The store has a very limited selection of items and very poor customer service. The parking area is dirty despite trash cans being available at the entrance. Customer service was unable to resolve an issue with a purchase from another Safeway location even though they are affiliated. Produce was moldy. Deli items were left out too long and dry. Shelf labeling is not helpful. No baking supplies aisle? The produce dept is always log-jammed with huge shipping lots. The food in the aisles is pushed way back so you don't see it's there. I hate this store but it's close. I'll switch to the box store for major shopping trips from now on. Visited this Safeway during our travels to the famous sites in SD. They have all the necessities plus great selection of deli and bakery items. Everything including cut fruits, focaccia, soup, meat and cheese was of high quality and tasty. I was especially pleasantly surprised by the availability of sushi and poke bowls and they were very satisfactory. This store also opens til midnight and that was a lifesaver as we finished up evening activities and were starving and wanting something convenient but not fast food. Great place to get what you need if you're staying in Rapid City. read more

I wasn't even going to write a review; as I don't live here and will never ever come here again, but an hour later, I'm still so annoyed (and hungry) here we are. So, this Safeway is newly remodeled along with the Starbucks inside (there are multiple signs saying this). And the store looks brand new, clean and shiny. I was hoping for a salad bar. I couldn't remember if Safeways do this feature, but I figured I could make due with the deli salad options if needed. Spoiler alert, no salad bar. So I stood (by myself) in front of the deli case to be helped (I had my eye on the Greek Orzo salad and the Broccoli salad). I waited. I still waited. Finally, the lady behind the second counter where they slice the deli meats/cheeses, ordered her counter person to "help the lady". I assumed this would be me, as I was again, the only person in line. The younger gentleman scoffed and said, "I'm busy". Well, with that I turned around and left. First of all, I'm the customer. I shouldn't have to talk you into helping me. I've been to plenty of Safeway stores in my time and have NEVER been treated like this. This should have been my first and only clue needed, but like an idiot, I made my way to the "newly remodeled" Starbucks. There was one person working, and it looked like she had been trained to focus on one customer at a time. Which she did. Like she was a Clydesdale with blinders, never once looking up to greet customers or let them know it will be a minute, nothing. Now, I havent worked for Safeway, so maybe what I experienced today was the norm and my previous experiences were the outlying, but I worked for Starbucks Corporate for 10 years in the 90's and then managed licensed stores for another 10 years, and I can without a doubt tell you this is NOT how they were trained to do things. My first experience at this store was today 2-22-25. I ordered a pick up order for 6pm. When I arrived it said my order was delayed. At around 6:30 I called to find out how late my order would be because I had my kids in the car. They stated due to short staff and being really behind it might be done by the end of the night but if not definitely tomorrow. I asked if I could come in and shop for the items myself and they said I would need to cancel my order with customer service. I also asked about my 30$ coupon I had in this order which was for pick up only. The man on the phone stated he would honor it. So I brought my kids into the store while on the phone canceling my order (which I have to wait 2-3 business days to be refunded for) I find the gentleman that I spoke with on the phone who works upfront by customer service (younger, tall, blonde hair). I verify that I will still get my coupon. He tells me to come find him at the front when I'm done shopping and they will help me with my coupon. I finish shopping and point him to my cashier at register 2. He says he's going to have his manager come over. I watch him go to the manger who appears to be busy and then walk over and ask me if the coupon was for online orders only. Obviously the order is for pick up orders, we spoke about it on the phone. (the only reason I'm not picking up my order is because he cannot even tell me when it will be ready) ..He tells me sorry there's nothing we can do if it's for pick up orders. I am just shocked by the experience. Seems poorly mismanaged and I will not come back to this Safeway. read more

This is about a pharmacist and the way I was treated back in December. I needed a medication that was out everywhere else in town and they had it there. I called and asked them to fill it several hours before I went and when I got there it wasn't filled the pharmacist with long blonde hair about late 40s came up to me and said who told you we even have this? (My dr called them) Well you can't have it because insurance won't pay for it and I asked to fill it anyway with a good RX coupon I was having severe withdrawals from this medication. I needed it right away. I didn't know which form the med was that was prescribed(ER vs IR) so I pulled up the wrong good RX coupon and the pharmacist grilled me about why I didn't know what the prescription form was when she had the prescription on her computer, and she could have looked, told me and I could pull up the right coupon. she grilled me in front of a crowd of people waiting for their prescriptions and as I started to tear up to try to explain to her why I needed it because of the symptoms she crossed her arms and said I'm not giving it to you . *Mind you, this is not a controlled substance. * This is not a prescription that anyone would abuse at all, and she acted and treated me like I was drug seeking. I started to cry and now I'm crying in public and she said well I'm not giving you this if you don't know what it is. she then said your prescription will will be ready in two hours.(what?) I just turned around and left and got a text within 20 minutes that the prescription was ready, and that my insurance had covered it. I can't believe the cruelty some people can show to strangers. I am a nurse in my 50s and I can't imagine if an elderly person or compromised person had to experience that . I'm still upset about it. Shame on you . I don't typically leave reviews but this incident really bothers me. I'm sorry to anyone she has done this to. read more

