Unfortunately, this visit was disappointing. There were multiple loud phone conversations, including repeated profanity and threatening language, which made it difficult to concentrate. The fifth floor also had no air conditioning during my visit, making the space uncomfortably hot and not conducive to working for any length of time. I genuinely enjoy public libraries, so I'm hoping I just happened to visit on an off day. Based on this experience, however, I left with a negative impression.

One of the first things I noticed was how spacious the library feels. Everything looked clean and well maintained, which made it a really comfortable place to settle in and focus. There was actually already a line of people waiting outside for the library to open at 1 PM on Sunday, which says a lot about how popular it is. One feature I thought was especially cool is their seed library, where you can pick up seeds to plant your own plants at home. They also offer the usual cultural passes, which is always a great perk with a library card. Speaking of that, I really liked how unique their library card designs are. I was able to sign up for a card today thanks to a very helpful staff member who made the process quick and easy. Inside, there were plenty of tables and outlets almost everywhere, which made it perfect for getting work done. There is also a free charging center where you can charge devices. Parking was also simple. I parked at the Scottsdale Civic Center Garage, which made access really convenient. Overall, I was very happy with my visit today and will definitely be coming back.

I asked an employee who confirmed the same thing. She went to the back to check their intake. She came back saying she didn't know where the book is and that I can put a hold for it. This is a singular occurrence, but in frustration I would imagine with the technology used in libraries now for finding and coding books, that it would be relatively simple to find a book that is listed as available, but if I'm wrong then let me know.

They have a coffee shop, classrooms, PC areas, puzzle tables, fax copy print area, etc. Very nice staff member got my friends set up with library cards and their first set of free tickets to a museum using the Culture Pass. They are a cooling center. They have elevators and wide aisles that are wheelchair friendly. I didn't realize I can get a Tempe Library Card even though I'm not a Tempe resident. I will be getting my card soon so I can use their seed Library.... if they have one. I'm excited to go back and explore a little bit. The Mesa branch also has a print out of the monthly events calender but this one is on line only. My friends are almost 80 and prefer a print version. I go to the Mesa Dobson Branch Library and I wish they would upgrade that one as the smell of wet carpet hits you from the first moment you walk in.

Cons: Furniture and equipment are worn out, it's not that quiet (people talking, eating, playing music), seating and computers are too close together (I don't want to be sitting that close to anyone at the library), people using the study rooms talk so loudly that you can hear their entire conversation in the next room over. Semi-private does NOT mean soundproof! It also smells bad at times, and every time I visit, I catch some guy staring at me as if he's never seen a woman before, which puts me on guard despite security presence. Unfortunately for me, the cons outweigh the pros. And whatever happened to the days when libraries were meant to be quiet? People treat libraries like hang-out spots now and library staff don't even bother to quiet them or uphold a level of respect for people trying to read and study anymore.

Currently, this location has extended hours due to their heat relief program so they're open til 9pm. I'm not here for heat relief but appreciate that those not needing it can still benefit with the continued full services being offered. I drove 30 min here since they are the only location open. Overall, it's been comfortable, clean, quiet and a pleasant visit. The staff is kind and accommodating with great customer service and it's a spacious, amenity abundant location. I've been to near all Scottsdale and Phoenix public libraries so I'm in the know and this the spot to a go go go!

This library is architecturally very cool, but they don't have a Drive Thru Book Drop; I feel like this could have been an easy addition on the backside, and am disappointed they don't because getting out and dropping books in the heat of the Summer totally blows. The kids classes are really fun and are First Come First Served. Right now is the Summer Reading Program and lots of fun to get your kid reading. There is a lot of parking here, but I highly advise to lock up your vehicle, and keep your valuables out of the car, or out of sight. There are some transients that hang out front, but they're harmless; mostly there for a water bottle in the Summer time.

But the summers, when the girls are here for an extended stay, this is our home away from home. We will often ride our bikes down, and just hang out in the air conditioned comfort, playing games, or reading books. Sometimes the girls will do some computer-based activities, and I'll catch up on Facebook or Twitter, on my iPhone. One of the things I love about Phoenix area libraries is the Culture Pass; you "check out" a culture pass and get free tickets and admission to area museums, including the Heard, the Bead museum, etc. There is plenty of parking, and several bike racks available. Go and check it out!
