So, we had always thought that for our wedding the dinner wouldn't be a big to-do--we just wanted people to get fed so they could have enough energy to go dance. Our wedding venue has a list of about a dozen approved caterers, and we went with Sage because it fit our budget--they came in at about half the price of other caterers on the list. So imagine our surprise when we arrived at our tasting a couple of months before the wedding and every dish blew us away with the quality of the ingredients and craft of preparation. Meredith and the Sage team are so thoughtful about producing a menu that takes advantage of the best in-season produce and other high-quality ingredients, and even when cooking for over 180 people everything is prepared to perfection. We really feel like we struck gold working with Sage--many of our foodie-est friends were telling us that it was the best wedding food they'd ever had. We also appreciated that Sage was very accommodating for our vegan and gluten free guests, and that their family style options include many dishes that are already vegan/gluten free, ensuring that nobody was short of options for delicious food. Sage also helped us realize our vision for our bar menu, helping provide fresh lime and lemon juice for our signature cocktails and providing skillful bartenders to keep all our guests satisfied. Our day-of catering manager also did a fantastic job making sure we were fed and happy, bringing us appetizers while we were signing our marriage license, checking in with us during dinner to make sure we had everything we needed, and even preparing to-go boxes for us in case we were hungry at the end of the night. Sage did the food and bar for our wedding at Outdoor Art Club and everything was absolutely delicious, especially the incredible salmon! We knew we wanted to work with Sage from the start, so I didn't realize until later that most places let you do a tasting before booking. Sage doesn't, and we actually couldn't do our tasting until just a few months before our date. Based on the creativity of their menu and so many great reviews I didn't worry though - and am happy to add another to the list of people saying the same thing! The food was excellent, fresh, and creative, and many people have raved to me about the salmon. The experience working with them was also very good - during cocktail hour they made sure my husband and I got appetizers, even bringing us a plate with a couple of each, which was so appreciated. They also did an excellent job with the bar, even figuring out changes on the fly - my dad wanted one of our signature drinks that was grapefruit based, without the grapefruit. They made a lemon version for him in the moment, and then remembered just what to make him each time he came back! We did need to order all the tableware rentals and alcohol ourselves, however Meredith was an excellent partner through the planning process, and guided us really well on what we needed, and how much of everything to get. We picked out the styles we wanted with the rental company and then she worked with our planner and the rental company to handle the order details and quantities of everything, something I wouldn't have known where to start with. We worked with Meredith of Sage catering for our wedding in July 2022. From start to finish, everything was smooth sailing. I chose Sage because their style of food resonated: creative, local, farm-to-table, vegetable leaning, and emphasis on in-season produce. Their suggested menus on their website caught my eye. While the photos are limited online and their social media, I liked speaking with Meredith on the phone; she reassured me that she understood my vision. Meredith was always fast to respond and very thoughtful and detailed with her correspondence. When I went back and forth on what I wanted (I'm annoyingly indecisive), Meredith was so accommodating and professional, she never made me feel like I was making her job difficult. The tasting was very comprehensive and an enjoyable afternoon. While I wasn't 100% on the taste of the dishes, I was more than pleased when it came to the wedding day. We chose dishes that used summer produce and you really have to eat them in-season to be at their best. As our tasting was in Fall/Winter, the flavor wasn't there..but, trust! Sage is meticulous about which suppliers they work with and engage local producers (such as bakeries and creameries) where possible. On the wedding day, people RAVED about the food. The heirloom tomatoes we tasted in July were 10x better than in Fall. Weeks after the wedding, guests still mentioned how it was "the best wedding food they ever ate". I was so happy to hear this! Their staff was also really great: a nice balance of professional and attentive yet relaxed and not stuffy. One tip: we opted for family style and this is the best format if you want a more relaxed feel and it makes the meal more interactive. I feel so much shame writing this review 10 years later!!!! Life got so busy after the wedding but hey, better now than never in honor of our 10 year anniversary! Our October 2013 wedding at Cornerstone Gardens could not have been more beautiful without the help of Scot at Sage catering. He is so organized and helpful from the beginning