We've been here several times and had a good experience but this one today was bad enough to not come again. 1. HUGE HYGIENE issues: we saw no barbecide/disinfectant was used on anything. She just used scissors and combs in the cart from her first client on my kid. Also, she tried to reuse the same bib from the client before us. Really really not okay or clean. 2. We asked for no clippers and she used them anyway. She had asked us if we wanted a 2 or 3 and we said we didn't know what that meant, so she pulled out the clippers and cut his hair saying "this is a 3". But we had just said we didn't want clippers - she could've explained without using the clippers on him first. 3. She ran almost 20 minutes long with the person ahead of us and was pretty nonchalant about it. No "sorry for the wait!" or anything. I haven't noticed these in the past so there needs to be some serious retraining of the staff. I don't feel comfortable bringing my kids here anymore though. read more

We had a wonderful first haircut experience with Barbara at Sage Kids Family Salon. Our 3-year-old was so excited to pick out her own fun hairstyle, including a clip of her choosing, temporary color, and of course a touch of glitter! When she saw the finished look in the mirror she exclaimed, "I look like a whole new person"! I'm not sure how we got so lost in our communication, but his haircut is truly horrible. I'm mortified that I had this done to him. It's so uneven, blotchy, and horribly short in the front. Barbara, the owner of this Salon, should not be in the business of cutting hair for children. We have come here over 8 times over the last 2 years, and have typically seen stylists other than Barbara - unfortunately all those folks have left. Today my incredibly kind husband asked her to cut our son's hair just a quarter in shorter in the front and she went off the rails. She stated that parents should not give feedback on hair cuts and should not stand near their child. She said she knows what she's doing and that she doesn't need feedback or want it. Our poor son got a rash on his neck from the clippers she used. We were so appalled by her tone that we ended the haircut half way through and left. Thankfully Dosha salon just next door could fix her horrendous work. Barbara behaved this way in front of our children, and other customers. Unfortunately today was the last straw and we will never return. The reviews below here and on Google are further reinforcement of her inability to treat customers with respect. Edited to respond to the owner's review on Google. She has since deleted her Google review response, and updated rude responses to others: Barbara, your unhinged response just reinforces my original point. You have the following inconsistencies that should be a red flag for anyone: 1) You recognize the man was sitting next to me, and then call him a stranger who scares you. That was my husband, you saw us enter, and you only had one other customer in the salon at the time. 2) You claim to have followed my directions. I specifically told you to use scissors not clippers, so no, you didn't listen. 3) You claim to ask for feedback, you did not once ask me. That's why my husband came to you. 4) We did not request you, that was your own salon scheduling system. 5) The person I spoke with is a friend. I shared your behavior with her because she deserved to know what happened. 6) You never communicated that you got cut. Did that happen after you needed something to explain your behavior? Wow! What a great experience! Our son is 2 and hasn't done well with his first couple haircuts. This is the first time he was comfortable with someone using clippers on him. They did everything to keep his attention from a tv show, sucker, to bubbles. I really appreciate their professionalism and asking us to go sit down while they took over. DO NOT have Barbara pierce your child's ears. My daughter had a really hard time after the first hole was pierced. She was crying and upset and Barbara was yelling at her. When my daughter tried to grab her arm s said it in a deep growling voice, "don't touch me!" She said it three times. I was horrified and so worried she was going to miss the hole. It was my daughter's birthday and a horrible experience. To make matters worse, she accused my of lying and said I wasn't a customer on google review. I want to makes sure I share my experience so no one else has to have what should be a very special moment ruined by someone who shouldn't be working in high stress situations. First off, this review is not regarding my child's stylist (whom we love), but the salon and the receptionist instead. Aesthetically, this is a cute kids salon! This was our first time here and initially, we got this welcoming vibe that helps kids feel comfortable getting their haircuts and do's. They even offer ear piercings! Once you enter, there is a table at the beginning of the salon with toys and treats that can be purchased. The salon chairs are tailored for kids as they're assorted cars and colorful seats to choose from. What made my review 3 stars instead of 5 is because, as I was sitting on the other end of the waiting area from another family, the receptionist stood in front of me and spoke to the other family asking them if they would like any drinks like water while they waited for their child's hair to be cut. I thought he was going to ask me next, but he didn't. He unfortunately did not look my way at all to ask if I wanted anything, even when he was standing right in front of me.. When we were leaving, my child was eyeing out the jar of lollipops on the receptionist's counter, and while the receptionist was sitting there and said bye to us, he didn't offer a lollipop - I guess I'm so used to other kid's salon that automatically offers a toy, treat or balloon after each visit. I think if the receptionist/assistant is much more conscientious and treats the customers equally, I would consider a better review. Just disappointed to have a mixed experience here. read more

