in layers of house paint. Because the pieces were too fragile for sandblasting, they took my piece to the OC for a chemical bath. I got both pieces back for an amazing price. I honestly expected to pay double what they quoted. My only "complaint" is that their communication is not great. You'll have to be comfortable with a "handshake" deal. They did not issue me any sort of receipt when they took my items and it took me several emails to get them to acknowledge that they had them. They also could not give me an estimate of when my pieces would be complete as their truck needed to be fixed and then someone needed to go to OC and then they needed to finish a large project they were working on before they could get to me. I couldn't get any sort of timetable. Ultimately, the project took approximately 3 weeks (very much within my needs), the end result is beautiful and it was well worth the price. They were not the cheapest but definitely great for the money and execution. They identified problems I couldn't see before the sandblasting. Nope can't take requests via phone, email us. Within 5 minutes I had my email off to them. Seventy minutes later, "please send photos". Within 5 minutes I has sent, via email, photos. The people at Safeway answered all my (surely) inane questions with aplomb and grace. They also gave me some good tips on tracking down the color I wanted. Plus I have better things to do with my time than Yelp about every encounter like my opinion matters...even though it does- A LOT. As for Safeway and their ENTIRE team, I can't say enough good things. I bought a new tank for my Harley and needed it powder coated. I could have gone many other places but you never know what you're going to get. These guys not only sand blasted it but they made sure everything was even and looked clean before they painted it. They even pointed out things that may not look great with the particular paint I wanted so there wouldn't be any bad surprises. Managing expectation is key. The only surprise I had was how amazing it looked and how fair the price was. They even turned in around in less than a week AND THEN they found an issue with the paint that wasn't up to their standards so they redid it- twice! That is what I call commitment to quality. They rushed it through in two days and I couldn't be more happy with how it turned out. They stood by their work and held it to a high standard that they wouldn't compromise on despite it costing them more money to do so. THAT my friends is rare in this type of business. WOW! Brought in a vintage frame to a bicycle that I'm restoring. I was just going to have it sandblasted and paint it myself, but decided to have Safeway powdercoat it as well. What more can I say! Kyle and his company do amazing work! I had brought over two iron cast park bench legs which were woefully oxidized and needed to be cleaned and scrubbed before I can spray. At home, the only materials available are vinegar, denatured alcohol, acetone, and some other rust off solvents. I even resorted to a vinegar/baking soda mix which kind of worked but the scale still remained. I was recommended to try Safeway Sandblaster and I'm extremely glad I did! I called Kyle up at the number this morning and he was polite and gave me a very reasonable quote. To be honest, I was a bit skeptical of whether or not he can really clean. Regardless, I drove over to his shop. His shop is located in an industrial part of Culver City and is pretty unassuming except for his shop logo. I brought in the iron legs and he said he'd call me after they were done. CUT TO: A few hours later... I received a call from Kyle around 3:15 ish saying they were ready. I dropped by around 4:20 ish and I was absolutely astonished at the sheer detail of the sand blast. I barely recognized the pieces. He even cleaned it a bit more by blasting the sanded pieces with compressed air and helped me load my truck. Definitely an excellent establishment where the work is done very professionally and with courtesy. I look forward to using their services with other metal works in the very near future.
