Convenient location to beaches - situated in a neighborhood but still near the main road. Crazy Safeway app annoying and discriminates against seniors and those without smart phones. This is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. Many years back we looked at at little inexpensive cabin duplex just behind this Safeway - but it was fully occupied by tenants and they looked so happy there with MacDuffs and Safeway nearby we were sure they would never leave. Stores and restaurants and bars nearby is what makes a neighborhood great. You can live in the middle of nowhere and have a nice view but if your isolated I don't think its good unless your a retired senior citizen. I have to give myself 5 or 10 more years until I get to that point. The store offers everything you need - and its cheaper than nearby Whole Foods. What I don't like is the crazy app and digital coupons only. I'm able to do all that if I choose to - but its very unfair to seniors and disabled people and maybe even people who can't afford smart phones. I'm surprised there isn't a lawsuit yet... I remember once being behind a retired senior - probably being cheap out of necessity rather than sport and it not only holds up the line dealing with all this confusion but also seems unfair. I stopped in Friday evening at around 8 PM after an enjoyable service at Regan Beach. I was simply looking for a sandwich for the road. Have you ever visited a business, where one or more employees clearly didn't want to be there? When check-out time arrived, what I faced was 3 clogged up full-service lanes and a guy at self-checkout that told me "good riddance" as I walked out the door. Would have been four if there were more staff at the check out lines. There was no one bagging groceries for our lines and it took at least 30 min to check out. I understand that it was busy due to a holiday but you have to have more staff available for check out in those scenarios. Food selection was also not the best. We stopped at this store to grab a sandwich.  We ordered the Italian sandwich, which consisted of ham, salami, pepperoni, fresh mozzarella, artichoke hearts, pepperoncinis, spinach, and mayo on a French roll.  The sandwich was really good, but the mozzarella was too thick so we didn't eat it.  This store is fabulous!  If I lived in the area, I'd definitely shop here! read more

A very average Safeway, as far as Safeways go. The hot Deli was small compared to other stores I've been in but most everything else was on par with your average grocery store. I didn't love the layout of the dairy aisle amongst the cold beer aisle - Admittedly it took me three times crossing the store to find sour cream - but alas, that could be user error. I will tell you why my grocery shopping experience at the Safeway in Southlake Tahoe, and Safeway in general has become more and more disappointing. Southlake Tahoe, location should be a very convenient location for many shoppers, but it appears people are just avoiding this place and now I know why. The store lacks in so many ways hundreds of items on shelves without prices shown, when you want to find out what the price is, they tell you to take it to the register, you have to do your own discovery just to shop here. I'm so disappointed. I left with three or four things when I would've normally filled a shopping cart had the experience not been so disappointing. The online shopping that they've stressed recently has you playing ridiculous video games just to buy groceries. The shelves have super high prices, but if you want to play their game and play video games or the old-fashioned method going through coupon flyers you might be able to get a good deal, but I'm not playing games. for groceries. What I want in a grocery store is low prices every day on the items that are on the shelf, clearly marked what the prices are. They had seven dollar eggs for sale on the shelf when I said something to the cashier she says oh there's a coupon. Did I walk back to the back of the store again to get those eggs? no! because I didn't come here to play games, I came to shop for groceries. I went to the S Lake Tahoe at 1:30 on Saturday and there was only one lane open. That line was very long. 2 more checkers came out but didn't put their lights on so I asked both of them if they were open and they both said no. So I got back in the long line when an elderly man came up behind me and started walking towards the cashier lane that a blonde woman was in. Even though I told him that they told me their lanes weren't open he asked the blonde and she replied "No, but I'll take you." He came back to get his cart and said to me, "I know her really well." How rude and unprofessional of that cashier! I was so livid that I will never go back to that store again! read more

Great Safeway location, but super crowded on weekends during the peak season. On a random non-holiday weekend, all the checkouts had lines 6-10 people long, and no option for express lanes. Very well stocked and clean, but extremely busy. I recommend coming in the early hours of the morning. read more

There is an employee named Al who has been horrifically intimidating and rude. He is a bully! As a woman, I genuinely feel unsafe to shop at Safeway because of the way he has treated me. I have had multiple interactions with him as a checker where he used his energy and words in a way that made me feel unsafe. I even complained to a manager who did NOTHING!!! I refuse to go there anymore to shop, for fear he will be my checker... I felt obligated to put a review just in case Safeway corporate wants to know who is running their store! read more

