This was such a fun trip; Paul and Tina really thought of everything; they have blankets in case you get cold (yes please!!), tasty beverages (totally gratis!) a selection of obvious and not-so-obvious chairs, hilarious banter, and a talent for making the best of any weather conditions (how did I have so much fun on an overcast day?!) In short; Sail Monterey is a must-must, if you're in the area. If you're not in the area; do yourself a favor and plan a trip around one of their tours! read more

The boat itself is nice and we were able to sit right up front which was very comfortable and we could see a lot! We weren't able to sail due to wind but it was still a beautiful day! However, the big down side was the Captain talked to a passenger whom he appeared to want to take home with him the whole time and the entire boat had to listen to it, which was annoying and very frustrating. When I mean listening I could tell you her name, she's traveling to Florida to become a yoga instructor, and thinks killing fish is grotesque. Again, the Cat itself is nice and it was a beautiful day, I just wish we didn't have to listen to the captain try and score a lay. read more

Captain Paul and staff were awesome and very knowledgeable about the area. He started playing Bob Marley as we left the dock and it was the perfect, most relaxing choice of music to set the scene. The only thing that would have made our sailboat cruise perfect is to have requested a private charter, as several of the other people on board were obnoxiously unruly. Well worth it! Capt. Paul was a great guide and captain! He was funny and knowledgable and gave us a relaxing sail around the bay. Although we got a "Monterey Sunset" (i.e. too foggy to see the sunset) we got lucky with loads of wildlife sightings: sea otters, sea lions, harbor seals, innumerable birds, etc. We had a blast and will definitely be back for another sail next time we visit Monterey. read more

We were delighted with our experience last Saturday, Paul took us sailing on a 1:00 tour. The service we received was top notch, great communication, an intimate ride and we had great weather and beautiful water, as well. We will definitely come back. My only recommendation is to upgrade the quality of the booze but I won't fault them for it. read more

We booked a two hour sail for the 4th of July. Paul was so great! We had a ton of questions about the boat and sea life. He answered them without fail and was so friendly! Two hours was the perfect amount of time. Luckily we saw dolphins, seals and otters. This was a leisurely sail, wine included and intimate setting with six people on the boat. There was ample seating on the boat, and even a small table at the bow. They allow you to bring additional drinks and food which we didn't but will next time. They're even dog friendly! We did the sunset cruise. Overall it was a cool experience. The variables that weren't so cool, the business had little to no control over. For example, I Brought my dog...which was a mistake. He was super nervous and had a hard time not slipping on the fiberglass. The captain had us sit near the front of the boat where there were no seats.. I'm not sure if that's normal or if they over booked the boat. Where we sat would of been pretty cool if I didn't have a dog and the boat was moving faster.. the captain said the wind wasn't heavy enough but tried sailing for at least a half hr that ended up getting some of us motion sickness... whoops I should of prepared for that lol I def recommend this company and this activity! It was a cool thing to experience. The captain was super laid neck back and cool. But again, overall it was awesome! Try it! read more

The captain was amazing and went over everything from safety to the workings of the ship and had our whole family laughing the entire trip. We saw seals, sea lions, and even dolphins, along with 75 degree weather, and an absolutely beautiful sunset. We wanted to take a short sunset cruise while in Monterey. After looking at all the sunset cruises in Monterey, we chose Sail Monterey. We arrived 45 minutes early and checked in. About 15 minutes prior to leaving the staff gave a few instructions about the cruise. The staff seated us in the order we checked in. Fortunately for us we were the first to check in. We decided to sit in the front of the boat which were comfortable for the three of us. We set out to the Monterey bay and the staff pointed out several highlights in the area. The weather was fantastic and we were offered beer, water, or sparkling wine. The first alcoholic beverage is free and $5 after. They also offered us individual bags of cheese it's. Luckily for our cruise there were a few pairs of whales in our area. We spent a lot of time around them from a distance and were able to take photos. The sunset was great and the whales were a bonus. I would highly recommend this cruise and our adult daughter also enjoyed it as well. The staff were fantastic, funny and knowledgeable. read more

Well, how can I put this.. It's definitely not what we were expecting. We paid for a 4-course sunset dinner cruise, and ended up on a small fishing boat. From the very beginning, it was pretty unorganized, they didn't even verify our tickets at the entrance. My boyfriend and I were wondering whether we were on the right boat. We asked the other passengers onboard what they paid for, and it was honestly very confusing. The captain had a very dry sense of humor and he didn't really have any help on the boat. The captain had to ask everyone what they paid for, and we were the only ones that paid for the dinner. Unfortunately for everyone onboard, the captain had little to no refreshments, and he had to ask everyone to go easy on the wine. Regardless of all the messy confusion, the captain did try to be as hospitable as he could. The appetizers were honestly the best part. The captain served up some grapes and cheese with some crackers, and I'm a sucker for brie cheese. Our main course was salmon with a spinach salad. The captain prepared all of this himself, and I questioned for a second how sanitary the conditions were. Our salmon was decent, a little on the charred side, but thankfully still tasty. And lastly, some macaroons for dessert. They were actually pretty scrumptious. Please note, if you want something fancy and romantic, this is not for you. We had no tables and eating on a rocking sailboat is not easy. We made the best with what we had. As for the sunset part of our little cruise, it was beautiful. Conditions for our trip were perfect, mild winds and clear skies. We sailed past whales, sea lions, and even jellyfish. At the end of our trip, I guess another boat got stuck and our boat had to tow them back to shore. The entire trip did last the 2 hours they said it would, so can't complain. Don't forget a jacket as it does get cold after sunset. I would bring my own snacks next time, if there's a next time. At least I know what to expect. read more

Captain Dan was informative and had interesting seafaring stories to tell and sailed us out to see whales as well! Wine was offered and we had a magical sail on a beautiful 34' sailboat, "Phase3". For my wife's birthday, we decided to head out on a Sunset Cruise. It was a really wonderful decision. This experience is exceptional for so many reasons. Captain Paul creates a very fun and positive experience from the time you arrive until you depart. He has a professional but very relaxed energy that makes you feel as relaxed as the gentle waves of the ocean. The trip itself is 1.5 hours, which is perfect. You get a beautiful view of the bay and aren't committing yourself to a longer journey, so you have plenty of time to grab food or drinks afterwards. (Although I recommend bringing a little snack and a bottle of wine along.) Finally, in their confirmation email they suggest that you arrive early because of parking and you get to choose your seat based on arrival. That is exactly what Captain Paul did. When you arrive he has you sign in and then seats you in the order on the paper. This is a wonderful perk of arriving early. I suggest going early, sitting outside their offices and enjoy the view before the trip. I can't recommend this company enough. They make it easy. They make it fun. They make it special. read more
