Enjoyed an afternoon out on the water on a tandem kayak with my two boys. Rental process was quick and there were plenty of kayaks available. I did not have a dry bag for my phone, and the staff kindly lent me one. We explored the coastline of Caladesi and Honeymoon Islands. The low tide was extreme, and it offered us lots of shelling on the sandbars (boater beware - getting stranded in the shallows is very possible). Would definitely recommend this little business on the causeway.

If you're just looking to rent a kayak for a few hours, it's a good location. They may not give you much personal attention, it seemed to be mostly a "thanks for paying, there are the boats, paddles, and life jackets, go have fun" kind of place. For many people, that's all you really need. I ended up opting for a fishing kayak which is more stabilized, and obviously you can have a fishing pole with you. That was because I wanted to take a nice camera out and wasn't sure if a normal kayak would be fine. I should've known from all my other kayaking experience that it would be - plus you're in a protected cove. The main waves are motorized boats passing by. If you're not fishing, I don't recommend using the fishing kayak because they are SLOW, like twice as slow as normal paddling. The area is great to paddle. The bay is mostly shallow and has very clear water. You may see dolphins and stingrays occasionally. If you want to check out the mangrove tunnels, you're gonna need to do the 4+ hr option though.

Great place to enjoy beach food and drink and watch a sunset. Or just watching lots of water activities.

Decided to have a leisurely day and leave my kayaks at home. Decided to just grab and go some kayak rentals from Thai spot on the causeway to celebrate my birthday with my best friend. I had packed lunch with all my snacks for the day excited to embark on a birthday adventure. This old guy assuming the owner told us we would have to wait due to possible lightning. So we said that's fine we'll get some food at the high and dry restaurant while we wait. I had my yeti full of ice water I prepared for my day due to the 90 deg weather. As I started walking up to the bar he lashed out at me and told me I couldn't bring outside beverages. I then stated to him that it was just water I had just brought for my day trip. He then looked at me and repeated, you still cannot bring it outside beverages, in a very rude tone. So I simply opened up my yeti and said fine, here no beverages and dumped out my water onto the sand. This crazy old guy then totally lost his shit. He looked at us with the most angry lil Beaty eyes and yelled "you're out!" You have to leave right now. It looked as if fire was coming out of this old man's ears. Never in my entire life have I seen or been to a place of business and been scolded like this. People, this guys rental is right on the beach, literally steps from the water. He totally lost his shit and was shaking so to anger from me pouring out some water onto a public sand causeway beach. Lol. Last time I checked pouring water in nature wasn't a crime. I can see a common denominator here that the owner is a complete psycho path with no cool. He looked at me with such anger and outrage. He's lucky my husband wasn't with me. Had I had more time in my day I honestly would have made a police report. I've worked in the area of Downtown Dunedin for the past 10 years in hospitality. I encounter all types of people on a daily basis. Never have a I ever treated someone with such disrespect. This business is wearing on you sir. You do not know how to handle people. Based on all your bad reviews and your Responses I can now see it had nothing to do with me and your just a hot head. I then walked up to high and dry to purchase a new water since this crazy old guy Owner made me dump mine out then asked me to leave. I will kindly leave and tell the hundreds of people I know in the area what a rude human you are. We then went 15 minutes to Philippe park and rented some super cool paddle boards that you just scan with your phone. Right on the bay with the most beautiful park with hiking trails. I suggest you go there you will have a much more enjoyable experience. Below are some photos of the nice paddle-boards I was able to rent from Philippe park.