Our original barber wasn't available and so I gave in and tried this place as a last resort.. Was not impressed by any means. I requested a stylist that could cut mixed race hair. The gentleman seemed extremely nervous and as he started cutting I immediately cringed at the process. You could see every line of the fade that wasn't blended at all and left random strands of curls unevenly cut. On top of it, he used "the super sharp clippers to get a clean line" and ended up cutting my son's forehead. Unfortunately, we won't be back. Lesson we learned. read more

Your business's response to my original review (September) is comical. You stated (a couple of times) that I was "offended". How you came to that conclusion is beyond me but I was far from offended. If anything, I was confused & I'm still confused. I'm confused about why a customer would be advised about specific rules after the fact. Why all the details & specifics now but not at the time of the situation? During the interaction, the owner (Barbara) never specified exactly which social media platform she preferred to be tagged in, she just asked that I tag them. Are customers only allowed to post her "expensive techniques" on Instagram & Facebook but not TikTok? Again, confusing! I'm also confused about why the owner never specified how old or "well-adjusted" a child should be for a parent to be authorized to stand by them. She told me, "We ask that parents sit down while we cut their kids' hair." I'm mostly confused about the defensive stance your business chose to take with my original concerns. You apologized for me being offended but never apologized for your actions. There is no compassion for your customers or empathy for their concerns. You take zero responsibility & accountability for YOUR behavior that day. There is no acknowledgment that you did anything wrong. Instead of addressing the issues, apologizing & reassuring your customers that your business will do better next time, you double down on your conduct by attempting to explain or justify your actions. The owner's demeanor, attitude & management that day in September was less than satisfying. Beware, if you're trying to call them via the telephone number listed on Apple maps, that is not correct number and once you get a hold of them, the customer service skills are lacking- it is my fault that I called the wrong number as the salon does not have an Apple phone and it's not their responsibility to update that information. We started taking my three year old here about 10 months ago. His first cut was with Desirae, and she was SO PATIENT. He wasn't okay with the scissors, but we figured out that he did fine with the clippers as long as he had his face smooshed against me. After some creative chair turning to get him to turn his head, the whole thing was done. His second cut (unfortunately I don't remember the stylist's name) was also great, and we used the same method, with him on my lap and his face against me. Today, I decided to try putting him in one of the race car chairs again, and this time he loved it. The only hard part was his constant moving and wiggling, but Desirae had no problem getting his hair buzzed anyway, and even managed to use different lengths and blending to give him a cute cut while he wiggled away! Also good to note - we needed her to mask up because we live in a multigenerational household, and one of our family members is immunocompromised. She was awesome about it, and also mentioned that on the online reservation form there's a place to request that, so she'll be masked when we come in. Brough both of my stepsons there and it was fantastic! Even in the middle of this COVID chaos, it was still a lovely experience. The atmosphere was bright, cleaning and welcoming. Barbara and Rebecca cut the boys hair and they did an amazing job! They each wanted a variation of the "hipster cut" and the ladies nailed it. They even let them pick out a temporary hair spray color, which they loved of course!! The mounted TV's for kids to watch during their cuts is a clever touch. The boys left with huge smiles on their faces (under their masks) so we will definitely be back. read more