I can understand now why this grocery store is averaging less than 3 stars out of 5 on the reviews. Having noticed that a discount on my purchased eggs, had not been taken off the total on the receipt, I returned to the cashier, with that question. She confirmed that I hadn't received the discount, even although, I had mentioned the discounted price of the eggs, as she scanned. She referred me to the self checkout assistant, who asked me to retrieve the item from my bag in my car. Once more confirming the error, she asked me to wait by her area, as she needed to "expain to the cashier how to deal with discounted items". On her return she informed me that "these were the most expensive eggs, and that cheaper eggs were right there on the same shelf". Information that I felt was irrelevant. She counted out the $2.44, into my hand, complaining that "our scanners are not working properly all across the country". No apology was given. Just a bad experience two days in a row with customer service... the deli gal took 15 minutes to cut 1/4 lb of cheese and a 1/2 lb of turkey. Then we get to the register... the girl at the register looked like she just got out of bed, took 25 minutes to ring up the girl before us, then gave us a free French loaf of bread after we moved lines (like the 6 people behind us had done). This was the first time she had acknowledged us after hanging out in her line that long. THEN the free $2.49 loaf of bread she gave us, was stale as all beings. I think we just came on a bad day for the crew. read more

This is just for my peeps...as you all know l keep track of any establishments that for one reason or another my peeps can't get fair or equal service....you can now put The Safeway at Johnson on the list...where ever we shop there is always going to be someone who is going to be offended by your mere presence...not too long ago while shopping at Safeway the lady sales clerk in the self checkout approach me and said make sure you pay for that item...because the last time you were here you failed to pay for something....I then asked are you accusing me of shoplifting?...l then asked how much was the item that I didn't pay for last time...she then says two or three dollars ...but it's OK I took care of it for you...l put $5 dollarsdown and...immediately ask to speak to the manager...they are not here was her response.....this is their setup....no one says anything to you as you walk out without paying for a item.....it's always sometime in the past that this happens....just don't let it happen again was her warning....so peeps whenever I go through self checkout.... which is very rare...because l fear she is trying to set me up......l always have this one lady check my receipt just incase...she is the only one who I feel is having a problem with us shopping there... ...just a heads up always keep you receipts....last time I was there, l ask her would she like to check my receipt....guess what she says......stay alert as always.... read more

Just wanted a tall can of beer. Normally, at our Safeway location, we are able to check out alcohol at the self checkout if we have 2 things and the person is open to checking us out. We waited for the person to be done helping someone and asked if he (Jim) could check us out. He said "go to the main aisle" and we said "oh you don't do that here?" which he then proceeded to say "oh Nope. I'm just not going to". The way in which he said it was very rude. He then watched us like a hawk: purchase and walk out with our tall cans. Jim please continue to be kind, you have 0 idea what someone is going through. If you said "I'm helping someone still OR I can't check you out right now please go to the main checkout" that would've been no issue. I understand workers may be tired but we had 3 items (2 tall boys and a red bull). There was no need for Jim's attitude or tone. read more

I didn't realize but Safeway and Albertsons are one in the same so the rewards system will works in both stores. Stopped in to buy some Smart water (strawberry & blackberry flavor) for $1.00 each (sale price) regularly $1.99 but unfortunately this is a hot commodity and they ran out. The nice part I was speaking to an employee and he was apologetic but was extremely nice. Picked up a few other items and everything was good. The store in general was clean and bright. Really one of the only big markets in South Lake Tahoe. The place is big and carries everything locals and tourists need. They have a large selection of seasonal items. Fresh produce and a great meat & cheese section. Staff was friendly. Check out their clearance section. They really want to get rid of things fast and prices reflect it! Bargain! Parking lot is big but tends to get very crowded. The bathrooms were filthy the day I went. Store was well stocked. If you are a flat lander, expect to pay a bit more up in the mountains. read more

Came here to get some last minute items for the days we were staying and it was a breeze. Everything was clean, easy to find, the customer service was nice. My son even through a tantrum and no one blinked an eye, which is nice instead of getting the death stars of god forbid a kid makes a noise. Easy to get in and get out overall, and there was a women who fell at the entrance and the employees went to her aid so quickly, that was awesome, they didn't just turn away because they didn't know how to handle it or didn't want to, that was nice, way to jump in and rescue! read more

Open late! They have everything you need. I found organic broccoli slaw, organic peppers, organic feta cheese, organic broccoli and cauliflower. I could not find organic asparagus but I've never seen it anywhere. We picked up some meats and cheeses, granola out of the bulk area, yogurt and bacon. We stopped by two more times on our vacation to grab sparking water and hot sauce as well as to look for souvenirs. They have some really cute coffee mugs for Tahoe. I picked up a Tahoe reusable grocery bag. It's beautiful, big, and sturdy. I've used it several times and it's still in good shape! Store clerk was weird but helpful on two occasions. been shopping at this Safeway since 1993, maybe little later as they built this new store, your asst manager has a major customer service problem. you should check your internet/wifi if you are going to have specials that need this and if your customer can't download it in your store and he needs to go to cs desk to have it refunded there needs to be no problem! She actually asked to see our phone to see if we had the app!!!!! Really!!!! so annoying since for (with the acceptation of 2022) we had to go back to get a refund on over charged items once a week! and then to question us!