to the end. He also has GREAT taste and suggestions. I'm a very picky person, and he never once made me feel like a cuckoo bridezilla. We were initially apprehensive about booking them without trying them first since that was their policy but definitely no regrets whatsoever! They knocked it out of the park. Does not get better than Sage! If you want first class food with even better service, Sage is the company to go with. When I was planning for my wedding, there were two deal breakers for me: I had to have my hair/makeup girl available, and I had to have catering by Sage. I've been to about 30+ weddings, and never had food as good as the one catered by Sage. Heck, Sage catering is better than most restaurants. My mom even remembered their catering from a wedding almost 10 years ago. It's THAT good. From the get go, my contact was Meredith and she was amazing! This woman had a baby and was back at the office answering my emails within a couple months, I swear! She was extremely responsive, dealt with my plethora of questions, and was the most gracious at the tasting where my mom and I "didn't quite see eye to eye on everything" LOL! And day of? Meredith was there the whole time making sure everything went well. I had a guest who's got a lot of food allergies and when he told me that when he asked Meredith about what was in the food, she found out his allergies and brought him a special meal. He was very impressed. If that isn't 5 star service, I don't know what is. And the food. Oh my goodness the food. The heirloom tomato and burrata salad was to die for. Just the creamiest, freshest burrata with perfectly ripe tomatoes, the right drizzle of balsamic (not drenched), and a crunchy, yummy crostini on the side. The filet was melt in your mouth good and the salmon was better than I've gotten at any restaurant, even in coastal towns. Slightly crispy on the outside and just tender and delicate on the inside. Decadent is the only way I can describe their food. I don't know how they do it at such a large scale either because every one of the 108 meals they prepared for us was phenomenal! I know you're thinking, "Oh Malley, how do you know that every single one was?" But I do because ALL my guests told me so. They could not stop talking about the food. This review is long overdue! We got married in September at my husband's family home and food was the most important thing for us at our wedding. We wanted our guests to have incredible food, not just for a wedding, but as a stand alone meal. We did passed appetizers during cocktail hour--they were all so delicious and beautiful. Our wedding coordinator made sure a plate with each app was waiting for us after the ceremony (along with a glass of champagne!) so we got to taste each. A couple stand-outs were the mini crab cakes, and the wild mushroom & mt. tam triple cream crostini. For dinner, our ~ 80 guests started with a plated salad of burrata and heirloom tomatoes, and then shared the mains & sides, family style. From the steak to the salmon, it was all cooked to perfection. I can't count how many people came up to us to gush over the food. People could not stop raving about the herb crusted hanger steak and the ricotta ravioli in brown butter sauce. Our guests loved everything so much that they ate everything! While we were a little sad to not get to munch on any leftovers the next day, we couldn't have been happier that our guests got their fill. Working with Sage was a dream. Unfortunately my story is a sad one, but it could have been a lot worse and more complicated without the help and flexibility of Sage catering. Story time: First and foremost, my finance and I went to at least 8 catering companies and Sage blew them out of the water. If you're getting married one of the most fun things you can do during the process is try out catering companies, some do free tastings and other do tastings for like $100 for 4 people, which essential like going out to lunch. Before we arrived at Sage my finance and I we stuck between picking two other caterers and after the first bite of their food, we were like "well that was easy." They are just incredible, they've done a few events for our family, which was how we heard about them, and their performance has always been phenomenal. Fast forward a few months, our wedding venue burns down in the Kincade fire. After notifying Scot and his team, they essentially tell us, that they're flexible and whatever venue we pick they'll be there and if we needed a refund they'd give it to us. With so much uncertainty, they just made it easy, by being flexible and supportive. Fast forward a few more months. Well now we have COVID and of course everything is off (told you this was a sad story). We essentially emerged from the flames, straight into the jaws of a pandemic YAY. This time we unfortunately had to cancel with Sage, but they were very accommodating and only charged us a light fee for the tasting and planning. Which to be honest is more than reasonable, I think we switched venues on them four times and changed the menu six times. With all the work and time they devoted to us, it was well deserved. We first went to the tasting at Park becauase it was free. The taste was lacking and so was the customer