I can only give 1 star to Sail Honeymoon. Were the 2 young guys at the counter nice? Sure, they checked us out, told us to look for the American Flag and if it was half way down to come in cause that means a storm and pointed out which two kayaks to take and what time to come back. But when getting to the kayaks, those were just being brought in by others that literally still had all their stuff in it and were standing around talking to each other. Umm, were we expected to ask them to move their stuff??? We were already on the clock for our 2 hour rental so now we are cutting into our time. I finally found a worker and said we were not coming back until the time we actually got to get on our kayaks. Also, giving the time we are in (COVID-19), I was actually pretty surprised that there was zero attempt to wipe down the kayak, you do actually touch the vessel itself too. Pricing... there are a ton of options on where to rent kayaks and this place was $35.00 for 2 hours... ahhh right across the little bay area in Honeymoon Island you can rent them for 3 hours for $30.00. The only reason we didn't go in there was because we got to the area late and there was a lineup to get into the park so decided to just pay the extra but I still thought it was a 3 hour rental, I was surprised to see it was only 2 hours once we got to the counter. So, yes my choice to still rent but not worth it. Customer Service via phone... So I actually experienced something pretty scary while out in the water. My boyfriend's kayak got flipped over from waves from all the boats, jet skis, etc zooming by at top speeds with no consideration to the kayaks or paddle boards and he was unable to get back into the kayak because of where he was (too deep to stand) and then there was a pretty good current that grabbed his kayak and he was separated from it. After watching him from the sandbar struggle and not be able to swim to the kayak due to the current, I called the company because MOST places that I have read up on have an option that if assistance is needed, they will charge you extra. Okay, so who cares about a extra charge when help is needed?!? So the guy that answered the phone could obviously tell in my voice I was scared and worried and he just continued to ask me questions like, where are we at... where am I compared to my boyfriend, what color is his kayak, etc, etc... kinda made a bunch of deep signs and THEN tells me that I will have to call 911 because he isn't on site to be able to come assist us or have anyone that could. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? You START with that, not waste my time with questions that are useless if you are unable to help. Thankfully, some nice people in a boat that were over on the sandbar saw what was going on with Ben and lifted anchor and went over to grab the kayak and then had him hold onto the side of the boat while they pulled him over to where he could stand. So yes, it is pretty once you are able to get over to the sandbar, Caladesi or Honeymoon but you gotta be able to get there first. The insane amount of boats and jet skis make it very difficult to get over there because from this rental location, you HAVE to cross that path. And Lord forbid anyone need help, don't call them, they will be of zero assistance and just waste your time in the process which could end in a very bad situation. THANK YOU to the nice people in the boat for your help and being decent humans when you saw assistance was needed and then refused anything in return!! ***Adding since I cannot reply to the comment from the owner Glen, who I also message privately*** Your only concern about this ENTIRE review was about sanitizing your stuff, which I only mentioned the kayak itself btw. SHAME ON YOU!!!! Even in our private message you could care less about the PART of the review that mattered! My boyfriend was in the middle of the boat area where they head out to go between Honeymoon and Caladesi if you actually read this correctly... so thank you for playing but please learn how to read correctly before adding in information that isn't true. I also said I HAD TO WAIT FOR THE PEOPLE TO GET THEIR STUFF OUT OF THEIR KAYAKS SO I COULD GET IN. How did any sanitation go on during that time? I was right there, not 90 seconds later. You're bedside manners as an owner with a customer that had a horrible experience with your company is unbelievable. I can however add a photo of my boyfriend being pulled into safer waters by a boat or in the middle of the boat area away from your kayak if you'd like to show that my review wasn't about being 10 feet from shore.

If you've ever thought about whether or not you should take a kayak out to Caladesi Island from the causeway - you should do it! We had a great time and will definitely be back! The water was super clear and mostly shallow! I also have to shout out Collin for being such a cool dude! We laughed out loud when we got home and realized you had taken a selfie of yourself before taking one of our group! Keep up the great attitude buddy! Thank you for giving us clear instructions for our safety and for meeting us at the shoreline as we returned from our trip!

Out of necessity, my swim relay team needed a beach to swim and practice getting in and out of a kayak in deep water. (I'm still looking to buy a tandem sit on top kayak) So, rentals seemed a good temporary solution. Sail Honeymoon is 3 miles away from my house, my teammates have been there, and they enjoyed it. After my second visit today, I confirmed we made the right decision. They open at 9am. We were on a mission and insured we got there minutes before they opened. After signing up for two hours rental (@$45), we completed the paperwork, given ample time to launch, and with two in the kayak and one swimming, headed to Caladesi Island. We took advantage of the two hours, got in our training, then returned to Sail Honeymoon. You can rent for more than two hours. The staff is excellent. They gave a great briefing before sailed and were at the shoreline to greet us and bring in the kayak. It was all an easy process! This is our training area even after I find the perfect tandem!

