Horrible service! We were considering joining the country club itself but after the horribly rude woman we spoke with today that isn't going to happen. We called yesterday and asked about Easter brunch. ..times, cost, etc. Never once did they say reservations were required. We called this morning to reserve a table and we're told there was nothing available. When I mentioned it would have been nice to know that when we called yesterday, she rudely said "you should have made reservations weeks ago so I don't know what to tell you." If you're sold out, fine, but be nice to your potential customers. In my 15 years in hotel management I've never come across such rude service. We'll be spending our money elsewhere. read more

If you know the history of the Country Club's restaurant you'll know Kristi, the owner is a blessing compared to Sissy who treated her employees & customers like dirt. Kristi has a sincere smile, is genuinely happy to see locals and newcomers and works to accommodate private luncheons/dinners. Foodies beware! Lunch was underwhelming! The service was incredibly slow. My Cobb salad was supposed to come with avocado, but they forgot to put it on. It wasn't worth complaining. And the balsamic vinegar cork was falling apart in my hands. Our garlic fries were underdone. And the limited menu was mainly sandwiches and salads, with no nod toward modern dining tastes which lean toward having gluten-free options. It was actually very casual and not too snobby - some people show up in t-shirts. Most are in golf clothing. And there was no background music! The place seriously needs redecorating. It's got a tasteful midcentury modern design with vaulted ceilings and what used to be brown wood beams, which have since been painted. I think they ought to go with that midcentury style to give the place proper ambiance. The man said it was "surprisingly shabby." Some of the acoustical tiles in the women's locker room were sagging. They've made some poor design choices. The chandeliers appear to have been updated in the 1990s, mismatched, and have mismatched fluorescent bulbs. I can't think of anything tackier. And the impressive fireplace was sponge painted (let's hear it for the 90s!) They ought to go with the whole midcentury look to reswankify it. There is a nice view from the large windows, though they ought to have had someone out there cleaning up all of the balls that speckled the landscape. I've heard the food is supposed to be good for dinner, but I'm not sure I would go back since lunch was so disappointing and the atmosphere & service left so much to be desired. Sage Restaurant and Bar - New American Near Me - Lompoc, California

We attempted to go to this place on a weeknight for dinner (at normal dinner time). We wandered in as the door was open but no one was there. After a few minutes, someone told us the restaurant is closed weekdays but the bar was open. The bar really is a bar (not somewhere you can take kids) so FYI you should go on a weekend if you are going for the restaurant. I did not find the staff very friendly or helpful. We have yet to try the food but if the opportunity presents itself I will update this review. read more

Place is a real pleasure to visit. I must say I don't care for the open seating in the main dining area. Too much like a convention hall or cafeteria. There is beautiful views of the golf course all around you, but they just need to break it up into sections for slightly more private dining. Now the BAR area is absolutely fabulous. It's where we always sit. Same beautiful views but with a Rocky fireplace and we usually sit at the bar then move to one of the pub tables. Drinks are stiff, great local beers on tap, and the food....the food is exceptional. Anything on the menu from veggie appetizers to (my favorite) the pork belly entree, fish and steak specials, and great fancy deserts. A gem. read more

I had my wedding and reception here at Sage without even physically seeing the venue until the day of. I am so impressed with the professionalism and personal touch of Kristie and the staff at Sage. From the moment I called to ask questions, Kristie was so sweet and helpful. She was available to me to ask questions and kept in good contact throughout the planning phase. Our little ceremony was perfect by the pond and the scenery made for beautiful pictures. The restaraunt was the perfect size for our 20 person party. We had the best time and are so grateful that we found Sage! Food was amazing, atmosphere romantic, and service was on point. Thanks again!! read more

Sage Restaurant and Bar provided a nice little reception for my family and I after my grandfathers funeral recently. It was the perfect set up and we had the restaurant to ourselves to enjoy each others company and share memories. The food was exceptional and tasted so fresh. We had the bruschetta (a little heavy on the garlic, but I love garlic so it didn't phase me), meatballs with peach BBQ sauce, and the spring rolls. All of it was phenomenal! We also had FRESH fruit that was the perfect fit with our little appetizers. The lemon bars and brownies were tasty too! The staff, I can't remember their names, were very cordial and always knew when to check back in with us. It was a wonderful experience and we all enjoyed being back at the Village Country Club to celebrate the life of my grandfather. Thank you again Sage for providing a welcoming and heartwarming atmosphere! If I ever return to Lompoc, I will be sure to visit here again. read more

