Love the habinaro chicken and salad here but some elderly manager woman and the store manager older man with Grey hair and beard where extremely rude to my sister when she went to grab an extra plastic bag from the donation barrel by the front door. I only shop here when I have no other choice due to a history of bad interactions with very rude cashiers. Combined with Safeway's unjustifiably high prices, I just can't see myself choosing this Safeway over the Family Fare across the street. The last time I shopped here some of my purchased items fell out through a hole in a defective shopping bag. The employees struggled to clean it up due to a lack of the dry cleaning agent they needed to clean up a spill. They acted very irritated with me while I waited to see if they would replace the items I lost due to the defective shopping bag, but only helped after I started complaining about it. Rude comments about my family members' "ethnic" sounding names by cashiers has been icing on the cake. Employees need to be retrained about dealing with the public, but it seems as though this Safeway has a massive problem retaining them. Even on very busy days only a few registers are open, and lines are long as a result. read more

It's pretty typical as far as Safeways go, but do not order fresh fruits and vegetables from here. They always give you the most rotten, unusable ones. I have to request a refund on nearly every produce item I buy from here. I thought I was just unlucky but a friend overheard two employees talking about it while they were packing an order (one actually told another to grab the worst item.) Safeway is one of the many brands owned by Albertson's and in every state where I've visited and shopped the various Albertson's brand stores (perhaps they should be labeled "sores"), I have never ceased to be amazed at how OBSCENELY overpriced they are. I live in NJ and the local Albertson's brand is known as ACME. Given that NJ has some major competitors to ACME, I am amazed this store survives, again due to the OBSCENITY of its overpriced national brands and even their private label brands. I was recently in the Rapid City and Spearfish areas of So. Dakota and was again amazed at the insanely overpriced national and private label brands in this part of the Albertson's rip-off empire. My brother, who lives near Seattle told me on several occasions that "Safeway has a license to steal." Having visited their stores in both SD and WY during Memorial Day week 2025, I'd have to say I agree. Sadly, the only real choices in the Rapid City, SD area are Safeway, Family Fare (another OBSECENELY overpriced chain) and Walmart. Were I to move to the Rapid City area, I am very glad as retired member of the USAF that I can buy my groceries at the Commissary at Ellsworth AFB. I really do feel sorry for the civilians in the area because they are being ripped off and raped by these two chains. read more

Small, shelf's looked bare in some areas of the store. They do have a security guard on duty inside. The store looks old & crusty.

I am traveling through Rapid City. Yesterday Jun 14, 3:24 we stopped by to get a sandwich and water/gatorade. We walked back to our hotel on Main & Rushmore. Halfway we opened our hot chicken sandwich. It was mushy on one side and hard at the bottom. We threw the bread away cause it could not be salvaged. We managed to eat the not so good chicken I don't know if items are checked for times out, but i got ripped off for $3.99 and if I lived there I would go back and demand my refund!! I attempted to send something directly to the store online, but all they have is an automated bot that serves no purpose. It just kept telling me store location and time. Encourage anyone picking up a prepared meal to check it out and proceed with caution. If I wasn't traveling with a group on a set schedule, i would have returned for a refund. read more

Came here to grab some groceries, lots of options to pick from as usual but prices are surprisingly high, seafood counter was closed by 5PM which is super early. Weekly ad for strawberries just started today and there weren't any more! Needed help at self checkout, had to wait a bit for employee. read more

I've stopped in several times at the Mt Rushmore Road location and EVERY time there is only self check-outs open. The checkout lines get extremely long. As you walk out and frustrated you will more than likely see 3 or more employees chatting it up. Need any customer service, good luck! Horrible horrible store. grabbed the items I needed and around 7pm a lot of people come through for their groceries,there was six self check outs open but there was a sign that said 20 items or less for one whole side, no registers were open and three employees were just standing around watching everyone. if they are going to put up a 20 items or less sign they should open a register. this place is too over priced for just self check outs. there was a ton of people all waiting in line for a self check out kiosk to open read more

The manager I spoke to about a next day expiration date and an over ring problem was rude and very unprofessional. I spoke to a different manager who was polite and explained their policy. After great consideration I decided to write this review. I was in there a month ago and it was great the produce department was stocked and fresh. I went in there today 1/21/22@ 9:15am and it was very bad. The produce section was empty and I really mean empty the dairy section was bare. I spoke with a gentleman name Anthony and he said they didn't have any dairy workers and he was the only person in produce. I can't help but to put this on management if you had managers that were capable of running a business this would not happen. I spend $250 every week in food but I can say Safeway you won't get anymore of my money. You should respond to this with an apology to me and everyone else you disappointed today. read more