service. The guy even argued with me. Ramekins had much more spectaular customer service, but we were not overly impressed with the cuisine. Then, we put our money out and went with Sage, and goodness are we glad we did. The customer service is top notch. Oceanna is truly spectacular and has a thorough understanding of your needs to make you feel at ease. She really understands the venue Cornerstone and what quantities to make your guests' experience the best. Also her staff, just great. The best part of our wedding was the food! Everyone raved about it. When we were deciding between the final 2 caterers, we had a tough decision to make. One of the caterers had pretty good hors d'oeuvres and delicious entrees, but we felt that the food was a little heavy and oily. With Sage, the hors d'oeuvres were amazing, but I had mixed feelings about the entrees. The entrees were tasty and had a nice/clean taste, but didn't blow me away. But Meredith from Sage was willing to work with us, made some suggestions based on the feedback we gave, and when we had a limited menu follow up tasting, I was blown away by how everything tasted the second time around. Price-wise, Sage was a little higher than a couple of the other caterers we were looking at (they weren't the most expensive), but it was definitely worth it! I was also worried that the food at the wedding, which had 121 guests, wouldn't be as good as our tasting, but it was just as good! The food was delicious and consistent, the service was excellent, and Meredith was a joy to work with. Sage was absolutely amazing for our wedding in Sonoma. Their food is AMAZING. We tried them at our friends' wedding a year ago and knew we wanted them to cater our wedding. The tasting experience was great. The food was absolutely delicious and we loved creating our custom menu with Spring and Scot. Coming up to the wedding day, Scot and Spring were great with last minute headcount changes. We were within the time frame when we should have been charged, and they were willing to take some meals off when a person dropped out. We also had a few last minute meal choice switches and they rolled with the punches. Everyone LOVED the food at the wedding. The staff was so nice and attentive. They brought me (the bride) appetizers separately when I was stuck getting my hair done during the cocktail party, and were just incredibly personable and sweet. The day of our wedding, it POURED rain until about an hour before the outdoor ceremony. They also had outdoor tents set up, and it was somewhat cool at night (for Sonoma in September, very cool)...and they got through it, everything was ready, amazing, and served warm. My husband and I hired Sage Catering for our wedding at Cornerstone Gardens last month and sadly we could not be more disappointed. Initially when working with Sage I was speaking with Spring and then a few months before the wedding all of the sudden I was dealing with a lady named Mari. That's when everything went downhill. Spring was always pleasant and the feeling I got from Mari was that she wanted to sell sell sell.. it didn't matter that it wasn't what we wanted but she wanted up sell every single rental etc and at that point our catering bill was already at $16,000 (ahhh!) it made me feel like I was negotiating buying a car and not planning my wedding. So, wedding day is finally here and everything seems to be going fine until our speeches were rudely interrupted by Mari telling us it was time to stop and eat. Fine. Food was cold and definitely not what we had in mind. Oh, by the way we were never offered a tasting from Sage. They told me that it was rarely done. Moving on to the reception. The bartender would tell my guests that we were out of a certain wine or beer when we knew we were not. Several people walked behind the bar and get their own alcohol. I guess the bartenders didn't feel like working that night. Also, we gave wine to Sage so they could prepare the Sangria for the wedding and they decided to only mix half of what they were given but still charged us full price. Awesome. At the end of the day I am so sad that I went with Sage and if I could do it all over again they would not have been a part of our wedding. I heard from vendors days after the wedding that they were treated rudely by Mari and that probably disappoints me the most. I'm sure Sage has and will continue to be a part of amazing events but my experience was not a good one and I had a REALLY hard time writing that check at the end of the night knowing that it wasn't deserved. Oh well.. lesson learned! My advice is to keep track of the quote they give you, they'll try to change prices on you and they will not do anything about it unless you catch it.. and try to work with anyone but Mari. Just had a consult here and I have no idea how this company has generated such reviews. First off, I found the man I sat down with incredibly rude and only focused on the cash (wihtout even describing to me a single food item, he pursued a cash discussion, first asking what we were willing to pay and then arbitrally adding $10/pp - no mention of actual food.). Then he flipped through an iPad containing about 5 pictures of actual food and maybe 10 of decor, i.e. his and her shoes, and a few pictures