I cannot begin to tell you the number of times I have "settled" for a haircut or flat out grew my hair longer just to avoid having another bad experience. That is, until I sat in Georgina's chair and got the hands-down best stylist experience I have ever had. From the skills to the space and insistence on you leaving satisfied, your strands are safe in her hands. The Space Within a cozy business plaza just across from the theater on Newberry, Georgina's personal chair sits nestled inside a very clean, well-decorated shared space. The concept at this location is less "sea of cookie-cutter chairs, all side-by-side" and more "private, comfortable areas to just chat and relax". It is so private, in fact, that I do not see the faces of any other stylists who also work their magic while visiting, nor other patrons getting styled. Perhaps people-watchers like the communal approach, but I love this isolation. Getting your hair done is even more relaxing when other noise and chatter are gone, plus if you have been going to the same expert for years you are likely to want to catch up with them. The Service Let me start by saying I have not just gone "to the same place for years." I have been seeing the same PERSON for years (roughly 3 years I believe). Apart from her skills, which I will go into soon, Georgina is a genuinely thoughtful, patient person. She never fails to offer amenities for those who like a beverage or coffee to make their experience even more of a value, so keep that in mind if you are thinking of paying her a visit. For me, even before she took on her own space, it was clear she had incredible "chair-side manner" with her visitors. Effortless conversation if you are the type, but I imagine even those who are not chatty would feel comfortable relaxing quietly while getting spruced up. The Styles Did I mention the double crowns and cowlick? Having had such troublesome experiences with chains and other alternatives, I asked a friend who styled hair if she would take me on. Her response (approximately): "I honestly am not as strong at men's cuts as Georgina. She's a rockstar and you should seriously book her." I did just that, and she was not wrong. I sat down, expressed my woes of the past: lop-sided, off-kilter, unruly, etc. Georgina heard me and, in a flash, turned those fears into a clean, slick, downright fly-AF haircut I was proud to walk away sporting. I even managed to convince my girlfriend to see her and she was extremely attached to an out-of-town stylist -- and she loved her 'do too! Final Thoughts At the risk of making Georgina too busy to ever see me again, I encourage anyone looking for a long-term, careful stylist to book her ASAP. Her work speaks for itself in pictures, but as someone looking to just get a decent haircut against the odds of my genetic traits, I am telling you she can make magic happen.

I was skeptical of someone who says they can "do it all" but she genuinely can. I've come to her for natural styles (which she is so creative that it's unbelievable) silk presses, and full and natural leave out sew-ins. I've had her do feeder braids too. Courtney is professional, available to make an appointment the week of, and her prices are affordable. She uses professional products that have helped my hair retain moisture when it's otherwise very dry. Including Courtney, there are two stylists here and Novice does good work too. It's been some time since I've been a client at Tecnicolors, so take this review as not a recent,…read moreone-time specific, review, but a review built on years of going to Tecnicolors from when I was in high school to fairly recently. I don't go to them currently for cuts and color, but I have nothing against them save the few things I mention below. The Seagle Building location is simply splendid and the salon is lovely and it's pretty posh for Gainesville. Two incidents however with Tecnicolors stay in my mind, and they weren't horrible but still were kinda funny and slightly disturbing: First, one stylist I got when my long-time fave Rose left the salon (and town) was from Bulgaria. She was truly a sweetheart but ummmm . . . her English was badly lacking. Seriously. It was between her grasp of English and mine of Russian and some help from another stylist that we got through my haircut. This lady could, however, most certainly cut hair: problem was just communicating HOW I wanted mine cut for her to do her job. Second incident: with another stylist, I asked if I could get her to color my hair cobalt blue . . . see, I figured if I was going to do crazy color, I had best at least get a pro to do it and where better than at a salon called Tecnicolors? A friend who is a stylist in another city also suggested that I go to an Aveda salon (which Tecnicolors is) for such a wild color job because Aveda makes colorants that would do the trick perfectly. When I asked her about this, she said that yes, Aveda made the colorants to do what I wanted, but she couldn't do it at Tecnicolors because if some of that blue color got in their pale wooden floors it would dye them and wouldn't come out. Seriously? I mean they do red don't they and that also would have the capacity to ruin the floor, no? In any case, she suggested I talk to a stylist she knew at The Strand salon and see if that person would do it . . . The Strand is also an Aveda salon. So . . . my opinion of Tecnicolors as someone who has been a now-and-then client on and off for over 15 years? They know their stuff, they have a good salon going, and they probably can do what you request (except maybe blue hair!) so give them a shot. The two stories above notwithstanding, 90% of the time I've gone there for cut or color, they've done a stellar job.