I took my son for a haircut at Sage Kids Salon this morning - it was our second time there. Our stylist, Sandra, was wonderful & did a great job (just like last time)! Unfortunately, we had a terrible interaction with the owner upon entering the salon. My daughter has a medical condition that makes her high risk. So, despite being in the minority, our family continues to practice safety precautions like mask wearing in public. (PLEASE NOTE: I completely respect others' choice to not wear a mask.) They owner saw us walking up with our masks on, met us at the door & immediately told us we had to re-schedule because we were "sick". Despite my explanation, she insisted that no one wears masks anymore unless they're sick. I assured her repeatedly that we weren't sick, and she eventually let us in. But, I've never felt more uncomfortable, unwelcome & embarrassed (this occurred in front of other customers). I left in tears. I understand & appreciate that she wants to protect herself, her staff & other customers from illness. But, there are MUCH better ways to do so. read more

My ear piercing got infected after I got it here. I had been cleaning it exactly how she asked me to, but she put the back of my earring in wrong and that caused it to build up gunk and infect it. This is a cute salon, but I will never pay for any of the premium services again for my kids. I've taken my son here once and he got an adorable haircut for a little boy. I did the Mommy and Me hair cut that is advertised with my daughter last week, and I currently have the worst haircut I have had since my own mother took a pair of kitchen scissors to my hair with a bowl when I was 6. I know this is a kids salon and I wasn't expecting a high-end haircut, but I did expect to have at least an evenly cut hair cut. All I asked for was was bangs and some easy blended layers thrown in my hair, which I did not assume would be a difficult task for any hair dresser to accomplish on basic white girl hair like mine. I paid almost 130 bucks for mine and my daughter with tip for this atrocious hair cut. My daughter also got bangs and a trim and her hair was at least cut even. For as expensive as this cut was, I didn't even get my hair washed. Instead, the hair dresser spent 25 minutes combing through my dirty hair (I expected it to be washed as it is at most hair cuts, so I didn't stress about it in the morning) and then she gave me literally two different lengths of hair. Now I am going to pay more money somewhere else to get my hair fixed before we travel next week and I'm honestly just really bummed at the experience overall. On their website it's touted as this awesome mom and kid bonding time but in reality we were rushed through a busy salon and went home with a terrible haircut. I'm giving 3 stars because the kids cute were fine but this place is trying to do too much with the full family services. read more

Major Regret awaits at Sage!! I requested 1-2 inches trimmed from my daughter's curly hair, but the stylist took off more like 6 inches. I'm stunned that she took off so much length without permission!! My daughter now has a triangle blunt bob just below her chin. I am stunned that the stylist T didn't listen, especially because we discussed how curls bounce up. My other daughter was unhappy with her cut and overwhelmed by the chaotic, noisy, and somewhat dirty space (lots of hair in crevices where you sit to wait). I feel this might be a good place for littler kids ,but we started trying it out when my daughter was about nine. As she got more and more adventurous, I would quietly - and then not so quietly indicate to the stylist that I'd like them to find a middle ground. Since Gabrielle left, I was totally disregarded by two or three different stylists. In fact, last time I took her there, stylist told my daughter behind my back that I was a "helicopter mom" and proceeded to disregard my requests. Calling people names and gossiping never flies well with me, so I haven't been back, even though I don't know a better close-by pick for a salon for her. Don't come here! I visited this salon twice today with my niece and family for her birthday today for an ear piercing. The first time was this morning; we were standing outside when the owner finally showed up 30 minutes late with no key ;we had to reschedule for evening. It was the most unprofessional thing I've ever seen. When we arrived for the second time she was so extremely rude to us! She absolutely has no idea how to treat people! This is the best - I repeat, the BEST - place to have your kid's haircut. Our son has a luxurious mane (you're welcome, son) and thus has to have his hair cut monthly, and Sage makes him look stylin'. Dakota cuts his hair and she's so patient, sweet, and awesomely talented. Seriously, the kid looks like a model when he hops out of the car-chair. Plus, they treat you so well here - the owners/management truly care about their customers - the parents and especially the kids. The former salon, who I won't mention their name **cough cough, Sit Still** is only about the money. They're just franchising to swindle parents out of money and giving not-as-loving people sharp scissors near your kid's head, all to just extract more money from you. But not Sage - Sage cares and expertly cuts. Go here and feel good about the whole experience. read more