of shrimp (after being told we need to avoid shellfish). Very dismayed by this experience and not at all interested. (4 passed bites plus access to two food stations is 130pp) doesn't include anything else, and the food is uninspiring and their approach lacking. Sage Catering is truly a gem! They catered my wedding reception in September of 2008 and I couldn't have asked for better. Spring, the event manager, was my point of contact from day one to the day of the event. She is friendly, detail oriented, and professional. She runs a tight ship! My then fiancé and I went to several tastings but Sage was by far the best - in taste, quality, and presentation. We gave Spring our preferences for our menu ahead of time. They prepared some tastings for us and it was exactly what we wanted. It was almost as if we were in a one table restaurant. Spring would bring in the food from the kitchen, which was in a separate building from the dining area, describe what we were having, and then leave us to eat and speak our honest opinions to each other. We got many compliments on the food and décor from our guests. Sage uses fresh, flavorful ingredients. Sage's proposal is broken down in great detail. Don't be surprised by the service charge, which is a percentage of the total bill. I was told it takes care of the gratuity, overages, and missing/broken rental items. At first, I questioned it because a percentage of a lot is a lot, but the staff on the day of was great and I didn't have to worry about tipping or any additional charges afterward. Very easy (and later I found out their percentage is quite reasonable compared with other places). Oh yeah, it's all taxable. I called the CA BOE and checked. Sage catered our wedding in June. We picked them after the tasting -- the food was exactly what we wanted -- very local and organic. We wanted a vegetarian wedding that really highlighted all the delicious seasonal food found in the Bay Area in the summer and Sage did a fantastic job. I was nervous that the real food at the wedding wouldn't be as good as at the tasting (after all, its a lot harder to cook for 120 than for 2, and they already had our business) but I was definitely nervous for nothing. The food was fantastic. We had a cheese table during the cocktail hour with all the best local cheeses (Mt. Tam triple cream, Pt. Reyes blue, etc. -- YUM). We also got three passed appetizers (spring rolls, gazpacho, and polenta tarts) and all were fantastic. The main course was a buffet with mushroom tarts, fresh tomato ravioli, beet salad, and a couscous salad. For dessert we had berry napoleans with honey lavender mascarpone....I'm still drooling over the food. The reason I give them 4 stars is Kirsten was...fine...She was nice enough, but she didn't respond to emails very quickly -- usually 1-2 weeks, even for really small questions. Sometimes this could be a problem if I had other things dependent on her answers. Planning a wedding is pretty stressful, and communication was something I value a lot in my vendors. In the end though, everything ran very smoothly at the wedding and the food was definitely great, but it did cause me extra stress to have to wait so long for replies, and anything that causes extra stress in this already stressful time gets docked a star. I would recommend Sage based on the quality of their food at a fairly reasonable price (Its expensive, but less so than other mid-high end caterers around here) but be prepared for less than stellar communication. read more

Sage Catering catered our wedding at the Outdoor Art Club last weekend, and we could not be happier with them. Our team from start to finish was Brooke, then Mari, then Scot. I loved working with them to craft a menu that hit all our favorites. They use the freshest in-season ingredients and we barely edited the menu they produced for us based on what we said we liked. Scot has a lot of experience working at the Outdoor Art Club, so he was super helpful at our walk-through a few weeks before the big day. He had a lot of helpful suggestions about timing, placement, etc., and he said he loved working at the OAC, which was great to hear. The wedding was just... wow! As one of the hosts, I barely could eat a thing, but I had the roasted sea bass and it was possibly the best whitefish I've ever tasted. (I kind of wish I'd asked for a doggie bag to sample the rest that I was too preoccupied to try!) The salad we started with was so light and tasty. Everyone raved about the handmade ravioli and the beef tenderloin too. The asparagus and artichokes were incredibly fresh. Even the new potatoes were full of flavor. It was just--like I said, wow. And most importantly, their staff was so sweet to every one of us. I asked around--they weren't being only nice to me just because I was the bride. They were just so nice to everyone! It really made such a wonderful event. I cannot recommend Sage enough. They made our wedding an incredible and memorable day. I would work with them again in a heartbeat. read more

