Rented single kayaks from Sail On Honeymoon. They appeared to be the most reasonably priced outfit based on a quick google search. We got a quick tutorial on where to paddle, and where not to, and they let us use a dry bag for our personal items, which was appreciated (and they didn't charge extra). If you like sailing this is an interesting place to go. They rent and sell trimarans made by windrider. We rented the 17 footer on a Saturday when the wind was blowing at about 18 mph. WHAT A BLAST!! While very easy to handle they can go very fast. There were some Hobie cats out at the same time, and they were only marginally faster, while the trimaran is virtually un-capsizeable. One steers with the feet and handles the jib and main with the hands. Everything is very ergonomical, resulting in a stress-free but wild ride. Two hours cost $70 (the smaller boats are cheaper, but have only a main sail). A great deal considering the $9k purchase price of the machines! The staff is friendly and they provide you with PFDs and sealed bags for your valuables. read more

Went with a friend to kayak for the first time, on Saturday September 6th 2014. The staff explained different packages and helped us pick out what was best for us. Everyone was very friendly and (even though I forgot to mention it was our first time) went through everything we needed to know that would help us have an amazing experience....like how to get in, best ways to paddle, gave us a waterproof bag so we could put our stuff in, even had our kayaks ready for us by the water. An awesome spot to get some time on the water. I really loved paddling out to Caladesi and the launch site is a straight shot! The guys are quite helpful and gave me some tips on when and where to head to. The kayaks are sturdy enough and some have compartments for gear and dry bags. I recommend hitting the water early when it's quiet. Best chance to see wildlife. If you do plan to go during the afternoon, make sure you are comfortable with kayaking around watercraft. Honestly, the wake from the boats can be pretty fun to traverse as well. The experience is partially due to your attitude going in. It's a pleasant, active way to spend the day. read more

I enjoyed kayaking very much. The prices weren't bad. I paid $30 for two hours. I believe for large groups they may cut a deal. Caladesi island as well as honeymoon are beautiful to kayak too even if you've never done it before it won't tire you out. There is also a mangrove trail there where you are able to kayak through. The trails takes planning though, about 3 hours and plan with the tides. You will get stuck during low tide. I will definitely return. Great family activity with kids, a date, friends or a solitary peaceful journey. read more

The water was so clear and amazing, we had a pod of dolphins following us on our way back. They were so close we could have touched them! **Long story, but jest is that Glenn (the owner) is happy to rent you broken equipment, and then threaten to call the cops on you** Not a bad location, or rates, but quite possibly the worst/unprofessional personal experience I have had in the last 10 years. Group of us rented kayaks for 4 hours to head over to Caladesi island. On the way back one started to take on water, and our guy was not able to stay up right any more. He had to swim for a nearby island and eventually got rescued by a bystander on a jetski. When the rest of the group returned and told the employee working the desk what happened, his exact response was, "Well you better go back and get it or I am going to call the cops!" Seriously, you rent kayaks, and when one has an issue you threaten to call the cops?!?! Long story, longer, I eventually flagged down a good Samaritan in a boat, and we were able to go retrieve the kayak. Upon finding it, I discovered that the water leak was from a bad repair job on the bottom of the kayak. (you could see where they had use some marine bondo, and the water leaking out through the crack once it was up on the boat). So now I return to the shop with the defective kayak, and meet Glen the owner. I tell him the story, and ask for a refund for everyone, after being threatened, and a 2 hour ordeal to retrieve his broken property. He says absolutely not, and when I asked him what he thought would be fair, his direct quote was, "how about I don't charge you a late fee, for bringing the boat back 2 hours late." Wow, I can't even think of more unprofessional way to treat a customer, who rented defective equipment, and then retrieved it for you. We negotiated for awhile, and him and his employee's continued to threaten to call the cops (for some reason), so my group finally called the bluff and called the cops for him. They showed up, and Glenn reluctantly refunded only the guy whose kayak was broken to begin with. Needless to say, the whole experience put a damper on the Mangroves. Highly recommend kayaking over there, just do anything in your power to rent from somewhere else. Unless, that is if you enjoy dealing with broken equipment, and repeated threats to have the cops called on you. read more

