Very dissatisfied. I ordered on line and went to the store to pick up my order. Among other things, I had ordered red roses. When I picked up the order the roses were not fresh, I could tell because the leaves and petals were already falling off. I think he just grabbed whatever he found in the floral department, didn't even check with the florist to see if there are some in the cold case that are more fresh. I didn't ask him to take them back and I should have, or gone into the store myself to find some that were more fresh. He also handed me a bag of chips that I didn't order but I took them anyway to make up for the flowers. I have one Safeway closer to me but it's a smaller store. This is my local Safeway as it's walking distance away from me. It's your typical Safeway that also has a Starbucks inside (although they have a more limited menu than a normal Starbucks). They have an outdoor parking lot but they also have an extra covered parking lot so you can avoid the weather. It's cheaper than some of the other grocery stores in the area. I like the self-check out stations and they recently added another row of them too. One annoying thing is that they are pretty frequently out of stock of simple things like parsley and the shelves can be bare at times. read more

Frank in the alcohol department needs to learn some customer service. he put his arm down to block me from scooting my things up while saying "I'll be with you in a moment" I was trying to scoot my stuff up so that the lady behind me could put her basket down, and he interrupted me and refused to let me finish speaking. Then, I needed something from the cabinet, and as I usually do I tried to point to where and what it was and he was VERY rude saying "I know what it is." Bring back the big, friendly man, not this asshole. Frank was tall, long hair, the personality of a gnat and the customer service skills of a ROCK. I get having a bad day, I used to work at a Safeway-- But that was just plain disgusting how he treated me, interrupting and snapping when ALL I WAS TRYING TO DO was make his life a little easier. If I ever see Frank in the alcohol department when I need something, I will be approaching another employee to be helped-- I will NOT interact with that man again. I will ask another employee to get what I need out of the cabinet. I will NOT check out with that man, EVER. If your company doesn't explain the definition of 'customer service' during training, I suggest printing a handout for Frank and giving it to him. read more

One of my go to grocery stores. A worker saw my friends dog and brought him a pup cup of whipped cream. It was a nice touch and something completely unexpected for a busy city grocery store. I have also never felt unsafe at this store. I will say do not go to the bathroom here if you can avoid it. That place is sketchy and what I would expect horror movies to be filmed in. read more

Why are there no baggers?? Can Safeway not afford them? This has to be their busiest time of the year and yet they don't schedule them? Meanwhile the overworked checkers are trying their best to keep up while customers stand in line for long periods of time, some of them older or disabled people with canes trying their best to stand for long periods of time. Shame on you Safeway. You should take care of your customers and employees if you want them to continue to take care of you while you make record breaking revenues year after year. Parking here is ALWAYS a challenge - doesn't matter if you're here day or night. With the ease of turning straight into the Safeway parking lot from 75th and Roosevelt, it's no wonder it is so convenient that is it always busy. That being said, I don't feel unsafe coming here later in the evening to pick up groceries before going home after an evening out. The produce section has a decent selection of fruits and veggies, though it could use an updated layout where you can view everything from a wide angle rather than the narrow state that it is currently in. There also always seems to be a line at checkout here - fortunately there is a self-checkout lane here that is usually open when it is super busy in the store. The Starbucks in-store is a nice add-on in case you don't have time to make two stops and were planning on a cup of joe. Although these days I have just started purchasing the cartons of Starbucks coffee and other cold brews in the Safeway, and skipping the line at Sbux anyway! read more

Safeway was a ways away when we were younger. About Eight blocks. But driving, they're the best place to buy everything but the fireplace, and kitchen sink. This store has gotten a serious update. While it's not my typical store, I do use it when I'm in the area. I also came here for my seasonal flu shot and was pretty happy with the whole procedure. While I still think it's very strange to get a flu shot in a grocery store, the pharmacy staff was incredibly nice and speedy. Plus I could get batteries and eggo waffles in the same trip. I like this location because it's convenient to my house and offers something besides all "organic" products (looking at you PCC). Sometimes I want my Heinz ketchup, Oreos, and Tropicana orange juice. Staff have been kind to me at this location, and they have a good selection on many items. A con of this location is the parking situation--they have parking in the garage and in the front lot, but sometimes the parking lot is a madhouse. The fact that it's diagonally positioned on an intersection (with a one way street) doesn't help. It can also get generally crowded and they never seem to have enough cashiers. read more

