We ended up eating here three times owing to the freshness and flavor of their authentic Vietnamese fare. The spring rolls and summer rolls were outstanding. The udon with tofu, the lemongrass tofu, and the mango-pineapple curry were standouts. It is a great place right on the main drag of Heidelberg. We wish we had such a great Vietnamese place back in Milwaukee. It's a shame that we have to go all the way to Germany to find outstanding Vietnamese cooking. But, given that German food isn't remotely vegetarian-friendly, Saigon Sonne was a wonderful discovery. read more

My good buddy J who lives in Heidelberg these past dozen years considers this one of the very best restaurants in town for us vegans dining at an omnivore establishment. I had a terrific dinner here on Wed., Aug 30, 2023. The vegetable rolls w peanut sauce were excellent for a starter, and the two entrees we split-- 1) the yellow curry sauce tofu with vegetables and 2) the udon noodles with tofu -- were absolutely delicious, spiced and cooked to perfection. The ambience is very good, with tasteful modern Asian decor in the interior and street-side tables for those who prefer people-watching on the bustling Hauptstraße / cobbled main street. The restaurant sits very close to the Heiliggeistkirche (Holy Spirit Church) for added atmosphere. read more

Definitely one of the most bougie Vietnamese restaurant I've ever been to. It was a busy Friday night, and just about every place down the streets and around the corner requires a reservation. Since this was a spontaneous stop for us, we decided to just go for some casual (or what I assumed Viet food to be) dinner that we wouldn't have to do the most to have. I was right about not needing any reservations. They were able to seat us right away. The service was unattentive, but friendly enough. They have two sizes to almost every item, a starter size and an entrée size. The prices here are a bit on the outrageous side especially for what it is. But it's all about locations sometimes and this restaurant sits in the middle of a very busy street filled with people and festivities. A soda alone was 4.50eur. Apparently they offered different sizes for that as well, but did not ask me to specify which when I ordered. I ordered the Mien Ga (starter size) and a Bun Bo La Lot, also starter size. The Mien Ga was a tiny portion for a not so tiny price. Although it is tasty, it is a bit hard to judge accurately on literally two bites because that's all the portion was good for. My second order never came out even though we were there for quite some time. We did ask about it and waited some more for nothing. I was looking for a place to eat in Heidelberg that wasn't pasta or any type of German food as I had been on vacation in Germany for a while. Then I came across this place and I saw the menu and totally went for it! I'm glad that I did. I got the chicken combination noodle platter and it was absolutely delicious. The sushi here also looks really great. I like the service provided by the staff the food came out really quick. There is WiFi and on a rainy day it was just warm enough for me to rest a while and continue about my day. Great place. Accepts cards. read more

We had the duck spring rolls, some lemon grass chicken and a mixed seafood plate with fries noodles. Because it was also thanksgiving, we had the sweet potatoes for dessert. After having eating German food most of the days, I have been craving a more light meal with fresh veggies. I found this Vietnamese resto amongst all the European bistros. Their menu was more than Pho which was great since the weather had been really hot out to eat hot soup. I had ordered the grilled chicken bun plate. It was such a refreshing change in the food I had been eating since my first day in Germany. I was given excellent service and the food was delicious. I was also given a gratis shot of plum wine after my meal which was very nice. Reasonable prices as well. I would recommend this bistro to anyone visiting. read more

Decent pho and generous portion of vietnamese dish. Lunch special runs from noon til 4pm. Nice ambiance. Pho has only two kinds of beef soup and ine chicken soup but both taste pretty good. Cones with plenty of meat and bean sprout. Good place for warm noodle soup in cold day. read more

A big sign showing they had Pho is what made me walk in. It was good but not worth 15 euros. The staff was very polite and helpful. The restaurant itself is clean and dead in the center of all the action in Heidelberg. If you are craving Pho or any other Vietnamese food, its defiantly worth stopping by. read more

I've been living in Europe for a while and Asian food has been the thing I miss the most living in southern Italy. I was in Heidelberg for the weekend and stumbled upon this place. It was excellent! Staff was super polite and attentive, food came out quickly (appetizers and the kid's meal almost within 2 minutes), and and everything was excellent. We got three different kinds of duck and they were all delicious. Bathrooms were clean, decor was tasteful, prices were reasonable. Great dining experience all around. I was touring europe with some friends and family, and we passed by this place. Craving vietnamese food, because we missed it back in the states. The duck there was amazing. Easily the best I've ever had. The waiter we had was funny and kind. We asked him if he spoke Vietnamese and to our surprise, he did. One of the girls in our group was feeling sick so we asked him for this asian medicine. He had that on hand. If I had the chance to come by, sit down, and eat. I would take it in a heartbeat.