The guy helping us even found something so that my date could tie her hair up as she forgot something to do so. Staff was rude. I had a groupon which I assumed was for their place since the address was the cuaseway. The young man was not only short with me but down right RUDE and condesending. I left and never will rent there again. I headed to honeymoon beach state park and show the staff my groupon and even though it wasn't theirs they were so friendly and nice and HONORED it anyway. I live right around the corner from the causeway and this was my first kayaking experience. I had a blast! I think I was relatively lucky because the water was very smooth. I went with a friend who has rented there frequently, so we just set out for Caladesi island. We did a 2 hour rental, which gave us time to go there, pull the kayaks out on the sand and swim around for a bit and then run along the St. Joseph sound side of Caladesi for a bit looking at all the sea- and wildlife. I am an avid kayaker, have my own gear...whenever I have visitors (often) they have been so helpful, supplying good quality fleet of kayaks, gear and sailboats. My brother and his wife bought kayaks for each other one year, so when the family went out to visit we all decided that a kayaking expedition was in order. We ended up here - my brother has used this company before, and knew that they'd give great rates and are a tiny bit flexible on rental times. We rented some kayaks for 4 hours, plenty of time to paddle across the bay and explore some kayak trails in Caladesi State park. The staff set our 'yaks down at the water's edge, told us to grab life jackets and paddles, and that was the end of it. I taught kayaking for 5 years and was fully expecting some sort of lesson, but nope. they offered no info at all. they didn't even point out the area we were aiming for (2 miles across the bay) so if we didn't have my brother as a guide, we could have ended up anywhere, trying to find the state park. i suspect they would have if we asked, but no one asked. so, we sized our own life jackets and paddles and set out. There was only one size of paddle, and that drove me nuts. but, whatever. we had our boats and our trail and our picnic, and it was a wonderful day out on the water. 2 hours of kayak rental is $35, 4 hours is $50. being able to paddle wherever you'd like is priceless. read more

My friend and I went paddle boarding this morning which is a Wednesday so it was nice and quiet and we just chose this company on a whim as we saw it while driving back from Honeymoon Island beach the other day. Chris was very helpful in explaining how to paddle board as it was my friend's first time and only my second time. We did an hour rental but he gave us some extra time since we were newbies. We managed to get to Caledesi island which is a great spot to take a break and get in the water. I've used sail honeymoon rentals many times before with no real problems, I enjoy their kayaks and their rates are pretty competitive with others in the area. The only issue, (which is always a big deal) is that the customer service is very poor. I went as far as recommending this establishment to my in-laws saying it's worth the money and it should be fun (on Mother's Day at that). My father-in-law went up to the "desk" and was looking to rent a sailboat or a kayak and the quick and rude response was that there wasn't any available. Which is fine, but another associate in the background was also being very rude and saying unnecessary remarks. It's fine to not have any available, and it's fine to be rude, whatever. But after we were trying to figure out what to do, the comments in the background (being said so the customers can hear) from the associate was rude and unprofessional. I understand this is he said, she said, but in businesses, especially small businesses, customer service should be something that is ALWAYS top notch, even if the actual service isn't. Most customers are willing to look over small issues, if the staff is kind and courteous, right or wrong. Thank you for your prior business, but I will not be returning. read more

We went this past week twice, once just me and my husband and then we brought the kids back. David was very thorough explaining the area and giving safety tips and answered a gazillion questions my husband had. Wish we were more prepared for a four hour adventure but we did this on a whim and so glad we did. Now trying to figure out when I can do another all day jaunt to this little piece of paradise. We rented two kayaks from them to paddle to Caladesi last week during our trip to Florida. We chose to paddle over taking a ferry and we made the right choice. The owner warned us before renting us the kayaks that the wind was going to pick up later that day and we may be forced to return back. We were asked to keep an eye on the big american flag in case its rolled down signaling its time to turn back. Fortunately winds co-operated that day and we enjoyed a nice afternoon on the Caladesi Island beach. Coming back was very difficult due to currents but the waters are shallow so you can get off the kayak and tow it. We enjoyed the experience very much. Prices were reasonable and they take credit cards. There is also a small trailer next door which sells snacks that you can take with you and have a picnic on Caladesi. The owner gave us some dry bags to keep our camera etc dry during kayaking. read more

Been renting kayaks from this business for years and never had an issue. Today I asked for a different one to accommodate my 6 foot 7 inch height and the attendant gave me a hard time and then when I pointed to one that I used last time he wouldn't give it to me. He then tried to give me a shorter one. All the while he kept up with the attitude. I asked him why he was acting like an ass and he stormed off and called his boss. I believe the attendant's name is Chris. After calling his boss Glen, and after explaining only his side of the story, Glenn ordered him to give me my money back and said he wouldn't rent to me. In the meantime my family, who were already in their kayaks we're about 50 yards offshore, I told them to go ahead without me. Every year I stay on Gulf Boulevard just south of Sand Key Park. I always told everyone who wanted a kayak to come over to this place because it was the best kayaking experience I've had in Florida. I talked to Glenn and explained the whole story and he said that he was told I "came on strong". I told him to check his video cameras and talk to the young man who runs the restaurant next to that place who witnessed the whole thing. He apparently did neither and I didn't hear back from him. While my lack of any future recommendations won't matter in the big scheme of things, I guarantee it will probably cost them a couple thousand dollars over the next five years or so in business. Chris is a terrible customer service person and Glen is an even worse manager. The young man who managed the restaurant however is going to be a success, he had a real good attitude and was very supportive. Super nice guy. read more