For my wife and I, food is a big part of our lives. This is one of the reasons we wanted an intimate destination wedding in wine country (we live in NJ). Our wedding was 44 people at Beltane Ranch in Glen Ellen. Our rep was Meredith and then eventually Mari for the actual event. They were professional and easy to work with. We wanted a specific menu and a 90-minute cocktail hour to really impress our family with great food. We wanted WOW-factor. We wanted people to talk about how great the food was. All expectations delivered. We used Sage Catering for our recent wedding in Stinson Beach and we could not have been happier. Very accommodating and professional. We brought in a separate vendor for gourmet pizzas and Sage was more than willing to work with them while supplementing with their own food. There service staff was very professional, and on a personal note I very much appreciated the flexibility of their bartenders. As a bartender myself I had specific requests for our signature cocktails. They were totally receptive to what I wanted and how I wanted them made, and made them exactly as I asked all night long. I should not neglect to add that the food provided by Sage was incredible. The Bacon-Grougere sliders were amazing. That alone is more than enough reason to hire them! read more

We chose Sage Catering for our August wedding at Vine Hill House and were SO happy with how it turned out! If you are looking for outstanding service & extremely high quality food, then you must go with Sage for your event. My husbands one request throughout the entire wedding planning process was that we have amazing food at our wedding. He loves to cook and we both love to enjoy great food so we definitely wanted something above the average wedding meal. Sage delivered in all aspects and we could not have been happier. We worked with Scot throughout the planning process and Brooke as our day of captain. They were both extremely responsive & helpful throughout, even when I decided to change up the appetizers at the last minute! Luckily we got to enjoy our appetizers and a few bites of dinner, which consisted of my favorite heirloom tomato & burrata cheese combo and dinner of filet (or seabass or ricotta ravioli - it was ALL SO GOOD). We also opted to have them provide apple crisps for dessert, which we unfortunately did not get to try. They also took care of all our rentals, linens, bar setup, service, & provided valuable insight into details I didn't even think about. Far and away, the food was outstanding. We still have friends commenting on how good the food was at the wedding & asking who our caterers were. That was what we wanted and they most definitely delivered. My only tiny complaint - we really wanted meals boxed up for us because we knew we wouldn't get a chance to eat and unfortunately that didn't happen. This was the second time my husband and I have used Sage for very special events; a 65th birthday party five years ago for over 80 people and just this June 23 for a 70th birthday party for 110! They were amazing and so well organized. I continue to hear how great the food was, so delicious and that the staff was so helpful with special requests. We had need of a few vegetarian, some gluten-free, and even Vegan dishes. Everything was perfect. Meredith help us organize the evening with input from Scott as well. Carlos was our manager for the evening with his staff and they were incredible! The whole evening was so special and we just loved seeing people so happy with their dinners, every thank you has mentioned the Delicious Food! Raves all around! We got married about two months ago at Cornerstone Gardens in Sonoma and used Sage for our catering. It was amazing!! Mari and Scot were our contact people and they were fantastic. We shopped around and Sage was a great value for your money compared to similar caterers, and they really listened to us and customized a perfect menu for our tastes. We are very discerning diners and are constantly out eating and drinking at the most amazing places in SF and wine country. Sage lived up to and exceeded all of our expectations! We did a full tasting about 9 months before the wedding and were in heaven. Everything was perfect. When it was time to finalize the menu pre-wedding we ended up doing exactly what we had eaten 9 months before bc it was just so damn good. We did our dinner family style bc we think plated dinners for big events never turn out great. Let me tell you, this was a fantastic decision. Not only did it encourage people to share and mingle, but it made the tables look gorgeous with big platters of gourmet everything. And everyone got to try everything - bonus for people like us who share everything to taste as much as possible!! We did four passed apps and full bar with bartenders and staff provided by Sage - it was all delectable and perfect. Next on to the dining tent. We did individual plated simple salad followed by platters of pinot noir braised short ribs, roast chicken, the best ever chive mashed potatoes (!), roasted fall vegetables and home made vegetarian raviolis (these were to die for). Then the party moved on to the barn (totally stuffed) and there was coconut pot de creme (can't say enough about these), fallen chocolate cake and mission fig crostada. Something for everyone and all the best tastes of fall. Late night we rounded it out (literally and figuratively) with homemade sliders, just like miniature In and Out. Just amazing. Now I'm hungry! Sage is just the best and I can't recommend them enough. The presentation was elegant and sophisticated and the staff was lovely. read more