I've rented from here on two occasions now, regrettably the first time was about 18 months ago and it is amazing how quickly time goes by without appreciating the wonderful area I live in and thankfully renting a kayak (or SUP or sailboat) from here can quickly remind you this area is a treasure. Located right on the causeway you can park for free but do expect spots to be much further away on the weekends, holidays and later in the day. Both times the staff was very knowledgeable and actually I went a third time and they wouldn't rent me a kayak due to a pending storm. I thought they were crazy but trusted them and sure enough twenty minutes later there was a severe electrical storm that lasted an hour. They know the area well, they know the tides, they have a map of you want to head to the Caladesi kayak trails, you just have to ask questions. Both the tandem and single kayak I rented were in great shape and the seats were very comfortable. Finally the price is right. They have a monopoly here and can gouge on prices but don't in my opinion. Highly recommended.

Herman was a wonderful captain, and made navigating the water and under the bridges look easy. Herman was the captain and Sandy was helping him. First mate? Idk nautical terms. Sandy moved around the boat to provide us with complimentary refreshments (water and soft drinks) and food that we brought on ourselves. Everything was super easy from booking to meeting at the dock. Herman and Sandy were super chill. My friends and I lived our best lives just chatting and relaxing in the bean bag chairs at the front of the boat. While we were out, we also saw soo many dolphins! And after sunset, we were treated to fireworks in the distance (random luck, not part of the cruise lol). It was amazing. There's also a toilet on board if you need to relieve yourself. Otherwise, I brought a sandwich platter on board, but it was a bit rocky to pass them around to everyone. So next time, I think I'd make boxes of charcuterie to bring on board instead. Or just put sandwiches in bags. We had a great time, and wouldn't hesitate to go again!

Absolutely loved this island!…read more I have an annual pass for state parks so I didn't have to get into honeymoon island itself. A short drive to the paying booth for taking the ferry from honeymoon to caladesi. It is $20 dollars but they do take military discount too! The two guys on the boat are very funny guys. The captain loves to tell dad jokes and the other tells you fun facts about the islands. It's a short ride to caladesi. Once we arrived there was lots to explore however my friend and I just had a beach day. There is construction going on due to the past hurricanes but there is bathrooms, a cafe, and plenty of shade and trails! I can't wait to go back and explore more. The ferry takes off from honeymoon every hour and from caladesi every half hour. Highly recommend a day trip here!! Water is so nice.

Beautiful beach that has tons of shells…read more This beach is emptier than others because you have to take a ferry to get to it and you have a four hour limit. We aren't major beach people, but I got really interested recently in finding shells. We were at Clearwater Beach and didn't see a lot of shells so I did research into where we could find an abundance of shells and this was one of the beaches that popped up. They have so many shells, but all the shells are very similar. They are the clamshell looking type. So if you're looking for a variety of shells, I would suggest going elsewhere. However, I was super excited to find all of these shells. We ended up getting buckets full of them. You pay eight dollars to get into honeymoon State Park. Then you follow the signs to the parking lot where it is $20 per adult and $12 per child, five and under are free, for the ferry ride. The ferry ride is a boat that is actually quite fun for the children. It's about 10 minutes and in the morning, you can see dolphins and the ferry will stop to look at them. They can fit about 45 to 50 people on each boat, and they do fill up. The first boat is at 10 AM and leaves every half hour after that. You can rent two beach chairs and an umbrella for $35 and they have food and drinks that you can buy on the island. Since you can't bring carts most people travel light so we didn't bring shade or seats. Being that our whole goal was to find shells we weren't sitting much anyways. It is pretty empty. This is not a packed beach at all and we were there on a Saturday in the summer so prime beach season. The sand is white and fine and the water is beautiful. If you're looking for a beach that isn't that crowded I would highly recommend coming here.
