I cannot say enough good things about Dave and Bristlecone Tree Care, although I am certainly going…read moreto make a serious attempt. My husband and I own a two-acre mountain property in Nathrop that we absolutely love and plan to keep forever. When several trees were affected by pine beetle kill, we needed a company that could safely remove them without unnecessarily damaging the surrounding forest or making the rest of the property look as though a logging operation and a small tornado had joined forces. From the beginning, Dave was exceptional. He handled all of the arrangements, communicated clearly about the work, and was responsive, knowledgeable, and easy to deal with throughout the entire process. He was also on-site for the job, which gave me enormous confidence that everything we had discussed would be handled exactly as promised. It was, and then some. Dave and his two crew members worked tirelessly all day removing the affected trees, chipping the material, and hauling everything away. Some of the trees were located in steep, heavily wooded sections of the property that I genuinely did not believe they could reach with their equipment. They reached them. I am still not entirely sure how. Watching Dave and the crew climb and maneuver through the trees was honestly incredible. "Spider-Man with chainsaws" may not be the technical industry term, but it is the most accurate description available to me. They worked efficiently while still being exceptionally careful with the surrounding trees, terrain, and property. Dave communicated with me throughout the day, kept me informed about what they were doing, and never made me feel as though I was bothering him by asking questions. Every member of the crew was polite, professional, patient, and kind. What mattered most to me was the care they showed our property. This is not simply a house and two acres to us. It is a place we treasure, and Dave clearly understood that. He and his crew worked as though protecting the property was just as important as completing the job. Their pricing was also incredibly reasonable, particularly given the amount of labor, the difficult terrain, the equipment required, and the level of expertise involved. They completed a tremendous amount of challenging work in a single day and left the property clean, safe, and well cared for. I would trust Dave and Bristlecone Tree Care with our property again without hesitation. Anyone in Nathrop, Buena Vista, Chaffee County, or the surrounding Central Colorado area who needs tree removal, pine beetle mitigation, fire mitigation, or forest health work should call them. Exceptional people, exceptional work, and exactly the kind of local company you hope to find.

At the same time, we eliminate the need for large crews conducting dangerous and time consuming labor operations, while inherently damaging area around them. At APEX, we have invested in the most efficient, advanced, and environmentally friendly equipment available. Our specialty machinery does everything we need with just one machine and one operator. A single Land Management package can simultaneously remove harmful vegetation, fell trees, mulch the material into fine shreds, and redeposit it back across the area. It removes invasive plant life that draws too much water, allowing the forest and other plants to get more moisture and draw more nutrients. Our machine's rubber tracks reduce Maneuver Damage to almost nothing. Our machines also remove stumps and stems at the same time as they remove the unwanted plants. The mulching process deliberately destroys invasive plants and harmful insect infestations. By cutting the unwanted vegetation down to ground level without ripping up the roots, we limit erosion and maintain soil integrity. The shredded vegetation we leave behind, re-fertilizes the soil through decomposition and the re-absorption of nutrients back into the earth. The shredded material also helps retain moisture which again stimulates healthy growth, benefits the wildlife habitation, and acts as a natural fire break.

Robbie Layman Tree Service - Oops

    Robbie Layman Tree Service

My HOA recently used Layman for some tree and limb cutting work to meet fire safety and insurance…read morerequirements and the results were abysmal.     My main complaint involves two instances of extreme and unnecessary over-limbing.    In one, they needlessly decimated a beautiful 25 year old aspen tree in my front yard morphing it into the mangled wretch of a "half-tree" shown in the photos.  The tree now looks more like a fake facade that looks OK from the front until you view it from the other three sides...   Most of the backside, except for the very top, was completely sheared off - leaving behind an ugly looking, off-kilter tree which looks like it wants to teeter over.    What is even more infuriating about this hack job is that it was completely preventable.  Before it happened, I met personally with the owner of the company, Robbie Layman, and basically begged him to trim as minimally as possible, yet I received a dismissive, brush off attitude back.   And when I came home later in the day, this is what was left.   To say that this was done to meet fire separation requirements is complete baloney because nothing else in the 8-building complex was limbed this far back in this manner. Branches extend close to and practically touch structures in many places throughout the complex and in the case of building E are still in direct contact with the rooftop... How is that fire mitigation?! I now have this 10-foot overkill void strip. And when I expressed my shock and awe to Mr Layman after seeing the mess for the first time, Mr Layman's response was a flip, bratty "well as I am a professional arborist, I guess that we just have different expectations."  How obnoxious! The second instance of butchery involves a spruce tree that was limbed half the way up. In this instance, they were supposed to trim the bottom limbs for fire protection, not 7 feet up the tree. Mr Layman admitted that it was an oops when I asked him about it just afterwards. The employee got carried away and went too far, apparently. Unfortunately, the complex gets stuck with this silly looking thing. See before and after photos.   In conclusion, the 'service' was disgraceful, permanent and is a painful reminder every time I look at it - which is every day.   I tried to prevent this, but Layman did it anyway and now I have to live with the consequence while he got paid for it.  Disgusted!

He succeeded on our HOA expectations and even accommodated other homeowners requests to leave a previously marked tree but trim it to meet fire safety code Instead. On top of it, he remained very professional with every single homeowner he had encounters with. If you are in need of tree service I suggest calling Layman Tree service first!