As we left Safeway today, my husband and I said we will never come here again. This is heartbreaking to us because it's our neighborhood store. it's four minutes from our house but we can't shop here anymore. Here are the reasons: first the flooring is bare cement m; it's very uneven in the produce department;there is usually standing water on the floor. Also in the produce department, there are many eggs cracked in and out of the cartons and below the grates, it is filthy. There are all kinds of debris;there are broken eggs, there are crumbs, there are who knows what. The freezers are frozen over with frost. The produce department usually has debris such as dried leaves, stems, dust where the produce is arranged. The aisles are narrow. We understand the supply chain is a bit unreliable right now but many of the shelves are bare. At the self checkouts and at the regular checkouts, the conveyors are dirty. They are sticky with debris. They usually have only one or possibly two checkouts available with long lines. The self checkout usually has a long line. At the self check out there is very limited space to put the already scanned items. This store is not clean! It is dirty and dingy. We are sad that our store has gone downhill so much and we can't shop here anymore. read more

Not only did they not have my medication in stock (a common one) They treated me disrespectfully and treated me as if I were two years old. I would appreciate when going in to a place of business to not be treated condescendingly and with scorn. I will not be visiting this store ever again if I can help it. I called the customer service and the lady said she's not in charge of the deli when I asked her why they had nothing all I wanted was some lunch meat and I drove there for nothing. I never write reviews because I don't want to be a Karen, but I'm writing a review now because this store was that bad. The workers there were very rude and inconsiderate, one of the older ladies talked down at me and called me stupid. A teenage worker stood by and watched it happened without saying anything. I left the store feeling very sad and ashamed. Also, all of the aisles were mislabeled and unorganized so it was hard to find things. I am disgusted with the service of the grocery store and never in my life have I been treated so rudely. read more

The store location is very convenient. The checkout and stocking employees have always been very helpful, friendly and respectful. Even in these trying times they have been as well stocked as other stores. I've used their pharmacy on a number of occasions and have found the staff to be courteous and didn't find the prices to be much different than other pharmacies. read more

I experienced an unprofessional cashier today. As I was leaving the store there was some good deals on marked down items so I got some of the candy. Since the person I was with was leaving I was in a hurry so I went to the self check out registers. I scaned it but the discount did not show up so I went to the cashier who told me I needed her. So I got to the register first and was just going to scan while I waited for her but she yelled at me that I needed her. People were starting to look while she yelled that "you need me" at me. All she had to say was don't scan the item I will be there in a second. I will be avoiding that place as much as I can. read more

I overheard three employees making a bunch of VERY nasty RACIST statements and remarks about a small group of Native American people while walking into this Safeway, as I heard them saying these things I told them while very frustrated that that is in NO WAY of how you speak or talk about people let alone while at your place of business while wearing your Safeway uniform. So I waited around and asked to speak to a manager and as it turns out one of the three employees was the manager. He pulled me aside to their front office and started his first sentence off with "I'm not racist but" and than proceeded to tell me how the laws in South Dakota would allow for him or anyone else to engage with these Native American people because they would have been considered a "war party" and he would have been within his right to do something about them at his store. I've never heard anyone ever be that disrespectful towards an entire group of people while at their place of business. The amount of disrespect shown by someone who claims to be "the manager" was just unheard of to me at that time. The manager that day was a younger red haired man and I would like to see him fired over this. Saying things like "they're lucky we're not in Deadwood because we could just shoot em'" and "yeah f*@# the whole tribe is trying to make it into here and I know all they want is to steal that ol fire water"... I won't be shopping here anymore and I've mentioned this to a pretty good amount of people who also agree that they probably won't be shopping there anymore as well. Also, I have a friend who is an employee of this same Safeway who is indeed Native American and when I told him about this he was a bit more than just upset. This is not how you treat people. The Deli at the Mt. Rushmore Road is absolutely awful. The woman working there ignored me and walked away, and when I called her back, she said she was going to finish the task she had started since leaving me standing there. I asked for a hot sandwich, the oven was broken, I asked for a cold sandwich on one of the types of bread listed and she said she didn't even have that kind of bread. I walked away. How embarrassing for your organization to display such poor customer service. My cashier was wonderful, but he couldn't compensate for the disaster in the deli. read more

The store is clean, the service has been efficient, however the isles seem so be very bare every time I stop there. So much that I will drive across town to the other Safeway to do my shopping. Which is not ideal as this Safeway is right on my way home. I am not the only one noticing the issues with this, several of my co-workers and friends say the same thing. read more

Very disappointed in service. As I was unpacking groceries I noticed I was missing some items. I called and mentioned that I didn't receive all the items I paid for and they basically told me they forgot to bag those items and I had to go back and pick them up. They could have at least offered me a gift card or something. I had to travel 15 minutes back into town to get the rest of the groceries. What a waste of time and gas!
