I just moved to Gainesville recently and was in need of a hair cut. Out of all the places I googled, Tecnicolors seemed like the best option because of their international education and unique approach to hair. I didn't want to go to a salon that makes everyone look the same. I was a bit hesitant due to a few bad reviews about Duane and the receptionist. However, upon meeting both of them, I was shocked at the level of professionalism in this salon. I felt like I was at a celebrity salon in NYC. After walking in, I was greeted by Jill who smiled and brought me a glass of ice water. She introduced me to the Master stylist Duane who was genuinely interested in my vision for my hair. His artistic expression and mastery of hair cutting made my hair turn out so much better than I imagined. For someone who has never stepped outside of my comfort zone, I am more than happy I trusted Duane with my transformation from extremely long hair to an avant garde geometric bob. I went to see Duane after another stylist had tried to make me a "blonde". My hair was a strange red-orangey color and I was a little more than wary of going to yet another stylist and having to put more chemicals on my head for uncertain results. Turns out I had nothing to worry about at all. Duane sat me down and really listened to me in regards to what had already been done to my hair, what I didn't like about it, and what I would like it to look like. We talked in great depth about varying shades of blonde, what would look good on me, and what was most realistic for me at that point in time. I have to say it was one of the best coloring experiences ever. (Not to mention the amazing cut he gave me after)! My new blonde hair was absolutely perfect. It is THE exact shade that I wanted all along. AND my hair still feels great on top of everything else. Duane took such good care of me and my hair. I have been going to Tecnicolors for about ten years now. My hair is quite difficult to cut as I have a very strong cowlick in the back that sticks out if not treated just right! It has also become much curlier in the past five years. And to top it all off, it's hard to color because it has a red undertone. Duane Tully, the owner, does my hair and it not only looks great (and natural), he's managed to tame the cowlick, neutralize the red undertone, and take my actual current color (was once blonde back in the day, now an awful cold mouse brown) and warm it and make it the base color, and then add dimension and lightness with blonde strands. The best thing is that since the base color is now a warmed-up, far better version of the actual shade, it can grow out for six weeks or more. In fact, I was traveling in Europe for 9 straight weeks this spring and early summer and all I did was some minimal trimming in the front, and my hair still looked good when I came home (if a bit shaggy!)! read more

I am a long time client of Tecnicolors and a total fan! I have thick hair with a challenging 'cowlick'. Every stylist I have seen at Tecnicolors has given me a good cut and style and I happily refer people to the salon. I visited the salon yesterday and the experience was exceptional. As I was leaving another client stopped me and commented on the cut and style. Today I was stopped on the street by someone wanting to know who cuts my hair, of course I referred her to Tecnicolors. Besides having excellent stylists, the salon is located in the historic Segal building with lovely decor and amenities. Every client is greeted with an offer of a refreshment and a smile...and I happily tipped my stylist and scheduled another appointment as I left the salon yesterday. I Love tecnicolors so much that I drive in from st. Augustine to get my hair done. I love the atmosphere and talented stylists. Most of the time I don't know what I want done with my hair. my color and cut make me feels so pretty. People are always asking me where I get my hair done. Both of my boys (6&9) have been getting their hair cut at Tecnicolors since their first cut. They always look so handsome afterwards. Everyone on staff always makes us feel welcome and takes the time to make us feel special. I like the easy parking at the Seagle Building. I like downtown Gainesville. When I am in the salon on university avenue, with the traffic going by, I get a big city feeling and am transported to another place as I let my thoughts drift and enjoy my head massage during the hair wash !! After going through a number of stylists at another salon down the street (who all seemed to relocate in short time), I found Technicolors. The salon is nice, front desk staff are super lovely, but Rochelle keeps me coming back. I've seen her for going on a year now, and couldn't be happier with my color and cuts. I'm probably on the pickier side when it comes to my hair, so I'm thrilled to have found someone who really knows what she's doing - my hair takes color in weird (and super inconsistent) ways, but I always leave the salon loving what she's done.I appreciate that Rochelle wants to get the style just right, not only for my sake but because she's really invested in doing a killer job. I live in the Connecticut / New York area and I've been to a lot of high end salons over the past few years. Technicolors is truly a treasure, and in my experience no salon has been able to measure up. It is because of this that I always wait until I come back to Gainesville to visit family to get my hair cut. Duane usually does my men's haircut, and he does an unparalleled job-- he definitely has a talent for layering and shaping hair in a way that makes you feel like a runway model when you walk out of the salon. My stylist is Angela. I have been going to her for the past 2 years, following her without hesitation when she moved to Tecnicolors. She never disappoints, hair- or conversation-wise. For many years I was with a hairdresser who I followed from salon to salon. When she moved away I was at a loss of where to get my hair cut. Upon the recommendation of some friends I decided to try Technicolors. It has been a marvelous experience both in overall customer service (outstanding!) and the quality of the cut.