I would hire Sage all over again to do our wedding. We were lucky enough to work with Spring who was incredibly professional and full of wonderful ideas. Our wedding was held at CornerStone Gardens in Sonoma and we were given a list of several caters to choose from. After 2 tastings and several initial conversations, my Aunt, Husband and I all agreed hands down Sage had the best food. Can we talk about how incredible the food was the day of??? WOW! It was better than I remembered from the tasting. Everyone raved about the food. It was so good, that I (the bride) had 5 sliders during the dancing and 2 servings of our entrees. The service was exceptional too! They did an amazing job setting up the tables - it was perfect and I was a picky bride. Spring executed everything as I requested. Sage Catering was the best choice for food for our wedding. Yum!!! Scot was so friendly and professional and made our food tasting such a great experience. We knew we were in good hands right away. The food was to die for. The only constructive criticism would be that the fish was too dry to eat and we had a sheet of cake left in the fridge at the venue without knowing. I think the head caterer should have informed us of that instead of the venue a few days later after finding it. Also, we asked that the delicious pot de cremes were served sooner than they actually were. But they were worth the wait! My daughter's wedding at Cornerstone Gardens was catered by Sage last weekend, and could not have been more perfect. The bride and groom chose family-style dinner service, so each table was served platters of short ribs, roast chicken, vegetarian ravioli, roasted vegetable, and wonderful mashed potatoes - everything was delectable. Sage also provided some desserts to supplement the wedding cake, and those were excellent too. The set-up was beautiful, including the bar set-up next to the Barn, and service was excellent. The Sage people on the planning end were great too, and able to accommodate a number of changes we made to the menu as we planned the event. We would definitely use them again. read more

We can verify that SAGE-ZILLA is alive and still offending customers as much as ever - only she calls herself SPRING not Kirsten! THEY ACTUALLY HAVE TWO SAGE-ZILLAS! We complained to the owner about this woman's obnoxious conduct. Unsurprisingly, he was even more arrogant and offensive than she was! AND, THEY ACTUALLY HAVE A SAGE-KONG! Caterers in Marin County are plentiful. There is simply no reason to tolerate Sage's amateurish arrogance and unprofessional negativity at your wedding or event. We were smart and hired another caterer for our Graduation Party in June. They are polite, respectful and have been a pure pleasure to work with. Food was #1 priority at our wedding. We hate basic wedding food that is dry and tasteless and we love food so much! So we were definitely going to be picky with our choice. From the beginning this team wowed us! We had a crazy idea of having 3 different types of cuisine (fish and chips, tacos and Asian food). And we got just that! The first tasting we were sold and knew we didn't want to go anywhere else. We gave honest feedback of what we liked and didn't like and they made notes immediately. On the day of the wedding everything tasted exactly how we wanted it to. Everyone LOVED the food! But we must say that one of the biggest hits at the wedding was the fish and chips. My husbands family and friends from the UK LOVED IT-as I'm sure many know that it must have been flipping good to impress the Brit's. We had 3 chef tables and the chefs were there to help with any dietary restrictions our guests had. Most all of the staff were great but the one thing I would mention (which is why I took away 1 star) was that some staff used our photo booth for pictures and at the end of the night another staff member dropped a case of beer. We had Sage cater our wedding that was held at Cornerstone Gardens in Sonoma on March 12, 2012. We worked mainly with Spring, and selected Sage based on reviews we saw previously for Sage and Spring. Our tasting was great, and we worked with Spring to tweak the suggestions and personalize it more for our tastes. They provided everything except the alcohol which we brought in ourselves, and everything from the lounge furniture to the chairs for the ceremony were set up perfectly. The food was so good during the dinner that our guests still talk about it (nearly a month later) and many thought the Top Sirloin we selected was actually Filet Mignon. For a wedding, the caterer will be the largest bill (most of the time) and even though this was the case, we felt the costs were fair and they fit in our budget. Sage takes credit cards and their team is flexible on making the day perfect and stress free. My wife and I really can't say enough about them, and for anyone in the area who is able to take advantage of their services, we strongly recommend it. read more

There was no need to fear because they provided the most delicious spread and fantastic service. All of our guests loved the food, the presentation, the quality and more.