I go here with my senior clients. I think the prices are high and such a small store selection is limited. We seem to end up with a cashier who is not nice. She doesnt speak. Acts like shes in the worst job imaginable . Eyes rolling, gum snapping and long fake nails tapping as my elders check out! I dread going to this grocery store (even though it's the most convenient) for the following reasons which are disturbingly consistent: 1. Rotten produce. Always. 2. Empty shelves. Consistently out of yogurt and any vegetable that happens to be on sale, and usually bananas. I have never witnessed a worker stocking a shelf. 3. Poor service. (a) Checkout Mistakes: I buy the 50% off "about to expire" yogurts and I have yet to have an employee ring it up as such. I have to have them cancel it and ring it up again, which they never know how to do, and have to have someone come help them. (b) Apathy: When the checker asks if you found everything ok (remember empty shelves?), and you tell them no, the yogurt I came to buy was out, no bananas, or no asparagus, they have no response. Grocery shopping in Rapid if you eat anything other than pre-packaged, processed food is a nightmare. Wal-Mart is a better choice for produce if you aren't politically and ethically opposed to them. As for the pharmacy, I call in my prescription in the morning and the automated message usually tells me it will be ready by 1 pm. When I come pick it up at 5pm, it's usually not ready (even though it's prepackaged), so now I call it in a day early just so that I don't explode with frustration at the counter read more

I am so sorry that the BEST grocery store for miles has been ruined by the take over and remodeled to the point of unattractive colors and bright lighting. This Safeway store had a calm confident energy in the past creating an enjoyable shopping experience. Now it's run in hurry to shop to get away from the bad atmosphere and equally unpleasant employees. There are NO bag boys you have to bag your own now. There is nothing wrong with a little update and cleaning but it goes beyond that. There was a reason we didn't shop at Albertsons and there's an even more reason why we're not going to shop at the Safeway if we can avoid it in the future I might as well just go to the dump to get my food for all the attitude that this store has. ATTITUDE REFLECTS LEADERSHIP! UPDATE: had to go here....sigh. they now have 1 bag boy, ON A SATURDAY who was busy elsewhere, and the checker was too lazy to put my groceries in my cart for me. Went into the bakery yesterday around 2pm with some quite complicating requests and not sure how i wanted it.. My requests were a unicorn pokemon cake... If I could give them a 0 star I would. They are extremely disrespectful to those with Service Animals. They follow me and my Service Dog around. They even told me I wasn't allowed there and to come back without my Service Dog. When I printed out the ADA laws they told me they knew the laws. If they knew the laws they wouldn't have kicked me out. If you have an actual Service Dog , I wouldn't recommend going here. read more

The chicken I brought to the register was two days past use by date. Thankfully the cashier caught it. 2. Bought an item that contained pork ( which j can't consume) and went to return within 15min of purchasing it. I was denied exchange or any solution other than "sorry I can't help" due to COVID-19 and the new rules put forth by the corporate office ( No returns or exchanges once item leaves the store) which I found out when I went to the return counter. Not mad about the loss of few dollars but just wanna ask one question. So it seems like I can touch every single item in the store and leave it and that would be completely safe? I have mixed feelings for this particular Safeway: Produce: Mostly, veggies such as lettuce are soaking wet. Today, stalks of celery weren't washed and were full of dirt. Kale, greens, etc. are usually very soaked and many times bad quality. Customer Service: If there is something not on shelf, it is an absolute chore to find out if and when it will be restocked. When you check out, they always ask "were you able to find everything? and you dare ask then, because there is a long line behind you. Some of the checkers are pleasant. There is one checker who is very obvious when she runs out to see your basket to see if you have anything that wasn't checked out. It can make a customer feel like a cheat. Not a customer-friendly checker too. Some of the baggers could care less how they bag. Some are okay. A few of the employees are friendly and, a few that looked overworked and indifferent. There is one woman (I think part of management) who is absolutely cold and very "snotty". She should not be in a position of interaction with customers. Bakery: Rarely find help. They're usually somewhere else. Not friendly. Very distant. They have some good products. Except for the Chiabatta's (which are very good), their French breads taste all the same. Good Pumpkin pies. Products in general: Got a bag of Safeway rice which had mice poo in it. When returned, they didn't apologize and seemed like it was a normal experience. What can you say, canned and packaged foods can't be messed up too badly. Many time, they are out of products. Meat department is uncomfortable to deal with, They are not helpful and seem to want you to leave asap. read more

I do like Safeway and shop there sometimes. This review pertains to accessibility by RV's. I drove past it twice while in Rapid City. There is room to park RV's..... IF....... the store is not busy. Both times I drove past it (two different days), there were LOTS of cars in the parking lot. I wanted to shop, but too many cars, no room to park the RV. So, I didn't get to shop. Horrible store period. Empty shelves even for common things like half and half. Dairy, Vegetable and Meat departments especially bad. Many rude, disgruntled employees and surprisingly management is the same with virtually zero customer service. They reorganized the store and that wouldn't be so bad but when you need to find an employee to help you find something they are either not to be found or have no idea where products have been moved either. I will be shopping elsewhere any chance I can. Don't see the point in paying higher prices for less service without a smile. read more

Horrible customer service and beware of prices at checkout! I have gone to this Safeway twice in two days and each time I rang up the items the prices were wrong! They were way more expensive at the cash register than on the price tags. When I tried canceling the items the checkout girl for self service came up, no greeting, swiped her badge and took the canceled items away. Wow. I went to this store and tried to use rebate coupons from another safeway store. I had the clerk, floor manager and the store manager all raising their voices at me. I wouldn't say yelling but they sure made a scene and treated me like I was trying to steal from them. Their behavior had everyone looking. I finally just left. So don't expect to be treated with respect at this store. Spend your money elsewhere....I know I will. Very sad! read more
