Visiting from New York, my daughter in law and granddaughter took me to Sagewood for lunch. I was told it had the best sandwiches and soup in town. I was not disappointed with the made from scratch mushroom soup and roast beef sandwich. The breads are the best along with an iced chai with shots of espresso. So good. This place is the best place for a wholesome lunch and a great dessert! They serve lunch only. Mostly sandwiches and soup. There is usually at least on daily vegetarian soup choice and two non-vegetarian choices. The food is all homemade and made with love. The pies are to die for! We have been in town on business for a while, and this is the best place for lunch period. The food is fresh, and homemade. They make their own bread, soups & deserts. Plus they have daily specials. Number one place for lunch in Buffalo. We were seated within five minutes even though seating area was packed. I had the daily wrap with jalapeños, raspberry and turkey. Excellent lunch on our way through town. It's a quaint cafe in the back of a gift shop on the main downtown Street. I had cup of chicken vegetable soup and half of a chicken Mediterranean salad (the salad special of the day). The sun-dried tomato dressing was amazing, the greens were fresh, olives and feta cheese all tasted fresh and the presentation was nice. It came with a slice of homemade bread that had been spread with a garlic herb butter - delicious. My husband and I spit a piece of French silk pie - very smooth and tasty. I debated giving this place two stars, but it's a shade better than that, and when you consider the options in Buffalo, it looks a lot better. The one word that came to mind after eating lunch at this place is "adequate." The prices are good, the bread for the sandwiches is homeade (and pretty good), and the sandwich itself was fine. I had the "Midnite Ranger" sandwich, which was pretty decent, and had a nice peppercorn sauce to liven it up a bit. Given the other options in Buffalo, I will likely eat here again. Everyone else in our party seemed to feel more or less the same. Very solid, but nothing really spectacular. My sister-in-law declared the "Dillicado" sandwich "worthy of mention." read more

What a wonderful surprise!! In the back of a gift shop one would never think they would find such a gem!! My husband and I split sandwiches-- tarragon chicken salad and a smoked turkey with curry spread and black black olives. The sandwich rolls are made in house and are perfect for the sandwiches they serve! We each had a cup of soup, also made in house, so good! I had Italian wedding soup and hubby had potato. Great little cafe for lunch. Ingredients were all very fresh, homemade, healthy and delicious. I had the Waldorf salad which was a special that day. Great mix of fresh chicken breast, apples, grapes and walnuts. My companion had a smoked turkey sandwich on a homemade bun. We both had a cup of the chicken chili soup. It was also homemade and very yummy. We loved the fact that they allow half orders on sandwich and certain other items. The cheesecake looked fantastic but we were too full to try it. Just grabbed lunch at Sagewood Cafe on a road trip to Jackson Hole. This small restaurant, obviously a local favorite based on the clientele's relationship with the staff and each other, delivers outstanding food that is fairly priced and delivered by friendly servers. Gem of a place - Located in the rear of a gift store, this Cafe has wonderful, very tasty food and awesome staff. I b ordered the special of the day, a Russian Egg Salad sandwich on gluten free nut bread and a cup of Thai chicken soup. Food was served within 5 minutes of placing my order. They make a heck of a sandwich and wonderful soup. They provide good service, and will take "to go" orders. They have a great variety of sandwiches that should meet most people's preferences. They have great soups and though I haven't tried any I would expect their salads to be good as well. The atmosphere isn't great (reminds me of a small cafeteria) and the kids' menu is small and not very good (my three year old hasn't liked any of the options). All in all, I enjoy the food and usually get it to go and would recommend it for lunch. read more