I love this Safeway !! Staff is always super friendly and they go out of their way to help me. Store is clean and competitive prices compared to nearby PCC and Wholefoods.. Produce department always looks great as well. Tonight I stopped in and forgot my coupons at home. I don't coupon much but there was a $10 off $50 coupon I really wanted to use. The checker had no problem honoring and using one she has already. Not sure if they do that for all their customers but I was so happy. I love this store... A lot of the reviews of this location are reporting rude or uncaring staff. I can confirm this and may have some insight in to why that is. I worked here for about a month. I worked hard and got on well with my coworkers. After four weeks of work my name suddenly disappeared from the upcoming schedule. My manager began avoiding me and when my coworkers brought it to his attention he would lie to them and say he was about to fix it. The next week comes and I still have zero hours for the week so I go to the store director for a fix. Apparently I was fired a week ago and they didn't think it important to tell me. No reason was given so I'm just left to wonder what I did wrong. Management here is uninterested in the employees success or well being and the staff knows it. Probably one of the most unprofessional and uncomfortable Safeway store I have been too.. I came in earlier to do some grocery shopping and out of no where there was commotion between a customer outside and the cashier. The cashier was making very rude remarks to the stranger outside. This store is always out of all sale items. I will go through their ad make a shopping list and way way more often than not, over half my chosen sale items are out of stock. I was having a worse than usual shopping trip not to long ago and I am a Tillamook Chocolate peanut butter ice cream addict. When it's on sale, I know it will be gone every time. This ice cream is a little over $7 at it's every day price and $5.29 or so at Fred Meyers every day price. I don't drive and Safeway is only 2 blocks away, otherwise I would never shop at this Safeway location. Back to my ice cream, as usual because it's on sale, it's is out of stock. I ask my cashier for a rain check. I am told that they no longer write rain checks at check stands because cashiers don't have time. Well perhaps if store was stocked with more sale items it would not be every customer asking every time for their rain check. I have been waiting in line for awhile, not unusual at this store and I have lots of groceries I need to get home from freezer and refrigerated items. I said, next time I will check for my sale items before shopping then go get my rain checks before shopping waiting in line and then being asked to go wait in another line, but this one last time could she please write me a rain check. I was told rather rudely that as was just explained to me, I can no longer get my rain check from cashier and I need to head over to customer service desk up front. I have no clue why they call it the"customer service" desk, when no one is ever there and if you go stand there and ring bell, it's going to be awhile before anyone comes. I swear if you look around cashiers and especially the one cashier at self checkout, will not meet you eyes. You just stand there. If you are rude enough to ring the bell a second time after waiting 10 minutes or more, the cashier at self checkout will let you know that you only need to ring the bell onetime and that the person working at the desk was just there, but will be back shortly. I do work days and shop evenings there so perhaps daytime would be a better time to shop. There is generally one cashier with extremely long line, plus the one cashier at self checkout. I just don't know and personally can't come in during the day. I am obviously not the only evening shopper though because it's always busy when I am there. I am not sure what to do anymore, not only are sale items always gone, most of the store is low or out of so much stuff. I guess I will just pay the extra to Uber and go to Fred Meyers instead of shopping 2 blocks from home!! This store is just a nightmare that never improves. Bye bye Safeway. read more

This review is for my wonderful experience with the floral department. I went online to get flowers delivered to my mom for her birthday, through a separate company that partners with Safeway. I found out after I ordered them that this other company would not honor the same day delivery that I selected and paid them for. I asked them for the florists number and it was this Safeway. The woman on the phone here was SO accommodating. She said their delivery truck was already out and wasn't sure if they could do it, but she could tell how bad I wanted my mom to have her birthday flowers and said that she would figure it out. Next I'm bittersweet crying because I'm so grateful for her and stressed from the hassle with that other company. She then said that their business exists to brighten peoples day, that she too wanted my mom to have her flowers today, and guaranteed me she would make that happen, even if she had to deliver them herself. I can't thank her enough for what she did. I am definitely a new permanent customer. read more