Love, love, love the FOOD here!!! I have eaten here at least five times!!! The shrimp cocktail was chilled to perfection and accompanied by freshly made cocktail sauce for dipping!!! So nice to not have bottled sauce!!! The local Halibut was grilled to perfection, plated with grilled asparagus and baby potatoes! Don't even get me started on the mashed POTATOES!!! Yummy! There is a wonderful chicken breast that was so tender and juicy that I couldn't wait to go back!! The soup of the day has been so wonderful each time that I have ordered. Such a great variety. So, Kudos to the Executive Chef Chris...who is a visionary in the kitchen and a master of YUM!! High beamed dining room has a beautiful view on the golf course . To some it may seem like a banquet hall but I like the indoor/outdoor feel. Good choice of loal wine by the glass ( or bottle) I had a meat and cheese appetizer plate along with a few glasses of wine. After reading my review, the owner, Kristie took the time to contact me and invite us back, on the house. we returned, unannounced. I have to say, the second time around was a much nicer experience. the trout was prepared excellently, very fresh. I just adore the pear walnut salad. Service was much better, just don't be in a rush. My husband was also pleased with his prosciutto goat cheese flat bread. creme brulee to die for... thank you for the gift, Kristie. Let me preface this review by saying that we had heard great things about Sage and were expecting to have a wonderful experience. That is definitely not what we got. If I could have rated Sage a zero, I would have. The nicest word I can think of to describe the hostess is meretritcious. It seemed like she was doing us some great favor to say hello and show us to our seat. I have been a hostess for a much busier restaurant for two years and I understand the importance of first impressions and greeting every guest with a smile. The hostess at Sage apparently does not. Her eyes were rimmed with so much black eye liner, it looked more like war paint than make up. I also felt that her blouse was too low cut for a "fine dining" establishment. The rest of the staff was dressed very professionally, all in black. I wondered why the hostess would be allowed to wear such a revealing top while working. Weaving her way through the dining room on her flip flops, she led us to what I can only assume was our table because never said another word to us. It was as if we didn't exist. She casually tossed the menus down on the table, the whole time having a loud and inapproprate conversation with a gentleman at the bar, some 12 feet away. It made me very uncomfortable. She was already walking away from us, oblivious to the effect her brashness was having on me and some of the other guests. We waited for about ten minutes for someone to take our drink order or to even acknowledge our presence before my boyfriend actually got up and went to the bar, where he waited another ten minutes. When the bar tender finally appeared behind the bar, stinking so bad from cigarette smoke that I could smell it from my seat, she walked right past him and helped the group of older gentlemen who were gathered at the far end. In my opinon, some of them probably didn't need anymore to drink. As I said, the bar was only 12 feet from where I sat and their conversation was appalling! I could not believe that they dared say all these disgusting things loud enough for the bar tender to hear. I expected her to admonish them or to at least suggest that they watch their language in mixed company. Something! And then she opened her mouth. I have never heard a woman speak that way. You would have thought I was in the alleyway behind a truck stop, not a fancy restaurant at a Country Club. I've heard a dirty joke or two, but the awful stream of oscenities spewing from her mouth actually hurt my ears. She also thought it was the height of wit, her sharp chuckles loudest in the din. By the time she finished her filthy rant and finally prepared our cocktails, a full half an hour had passed since we walked in the door and every additional minute made me regret that decision more and more. As he returned with our drinks, I watched the bar tender as she blatantly ogled him from behind. Believe me, I was more than ready to get up, walk out and make a quick stop at Taco Bell on the way back into town. My wonderful boyfriend reminded me that what we had actually heard about Sage was how amazing the food was and not to let a couple desperate women derail our "fabulous" evening out. I murmured an acquiescense and began thumbing through the menu. It wasn't long before we encountered the next problem: we seemed to be seated in every server's blind spot. There were plenty of people scurrying about, but none would actually make any eye contact. No one ever came to take our order. After I choked down a subpar Lemon Drop Martini and wasted an hour of my life, my boyfriend fianlly managed to flag down a busser. The poor kid looked as scared as an abused puppy when he asked to speak to the manager. He was able to squeak out the word "owner" as he jabbed his finger over towards the front door. But the only person over that way was the haughty hostess. Then it dawned on me. The hostess with the mostest (showing) was the owner! This information just confused me. I've always believed that you should "dress to impress", not only in the work place but at all times. A lesson women of a certain age should have already learned. Waiting once more for her or anyone to address our complaint was more than I could bare. I begged my man to take me any where else. He didn't want to feel invisible any more, either, so he approached the bar to pay for our 2 drinks. Just so the mousy mixologist knew she was out of her league, I walked up behind him an placed some cash on the bartop. As she took it, I noticed she was far from dextrous. The usual adroitness of a Pintswoman was absent here and she returned my change with shaky hands. She mumbled something unintelligeable, probably unkind, as we made our way outside. Sage may very well have the best food in the Central Coast. All of California, for that matter. I will never know. I will never go back there. What the owner of Sage failed to demonstrate to me is this: customer service is all about how to best service the customer. Every customer. read more

Wonderful food and great wine selection. Service is always very good. I also appreciate that there is a full bar. Some of our favorite dishes are their flat bread pizzas, the sea bass, prime rib, and pastas. The only bummer is that the ambiance is a little outdated but the views are amazing! read more

Chris Jones, Executive Chef of Sage Restaurant is knocking the ball out of the park with this country club oasis dining room. If you are looking to step it up here in Lompoc, change it up or traveling and looking for a delicious meal, Sage is your destination. His entree's will not disappoint. The specials are always outstanding, and hands down, sell out. Chris is a master with his sauces, perfectly prepared veggies, and every dish is prepared to order. Tip, get there early if you'd like to indulge in a special! Not your usual country club environment, as it open to the public, and no snobbery at the door. The dining room is sprinkled with many club members and locals driving up the hill for a great dining experience. Kristi, owner and proprietor is always there to great you with her warm and exuberant personality. She is always wanting to hear about your experience. Sage is fine dining, with a casualness, as it is overlooking the golf course, and you are welcome in your course attire. No discrimination in the attire area, at all. The staff is snappy in black, and appropriately groomed, with attention to detail in your service. The bar is well stocked with an excellent selection of local central coast wines. Desserts, OMG!
