    Getting ready to sail
    Kim G.

We booked private sail to scatter family ashes. Was a beautiful day and the staff were friendly, welcoming amd accommodating. Kiwi was our captain and she was committed to a safe, comfortable and special time for us. A nice surprise was being presented with a certificate that identifies the coordinates of where the ashes were scattered.

We took a 1.5 hour trip in October and were able to get up close to otters, seals, and dolphins. The employee managing our trip was very kind and attentive, and we got complimentary drinks and blankets. Shaded and open seating options!

Kiwi is an amazing person. Our 3 yr old daughter got sick on the boat and Kiwi was there to help as if she was family. I can't say enough kind things about her. We saw thousands of sea lions and MANY whale sightings. I would pay double what we paid for our private whale sighting. P.S. -kiwi ask for a raise or a commissioned fee!

My son and I had a weekend sail on a catamaran, an intro sail, completed ASA 101 and had a few intro and club sails with Sail Monterey, and rented a boat for a sail with my kids. We love sailing in Monterey Bay. The Sail Monterey team is awesome. We a learning a lot. The instructors are amazing. I highly recommend Sail Monterey.

Sometimes, it's fun to pretend to be rich. It was one of those hot days, and I wanted to sail! Unfortunately, I don't have a boat. Fortunately, I went online and found Sail Monterey, which offers affordable Catamaran Cruises. I thought it would be a perfect girl time with my daughter! The boat was beautiful! We were the first ones to check in, so we were the first ones on the boat. Whew! These three ladies cut in front of us in line. I was so relieved when the captain called us first! And it turned out the ladies were last. However, the boat was nice and spacious. Only eleven people signed up at 3:00. Free drinks and snacks were a plus! Beer, wine, juice, and water were available. I enjoyed my Italian White Wine, and my daughter enjoyed her Fizzy Grapefruit Juice. For one hour and fifteen minutes, the captain took us far into the ocean. I'm not sure if it was north or south, but it was awesome feeling the breeze on my face. We saw porpoises, whales, and sea lions. I was bummed I couldn't get a picture of the purposes and whales. They were so fast! But it was cool seeing them peeping out and then diving into the water. It was a wonderful day. My daughter couldn't stop thanking me. I was grateful, too. I'm glad I thought of this activity rather than spending it at home in 97-degree weather. Thank you, captain and Sail Monterey!

We booked a private afternoon with Sail Monterey for my mothers celebration of life. They provided drinks and light snacks along with a fantastic level of professionalism and hospitality. Planning and attending a celebration of life is never easy nor enjoyable, however they did everything in their power to make this as easy as possible on us. We released (biodegradable) wreaths from the boat as my mom's favorite music played. She would have absolutely loved it every minute of it.

We went on a 1 hour tour on the catamaran, it was a great trip! We saw sea otters, seals, sea lions, dolphins and lots of birds. Captain Kiwi did a fantastic job running the boat and keeping all the guest happy. We highly recommend this company.

Such a beautiful sunset cruise and we'd definitely do it again. The captain was very friendly and complimentary drinks and blankets were provided.

Captain Paul works hard, yet making everyone feel welcomed and accommodated seems effortless for him. He's one of the best captains I know--deeply knowledgeable, charismatic, and someone who inspires confidence no matter the weather.

Unfortunately, the weather (swells) kept us from going everywhere that would normally be available and the trip was uncomfortably wet and cold. There wasn't enough room to shelter from the drenching spray and cold winds. The captain warned us well in advance of what was coming, so at least those of us in the back of the boat could somewhat prepare. Most of the trip was physically uncomfortable for me. It's worth it to note that I am age 60+, which could have contributed my situation. I think it was the weather that kept Sheridan (naturalist) from noticing everyone's condition (she had to hold on, just like the rest of us), Despite Dramamine and the other precautions I took to avoid getting sick, the conditions, and being so close to the whales that I was treated to "whale breath," I succumbed to seasickness. Eventually, Sheridan came over to me, gave me bags & towels and checked on me regularly thereafter. My traveling companions were much more seaworthy than I was. If I had been traveling alone, I think I would have rescheduled for calmer seas. This option is available. Overall, I loved seeing the whales and dolphins, felt safe onboard, and learned about the marvelous animals. Lesson learned for me: only go out in calm seas.

I picked Princess Monterey for several reasons. The most important one is that they offer 3 hour tours (shorter version) compared to 4 or more hour tours. Some of my family members get motion sickness, so I thought a shorter trip would be best. I also picked Princess Monterey because of their larger sized boats. It can get very bumpy out in the ocean, so having a larger boat helps with less motion sickness. We opted for a whale tour at 10am on a Saturday in late June. It was perfect and we got to see so many whales up close. The tour guides are very nice and knowledgeable during the ride. The boats are very spacious and have indoor and outdoor seating. I recommend you sit indoors when the boat takes off into the ocean. We all sat on the outer part of the boat and got super wet! Luckily it was a sunny day so our clothes were able to dry out. There's plenty of space, so sit inside until you get to the whale destination, then go out and enjoy the experience! If you tend to get motion sickness, you probably will during this trip. We had a very bumpy and windy ride, and at one point I felt a little queasy. There were some people who did get really sick during the trip, so don't forget your motion sickness medicine. I would also bring a warm coat as it gets cold once you're out in the ocean. It's also a great idea to bring sunblock and a hat. Unforgettable experience!

Our group of 40 brave souls set sail yesterday, and let me tell you, it was a wild ride! Picture this: the ocean was a bit like a roller coaster--waves crashing, boats rocking, and our group members discovering just how quickly they could become best friends with the sea. Quite a few of us found ourselves feeling a bit queasy, but hey, who knew that whale watching came with a side of "hold on to your lunch"? But here's the kicker: despite the rough waters, we saw more whales than I've ever seen on any whale watching excursion! It was like a scene out of a nature documentary--humpbacks breaching, flukes flipping, and us squealing with delight (and maybe a little nausea). Every wave brought a new adventure, and the sight of those magnificent creatures made it all worth it! The crew was absolutely fantastic! They were like walking encyclopedias of the ocean, ready to answer every question we threw at them, no matter how ridiculous. "Is that a whale or just a really enthusiastic dolphin?"--they handled it all with grace and humor. Their enthusiasm was contagious, making even the toughest waves feel like a minor inconvenience. So, if you're up for a thrilling adventure with the chance to see some magnificent whales (and maybe test your sea legs), Princess Monterey is your go-to! Just bring some ginger ale for the ride trust me on that one!

The staff were well very nice and helpful. The main con of our trip was the two person top sitting kayak we were on seemed to have problems with steering. No matter how hard we tried to turn right, the kayak always tended to veer the other direction which was frustrating. We got another kayak to check if they saw anything wrong visually on the water, but they couldn't see anything so maybe there was something going on with the underside of the kayak. Besides that, we had a nice time on the water and were able to enjoy seeing all the birds and cute otters and seals out and about. Later in the morning and early afternoon we even got to see the otters get more active and go diving for mud worms that looked like bright orange cigars. It was super cute seeing the otters sleeping nested in the kelp too. Try not to disturb them though since they need to conserve energy to stay warm! We unfortunately saw one tour group led by a guide that went right next to a sleeping pod of otters and woke them all up. Overall, fun place to go kayaking with wildlife! Glad we went on this trip here!