This is an exceedingly awesome pharmacy. Not only is it conveniently located inside a grocery store, but it also doesn't appear to get busy during regular weekday hours...nothing like a CVS, Walgreens, or even Costco. If you want to get your meds filled and with minimal waiting (I won't say no wait, because that's physically impossible), this is probably the best place to go near the U District area. You can also get a quick flu shot, which I did. I was in and out in less than 10 minutes. For those of you who have worked in a pharmacy, I'm sure you can appreciate this pharmacy :) read more

This is now my new local grocery store, and since my old one was the powerhouse QFC up on Broadway, no matter which way you look at it anything's going to be a bit of a scaleback. Overall, though, if you give this place a chance it's pretty good. It's relatively small for a grocery store, but they do manage to have a reasonable selection on hand despite that. By "reasonable selection," of course, I mean "staples." You won't find blackstrap molasses here, but you'll find the regular kind. You might have a choice between two different brands of beans. The international selection of foods is pretty much constrained to Asian and Mexican. The produce selection is pretty limited; though, honestly, if you're in the area and looking for produce you should travel the extra five blocks and go to the farmer's market that's down near Roosevelt High School. But if you just need some basic veggies and greens, you'll be able to get them here. There's also a Starbucks, for those who would like to get a little java to boost their energy for shopping. While the food selection is good, their selection where most other things are concerned is relatively minimal. They don't have anything in terms of hardware/non-disposable kitchenwear/electronics, and their toiletries are limited to approximately 1/4 of an aisle. Again, if you just need to grab some shampoo, this place will do ya - if you need a specific kind of shampoo that's not one of the big brands, you'll need to go elsewhere. No makeup selection. I mean, it's a grocery store, not a catchall store, but many other supermarkets offer these amenities so I figure it's worth mentioning. The bakery here is small, and a lot of the time they run out of the bulk offerings, but they always have a few different specialty breads on hand and usually a wide array of attractive desserts. The beer selection is pretty good - it's reasonably expansive and has a good amount of choice between the cheap brands and microbrews. Where this place really (and somewhat surprisingly) hits it out of the park is with the wine selection. Considering how the selection for several other products is rather constrained, the sheer variety of wines they have here is astonishing. You can even get bottles of wine here that top the $300 mark. If you're more like me you'll be more interested in the $3 bottle, but, well, you've got a choice. The staff here is also very friendly and since I'm in here a lot (I live within close walking distance), they recognize me and everybody is always pleasant. Another great thing about Safeway in general is that it is *cheap* - while I sacrifice a lot of the sheer selection I had while shopping at QFC, I know I'm saving a lot of money by going to Safeway. And there is an unbelievable amount of parking here - I don't have a car, but there's a parking lot out front and an absolutely massive parking garage beneath the building. You'll never want for parking. So at the end of the day, this ain't a bad grocery store. It's got most of the things you need, and quite a few of the things you don't need but want anyway. And, just like with every grocery store, they have their fair share of weird/annoying people working there. But, dang it, all I care about is that they invited me to be part of their "club", let me in on some sweet savings, mail me "super coupons" and hook me up with a gas discount, plus give me another few pennies off for bringing my own reusable bags! While most of the staff at this Safeway are charming and sweet, there is one middle-aged checkout guy who consistently weirds me out with his inappropriate stories about his friends' body parts and his come-ons to the young girls in the checkout line. Bleh. There is such a thing as OVERLY friendly. Doesn't Safeway have some kind of employee workshop for this kind of thing? Other than that, this location is average. It's called "Un-Safeway" by locals, and honestly, they're right. The parking lot is full of homeless and otherwise shady folks, and the police were constantly making it their base camp to scare off the bad news bears. If you make it inside without getting shanked, you'll find a great little Safeway that is just the same as any other Safeway. It's a bit smaller than the ones I've frequented, but they still have everything you'd need at a grocery store. Bring your pepper spray! read more

First, sometimes you get a craving for something that is not too good for you but tastes great...this is one of those times and so is my second example. We are craving Chili Dogs...so I go to Safeway and get those makings. I buy two cans of Chili, the lines are LONG, and I finally start putting my food on the belt and notice one can of chili has a dent in it. I tell the cashier that the can of chili is dented, so he asks me if I want it, I said NO, the can is dented. He then says how about if I only charge you half price? I said, "I don't want it if you gave it to me for FREE!". He then mumbled something about trying....trying like HELL, my ASS! He should have got that snotty bag boy to go fetch me a new can so that I could leave the store with two cans of Chili like I wanted to. BUT, instead the bag boy says "Have a nice day!". I would have had one if I had gotten the can of Chili I actually wanted to leave the store with....but I guess that is ASKING TOO DAMN MUCH. TODAY IS THE LAST DAY I WILL EVER GO BACK TO THIS STORE! It was a nice warm day in Seattle, so I thought I would go in the car and go buy a half gallon of Ice cream.... Sound easy right??????? WRONG. I finally make it to the cashier, I enter my number in the machine to get credit for my purchase and any discounts that I may get with my membership card. As I enter my phone number, the cashier continues to ring up items that are NOT MINE! I bring it to his attention, I say, "HEY, I only am buying the ice cream!". He then looks at me and says, "Why did you not place a divider between your order and the next person's order?" I said why didn't she put the divider down because all l want is the ice cream and that other stuff belongs to that lady there, and I said don't blame me. Then he began to tell me again .....then I said, " I don't want to hear this shit from you, all I want is to pay for the damn ice cream and leave before it all melts!". He smartly rings up my order without saying another word. The dumb ass sixty something year old bag boy tells me to, "Have a nice day". If the damn cashier would first noticed that I only had one item, and then not begin to preach to me after I had a ten hour work day, when I was only expecting to work 8 hours then I might not have reacted so harsh to his sermon. But I did, and now I am so damn pissed at this store, I vow to never step foot into it AGAIN, come hell or high water (whatever that means). Teach your cashiers first some manners.....and proper way of dealing with customers. I am thinking about only going to QFC, at least when they tell you to have a nice day they really mean it. My Sunday night hot spot, the Roosevelt Safeway is all I could ask for in a grocery store and more. Everyone is nice (I doubt they know my name, but I *swear* they recognize me), the shelves are well-stocked and the prices are reasonable. What more could you ask for? My only gripe is in the evenings and on weekends you'll often find long lines and a full parking lot. With the closure of the Greenlake Albertson's a few years ago and the rise of condominiums in Greenlake and along Roosevelt, it is getting to be ridiculously busy. read more

Being a Asian, I love Chinese food as much any Asian, with all those sweet older Asian staff they have behind that counter at the hot food section, you think somebody can get it right, their sweet hot chicken what ever is call, thank goodness for the sauce, other wise the chicken was bland and the fried crust was like a dried muffin, other items there wasn't any better either, I gave this place way too many chances. I go out of my way to shop at this Safeway instead of the closest one on 35th NE. That's how much I like the update, the selection, the staff, and my fellow shoppers. I hit Safeway usually for dry goods and wine, rarely for produce and meat and the etc. shopping. I usually find what I am looking for at a good price. I usually interact with pleasant employees. I usually have pleasant, or at least amusing, experiences with my fellow shoppers. (When you bring a toddler to a grocery store, you pretty much always interact with others.) I love the underground parking lot because I can easily and safely get my kid in and out. When I travel solo, I totally park outside and dodge drivers and shopping carts, just for the adventure and freedom of it. I love the wine steward, Jan. She ALWAYS asks if she can help me, asks what I am pairing wines with, what I am looking for, what my price point is. My goal is to get her to recognize me because I have spoken to her many times. I know she sees lots of people every day, but one of these days I just know my face is going to click for her and I can die complete. I love the butcher, or at least one of them, who came out to talk to me and my son because the butcher had just had a baby and wanted to relate and share stories. He totally recognizes me every time, says hi. I love the checkers and the baggers, too! I just love them all. It doesn't get five stars because the produce isn't great. I am often looking for things that are not that beyond the pale these days, but still seem to be considered so at Safeway: shallots, leeks, root veggies. You can find them, it's just that they are in a refrigerated section and are rather anemic. So I get my produce elsewhere, unless I'm in a pinch. read more
